I just rented one for a week on a business trip. I am really impressed by it and it popped up to the top of my list for my replacement car. It would be my last gas car before my state supposedly switch to electric. Nissan has done a good job with the exterior design - it's a very good looking car inside and out. The only thing I do not like is the infotainment unit display. It's a bit small by today's standard and its angle does not have a bias towards the driver seat - looking at driving direction requires a much wider turn of head than I expected.

It's nice to still have affordable cars. I'm willing to buy used and keep a car for 7+ years. For now I'm keeping my 2017 Mustang EcoBoost premium bought in 2017 used for $20,000. I just replaced the original tires and had brake work done for $2,000. So hopefully will have the car for several more years.

For this generation, Nissan gave us so much that it made their Altima obsolete. Hey, have you driven the previous generation Sentra Turbo? I was always curious about those, might be a hidden gem. >_
As others mentioned, Nissan needs to make cars for car people again. If you are going to do a performance version of the Sentra, then do it right...build a modern rendition of the SER Spec-V, offer brilliant handling from the factory, and give it a manual transmission and an engine that is 250+ HP. Without doing this, the car is not even on the radar for sport compact shoppers/buyers. I owned a 2004 Spec-V, and it humiliated quite a few more expensive vehicles...it was nimble, and borderline fast when talking stock vs stock vehicles. We need to stop drinking the Kool-aid that Android Auto and Apple Carplay are the new measures of a vehicles worth. The latest generation Sentra and Altima are really nice looking cars (especially in the Orange or Blue), but they don't have the performance chops to match or back up the looks. That being said, at least they still build these types of cars, unlike Ford who abandoned the majority of their customer base in favor of $100K trucks and SUVs or Electric Mustangs they can't afford (or don't actually want).
Other than the available tech., nothing underrated about it. Compact car class, it is literally the slowest out of all of its competitors. So much so that Nissan didn't even bother putting paddle shifters onto the back of the steering wheel. Looks sporty on the outside. *VERY* sporty looking on the inside, but doesn't have the power or torque to back up those genuinely cool looks and sporty styling. Parent company that owns Nissan, also owns Jatco. So the Sentra is stuck with the least reliable CVT in the industry. Also, it occupies an odd spot in Nissan's line-up. If you need a sub-compact, economy sedan, the Nissan Versa is the cheapest car you can buy in America. It's also slow, but it's an economy car. Bigger size and more power than the Sentra, you've got the costlier Nissan Altima. What's the point of the Sentra? Nissan still refuses to give the highest trim Sentra SR a turbo-charger for more power. You want a basic commuter vehicle, buy the Versa. You want one with more room and power, in exchange for more money, buy the Altima. You want something stuck in the middle of those two, why?! Heck even the Versa's center stack is better laid out than the Sentra's.
What is the deal with this car? I hear good things from the tube. I think it looks amazing. The interior is nice. Yet only 48% of owners said they would do it again. That is a very low number. Is it the power train? I hope some owners weigh in.
I've had my 2023 SV trim for 1 year now, and I love it. Maybe there are those who think they should have spent the extra $3000 and got the Civic. But I was happy to spend less and am fine with that. Most car reviews compare this to the turbo Civic which is much more money. Why don't they compare an SV sentra with a Civic with the base engine? The Sentra is still more affordable even comparing to that and is better overall. Yes, the Civic Si is more fun. I get it.
The old ones have nothing to do with the new CVT they have improved the design......and none of the modern CVT Sentras have the failure rate anywhere close to the 2010-2016 models....

Love the sentra's very sporty looks and design but honda's civic with 200 ponies and 50 mpg it's a win sentra's anemic horsepower will always be a lackluster performer 😅😅😅.
Wow the Kia K4 looks hideous. That styling doesn’t go well for a car that size, although that interior is cutting edge. The Sentra seems like a very comfortable and reasonable choice
To me it's easy to understand why the Sentra does not get the same credit as a Civic or Corolla, amdnits not necessarily quality related. Its more along the lines of not catering to the enthusisast at that price point. The uninspired power train just doesnt compare when you stack it up against the compitetion which in some cases has mulitple sporty iption that cover multiple proce points... Nissan WTH
@jtslick15 I mean sure they could offer those things, and they just might. But its clear as day they are targeting an audience that is looking for affordability and reliability. Heck, if people are so concerned about performance, I'm sure they can just go to the aftermarket.
@@bigredog100 Valid point... And sure, once could turn to the aftermarket to compensate for what the OEM won't do but there's a free things about that. One aftermarket support only happens when there is demand for the platform. And secondly brand loyalty and prestige comes from listening to your customers. I have been hearing car enthusiasts (who are a niche part of the market I know) say they've been wanting a the Nismo Sentra for years.
If you take care of the CVT and do maintenance they last long as a conventional transmission....if you don't dog it from a stop, that helps it last as well
Not everyone wants to stick around with a 20 year old car and frankly, Toyota's and Lexus' are not immune to having issues. You buy a 20 year old Lexus with around 200k miles, how long can you drive it before you gotta spend a ton of money replacing stuff.
Look, I love the ES 330, even the ES 350 and they are very reliable. But while the Lexus will be quieter, and a little faster, the Sentra is modern, very good drivers assistance, headlights, decent infotainment. However, I think the new Nissan kicks is bad ass, I would mob that any day.

