  • Anto RetroGamer Plays: Sonic Chaos - Sonic & Tails in Japan - for the SEGA Game Gear. This is a 'Perfect' walkthrough of Sonic Chaos, which means collecting all six Chaos Emeralds for the game's best ending, without taking any damage. This walkthrough is divided into six parts for each zone, with two short Acts, a Special Stage and a boss Act.
The Special Stage system is quite unique in Sonic Chaos; obtaining 100 rings at any point in the stage, which this game has a lot of. Not only does this give an extra life, but automatically ends the stage. There are only five Special Stages, despite their been six Chaos Emeralds. Robotnik drops his Chaos Emerald, only is Sonic has collected the other five before defeating him. While many stages are easy to collect 100 rings, I will be limiting Special Stages to only one per Zone for a more streamlined walkthrough. Just bear in mind that Tails cannot enter Special Stages in Sonic Chaos, and will get the 'Bad Ending' by default.
Sonic Chaos, SEGA Game Gear - Stage 1: Turquoise Hill Zone. A very easy opening Classic Sonic level. Every Act in Sonic Chaos is very short, and most can be simply blasted through in under 30 seconds. Despite the very low difficulty, a priority should be collecting 100 rings. Getting two Chaos Emeralds early on will set you on your way to the 'Good Ending' of Sonic Chaos.
Sonic Chaos' first Special Stage is very easy: simply activate the Rocket Sneakers, and stay centre-screen for your first Chaos Emerald. The bigger priority here however, is to get extra lives. Each giant ring counts as 20, as opposed to a singular value as normal. With some practice, it is possible to rack up four lives simply by holding left to get more giant rings in clusters. Rocket Sneakers here are unlimited, but don't get too greedy for extra lives as their is still a timer in place. Sonic Chaos is an easy Sonic game in any case, and you should get plenty of continues to boot.
BOSS: Lady Bug - What can be said here: it...exists!?! If you somehow manage to die to this boss, then I don't know what to say. Simply Spin Dash into either side of Lady Bug five times to defeat it. Should take only a handful of seconds to win. Simply holding down the Spin Dash in one spot, will still harm it, sending you flying back. Lady Bug doesn't even travel the far sides of the screen once it appears, so you even have two safe spaces to work with. Very easy on either version.
