When the LFA was new they had one doing the rounds at Lexus dealerships. My brother and I went in to the Elizabeth Street dealership in Melbourne for a look and a bloke came out to show us over the car. Let us sit in it, opened and shut everything, pressed every button and then he fired it up and nearly blew the windows out of the joint rev bombing it for us. He must have spent 20 minutes with us two yobbos who were obviously nowhere near ever going to buy it. When we left he gave me his card. He was the dealer principal. Amazing. At a Ferrari showroom the receptionist wouldn't have even acknowledged us let alone let us sit in a car. What a legend that bloke was. Made two more Lexus fans that day. Amazing car, the LFA.
+1 for the Honda Jazz. I bought a 2006 model with all the kilometers on it for $1,800 earlier this year to help me move an all motorcycle household with the intention of reselling it once I was done. It's such a practical little thing I can't bring myself to get rid of it. It's so practical that a mate who has a dual cab Hilux asked me to help him pick up a table that wouldn't fit in the back of his ute & the little Jazz swallowed it whole.
Bought ours new in 2006, havent got the heart to lose it! Paint on roof fading, cvt auto rumbles, but still love it! And you are dead right, these things have more useable room than some utes and wagons...

I picked up an used 2021 Impreza sport hatchback in 5 speed manual in 22 and I love it, but if they brought the WRX wagon in 6 speed to the US like they have done it Mexico, then oh yeah 😂👍
I bought my Son a 2004 Accord Euro 18 months ago thanks to your review. After taking care of some neglected maintenance issues it runs like a dream with 267,000 klm on the clock. Everything works fine and with an aftermarket head unit and reverse camera it's a perfect first car.
US viewer here… from 2009 to 2015, we had a Camry wagon… is was called a Venza. Even though they tried to classify it as an SUV, it only has 6.5 inches of ground clearance. It’s a wagon, I have the 4cyl. AWD model, and I think it’s a great car… just as good (and far more sporty) than my 2005 Highlander (378k kilometers). I like watching your vids - I see all the different variant models to the ones we see here. I wish we had them, because the US marketing refuses to give us the smaller, cooler, sportier & fuel efficient cars that you have. They stopped selling the Fit/Jazz here 4 years ago, and Toyota doesn’t offer the Yaris anymore. Here, it’s bigger to huge… and our economy is suffering with hundreds of thousands of huge, ridiculous vehicles on the car lots that no one wants to buy.
On a grocery run the other day I saw a smartly dressed gent get out of his Lexus LC 500, obviously to buy martini supplies. Wow what a beautiful car. I mean stunning. And the owner surely knows he’s the coolest and smartest guy in town. How the LC is off the sports car radar is beyond me. Great vid as always!
my ls600 can be often seen getting martini supplies. lillet le blanc. grey goose / belvedere / fire and ice. What ever gin is on special and cinzano bianco. 5pm everyday the shaker comes out.
Great episode guys. I moved out of a 2002 Camry V6 touring wagon after 22 years which had 335000 KMs as I have now retired. Nothing wrong with the Camry, always serviced and NO major mechanical issues.( Yes batteries, alternators and services! But the fuel cost and minor issues( remote locking, antenna etc) made me regretfully sell. I bought a 2020 Corolla touring hybrid wagon from Go Garage. A brilliant car and saving me up to $50 per week in fuel. Let me know if you want to show it in a future vid. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Carl
3 things … 1. Excellent content as usual … 2. For client confidentiality sake yeah do note the rego of that broken Octavia was clearly visible .. 3. I owned a Kizashi - agree in manual form that would easily be the equal of the Accord Euro … but unfortunately the CVT in mine (fast changing manual mode aside) dulled the heck out of the car, and the one deal breaker for me was how slow it was in engaging reverse and back to drive again when rushed to park quickly in shopping centres. The ride was also jiggly at best but I think I would have forgiven that if in manual form.
I'm 78yo. I have been driving a 2015 FRS since it was new. Now ten years old and 74,000 miles. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it so far. I have owned over 60 cars in my lifetime and this is the most fun to drive car ever. For under $26,000 new, how could I go wrong.
@@550r Ahh ok. Thanks. I reckon we get them here in Australia. Toyota and Subaru share a model here...its a nice looking little sporty job. I reckon thats it. 🍺🦘🦘
Sad my Subie Forester SJ isn't in the list. I bought this car for it's off-road capabilities. It out performs any car in it's genre. CX5, X-Trail, Outlander are not even close. I love my car, not much issues with it, just need to make you maintain it.
Love my 2019 Mazda 6 GT wagon. Beautiful to drive, super-reliable and looks great in grey on big alloys. I have a family of 4 but find SUVs too ‘floaty’ and a bit dull. If you want a sporty looking/feeling family car it has to be a wagon 😊
I always said if Lexus had offered more wagons (and sedans with foldable seats) they would have been soooo much more popular in Europe. In 80s, 90s and 00s Europe we loved station wagons (Volvo 240, 740, 940). And I still do.
