Of course not - today's "raw vocals" are nothing more than autotuned while the new generation cannot count past 19 anyways. Today's music isn't even a SHELL of what we had from 1950s, peaking in the 80s, 90s and coming to an end in 2000. Afterwards it's all auto tune, weak singers resorting to sex, provocation, tons of background dancers and additional singers to hide the "artists" talent, they don't have to begin with.
Luther started as a background singer and was quickly recognized as one of the best. Makes sense that he would have top tier singers behind him. Miss You Luther! ❤😔❤
Yes. While singing background for Dionne, she said after one particular session, she pulled him aside and told him, it’s time for you to go out on your own. She said he was amazing and the world needed to hear him❤️
Dam 🤦🏽♂️🙏🏾🕊️💙. We Met him in the Shark 🦈 bar the weekend of his last performance 🎭 at the Beacon Theatre. Pleasant beautiful spirit. Told him that we were going to be there and we had second row seats 💺 stage left. And when he walked out from stage left to SET THE SHOW OFF TO (NEVER TOO MUCH!) and looked and saw us and gave us the biggest smile and wave 👋🏾 ♥️👋🏾🎭🙏🏾. My Goodness you couldn’t tell us we wasn’t Luther’s favorites that night.. Continued Peaceful Journey to our vocal ICON 🕊️💙🙏🏾🎭🫡
@@jaye212 To a strong degree yes but we need him here to bring us more of that Luther magic. With the state of R&B today God knows we could've used him now. Luther would've straightened it right on out!!!! Out
Lisa also sang back-up for Chaka Khan a couple of years before joining Luther's live concerts. She sings "NIGHT IN TUNISIA" live with her on the"THIS IS MY NIGHT/I FEEL FOR YOU" concert series and tears it up. I began following her career right after I'd saw that performance in Iwakuni, Japan while serving in the U.S. MARINES. My God she's beautiful, humble and vocal chords second to none!!!! Out
Yes. Many of Luther’s background singers also either sang background vocals concurrently with other great artists, or at one time were with them; such as Roberta Flack, and CHIC. Brenda White and Yvonne Lewis sang with Roberta for a long time.
Luther's background singers were truly amazing, but LISA FISCHER herself was singing background for The Rolling Stones, at this exact same period in time (when Lisa was in her prime.)
One year he was in town to do a concert,he stay at the hotel I was working at I was scheduled to work that night so as he was departing the hotel I just ran outside and start waving at the dark limo, don't know if he saw me or not,but I was a waving ass.
I'm so glad I got to see him perform live. I was 10 years old and saw DeBarge and Luther Vandross in New Orleans at the U.N.O. Lakefront arena. What a great concert!
I went to this tour in New Jersey when I was 16. It was Luther, Anita and Shirley Murdock. I remember this part of the concert where Luther’s background singers sounded like something from another world. They literally gave me chills. I was blown away.
This is my childhood. My mother was the biggest Luther fan and had this tape. This is Luther Live at Wembley (I think). Me, my brother, and sister could recite this whole video frontwards and backwards, even the adlibs. 😂 Miss my mom 🕊❤

That ninja said 19 more 😂😂 I love you Luther 🫶🏾
And they rocked it!!!
I have always loved his version of this Stevie Wonder classic..
A true Musician❤❤❤❤
How many people knew Steve Wonder wrote and recorded this beautiful song …..🤔💜🍷
The fact that they were able to count to 19 while singing is even more impressive
🙋🏾♂️ Rehearsal
Even though it may have been rehearsed, the fact that they did it perfectly shows skill and solid collaboration.
This new generation wouldn't understand the power of real raw vocals 💯

They also sang backup for several other great stars including Tina Turner, and at least one (Lisa Fischer) won a Grammy for her own solo project
Yes, and she shared that Grammy with Patti Labelle. It was Patti's first grammy.

Ava's not on this tour. That's Alfa with the Blonde Hair
I think it's Fonzie Thornton.
He had the BADDEST background vocalist

Luther ❤

You know they waited every night for this moment in the show!
Yes. They counted 19x. I counted ...❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
AMAZING BACKGROUND VOCALS
Luther's background singers were truly amazing, but LISA FISCHER herself was singing background for The Rolling Stones, at this exact same period in time (when Lisa was in her prime.)
Actually at this time she had not started singing with the "STONES" yet. She began shortly after though!!!!

Definitely a legend
Luther vandross era muito bom em tudo que fazia maravilhoso
They should've been beside him doing duets instead of behind him. This is the era of REAL vocalists
Yesuhhhh!
I remember that episode of Martin, when Pam and Gina sang that for the plumber's funeral😂😂
Heard them live in the 90s never forget those singers
Luther gave his backup singers the spotlight very often. They all together made the shows so entertaining!
Cissy Houston was one his background singers as well His background had a distinct sound 💯💯💯🙏🏾🙏🏾
He sung background for Chaka Khan on a few songs, many times it was him, Cissy Houston and a young Whitney singing on a record or two by Chaka.
I was at that concert. It was hot as hell.
My co-worker went to a live show. She said Luther DEMANDS that the air-conditioner be cut OFF. (It has to do with his voice)
Luther was the Goat seen him probaly 100 times. His back up was awesome
❤ yes they were tight
I have watched that concert online numerous times. I wish the recording was better.
ALWAYS HAD THE BEST BACKGROUND SANGERS IN THE BUSINESS! I LOVE rewatching all his live performance videos, not just for him but for them too!

Always on point!!
With all that beautiful sparkle they look like God directing a choir of angels ✨
