  • I got the chassis of the Kyosho Tomahawk completed and it is a piece of RC art!! Here is a breakdown of what is in the kit and then a run down of how the build went. I had recorded a ton of short bit along the way while building but I was using an incompatible SD card in the new camera and I lost all that footage… when it says there may be issues don’t ignore the warnings, there will be issues!!!
    I will be painting the body this weekend and will have the reveal and a running video out soon so hit that subscribey thingy doohickey button and make sure you don’t miss that!!

    I just built a Tomahawk this week. Did exactly the same thing with that front bar as you did . Lol . Also , as I type this , I hear you talking about the paint job. I did custom. Went with a flame and skull stencil kit . Sprayed transparent purple on the body, followed by metal flake , followed by black . Removed the stencils and window masks and sprayed a few coats of smoke tint to darken the windows and flames and skulls to the point you almost cant see them . Now Im gonna order a led light strip kit and light up the sculls and flames using my 3rd channel . Also ordered some scale Hella lights for the roof . Obviously Im not running with the driver installed as Im crazy and put a spektrum 3300 kv with 85 amp esc in it and the esc is too big to have the driver but thats why I tinted the windows . I installed the same motor esc combo in an Ultima I put together a couple weeks ago and its holding it just fine . Gonna do some serious dirt thrashing with the wife this spring with these two awesome buggies !

    Hi Adam! Buggy build looks great! If you decide to go brushless I would use the lower gearing. You should have lots of torque but with the lower gearing it will ease up on the blistering speed! If you find it too fast you can always lower your throttle dual rates on the controller to slow it down! Can’t wait to see it finished! Cheers!

      @@AddamsPlayground 😝!Thanks Adam for the recommendation brother! I will look into this model. How about kyoshos? Any good starters kits they have too that you might recommend? Always loved Rc’s but always figured “ why would I pay so much for something I have to put together?” Pretty silly! Then I got into building those cool little WPL’s which was a lot of fun for very little money. And they perform really well for what they are! So slowly as I have started my channel I’ve been understanding the intrigue and of allure of building these higher end cars and trucks through other channels like yours. Another thing for me is making time to build, as time is something I never have a ton of with family, work,, and chores, fixing everything else I broke or the kids broke🤪. It never increases only decreases! Thinks those are the reason why I’ve never bought them and always gravitated to “ready to run” and fixing them when they break.
      Do they require a ton of space?

      @@BangForYourBuckRc if you are looking for a rtr Kyosho I'd say the mad van brushless is one that would be a blast. For assembly kits from them all of the legendary series are awesome but are pricey and don't include any electronics. The Tamiya kits are better there as most come with the ESC and motor in the kit. For me I love the build part. I get the ease of RTR and also understand the lack of time. I am lucky my build area is not in the house so I can work on them and walk away without the worry of parts going missing from being moved around and kids and cats knocking stuff off the bench! Most kits can be.assembled in about 2-5 hours. I usually do an hour is so and then come back to it later to finish it up. Now if you hate painting then may not be your cup of tea but there are a few kits with pre-printed bodies to make it assembly only.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Рік тому

      Hey Dave! That is cool you have one coming, great build for the holidays!! I generally don't run brushless in my cars as it is too costly with the amount of cars I have and in general I am old school and like the brushed motors. There is not a lot of space in there and a large brushless ESC and fan may be a struggle to fit in there. A smaller one would probably fit in there fine, I think that's why a lot of folks use the Kyosho ones, I just can justify the price of them! Mine is pretty quick with the 1060 and GT Tuned motor and has plenty of punch so for a little under $50 I can run around and have fun but not worry about it sitting around not running either since I don't have a ton of money tied up in running gear!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Рік тому

      I believe the vintage ones did have licensed Goodyear tires on them and like everything it became cheaper to just produce their one style of tires and that became the Sand Supers. I am not extremely well versed in the Kyosho history but I do know some of the old kits did have the licensed tries when the came out but I do not know around what time that started to change over to the Sand Super line of tires. All the legendary ones have the newer versions and none of them sport the licensed tires any longer.
      I do know that now the tire manufacturers take it extremely seriously when licensing tires and you have to either be exacting with the reproductions or they have to be slicks to carry the name brand on them. I think this is relatively new but I do know they are now sticklers for making sure they are as exact as they can be.