I bought a 2005 LS430 a couple of years ago as a hack to leave at my holiday home. It was THAT good It morphed quickly into my daily driver! It is a fantastic car!
Can I just say, the CX-5 in the 2L form is one of the most gutless pieces of shite I've ever driven. Got one as a hire car and had the misery of wringing its wheezy neck from the Gold Coast to Albury NSW and Back. Worst four days of my life. Each time it came to a hill it screamed louder than school girl at a Taylor Swift concert, and then went backwards. B-doubles were overtaking it like it was standing still. Never again
They come in 2.5 L option and theres a sport mode or overdrive gear under the pedal when you push pedal further hits a button Its fast for for 4 cylinder suv
I agree. It should be standard 2.5L at the base trim model. The lack in power isn’t worth the barely better fuel efficiency. I am getting about the same or better in my CX-30 with the 2.5L and AWD VS the CX-5 2L FWD.
@@stevendellavo1959 I'd have to imagine if your 2.5L isn't putting in major overtime like the 2L all the bloody time, you'd have to be getting far better mileage on the hwy at least.
GTIs are pretty rare here these days. Swift Sport is a regular fixture on these guys lists of great cars (because they are). I guess it just didn’t make the basic bland small car category nor the sports car category.
My quick list: Small car - Swift Sport (not really in the sports car category, better looking and more fun than any of those mentioned). Small SUV - RAV4 Gen 1, import with beams engine preferred. CX3. Or, hear me out (because I reckon this will be on the do-not-buy list), Nissan Juke. But MUST be 1.6T and manual. CVT is garbage, but the manual 1.6T is a hoot and yeah polarising looks when it came out etc. BUT honestly those are like the weird JDM models we never get but were actually sold here. Only small Japanese SUV with some spice sold here. Lastly, Vitara Turbo. Cracking good little car. Look sharp without being silly. Practical, efficient, reliable, fun, super light. Fabulous little car. ‘Medium’ (whatever that is as it seemed to skip the Corolla class entirely - Accord Euro, Mazda 3 (the newest one), Blade Master G, Altezza. Medium SUV - I dunno, they all seem pretty dreary. Have that Rukus over about any of them. V6 RAV4 I guess. Actually probably the 2 Gen body CRV like AK bought for a bit. They’re rad and cheap. Large car - Lexus IS-F. Large SUV - Like, I dunno, FJ cruiser or a 90 series Prado maybe. Sports cars - MX5. S2000. NSX. 240Z. Celica GT4. S800. S660. MR2 Spider. Crazy - Toyota GT2000.
In addition to an already great list. I recently got myself a zc33s swift sport and it’s so much fun for the money. Handles like a go kart and feels quick, especially on the street.
Appreciate the respect and chemistry between Jim and Adam as you both obviously love what you do for the channel. Writing from California, people like us are the beneficiaries from your expertise ❤ .
My favorite Japanese cars. Honda Prelude Any Lexus sedan GS/LS/IS Toyota crown Toyota aurion Honda Civic 98-2001 Mitsubishi evo Mitsubishi eclipse (USA make can't believe we didn't get that car in aus) Nissan skyline v spec Honda S2000. Toyota 2000 To many to name
Honestly expected the majority of the cars on this list, but I was surprised that the Toyota Century wasn't mentioned as a pick to buy. I quite often see many Kizashis driving around town and was one of only 2 cars that were a surprise on the list. The other suprise car was the Rukus as I recently saw one in the metal in base spec but in a dark blue and it was honestly impressive too see. The GT2000 that was used in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice actually had too be made into a convertible as Sean Connery was too tall for it making the only convertible version of it in the world. Great video guys and as always keep up the good work guys and look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.
I'm 70 and had many different cars since I got my license at 16. I am currently on my 2nd Daihatsu Terios with the K3ve engine. The first got T boned a couple of weeks ago. It had done 360,000 faultless km. They weren't very popular when released but I find it extremely capable as a daily driver and on the sand. It is relatively comfortable for an AWD and tows well behind our RV.
I got Mazda3 SP25GT 2014 model and i love it as it's never getting any problems except for the i-stop that you need to turn off every time you start the car but otherwise great car. As for someone who drove V8's most of my life i do miss the power at times for how great the mazda is i have Zero regrates.
I currently have a 1997 1stGen Toyota RAV4 3 door and it's beautiful. Thank you for mentioning it! It drives great, it's super reliable and very easy to replace parts when broken.
Yeah I've got the same engine in my Mazda 6. From what I've read, this series of engine was perfectly fine. It's the next one which is apparently pretty terrible.
I've had an 2015 Subi. Outback 2'5 premium for 10 years now, touch wood the only thing ever to go wrong was a non-functioning horn, apart from that everything else is working today as it did when we first brought it,i'm 76 and had many cars in my life and this 'Outback' has really been a great performer for us and I would recommend in a heartbeat. Great show guy's,keep it up..Ed.
18 months ago I got a diesel NW Pajero, great SUV now with 260k on it but drivers like new, slowly building into a touring car and all round off roader.
