Model S Plaid vs Model 3 Performance 1/4 Mile

- How does a Model 3 Performance do against the fastest car Tesla currently has? How much faster is the Model S Plaid? Watch the video and see what I believe is the first time that a Model S Plaid has raced a Model 3 Performance (since originally posting this video I have seen 2 videos of the same race between a Plaid and a Model 3 Performance. In both those videos they started weird, like the Model 3 was given a head start. So I still think my video is the first legit heads up race between the two cars). 3 races. Normally I edit videos in the order I film them but I had so much fun with these races I decided to do this video right away. I hope you all like it. Please Like, Share and Subscribe!
WARNING: During the first race I got excited and dropped some F-bombs. If that's an issue for you skip to the 1:00 minute mark and watch the 2nd two races.

If you ever experienced a Model 3 Performance you know how shockingly insane that Model S Plaid pull must have felt 🚀🚀🚀
I drive one everyday and nothing on the street can hang normally... especially muscle cars with way more power and only rwd.
I own a 2021 M3P and it's fast...
That Plaid... OMG
Yes, I drove the 3P for 80.000km, from march 19 to jan 2023. But now rocking the YP.
I do miss the 3P accelleration, however I wonder how the plaid feels :P
The 3P does go into the 1G realm accelleration wise. I have yet to try the YP on summer wheels, but I think I have to go square on the wheel setup as I also miss the oversteer from the 3P. The YP on staggered wheels is too neutral I think.
I have both cars, I can tell you, the difference in G force is on a different level
@@hobby_dude_yeah I barely beat a model 3 performance in my mustang but that is tuned on ethanol etc. Way harder on my gas motor to to keep up with something so simple. Electric seems like so much less headache.
Traded in my Model 3 Performance for 19" Model S Plaid. The difference is insane.
That's awesome!
Thats awesome🙌Plaid is the king
That’s a huge upgrade! What job is able to pay that?
Cool story bro. Whats next

Recently experienced the brutal acceleration of a Model 3 Performance, and think our bodies might struggle with the G Forces in the Plaid. Seriously quick
Lol it's insane.
I just drove one and I had to stop because I’d never experienced anything close and I almost blacked out
If they make a Plaid Model 3 it's game over ;)
Yes... exactly... where is it
@@JustMeTalkingword on the street is it's going to happen soon. ;) tri motor 800hp.
As a owner of both a 2022 Model S Plaid and a 2022 Model 3 Performance I can tell ya they are night and day difference. Both amazing cars though
great vid man!! .. maybe next vid M3P vs LR MS 2022! :D//
I can't afford an S nor a m3 performance.. i have an ordinary m3 rwd.. and yet i smoke 90% of the gas vehicles out there… get your tesla, if you are a car enthusiast , you will love it..
Jesus the plaid traps faster in the 1/8 than you do in the 1/4
Damn GONE.
Have u seen the guy that has a drag hack that allows his pd3 Tesla to get almost perfect timed starts on the drag strip?
I have not

Fast forward to 7:35
Cool, they have control boxes that will do that for bracket race cars. It's probably a similar set up.
Why is this even a video. Of corse the peasant model 3 is slower.
Thanks for watching!
M3P is $70K with FSD…It’s still quite expensive, I wouldn’t call it a peasant.
@@TheGomezIndustries lol that is exactly what a peasant would say. Lol
@@rorythekid89
Clearly you don't know the value of money. I bet you drive a piece of shit clunker or might not even own anything more expensive than a juice box. LOL!
@@TheGomezIndustries ha ha I own a model S that’s is why I have the right to call them a peasant car.
If you ever thought to yourself that electric cars are merely golf carts and slow af, take one of the fast Teslas (model 3 performance) for the street that is less than C8 Corvette money (and ironically still is head to head with c8) and destroys like 99.9% of stock vehicles in the world! and run against the plaid which then makes it look like it is standing still in the 1/4..... it really puts the plaid into perspective and is so far ahead of anything out there in tech and raw speed for only 120k. It has my respect.
