I've had the Revolver X4 and now I have the Roll-N-Lock on my new Ram 1500. A couple thoughts on why I ended up with the roll-n-lock. The Bakflip isn't as secure as you would think. I was able to take a piece of bailing wire and bend a hook into it, slide it in the crack between the cover and the tailgate and pull the latch cable in under a minute. I wanted to test this out because my new tailgate works off an electric solenoid and if it fails I was trying to figure out how I would get into my bed if the cover is indeed locked. The roll-n-lock is one more step with a key but they lock pretty dang solid with metal lugs that shoot into the rails. The Bakflip uses those triangular latches and you can even find videos on youtube showing how easy it is to pry the corner up with those style latches and pop them open. The roll-n-lock is much more secure which was my main deciding factor. Plus if my tailgate latch solenoid fails I can easily get into my bed with the key. Just some thoughts.

Camp Lejeune NC. Allot of people in my company drives a truck including me. Most of us opt for the aluminum rollers or tri-fold. Yes its manual operation but less moving parts and zero maintenance. We have a few that has the rollback or similar products breaking down after two years. My friends cover only retracts by a foot and he has to push it hard to reset the lock. My roller is still working perfectly fine. Just a few melted parts but its under the cover and does not compromise cover and security. Oh I have to change the clip the holds the cover when rolled. Its plastic so very susceptible to wear and tear.

I don't plan on any racks, so the choice for me is easy. The X4S is the way to go. That leaves the stake pockets open for Tec rails.

In regards to your comment about having a kayak... They're usually 10 feet long, and if I attach that To the rack, most of it will be hanging off your five foot bed.... So those rails are kind of useless and only for small items, they would have to be taller or just put a roof rack on the truck... Pretty cool cover

Good comparison... but i highly recommend the Diamondback Tonneau cover. You will pay a tad bit more, but its American made, has the best security, and has a lifetime warranty. It will outlast the life of the truck, unlike these two covers.

I had a roll and lock on my Dakota for 6 years, the only time I didn't like it was in the winter. If we had sleet with icing, there was no way to open it short of going to a self serve car wash and blasting it with hot water. Oh, the joys of not having a garage, other than that it was a good unit. I'm looking at the Revolver for my Ram 1500, to avoid that issue.

All of these auto rolling style covers have always had a huge box behind the cab that holds the cover when rolled, this one is surprisingly way smaller and doesn't take up as much room. I was planning to order the X4s soon but may have to look into the roll n lock a bit more

I put the X4S on my recently delivered F-150 and absolutely love it. Feels secure (at least for a rolling cover), was incredibly easy to install and is low profile. Only thing that bugs me is it doesn't lock in place at certain points along the bed, so only fully open or closed is how it has to be; that's not on the cover though, it's just the nature of rolling covers and I get that so not really any biggie haha I haven't had a single issue so far, but I've heard the manufacturer is incredible with handling warranties for it.

If you want the X4s with tslot rails, buy the Truxedo Elevate TS rails (which are compatible with the X4s) and then you have both. :) They are an additional $230 but worth it if you like the X4s.
I wish they would make a X4s-t with integrated tslot rails, then that cover would be perfect.

Great video! I’m looking for the same tonneau and rack solution for my Jeep Gladiator. Ironically enough, the Revolver X4S for the Gladiator has the T slots while other versions of the X4S do not. However, the Roll-n-Lock XT looks like an awesome option. I want a secure locking tonneau cover for day to day use but the rack option for bikes and other gear only when camping and towing my small camper (4 or 5 times a year). The Gladiator is my first pickup truck and I’ve not have a tonneau cover before so I’m not sure which product will ultimately fit my needs best but one high racking factor is the ease of locking - the Revolver appears to have an edge here as no key is needed. What has been your experience, do you miss the Revolver?

I’ve had multiple retractable covers over the years. Loved the functionality of them, overall pretty secure as well. However over time they all leaked profusely. I couldn’t even keep a pair of boots back there or a gym bag over night if it was going to rain as they’d be sitting in a puddle the next day. I’m curious what your experience is if you have this cover for a year or more.

Hello, Thanks for this video. I am the person who asked about the X4s being able to be held at open positions other than just at the end. You directed me to this video. In this Roll-N-Lock unit I would like to know how the rack stores at the rear (inside) the bed of the truck. Does it take up much space?
I assume the X4s can not be held open at random positions other than the end. Is this a correct assumption?
If I really dont need any of the other add ones such as the basket or bike rack which would you recommend between the two discussed and why?
Thanks for your rapid response for the question previously asked on the X4s video directing me to this video.

    • @TruckOwnership101

The roll-n-lock does use a small space inside the bed for the box storage. But it’s pretty small. A lot smaller then the competitors. (It’s kind of their bragging point. If you don’t want their rack system they have more affordable options. I’d give one of those “non-XT” versions a look. Hope this helps!!

You open it with a key and lock it in any position (not just 2) they are the Retrax and SyntecicaUSA (I've read the synthecicaUSA is more waterproof, but made overseas so it's significantly less money than Retrax)
My big question that I haven't found the answer to yet is: What is the canister size of all 3 brands. I'm thinking the smallest canister combined with the best waterproofing would be my choice.

Did you ever have occasion to remove your X4s? It looks like it is held in place by a couple of bolts up front. Is it easy to remove and replace? I really like the retractable bed covers, but I don't like having space permanently taken up by a cannister. The X4s looks like it could be more easily removed if I wanted to use a truck tent or something.
