Awesome, Hugh! Subscribe to my channel and like this video, if you haven't already. Thanks for dropping in and all the best with your electric violin quest. T
You can play "like this".. if you put another 2k down for pedals lol. The pitchfork alone is around 150 USD, the cheapest looper around 200 USD (Boss RC-30) vs around 450 USD for the do-it-all- Boomerang III he's using. Add a good acousti amp (500-1200 USD) and other pedals and you're set up. lol
@@aresd2648 I know it's a super late reply, but... Yeah, I agree with this, as a Violinist. The violin is a super complex instrument, and you would need to master the techniques in order to produce a good sound, because the first notes you play will sound like trash, and that's completely normal. Really interesting tour, I look forward to the individual pedal reviews. I'm especially interested in the distortion with a dry/wet control. My big beef with distortions is that (as you said) make violins just sound like guitars, that sounds like a great solution.

Great Video! I have been playing the acoustic violin for about 5 years now (but I'm still not very good at it...). For about a year I've had the dream of getting an electric violin and after this video, I am more determined than ever! Thanks for the amazing demo Trevor. I was thinking of using slight pitch correction (30%) (with a pedal like voicelive for instance) with a string quartet ( one effect per player). Do you think this would work ?
Hey Trevor, great rundown! I was wondering about your compressor. Do you ever play "cleaner" type violin? How useful do you find compression to be on a clean electric violin? I've got a Tonebone PZ Deluxe preamp I go through, and am thinking about running my violin through compression before that. Do you ever use other compressors?
Max, thanks for your comment and for dropping in! I do play a lot of "cleaner" violin and use my compressor all the time. The Diamond is a very transparent compressor and adds warmth and smoothness to my sound. I don't dial it up very high either ... a compressor may be better after your pre-amp. Some pre-amps also have built in compressors, so you should check that. T
