Another way im learning to take this is: so many people get complacent, they live a routine, they live life waiting for a break, a miracle, a fantasy dream to come true. I'm stuck in the same rut. But reality isn't going to do that. We get what we make in this life. It's harsh but true for most.
I found your channel from H3 and have enjoyed a bunch of your content, I was so excited to find this! My Dad passed away a week before lockdown (unrelated to COVID, he had a stroke in recovery from heart surgery). A month later, the Midnight Gospel saved me from myself. I'm an only child and the last remaining member of my family now at 32. Every single episode found a way to worm its way into a heart that didn't want to accept the world was going to keep turning without the people I love on it. It helped me to accept the gift of grief. Being able to appreciate every moment no matter how mundane, and to be grateful for the time that I get with the people I love. It taught me to be a lot less hard on myself. You've encapsulated my sentiments about this piece of work so precisely. Fantastic job as always, and thanks to anybody who read this far.
ah thanks for watching and sharing your story. my mom was diagnosed with cancer a month after the midnight gospel came out and she passed away like 9 months later. that last episode hurts a lot. its a really beautiful show and I hope netflix will let it free for someone else to pick it up. I hope you find fulfillment to make your life happy and meaningful
@@tallskeleton The last episode gets me every time no matter how many times I've seen it. Losing a parent is a completely different kind of deep, lifelong grief. Watching somebody you love lose their battle with cancer or something I hope I never see again. I also hope Netflix gets their dirty little paws out of it. You can tell it was made with a lot of passion and care, and it would be a shame to see that potential (and jobs for animators) fall by the wayside.
i always try to find what bothers me so much about life and why i was so scared of dying and nothing having purpuse and stuff like that , but i could never find anything on the internet, but i could really relate to Midnight Gospel.
I hope this was helpful to you to some degree - it can be hard. but getting more comfortable with yourself, and the feeling can make things more tolerable and you can regain presence more and more with your days. headspace app is good
The question isn't if this channel will blow up, it is when! Seriously though, you guys are awesome and yall deserve so much more attention than you get
Yo I think this is going to be one of my favorite UA-cam channel you have the same interest in UA-camrs & musicians as I do can’t wait for the next videos you release keep it up
Steven Munoz thank you! I make music videos, short films, music visualizers, podcasts, and video essays :) I’m hoping it’ll be a good channel for artsy people
this video and generally the midnight gospel, mean alot to me. I personally think about death alot and I'm glad things like mg and subsequently video essays on it reel me back in and let me think about it a bit Even then no one is expected to fully understand and be at terms with it it's just a good thing to comprehend sometimes good video skeletal guy :)
The eternity we spent prior to when we were born combined with the eternity we will spend after we die is equal in existential importance to the brief blink-of-an-eye amount of time we will spend alive on this earth. However you may choose to interpret that, I just wanted to give context to how precious of a gift each day we spend living our lives is.
I just watched the show for the first time. And it hurt so bad, In the best way. The one and only complaint I have with the show is how Clancy as a character never got to reconcile with his sister
Man this channel deserves sooo much love this is just a thought but you should do your own videos on some of the major sound cloud rappers like juiceWRLD xxxtentacion and lil peep idk just a thought but love your stuff keep it up !❣️
man this was phenomenal. You connected some dots for me that I was trying to tackle after I watched midnight gospel. Thank you for this amazing commentary
Damian Echols is my favorite one alongside Duncan's Mom which is the sublime episode. Magick in general is so interesting and it's my favorite episode.
@@tallskeleton It is good, did they say that quote in the movie? People may tell you to accept death, but you don't have to if you don't want to. There is already dignity in fighting for life, right up until the end. I plan to sign up for cryonics myself.
@@Eudaletism yeah they say it in the movie 3 or 4 times. Michael Caine’s character. And I actually agree with you. I wanna take care of myself and have a good long time
Having watched most of the series and the last episode, I have come to a conclusion. The video essays on the Midnight Gospel are considerably better than the Midnight Gospel, but the most important parts of the Midnight Gospel are not in any video essay.
@@tallskeleton UA-cam keeps suggesting all these video essays on the Midnight Gospel. They pump me up to watch the Midnight Gospel. I watch an episode and think "Other than those one or two points this episode kind of dull." Then I stop watching until another video essay persuades me to give it another try. I think I have went through this cycle 5 times. I think that the Midnight Gospel is ultimately a conversation piece. It value is not in what it inspires directly, but in the conversations in inspires.
@@tcironbear21 I found the conversations the show has very personally meaningful and brought me to think a lot about life, my own life and other's at a pretty introspective and grand bigger picture scale. Way to start out not knowing what you are talking about. So you watched the final episode twice right? How do you jot know it wasn’t 20 minutes long? That was literally the only extended episode the show had and the other episodes were even over 20 minutes.
Im not sure what you mean since I said that the final episode was extracted from a 2 hour + podcast with his mom, and also said that the other episodes were also adapted from other longform podcasts. I think you misunderstood me to be saying the opposite of what I said. Regardless glad you like the show SirEvilestDeath
His mom is so soft spoken, her character design in the show is amazing.
So sad she passed before the show came out
This channels gonna blow up and I’m so happy I’m here before it does, in a year we’re gonna be boomin

Duncan said Netflix cancelled it and they own the rights so they can’t take it anywhere else either :((
