Clancy distracting himself from his real issues by going to these alternative universes is another reason of what makes this show so familiar and relatable, even if the settings and worlds are out of our imagination.
ive watched this show 6 times over and over again, and everytime i learn something new. the last episode i took into heart because my grandma told me something similar before she died. i get remembered of her everytime i watch that episode. I appreciate the midnight gospel so much.
This show changed my life and I’ve rewatched it at least 5 times. It has taught me so much and that last episode always gets me. It’s such a good show.
This was beautiful dude. I tend to gravitate to videos that use a piece of art as a stepping stone to comment on their own personal experiences and life changing epiphanies and it's so fitting that you used The Midnight Gospel as your stepping stone. This show was immensely impactful on first viewing and left me asking some of the same questions you're asking. I loved that part about not being a fan of people who have a tendency indulge in philosophy without being self aware about it. I find that the people who are like this tend to not have much range in their life experience. I also really loved how you had the muffled background music to really drive home that empty/fulfilling feeling this show leaves you with. This was awesome and I'm glad you made it.
I cried so much during the last episode that I had to show it to my mom. It was such a cathartic feeling to share _especially_ considering the fact that Duncan's mom died just 2 weeks after the podcast itself.
I´ve shown the last episode to everyone I truly love and I think watching this together with these people makes them love me in a different, new, divine way. We feel vulnerable and are able to face the void, together. That´s a beautiful thing. Thank you for acknowledging it
I loved much of this show. And your essay on it. However, there were aspects of the show that I saw myself in. A younger, more self-absorbed self. I could see it in some of his interviews, where he was spending too much time navel gazing than actually listening to the people he was interviewing. However, they were all so kind and shared so much, nonetheless. Something that gets me is that the reason he's exploring dying worlds is because he's not taking care of his simulation machine. Those worlds could be thriving yet he is too busy exploring himself and his problems with people who are arguably very real, though they are simply structures created by a hyper-intelligent AI simulator. Actually it is likely they are real and in parallel universes because of the fact that artifacts can be harvested from the simulation. Anyway, it just seems like the worlds and the people around him suffer to give him realizations. Does he really ever learn? Regardless, I learned a lot and felt a lot. You may forget a good show and all its details, but the emotional imprint it leaves on you can change you forever.
I'm your thousandth subscriber! Your videos are excellent in a way that no other video essayists' are. Please, please continue to write these; there are people that really care and I am one of them. You have Hemingway's rhetoric and Bryan Cranston's command of intensity. I think you're really going places.
I can’t believe this is being recommended to me right now, during an insanely difficult time of my life. This video needs so much more attention man, thank you for making this
this video makes me so happy to watch. it's got some kind of vibe to it that feels really safe and i really like the way you worded everything here :] the midnight gospel is really a wonderful show and it's nice to see someone talk about it
I had mixed feelings about the show, some parts I enjoyed more than others (the animation was consistently sick though). but I really enjoyed listening to what you had to say, this was a very thoughtful and sensitively thought out video. so thank you for making this :-)
I’ve been on my way to watch this show for so long. When I watched your over the garden wall video and later saw you made this one, I knew it would be for me. I actually paused the video and watched it, It was such an eye opener to listen to everything they had to say. So thank you for making this video and somehow convincing me to watch the midnight gospel by just that intro
@@_xis.byz_ lmao I honestly still haven't watched it but to be fair I also haven't watched any other tv shows so it's more just because I don't like watching tv shows.
Dude.. same. It was certainly meaningful and impactful. A friend of mine told me to watch it and it was a really fresh ride. I saw this one and Over the Garden Wall the same day and I had a lot to think about it, both of them were fantastic! I love that both cover deep themes that are very interesting for adults. When I finished the midnight gospel I listened to the whole podcast with Duncan and his mum and oh boy ;) I'm more interested in him and his podcasts now! His voice is so calming! Excellent video! Love it! :) the music background and your calming voice fit so well!
I'm going to say this now, you are a very underrated person. Your content is amazing and so much work goes into this and it shows. You make your videos so well and of such hight quality. Keep it up, you're doing so well.
It took me just two minutes to follow you .. and I don't even follow that many people- you say the words that i've been thinking to find for this show ya know?
Hi I love midnight gospel but I cant watch it even getting though half way others responses to it for me breaks me in a new way there is something beautiful about that i can barely emotionally' handle as an outsider, when the feeling is in front of me i close. its weird.
What an excellent vid. Really well made. What's the song near the end? 5:55 Edit: and the stuff at 2:12? What is all the music actually? It was well picked
Out of context, "maybe I like to be broken" is the stupidest edgy pseudo-intelectual phrase I've heard, it made me laugh thinking of some 13 yo writing poetry in their room while their mom calls them for dinner. Good thing it's in context. You've made a very compelling video essay, and should be proud.
I know this may be different to what you may usually see. But you should watch attack on titan. It's really goooooood but also very sad and heart breaking
you care way too much about the stuff u watch while wasting away
Just be here now

It's been months since I first watched tmg and I still haven't forgotten it. It's literally so great
That last episode of the show was the only thing to make me cry in the last 6 or so months. It was really something else.
I´ve shown the last episode to everyone I truly love and I think watching this together with these people makes them love me in a different, new, divine way. We feel vulnerable and are able to face the void, together. That´s a beautiful thing. Thank you for acknowledging it
