Just wanted to say thanks for the vid. I've seen a number with Launchpad Pro mk III, but usually they are either reviews, tutorials, or simple groove sessions. I've never seen any as you do here, with a tablet, talking through the mechanics. Love it, and would love to see an update since presumably you've used this more now.
This was awesome. I had the Push2 for a while and was getting frustrated with it because I just wanted to do this stuff, lay down some instruments and mess with the mix and effects. I have this unit on the way and cant wait to play. Cheers
@@DylanParisMusicare you still using the Launchpad Pro MK3, or have you basically put it aside in favour of your Maschine Plus? Can't keep track of your hardware use!! But serious question - I'm looking at making a purchase and your views count!
@@Steve.Dennis I am juggling the Plus and the MPC live 2 a lot lately, along with the Polyend Tracker. Most of my Ableton use lately is in mixing and mastering so not as much Launchpad stuff. That said the Launchpad Pro isn't going anywhere until an Ableton Push 3 drops
I used to use it with beat maker 3 a bit but nothing on iPad is as smooth as Ableton on pc or Mac as far as being able to do note entry, clip launching, and device parameter control
Hi mate, just wondering as someone who owns the push and MK3, which do you find reaching for the most? And which out of the two do you find you have to keep going back to the computer?
Hello! I don’t currently own the push anymore but it would likely allow you to work more off of the computer screen. For the best off screen hybrid workflow I’d recommend a Maschine though, although that is also essentially another DAW to learn as well
@@DylanParisMusic Thanks for the insights mate its much appreciated! I did look at the Maschine but I like working with step sequencers and the Maschine only has 16 steps.
Excellent video. I was interested in a Launchpad and wondered if it would work with a iPad pro M1? I know they don't have Ableton for iPad but will it work with other IOS programs?
Thank you! Yeah you can plug it directly in via USB C and use it with a few different DAWs for note entry. LK and Loopy Pro both have Launchpad support for scenes as well
The Launchpad not having faders is the first thing I noticed. I guess there is a good workaround, e.g. add an Akai Midimixer for controlling Ableton? I’ve seen this set up.
Depends on your use case. If Ableton is your primary DAW, you are okay with the size and price of the Push 2, and the need to plug it into wall power to see the screen in most lighting situations, the Push 2 is probably better. If any of those sound like issues, the LP Pro mk3 is the move.
@@DylanParisMusic It was the question until I watched your next video with Akai Force. Or I would say your great performance! :) I know nothing about Ableton, just installed it. But now I'm thinking about the Force. So let me extend the question - Akai Force vs Push 2 vs LP? I know it sounds stupid, but this will be my first setup and I'm a bit frustrated. Btw, I don't care about money at the moment, they are all in budget.
That is a very tricky question. I have used Ableton since 2011 and have thousands of dollars in plugins I use regularly on my PC. Those can't be used with the Force very easily and despite its appearance, the Force doesn't work with Ableton the same way a Push 2 or a Launchpad does (at least not yet). I don't think the internal sounds on the Force are as good as what you can get with plugins in Ableton, but the Force is nice as a standalone package and you can export your finished projects to Ableton to add layers down the line. I currently own the following gear I use regularly: Maschine Plus, MPC LIVE II, Akai Force, Launchpad Pro Mk3, Polyend Tracker, Ableton on my desktop (suite 11 along with the Arturia V collection 8, and Komplete 12). It's pretty hard for me to say which one is better if you can only have one piece of gear. I get more inspiration from DAWless stuff, but I never finish a song without Ableton being involved at some point (at least in mixing and mastering).
They’re very different, one is a midi controller for Ableton and the other is a standalone music production studio. If you have a force you probably don’t need this unless you’re really into Ableton
Dylan, do you know how is it possible to disable midi note receive on the LPP? trying to use it a sequencer controller for the mpc but been getting midi loop problems.. thanky you
I can’t get the undo redo function to work at all even after an update . It’s supposed to be shift then undo redo but nothing. And the micro step function isn’t as it’s supposed to all, nothing like demo vids or the manual . Maybe mines messed up. I reinstalled firmware 3 times and it’s still lame . Sequencing on it isn’t even fun as it is . At least my push 1 I can sequence without things not working properly even though i like the pads on the mk3 way better than the push 1 .
@@DylanParisMusic Yeah i think it's doing that because of the ableton midi settings or something, like i might have the master in out set up wrong. but i just gave up and just use it as a keyboard device because the pads are great on it for feel and responsiveness . i think the sequencer is kinda limited anyways with tracks and length for what i like anyways.
My launchpad only plays a few notes when I plug it in, I can put any sound in there and it won’t spread the notes over the entire pad, there are maybe 10-16 pads that work, and it’s not from over use. When I first got it this happened and I would press random buttons and some how it would work. Now it wont play any more that the 16 pads no matter what I’ve tried, I really want to make beats again if someone can help that would be great🙏🏾

Merci

Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching 🙌😎
currently use this with Maschine+ and its a dream come true
Really? What role does the Launchpad play?
Great! I like battery for my drums and analog lab for my synth vst.
Great combo!
the best tutorial I've seen so far ... chapeau.. 🙂
thank you!

Haha, picked it up again...that's funny cause I just did the same thing 2 days ago.
good demonstration
thank you!
Not hardware I use but I tuned in anyway for the ride!

Size, not needing a power adapter, portability (I guess the same as size)