The hate is also due to how they drive...
@@nberkel Depends on the car really. This one makes enough power that the rpm can stay low (~2k) and still accelerate without any issue and minimal noise.
The sentra is probably the best looking compact vehicle on the road.... I ocassionaly consider buying one, but I don't want to be lumped in with the typical nissan owner. Seem to be awful drivers, every car is nearly destroyed and drive like madmen.
I’ve rented them a couple of times and found it to be a perfectly pleasant car. I actually liked it.
2 issues that would prevent me from buying one
Nissan CVT reliability
Absurd insurance rates.
One hundred percent .
Nissan is making nicer cars now and fixed most of the CVT problems, but people have long memories. They need to end the no/low credit purchases and have a crazy 200k km warranty.
Love the sentra's very sporty looks and design but honda's civic with 200 ponies and 50 mpg it's a win sentra's anemic horsepower will always be a lackluster performer 😅😅😅.
Why are you comparing a hybrid to a non hybrid car?
I prefer the sentra's looks but any trim honda civic has more horsepower it's time nissan increase the power maybe the turbo in the new rogue.
That's odd, Nissan's website says this starts much lower than 28k for that SR trim.
Go watch that part of the video again, he said the model @28k was fully loaded with all options.
I'd look for a manual. History of Nissan auto transmissions is too much for me for sure.
Wow the Kia K4 looks hideous. That styling doesn’t go well for a car that size, although that interior is cutting edge. The Sentra seems like a very comfortable and reasonable choice
Does have the gps
Nice vehicle, the Sentra, does seem underrated. ....A Corolla will run until "the end of time." ????
It's fairly likely in my opinion at least haha.
Truthfully I'd rather pay more and buy a Prius or Prius Prime. Or buy the car with the better safety rating.
The car is nice but the reputation of the cvt issues Nissan needs to dump them and go back to actual gears .
🙂👍
I would buy it if it did not have a Cvt
If it started at 15k i would be in
Nothing starts that low anymore sadly.
Car d3alers need to listen to customers. What you say we don't care.
Saw a sentry for 30k are you kidding 10kcar what a joke
I wish Nissan would not have horrible transmissions for the last 15 years. That’s what killed their business
They must be pretty confident in them now since they offer a 10 year 200,000 power train warranty.
@@joepic85 I heard they went to a new cvt. I did not hear about the new warranty.
@@JohnDeLorme-g7d depends on the dealer I guess. But the one by me offers the 200k powertrain with obviously the 36k B to B
Not a bad looking car if you don't mind it lasting no more than 60,000 miles because of the bad cvt transmission
If you take care of the CVT and do maintenance they last long as a conventional transmission....if you don't dog it from a stop, that helps it last as well
Cvt…
CVT is Porsche performance if you close your eyes and visualize the opposite.
Boyenne attention à la localisation de votre micro cela donne l impression que vous avez un véhicule très bruyant ce qui est faux j ai un SV 2024
🎉don't care about key
Yeah but…..CVT
Buy a 2004 Lexus es 330 for 2900 bucks rather than a car this low for any price. Let’s wake up.
Not everybody wants to drive an old piece of shit🙄
@@DefinitelyNotYouThankGod the POS is the Sentra grade car. Wake up at once. The Lexus isn’t ever one.
If you can swing it get the next body style, hell even the prior one is better looking then the 04, but your right for 3k can’t go wrong
Brie Larson... Nissan... No thanks. This car was not made for me...😂
❄️🌨️
Take. the I pad off the dash.
No, it's a Nissan with a Jatco CVT. It's garbage, and has a customer base good people don't want to be associated with.
nissan cvts suck. stay away. The hyundai elantra wins for compact sedan value coming from a honda and toyota guy.
Reunalt in a costume ? no, thanks.
Electric vehicles are a joke.no one wants them make a.more reliable truck.stop inventing the wheel
385,000 people bought a Tesla Model Y in 2023. The fifth best selling vehicle in the U.S. I wouldn't buy one because Musk, but to say "No one wants electric vehicles" is silly at best.
No thank you 🙏
Don't. Just don't.
dude it's a nissan, nobody should buy this
It’s a Nissan lmao
And?