It's crazy that Plaid trapped higher in 1/8th then M3P in 1/4 mile
I didn't even notice. Lol
Now that’s ridiculous
Wow good catch! I just told my wife that as evidence of my need for a plaid. She didn’t understand why I cared so much.
@@MrCarCrazy Because she is female 😛
respect...
When people tell me my M3P is stupid quick and I try to explain to them the plaid is twice as fast. They usually don’t believe me. This is a great video to show them 😅
Glad someone posted a good comparison run. The plaid is simply bonkers. I'd love to see a long range s against you as they now trap 130+ in the quarter but claim the same 0-60 as a 3 performance!
I'd love to run one too. But you don't see them too often at the track.
@@M4.Martin oh absolutely, prob have to reach out to a local one and get them to come up. Either way thank you for the content you have killed it over the past few years
Thanks for the support.
I've seen other videos and new LR Model S runs 10.8s
Nice! I'm hoping the cybertruck will do the same. Won't have to get a cage, it's still really fast and will be really practical.
I just ordered a M3P knowing it will be the quickest car I've ever owned. Imagining the plaid is just insane.
Love my model 3 performance. But desperately want a plaid. I’ll own one in 5 years
Pre-race: Preparing myself for the sadness of you getting beat
3 seconds into first race: I need to trade my model 3 performance in on a plaid (I’ve been thinking this for months. But holy crap).
Second race: I don’t really need my second kidney
Third race: I’ve got a testicle and a kidney for sale.
Lol
The funny thing is, when I'm at the track, I beat every hellcat I lined up with... and they have more hp. This car is so bonkers in speed, that it will take the Nivera @ $2 mil, to reel it in and that could buy me 18 plaids lol
hahaha that's insane!! Even though you got rekt, it was still a lot of fun to watch that thing just drive away. Keep up the great content!
Thanks for the support.
Thanks for the great comparison! Oh and whatever that 360 degree warping effect is was seriously trippy! 😁
Thanks for the support. It's just something that you can do with a 360 camera.
Model 3 Performance needs Plaid version too, considering new BMW M3/M4 are doing 11 secs or even less 1/4 and 0 to 60 in low 3 secs.
True ithink it will come
2022 Model 3 Performance will have carbon sleeved rotors with 0-60 in 2 second range and sustained high end speed like Plaid :)
Yea, a $70k performance model is needed. The S refresh starting at $90k now means there's no option for people wanting a fast Tesla sedan in that $60k-$80k range. It doesn't even need to be a Plaid, just call it Ludicrious and give it two of the Model S motors. They make about 350hp each.
@@InSaN3ViSioN source please ?
@@footdemm Just wait and see :)
Jeezus - he's more than 200' ahead at the finish! I drive a Model 3 Performance and think that's crazy fast. Gotta save up for the Plaid for sure!
Give it a few years and most likely competition will put the same performance in a $60K car.
@@timt1346 used ones are already available at 60k haha
and I thought the model 3 performance was fast enough
Imagine a Tesla Model 3 Plaid
3 motors... 0-60mph in 1.6 seconds
Good Lord. I didn't realize it would be THAT
severe of a thrashing.
Thank you, this is meaningful.
If a M3P gets gapped THAT BAD that other car must run on pure rockets
Amazing, the plaid is faster in the 1/8 mile than the m3p in the 1/4 mile. 117mph vs 116mph.
It's insanely fast!
It's insanely fast!
Man... your times were good in the M3P as well. I own a 2021 M3P and it's a quick car... BUT... that Plaid is something else
I own both a 22' tesla s plaid and 19' M3P. Both Teslas but provide very different driving experiences. The 3 is still a great car after 3 1/2 years. I haven't had any issues so far. Its quick but could use more topend power imo.
ya. I wonder if m3p can beat the plaid at SCCA events due to lower weight. Everytime I've run SCCA with mine, I've been 1st,2nd overall (2nd - 3rd raw) times with stock 4s's.