5:30 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE continue on the Hr-V I’ve got myself a 2000 Hr-V bulletproof so much fun have survived all the beating I did at 360k still kicking like new I just fell in love I purchased myself the same engine to understand the simple yet mighty D16 engine, I’ll be watching this channel!!
Hoorah for the Outback! Call me a glutton for punishment, but my driveway is full of Alfas and Subarus and I wouldn't have it any other way. The wife has a 2019 Forester (our third), while I've got two Alfas ('81 GTV and '02 156 GTA which til a month ago was my daily) and a freshly acquired gen2 '02 Outback 2.5 manual. Bought solely as a cheap daily to flog on the work run, its done over 250,000km - but everything works (inc AC and windows), the headgaskets were replaced with MLS ones at the same time as the timing belt was done and a heavy duty clutch and single mass flywheel fitted about 30,000km ago. Man I love this thing: with its 2" lift kit, HD offroad tyres, spotties, bullbar and CB. All acquired for the princely sum of $1800 with rego paid til end of January.
i Really like this channel, great reviews and great people. But do you guys realize that you are an involuntary ad campaign for tourism in Australia ? The landscape in the videos and the laid back attitude of the team really make me want to discover Australia and its people.
The Lexus LC 500 is a special build line. The workers so nothing but the LC500. MY Skyline had a Prince in front of it. Grey body with a dark blue top and orange strip. Twin, Triple DCOE 40mm Webbers and had a hidden switch that turned plow understeer into snap oversteer at 150kph. I recorded 137mph down Conrod Strait in 1968. I could still see, hear and recover from a hangover in less then 20 hours then. But yes Adam, almost any wagon looks great with a slight drop. My Skoda Wagon has just had a complete engine rebuild so I understand the feeling the owner of the Octavia must be feeling right now. Great video guys.
I've got a 2002 3.5L V6 NM Pajero in the GLX (Pov Pack) trim and honestly love it. The vehicle has 313,000km on it and was not maintained well prior to me owning it and even I have neglected it a bit so it is costing me in repairs from things wearing out. It handles everything I want to throw at it, it is very comfortable on & off road, heaps of room, a great LSD, Not bad on fuel when compared to some other Petrol 4wd's and over all it is very practical. The community around the Pajero as well is amazing, if I need some advice on how to fix something I can always get it and very often I get people putting their hands up to physically come and help me. I have a bloke coming later today to help me install a new crank angle sensor, yesterday he helped me replace my engine mounts. Another vehicle in the small - mid SUV is the Ford Escape ZB. My wife has one of them in the 4cyl version and it is a beautiful car to drive, heaps of space, enough power and loads of comfort. It is AWD with a front bias but does have a 4wd button to engage a Centre Diff Lock. She wont let me take it off road though lol.
Agree with basically everything you guys mentioned. Just surprised you skipped the medium (as it is here in Europe) category. Stuff like the Civic, Mazda 3 etc.
My wife owned a Gen 2 Highlander (same as the Kluger), and while it never left us stranded, we did have a lot of issues with oil leaks. Valve cover gaskets and the timing chain cover twice. It was an 08. I’m sure they fixed that issue with later models, but it seems like a fair number of Toyotas around that time with the 3.5 had those issues.
The LC500 is the best looking car on the road today. It actually looks like a prototype that went into production without being molested by sensible people.
2005 Lexus RX330 with the 3MZ is one of the best mid 2000s SUVs in my opinion. However I agree with Jim on the 3MZ fuel use, the car is excellent until you've gotta tap your card at the petrol station or until you look at the dash and see you're using 17 or 18 litres per 100km.
My former pastor had alphard with MZ Serie engine but that engine was smooth. The problem was it made his pockets empty. It drinks fuel. I wanted to buy it when he was selling it, but prado was better fuel saver. Now I am selling for a fuel efficient car.
Be careful recommending some petrol Mazdas, the 2019 onwards 2.5 non turbo with cylinder deactivation has relatively common problems with cracking cylinder heads!!
I've got a mazda 6 2009 gh 2.2 turbo diesel luxuary sports with 280000 on the clock. I service it regularly and use the proper dpf oil. It runs perfectly and never skips a beat. My partner had a mazda diesel that played up but she took it to the shop for servicing and I'm convinced they didnt use the correct dpf oil because the dpf was always clogged.
I bought a used a Honda Jazz 2nd Gen with the CVT for my first car, it was smooth but developed a bearing noise from the gearbox with less than 80,000 miles. People forget the service interval for the CVT gearbox is 2 years only. Extremely disappointing, a part from that everything worked including the panoramic glass which made the car feel huge on the inside.
This was well worth watching. I settled on the cheapest 987.2 Cayman in Australia (video to come one day) during the first lockdown. I purchased it from Coffs Harbour and drove home the long way. What a fantastic introduction to my first Porsche. Especially with Bose and 14 way seats 👍😎🏁
