freaky fujoshi, you switch between indefinite articles “a/an” depending on the sound that is produced not the actual letter. So what you tried to say, but failed, is that you use “a” before consonant sounds and you use “an” before vowel sounds. Your explanation makes no sense for words like “x-ray” or “utensil”.
As a kid I would think I did a great job of not drinking pool water until im called to wash up and some asshole makes the water wave and it goes in my mouth
I taught myself how to swim and as a result, I've never been able to do this and I've always wondered how. Now all I have to do is wait till summer and put this practice to the sword. Great tips!
I discovered I do know how to swim after accidentally swimming to the deep side of a lake I knew I could swim but not really, so I was swimming thinking it was not deep then I tried to stand and that’s when I knew I was a goner... my fear was so big I went to wild mode and started doing all kinds of fake ass strokes all the way from doggie swim to aqua man luckily they all worked I guess, because I’m here writing about it 🤣
Same! But when I was in 10 or in deep feet,I do a dog swim just to breath some air and swim back to the wall were I was clingung on to or to reach my kick board.

Giggly KittenZ were you able to learn right away after watching this video ? How did you do it? Goin to Hawaii in 2 weeks it’s more like I will drown and die there🤦🏽♀️😳🤯😰please help!!
Whenever I was visiting family in Seattle last year I had trouble treading water. I couldn’t do it at all. My auntie explained it by telling me just move rapidly in the water and you won’t sink. I did and it worked! After I got comfortable with that then I played around with it a bit bc it did drain quite a bit of energy after a while. So I eventually just played around with it when I was sure that even if what I tried didn’t work while trying to tweak my water treading skills, I could always go back to my rapid hand motions and kicks. Eventually I developed a way to tread water my way. And I made that way my own. It was really nice.
I have recently started to try to learn to swim again. I tried years ago, but I gave up. These videos are really helping me. Seeing rather than just hearing is beneficial. I think I am going to succeed this time.
After 30 years of fearing the water, I just learned to conquer my fear of it yesterday because of the beach. I figured that swimming pools create a claustrophobic sensation in me as it is a "box" with water. I can do back floats but never front crawls yet the learning curve for me was opening my eyes while doing the front crawl. Now I just need more practice and have treading as another float to master. Never conquer your fears, embrace it. It's hard but it works because I did so, so could you 👍🏼
I learned to swim because when I was little my dad threw me in the deep end of the pool and told me to get out 😂 well it worked and I’m gonna enlist in the coast guard now.. fear works! 😂
Bullshit. If fear kept people from drowning, no one would ever drown. According to your nonsense, no one actually learns to swim, they already know. Your dad is just an asshole and you're trying to defend him.
Basically, a lot of people can’t swim so I’m going to attempt to make it more simple. Kick your feet in a circular motion towards you, while you wave your arms calmly. The more you panic, the more you are likely to go underwater. Be careful and most of all, water and swimming should be fun. Don’t panic and remember, the more air you take in, you’ll most likely float, that’s why people take in deep breaths and hold them. Hope this helped even a little bit!
@@patrikku7501 if you meant that your body still sinks, try this, simply lay on the water, breathe normally and you can float like that, you can rest like that, its like laying on bed but instead you lay on the water, spread a bit your arms and legs and dont be scared, btw try it with a family member or a friend just in case
omfg it was this video. This video saved my fucking life. I watched this video the day before I went swimming. I practiced this on my bed like just in case and the next day my uncle threw me into the deep end (it's not his fault. At that time I was visiting my home country in which almost everyone seemed to learn to swim fluently as a toddler) And my god I would have drowned if it wasn't for this video. My mind froze and went to this and I quickly did what I had practiced on the bed the day before, whilst panicking. And that was the day I learned how to stay afloat and swim in one place. I can swim fluently now :)
All my life i have tried going to the deeper side of the pool but my parents always told me not to cause idk how to properly swim. But now that i have a better idea of what to do im gonna beg them to let me try it. If i die well ☺️
I have a 3 to 5 feet pool at my disposal, and I only know how to swim with my kickboard. I kick my feet up in my posterior, and I keep kicking my feet straight back. I keep holding on to my kick board while keeping my elbows straight. My kick board gives me confidence, but without it, I'm lost.
I like hearing the confident statements of beginners in this comment section, but coming from experience as someone who already knows how to swim please never underestimate water and currents. Even a pro can drown. Swim safely and always have some sort of safety precaution in case the unimaginable happens.
Hi, Thanks a lot for this video. This video gives a very clear description for treading. I know to swim but while treading water I feel that I am sinking also it was quite difficult to get breaststroke kicks for treading after learning the freestyle ( I am speaking as a beginner) . I tried using the kick-board to learn breaststroke kicks it is not working. Can you please share videos on breaststroke with kick-board or treading water basic kicking with kick-board, if it is feasible.
benn solomon danny king leo I am not always correct, however, it is my opinion that you should never learn new skills with any swim aides such as a kickboard. They become a crutch by not allowing your body to feel what its like to move itself through the water unassisted. I recommend trying the Front Glide & Kick approach where you place one hand on top of the other, head down entirely below water in order to raise your body to the surface, then try the kick once your body is stabilised. For a reference on how a Front Glide should look, check out the Basics of Buoyancy video on our page. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :)