I agree ...
I drive a Model 3 standard and give everything but Tesla's a hard time... I can only imagine what that Plaid feels like holy shit
Two cars i own now in my life
RS3 8V for my fun with an engine sound
Plaid when I go to car meets and people wanna try beat me it's funny, had a 800hp M3 F80 try to beat me and gosh, it was like I was racing nothing 😂😂
U thought m3p is the best before plaid come out, and now u think plaid is the best before roaster come out. Right now I have a m3p that faster than most street car, and I am waiting cybertruck and roadster. Pass plaid. Imagine that roadster gap plaid very far😅
Dang that’s nuts!! But still a good run!
The things about Teslas.... is that there ARE no losers!! Hehehe... Nice numbers, I've only seen Model 3 Performance doing 11.8 at best, you've got some great reaction times!
I've driven both and I thought they would be closer than that. Both feel insane
model s plaid is gonna win for sure
The plaid looks like an RC car taking off, just absolute bonkers quick.
Wow i thought my m3p was fast🤣
Thanks for sharing
You're welcome, thanks for the support.
Hey you won the R/T!! If that matters 😜
That's the only thing I had a chance with.
I’ve never been in a Tesla but wow that was insane. I’ve been destroyed by regular model 3s at red lights so that plaid is probably insane
It is very insane!
One might say beyond ludicrous... like plaid?
OMG Just when I though my Model 3 P was fast 😂😂😂
Dude racing a base model like it’s a plaid or something lol
Test drove the Models S yesterday. It’s. Not the plaid but dam that car is so quick. I want to test dive a plaid so bad. But you get a better money to fun ratio buying the M3 Performance.
That was the long range. Dual motors, 670hp. They have done 10.6@129mph 1/4 mile runs. All for $75 grand.
Jesus, that’s gap tho 😮. That plaid is bonkers fast.
Damn were inside the plaid spiritually. You sounded like you were.
Lol. I got excited seeing it the first race. That's one of the good things about losing, when I'm winning sometimes I want to get excited and say stuff or yell but I also don't want to come across as a jerk. I'm a pretty humble person normally and the last thing I want to do is make someone I beat in a video feel bad about it.
@@M4.Martin don't cast or swear then offensive words don't cuss
What are you trying to say.
@@M4.Martin don't say any F word
I'll try not to. But can I say "fast"?
is your model 3 performance completely stock? any weight reduction or different performance tires?
I have a set of 18 inch konig Hypergrams with 265/45 Bridgestone Supersport street tires on. Otherwise stock.
If you’re in any road legal car at a drag strip and a plaid pulls up to you, you instantly know you’re dead 😂😂
That is true with even the m3p honestly, but an absolute in the plaid.
Can I PLEASE just have ONE. ONE perspective of this from the Model S?
The tesla engine sounds pretty good to be honest
being in the cabin it does actually, an ICE would be louder but the tesla motor does sound pretty good at full throttle
For people newer to the racing scene, a 707 horsepower Hellcat Charger/Challenger runs right around an 11.5 second 1/4 mile, just like this Model 3 Performance. The Plaid is annihilating cars.
I wish i had the money to upgrade from the 3 to the S. I need them G's.
I could do it but I'd have to make a lot of changes and give up carefree spending. I also like not having to worry about if I'm going to get kicked off the drag strip after every pass. Because I'm not willing to put a cage in a $140k car. If I didn't plan on getting the cybertruck I might consider the long range Model S though.
@@M4.Martin The drag strip that the "tesla plaid channel" guy recently goes to is letting him do it cause the regulation actually says that cars that come stock from the factory (not modified) don't need roll cages. Hopefully more drag strips start reading that fine print.
Not if they are faster than 10 seconds 1/4 (6.4 1/8) or 150 mph unless NHRA changed the rules this yeah or he is at an unsanctioned track.
@@AllanSustainabilityFan here is the actual rule from the NHRA rule book.