I think you forgot one. I just bought a 2016 Subaru Levorg shifting a 2006 Toyota Prius with 380 000 km. Both are so far amazing and I cant understand why the Prius isn't on your small or medium cars list. It is a marvel of cheap, practical car with "just enough and some" stuff to make you feel good! Having driven the Subaru for a total of 10 km from the dealer I have no opinion on it yet, but I was looking for yours.
The Accord wagon which is called the Tourer was no afterthought at all. In fact Honda redesigned the rear suspension for the Tourer to free up extra cargo space for more practicality.
I have an 5th Gen Subaru Impreza hatchback sport in manual transmission and I love the little car. Fun to drive, great visibility, practical for hauling, easy maintenance.
I haven’t seen a GTX on the road, let alone a GTR for years and years. My mate had a modded GTR and that thing was quick for its time. I’d like to see a Galant VR-4, Legacy RS and a Pulsar GTi-R on the channel too, just to cover the best of the early 00’s NZ car scene cars.
You forgot the Mazda RX-7 and Nissan 300ZX from around the year 2000. Still look great 25 years later!! The 300ZX is probably the more reliable I imagine!
The VG30's in the 300zx are notoriously difficult to work on, not just because there's no room around it but there's so much crap going on in there that there are so many possible things that CAN break
lol 300zx ( along with the Mitsubishi gto ) in both NA & Twin turbo applications, are some of the most unreliable & expensive to fix jap junk from the early 90s until production stopped 🤦♂️
They didn't rate it when they reviewed the FD Rx7. One of my all time favs however are not a car (well...any rotary) to recommend to a non car person.. requires commitment or it will be the most unreliable car you'll ever own.. and yes, I own an Rx8 and its sensational but would never recommend it to someone with zero mechanical understanding or unwillingness to commit to the Rotary system of ownership. - if you can do that, you have a reliable car :-)
Subaru Liberty pre awful CVT generation were awesome cars. Also wagons cost more to register in Australia so it’s not rocket science why the sedans were more popular. Wagons are classed as a commercial vehicle.
As an old Classic sports car, surely you guys rate the Series 2 (1st gen) Rx7? Glad you didn't miss the LC500 though.. what a car and would LOVE to own one of those. As a Rotary guy, this is a V8 car I'd love to own.
The LC500 is the price-no-object dream car for me. They are absolutely sick looking things and because it's a Lexus it'll start every time and be super nice to be in.
I don't know if you had/have the Nissan Primera P12 (2003-2007) in Asutralia, but they are selling dirt cheap in Europe and are generally reliable cars with mainly small annoying issues = the best bang for the buck Japanese older cars. I see them on sale with +400.000Km and fresh MOT. I bought a 2007 1.8L full spec Primera with leather interior, color reversing camera, active cruise control, rain sensor, auto dimming mirrors.... with only 134.000 Km for 1000€. Unbeatable value for very little money. Just one thing to keep in mind, the 1.8L (QG18DE) engine suffers from the same issue as many Toyota's = it burns oil but its just how that engine is. The 1.6L (QG16DE) variant has a very weak gearbox. The 2.0L QR engine has cam chain issues. So the best alternative is the 1.8L burns some oil, but has a stronger gearbox and no known chronic cam chain issues.
nearly bought a Lexus NX, love the interior but too generic outside... also looked for a Rukus for a while but wasn't one with the right options at the time.
Kizashi has the J24 engine which is a bit of a pile of junk compared to most Suzuki engines. You don’t get them coming through not because they’re reliable, but because there aren’t many of them around. Dynamically they were better than the Accord Euro, but engine and weight was a huge letdown. Interesting, but not one to be on the ‘buy’ list.
You know for me, I'd have wanted to see R31 Passage GT in the list there. Those old pillarless sedans were just so amazing, and the mid-80s plush velour armchairs inside were next level. I'd hate to have an accident in one, but man. I always wanted to do a Passage wagon build.
I've got the current model, great car. I was less impressed with the previous model, with very different engine characteristics, needing more revs, many more gear changes. Was a great car, but would be tedious around town.
Awesome stuff! Keen to hear your preso about electrification, sounds very relevant. Can you share your plans for the Geely visit? I’m keeping an eye out for the Farizon SuperVAN Aussie news…!
I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of the then-new Lexus GS back in the early 20-teens and it was being held at a private circuit up on the central coast. What I wasn't expecting was for Lexus to have an LFA there too. Though we weren't allowed to sit in it, they did have it do a few laps with a racing driver behind the wheel. O M G ... . I'd already loved the car but to hear that engine sing in real life ... to this day I've never heard anything as magical.
Aurion is my pick. I'm a sucker for those bland, boring and unattractive Japanese sedans. And it was locally made. I used to work for one of the major parts supplying companies for TMCA. Done a whole lot of parts for Camrys and Aurions.
@@kymharris269 awesome. How's it serving you? Any problems? Heard series 40 cars can suffer from pulling to the left and oil cooler/vvti lines break easily due to being made from rubber. And there's a rattle on cold starts.

