Dragon Chiang was also reprinted in 1999 at graphic novel size by ACG books. It has a different cover and the printing is darker. I bought a piece of art from Truman back in 07 and he threw the graphic novel in the package for me. I had never seen that printing of it before (or since).
I appreciate little details like Truman using a Lee Enfield No4 rifle as the hero's sniping gun. Zaffino did the same thing in the great book Winterworld. These artists do their homework!
I’ve never heard of this comic but wow, the art is gorgeous. Having Bradstreet essential paint with duo tones is such a great idea. The art reminds me of Zulli’s art on Puma Blues. I’ve also always liked Truman’s modern Western stories.
Very inspirational and insightful, I know nothing about making a comic. Do artist work on a large piece and then shrink it down and if they do what size is a default size and also what would be the usual measurements they make each page before they print? Asking for a friend lol
Truman is awesome. Been a big fan since his work on Jonah Hex in the 90's then went back to Scout and Grimjack. I always pick up his comics when I see them. Whose photo is that on the Thor comic?
I remember seeing that trick where he sets up a wire to snag the bikers in an 80’s action movie, Eye of the Tiger, where Gary Busey fight a gang of bikers.
Your mention of Gulacy reminded me that he did a series called the Grackle in duotone. But the guy I think is really relevant is Joe Coleman: his duotone comics and illustrations have a disturbing vibrating quality. Plus circus freaks and violence.
Great video! I LOVE duoshade art & totally forgot about this comic! I found that you can still order copies direct from Tim Truman through his website & check out this high-res scan of the art at 11:19 - comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/tim-truman-and-tim-bradstreet-dragon-chiang-page-24-original-art-eclipse-1991-/a/121718-15212.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
Enjoyed this a lot. I know I have the comic somewhere in my back issues. Will have to go dig it out now. I'm surprised you mention that Truman is not very prolific as I think of him in the opposite way. It may be because you guys aren't big on DC Comics and he has done quite a bit with them. Talk to Fiffe about it! Check out Truman's Wiki page here that lists all of his work: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Truman