"Additionally, requirements and specifications for Street Legal and other local NHRA member track events are the same as those for the Summit Racing Series with the following exception. 2008 OEM model-year and newer production cars running slower than 9.99 (*6.39) and 135 mph do not have to meet the requirements and specifications for the Summit Racing Series except for the following: Convertibles and T-tops must meet Summit Racing Series roll-bar and roll-cage requirements. Vehicle must pass all highway safety requirements in the state in which the vehicle is registered. Unaltered OEM installed antilock brakes, airbag functions, as well as all other OEM safety related systems must be functioning as per manufacturer’s specifications. Note: Tires used may be other than OEM, but they must be DOT-approved, All drivers must meet the Summit Racing Series helmet and protective-clothing requirements for the e.t. and mph of vehicle."
So any vehicle going 9.99 or faster or 135.1 mph or faster is required to have a roll cage. I'm pretty sure IHRAs rules are very similar.
Damn that thing went ghost
WOWWWWW
Model 3 performance 0-60 in 3 seconds
Model S Plaid 0-60 in What is gravity?
I own a Model Y performance and it’s pretty damn quick. This video concerns my organs.
If plaid just coasts after 1/8 th mile it will still win
Probably not especially with regen.
@@M4.Martin I meant no Regen just hold at 120mph
Oh yeah they'd definitely still win.
@@M4.Martin I'm not sure how he runs his car, but some of the Tesla plaid channels races were sandbagged and one way he'd do it is to let off the accelerator after the 1/8th. He was still getting low 10s at like 95 mph
He wasn't lifting.
The inital g force looks about the same?
My reaction time was a little better so I think that's part of it. Also there are limits to the balance between power and traction. So even though the plaid has way more power it can't use all of it right off the line until it gets rolling. It also weighs around 700+ lbs. more than the Model 3.
I have 2020 Performance model 3 and I want the Plaid so bad after this video!!!!
Master Ninja vs brother ninja. Plaid is fukn NUTZ
but it was interesting. family cars))
🤯 wow, that was crazy to see. Tesla making EV believers out here, sheesh
What size wheel and what tires (and size) did the model 3 performance have?
I think it's an 18x9.5 with a 265 Bridgestone potenza sport during this race.
Is not the same knowing is faster than my car as seen it in a video.
I don't know why you still kept on racing him after the first pass...But I enjoyed it
Because it's fun. I don't mind losing I know there are faster cars. Anyone that expects to win every race or only race when they expect to win hasn't been racing long.
The main reason I started putting effort into this channel was to show how the Model 3 Performance compares to other cars. The spectators that were there loved it too.
What would also look cool is if you had a view of the plaid toying with you like a cat with a mouse.
Yeah. Not sure how the track would like that though.
Geezus
Lol Jesus
What camera are you using?
GoPro Max.
M3P vs Model S Plaid without cheetah mode if that would make any difference.
It would make a slight difference in the Plaids time but it would still destroy the model 3 performance.
@@M4.Martin It does make me fear how fast EVs can be without any modification. I see regular ICE cars driving on the street like the are at the race track. It can become very danger very quick when everyone's got 0 - 60 mph in 5 seconds or less. We got great power, but sometimes lacking in the responsibility department.
Yes that's true but for a fraction of the cost (less than $20k) people can buy a motorcycle that's just as fast if not faster. Granted a car feels much safer than a motorcycle and can do more damage if it hits something else. But the beauty of an EV is how controllable it is. A 500hp + ICE car is harder to control than a 1,200 hp EV.
With EVs becoming more popular in Motorsports manufacturers of ICE vehicles have also stepped up their performance capabilities. I think at the end of the day it's part of progress. The cars get faster, then they need to get safer, then people get comfortable with them, then they get faster. Compare the brakes on a late 60s muscle car to its modern edition.
But I agree society as a whole could use a little more responsibility and common sense. Or at least a better / more realistic understanding of their own abilities.
What. The. Fck. 🤯