A hugely underrated car that people forget about and is near impossible to find now is a Toyota celica st162 sx. Only in SX form though with the 3sge motor. Yamaha designed cylinder head. Had the privilege of seeing a LFA in the metal/carbon close up, and you can too! In the Toyota automobile museum in Nagoya Japan, that and so many other makes and models, something for everyone there.
The new updated Honda Civic with the 2 litre / 2 motor Hybrid. What do you guys think? Can you do a review on it. I think it's the best hybrid under $50K. Great build, good rear seating and boot space, looks expensive, 0 - 100km in 6.2 sec, 4.2 litres - 100 & a great drive.
Gen two Rav 4 in two litre form has an issue with the auto trans... The transmission fails due to the ECU. people replace the trans and wonder why it fails again. Not a huge problem now, as most of em are dead and buried, but something to think about if you have transmission issue in one
Mk5 prelude 2.2 vtec. Please review one if you can, back in the 2000s when we used to take it to honda for service, the mechanics used to try to have a go in it over the s2000 because it felt so good to drive and it was quick for its time.

my ls600 can be often seen getting martini supplies. lillet le blanc. grey goose / belvedere / fire and ice.

How does Corolla wagon handles?
ISF owner here and for the money you can't really beat it as a package, got my 2011 for $33K
I agree. The ISF is the perfect size and great performance. I like it over the GSF but would take a GSF is the right one becomes available
Agree, I opted for the RCF that V8 is incredible.
IS F owner here too, it's great
Perfect car apart from the interior

