Don"t understand why there hasn't been a solo rodan remake as you can see rodan was a beast back in the day.
Glad they put some respect on Rodan in KotM
円谷特撮の迫力と緻密さ、空気感は言うまでもなく、
佐世保市街や西海橋のシーンでの群衆役の俳優さん達やエキストラの皆さんの演技の高さが、シーンの緊張感をさらに高めていると思います。

Viewing this now as an adult, I have no idea why Rodan sounds like he has a jet engine, but I like it.
My guess is it was to justify why his wings aren’t flapping. Got some kind of natural jet propulsion going on.
Such a great sequence with so many memorable shots; this monster suit is one of Toho’s very best.
And honestly the most scary, trauma from my childhood, lol
Fun trivia, when the Rodan suit went crashing into the water, several of the wires on the wings snapped, causing the suit to slowly sink. Haruo Nakajima stated in interviews that had the suit not been made of materials that was buoyant, he would of most surely drowned as the only way to get out of the suit was through a zipper that could only be opened from the outside.
And yet it didn't stop him for playing as godzilla actor, that's what makes him A LEGEND & GOAT

今見ても、というか今見るとミニチュアを上手に使って、リアル感を演出しているし、またパイロットの表情とかもいいですね。
特撮合成も素晴らしいけど。何気にさらっと「戦闘機が二機西海橋をくぐって、一機は上を通過してる」シーンも考えてみるとよく作られてるのが分かる。
For 1956/1957, this movie is REALLY high-quality. In full technicolor, as well!

Watching these awesome japanese monster films on creature double features were the highlights of my bedazzled early youth.
このラドン追撃のシーンって、今観てもスリリングだな。
偽物とわかっていても、その造りの迫力が凄い。
1956 Rodan was pretty menacing compared to the one from 1964-68
Agreed, it’s the close ups on the head that really highlight this. The original design had sharp teeth and a more reptilian design. The 64’-68’ version made Rodan a bit too bird like in my opinion.
最初にアップで写ったセイバーのパイロットは中島春雄さんですね。
しかしまあ、最初のゴジラから四年足らずで、技術的にも格段に進歩してます。西海橋の下をセイバーが、しかも三機編隊でくぐるのなんかどうやって撮ったのか。凄いとしか言い様がありません。
Wrong, the movie was made in 1956
基本的に背景と機体の二つの画像合成で、くぐるのはそう見えるように錯覚させています。わかりやすいのは一番上の機体で橋を透過しているように見えます。映画館の初見では気づかれないだろと、録画再生が考えられない時代ゆえに、編集でOKになったものと思います。

In Gojira, F-86F Sabrejets were able to force the monster back into Tokyo Bay. Those same jets were depicted much better in Rodan. Very lifelike in color
I mean, The jets didn't do anything, Godzilla was going into the ocean already when they showed up

I was born in Japan when this movie was produced. This movie describes very well what Japan and Japanese lifestyle were like when I was born.

佐世保で生まれ育ち福岡にいるから感慨無量。東宝、本多猪四郎監督と円谷英二監督 スタッフの方々には感謝です。
Although certainly the Legendary Pictures kaiju movies must take enormous resources of technology and talent, over time the ingenuity of these Toho pictures, with their intricate models, and tiny jets firing showers of sparks at guys in suits, becomes more and more impressive.
One favs to watch growing up in the 70s and still is today.

I was born there ”SASEBO City” in Nagasaki Prefecture where Radon visit. When I was kid my mum used to tell me that she was in this movie for a few seconds running away from Radon at SAIKAI bridge which he destroyed. I am 51 years old now but I have never seen this movie yet. I knew Radon came to SASEBO but I didn't know he did that much. Now I am looking for my mum.

@Seth Dkny Yes, and obviously the best way to do that is to all fly in formation neglecting the fact that Rodan is not simply allowing himself to be dragged along according the humans' scheme but is actually trying to kill them.
Funny how a creature with no jet engines makes jet noises when he flies.
It's shown and stated to fly faster than the F-86 Sabres (Jets shown here) which fly at a maximum speed of 671 MPH or roughly 0.88 Mach 1. Rodan (Radon) was stated in released books to fly at a speed of Mach 1.5, or about 1,142 MPH. The sound you hear is the classic whistle of something which broke the sound barrier, which is of course the whine of the engines on a jet but in this case it could be the air whipping off the Pteranodon's wing tips.

Rodan 1956: Was almost similar to Rodan 2019 but was Portrayed by a Suit, Puppet and Flying Props!

The effects are well done.
Good use of lighting and color, appropriate backgrounds to make it, good editing with real people/locations to make it feel more real.
ちなみに地上の管制塔と上空の戦闘機との「司令部、司令部・・・」ってやり取りの口調、大戦中の陸海軍航空機搭乗員のやり方と全く同じらしいですね。
戦後間もない頃だし、実際に乗ってた元搭乗員の人とかも多かったでしょうからなぁ～
日本遺産（Japan Heritage）認定の針尾無線塔（136m）の頂上に三角形の構造物、通称”かんざし”がある頃の映画なのですね。

Honestly I have mixed emotions about turning Godzilla into a protector from a menace, but I really hate what they did to Rodan. In this movie he (they) is a force to be reckoned with. Later he's Godzilla's sidekick and doesn't do much.
Yeah in ghidorah the 3 headed monster rodan looks ugly and looks like he is high af. And in most of the fight he is just sitting on the ground roaring and nodding like a dumbass lol.
I don't like what they did to his design. He a solid design in this movie, but after that he got uglier and uglier.
His design became uglier every time, only fire Rodan in GxMG 2 and Rodan in KOTM redeemed him.
They did the same with Anguirus, he passed from the first Godzilla enemy to his sidekick that gets badly beaten every time he fights

Could Rodan be a Hommage to the british Avro Vulcan. This plane was known to be very loud und first flew in 1952. Honda must have known it from aviation magazines.

Wikiによると西海橋は51年着工、55年完成と 撮影時には最新の橋だったとのことですが、戦後早い時期にこんな立派な橋が建設されていたのには驚きました。
針尾無線塔です。太平洋戦争開戦時の暗号電文 ニイタカヤマノボレ はここから発信されたました。
旧日本軍が建設したものです。

Rodan was a pretty good film, but I wish that the technicians could have found a way to get the wings to flap on the aerial version of the creature! All it seems to do is glide around like a ... well, a glider!

Released in ‘56 in Japan, 1957 in US. Obviously Japanese version. Cuz you notice they’re speaking Japanese. Also, US version removed Ifukube’s incredible score for the net scene and the battle in Fukuoka