swimming on your back in deep water works pretty good, sometimes all you really have to use is your arms and not panic, you can just chill, just dont get too chill and fall asleep lol
This right here. I'm probably just opinionated but I do believe the skill in trying to stay afloat and water treading is more important than the the swimming itself. I don't believe that majority of people that claim they don't know how to swim, actually "don't know how to swim". I believe it's really easy and it's instinctive to be able to know how to propel oneself in water from Point A to Point B, deep water or not. What's difficult however, is trying to stay above water in one area. This is really anecdotal but I know this for myself because I just do not know how to float properly having my head above water in one place where I can talk while floating, but I also do not know how it's not possible to not be able to move my body from one point to another. The former is much more needed. The latter is useless for non-floaters if they're in open water since they don't have edges to cling on to.
@Real Aiglon They drown because they don't know how to stay afloat and tread--not swim to be exact. If we're speaking about combined meanings here and you won't consider not being able to stay afloat and treading also not being able to swim then I guess you're correct but if you understood what I've said then you would have not made this reply. Tell a person that "doesn't know how to swim" to swim from Point A to Point B in shallow water and they'll be able to move themselves definitely--they know how to swim in the sense of moving in water. Now, tell said person to stay afloat or tread--most likely they won't or can't and will consider themselves not being able to swim.
been practicing how to keep afloat. not the best but getting over my fear of drowning. my experience of swimming without much knowledge is that the breast stroke and doggy paddle are lifesaving. sometimes even just “power walking” can make the difference of keeping afloat when these techniques dont come to mind. hoping to practice some more since i love water so much.
Back floating is life saving. You don't need to swim. Floating saves your energy. Float, then swim. Treading allows you to look around, but should not be done constantly.
I can swim(BARELY) but only underwater, can't float so as soon as i stop i sink. I get tired easily cause I don't know the proper way, coaches are not in my budget. So i try to go to the pool as much as i can, hopefully this video helps.
I started learning swimming when I was in fourth grade. whenever I was in a shallow waters, I practice strokes that I see on people who swims. gradually I adapted them successfully, until 3rd year high school. So it took me 5 years to able to swim, on deep waters. My last challenge was fear to the deep waters, I was able to overcome it with my friends. Who pressure me to swim to the floating cottage, while holding on to the rope tied to the cottage. Then those idiots started giggling the rope up and down when I was 50 percent away to the cottage, until I let go and Swam like a puppy. Then I realized I was swimming on a deep water, it was like 12 feet deep I was able to see the bottom ground then I started to calm down and swim towards the jokers. Then I lift my self up to the cottage and I tried to swim again to Confirm that I am now able to swim, so I jump to the 12+ feet deep water and I was so happy to be able to swim on a blink. it felt like flying in the first time. while floating I tried various strokes. Like fast swim and casual swim and threading. I practiced deep swimming by grabbing some rocks below the ground and also breath holding. Swimming is really enjoyable, you just have to find a ways to overcome your fears especially on the deep ones. It's really helpful when in case a ship sinks due to an accident. Especially in this Island nation.
The average person 10 to 15 minutes.. People who train often in swimming.. Probably around 30 minutes to an hour... Exceptional swimmers and water athletes can go for a couple of hours at a time id imagine..
I have a knee immonilzation, I can't tread water by bending knee...any form which can help? My left knee only bends 10 degree.. I tried egg beater motion today for 2 hours...had some progress
The trick is to stay calm, the more you panic the quicker you sink. If your cant swim or not very good, start off in water you can stand with goggles, hold your breath and put your head under the water, try to stay calm, do this until you feel confident, then play around with your head under the water, get diving rings or sticks, do this many times, this is the start of confidence in water. dont start threading water if you scared, or will panic, because you will sink.
I just learnt how to float on my back on water in 5min. Only by watching youtube video. It feels good. This way you will never drown in any depth. You can breathe for how long you want😎😎
in Australia we have to learn school. I changed schools and my new friends were in a higher class so I skipped this lesson and jumped in the deep end without properly learning (I can do all other strokes fine just never treading in place) but think I need this for scuba

How long can an average person float like this?
Without a rest? Around 3-5 hours
@Ezechiel Man sorry i didn't read the average part😅, 3-5 hours is the max
The average person 10 to 15 minutes.. People who train often in swimming.. Probably around 30 minutes to an hour...
Exceptional swimmers and water athletes can go for a couple of hours at a time id imagine..

Why am i watching this
Im a swimmer