3 things …
1. Excellent content as usual …
Random suggestion can we have some older retro cars on the channel? Be cool to see them featured and see how they’re standing up
I'm 78yo. I have been driving a 2015 FRS since it was new. Now ten years old and 74,000 miles. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it so far. I have owned over 60 cars in my lifetime and this is the most fun to drive car ever. For under $26,000 new, how could I go wrong.
It is very difficult to find that sort of value nowadays. Cars are way over priced now.

One of the best looking cars on the road full stop. I know a lady with the Soul Red, high spec model, bloody gorgeous (the car, not the lady!).
Honda Jazz, Pajero and HRV are cracking cars. I've owned all three, and they've never let me down. I agree that LFA would be my dream purchase.
Never again
😅😅😅😅 great description
@@HaiNguyen-lf1mq Mazda really should go to prison for building that 2L. Pity the hire companies don't offer the 2.5L as an option then.
Why does the Suzuki GTi swift never show in your radar? The 90s pocket rocket, ive had mine since new 30years on
GTIs are pretty rare here these days. Swift Sport is a regular fixture on these guys lists of great cars (because they are). I guess it just didn’t make the basic bland small car category nor the sports car category.
I’m surprised the swift didn’t make an appearance
…and the Odyssey.
Too expensive for a barebones “cheap” car
My quick list:
Small car - Swift Sport (not really in the sports car category, better looking and more fun than any of those mentioned).
Love my swift sport.. coolest looking small car on the planet and so much fun it’s ridiculous!
Large SUV I would go 2015 J150 Prado. Updated pistons 1KD engine. Very reliable.
In addition to an already great list. I recently got myself a zc33s swift sport and it’s so much fun for the money. Handles like a go kart and feels quick, especially on the street.

Someone in the comments called it, they forgot the Suzuki Swift, but that's a good thing, don't want the prices skyrocketing!

@murrieteacher why do you have a russian teen onlyfans video in your favourites. Are you some kind of pedo?

DC2 R mentioned! 😁 Mine's got the black Recaros too. MX-5 obvs. Very good call with the Celica GT4. Great car.
“Without being molested…” 😅
2005 Lexus RX330 with the 3MZ is one of the best mid 2000s SUVs in my opinion. However I agree with Jim on the 3MZ fuel use, the car is excellent until you've gotta tap your card at the petrol station or until you look at the dash and see you're using 17 or 18 litres per 100km.
My former pastor had alphard with MZ Serie engine but that engine was smooth. The problem was it made his pockets empty. It drinks fuel. I wanted to buy it when he was selling it, but prado was better fuel saver. Now I am selling for a fuel efficient car.
same as my '16 gs-f .. depending how you drive around town .. 17-22 litres/100km open road 7.5km perlitre // so 15/16litres ./100km. 477hp
Be careful recommending some petrol Mazdas, the 2019 onwards 2.5 non turbo with cylinder deactivation has relatively common problems with cracking cylinder heads!!

Would you be able to take a look at a Mazda 323 GT-R, if you can lay your hands on one? (Not the GTX, but the proper GT-R)
Thumb up for the DC2 Type R!

So the best alternative is the 1.8L burns some oil, but has a stronger gearbox and no known chronic cam chain issues.
no primeras here
Another great effort, guys!

nearly bought a Lexus NX, love the interior but too generic outside... also looked for a Rukus for a while but wasn't one with the right options at the time.
Nice video guys!! Love to see the Kizashi in the list. Such a lovely car.
What happened to the Suzuki Swift Sport? You have mentioned it quite a few times in other posts. Such a fun and cheap car to drive..
I've got the current model, great car. I was less impressed with the previous model, with very different engine characteristics, needing more revs, many more gear changes. Was a great car, but would be tedious around town.
