    The memories you are creating are priceless, not only do you record and fly great spots. But you have great company, I can see they often have a hand on your shoulder when your flying, I can see the calming effect this has. Great people, great times, great scenery. Love to see people make memories like this.

    great video, sorry about your truck. I know it may not be your cup of tea but I'd love to see some "mid" range flights with smaller quads. Like most people I'm just not willing or able to risk a big 7-10" long range quad, but I enjoy taking my flywoo 4" out a mile or 2. A lot of the lessons you teach have transfered over well and I'm pretty sure your video on setting up switches and GPS rescue save me one quad! I'd buy a Falcon FPV 4" long range quad in a heart beat.

    great adventure documentary. stunning shots over the peaks, what a place to fly. only thing that could have made those peaks better would be seeing foresty forest and rocko sitting on a peak hehehe. it must be great to have a spotter taking care of data and being an extra pair of eyes on the flight. people under estimate how stressful it is flying even one mile away over impossible terrain, and one big thing nobody mentions is flying without a solid horizon, we dont notice how much the visual bit of flat ground informs our stick inputs, take that away and you have to be holding the quad by the scruff of the neck at all times. not to mention not being able to hear the quad, 80mph looks pretty much the same as hovering when your in gigantic arenas. so, to add it all up, flying a mile away is stressful, flying a mile away up a mountain with no horizon or distance visual input, is horrifying. ps. i know these kind of vids are a real pain to put together but please do more.

    Incredible footage, love how supportive your spotter is! Love your enthusiasm for FPV, kinda like how hunters go hunting when they love hunting. your enthusiasm is addictive, and it makes me want to go out and do the same. So please keep sending Content! did it end up being your throwout bearing on your truck? That’s kind of what I was thinking it sounded like from your exclamation of the grinding noise. No one does long range like you, thanks for sharing! BTW, I got my eye on the RPM, but I still haven’t actually used my falcon 7 yet. also, I have purchased helical antennas that look very similar to yours, I just wonder if your DYI ones are better. it’s still on my bucket list to fly with you someday, then we could do a little horse trading. until then, Go FalconRad Fpv!

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  8 місяців тому

      Thanks so much for the comment! The retaining collar for the throwout bearing broke. Haha, you knew what it was right away, it took me a week to convince an auto shop that it was a throwout/pilot bearing issue not an internal problem with the transmission.

  • @materia79

    Very nice roundup of your spot scouting technique! Nice flying as always! Good habit to freestyle in the meantime to keep up the muscle memory for dangerous long range situations as well! 👍
    At 2:20 - is there the chance of bears visiting at night? 🐻 (Haha actually wrote that before I reached the part that your clutch went funny!)
    And why do you use Betaflight? Got used to it and just a habit? INAV has a nice return to home trackback feature now and it works pretty nice but I guess the regular raise altitude before RTH is more suitable for mountains anyways... As long you don't fly around at half altitude of the peak lol!
    However I am watching your videos for quite a while now, just sad that I built a 7" HGLRC Sector already - my next one will be a FalconRad for sure as well!
    Keep flying! 😉

    Hey man, I like this long format with vlog and test flights!
    One thing I noticed is that your dBm level never went down below -70 while in my last flights I was getting -100 while being only 3km away in a U valley with no RF noise, which made me worry a bit. What power level are you running on your radio? I have it set to dynamic but it never goes up more than 250mW...

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  8 місяців тому

      Ditch dynamic mode, I always hear not to use it. It also messes with crossfire, so lock it at 50hz for long range and set it to 500mW.

    Quick question, what are you using for your RC Link? Im guessing crossfire? I see you have the Frsky X-lite, how do you like that radio? I had a Tango2 and really like the shape of it like that but the Gimbals seemed small to full size gimbals on the bigger controlle's. Are using the TBS Micro TX V2 or the bigger 2W Crossfire Module?

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  3 місяці тому +1

      I'm using the micro tx v2. Same as you I don't like the short travel on the xlite gimbles. I'm switching to a tx16s.

    • @mxracingunlimitedltd7784
      @mxracingunlimitedltd7784 2 місяці тому

      @@FalconRadFPV The TX16S is a nice radio but it seems kind of big, but i havent seen one in person before..
      For comparison, have you ever tried a Tango 2 or a TBS Mambo, or even the RM Boxer? Did you like any of them?
      I think they have 3/4 size gimbals.
      The X-lite has way smaller gimbals than my Frsky Q X7S and even looks smaller than the T2/Mambo's, but i kind of miss the smaller travel of the Tango 2 style gimbal controller

    I usually film with gopro hero 8 4K@30 fps without stabilization and use ReelSteady in post. However, if I don't make really slow turns, the video looks like it's missing fps.
    Can you please share the gopro version and settings you used for the flights in this video?

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  8 місяців тому +3

      If the video looks jittery or like it's skipping frames (when played back at regular speed) then it's probably because of your cameras shutter speed. You need motion blur = ND filters. No matter what fps the camera is at it only records while the shutter is open. At 1/240 sec shutter speed and 30 fps the camera is only recording for an brief instant once every 30th of a second. It makes it look like frames are missing but it's actually that the camera only recorded brief flashes of footage. If you change the shutter speed to double the fps it'll look much better. So at 30fps (which is best I think) you want double for shutter speed so 1/60th sec. At 1/60th instead of say 1/240th the camera is recording four times longer for each 1/30th of a second frame of video. But now the exposure is likely too bright. That's where the ND filter comes in, it allows you to slow down the shutter speed without over exposing the video. Bright sunny day use an ND32 cloudy day an ND 8. Even with the camera on auto for the shutter you'll see a difference. Then use ISO 100 or 200 whichever works best for exposure, 100 iso is preferable.

      its usually the camera processor struggling, it can be the sd card too, or both, you'll notice most panning shots judder a bit even on great cameras. it could also be your computer, strange but a lot of computers and vlc or windows media player struggle with high bit rate images, i've got a few vids (especially 60fps) that look juddery in my video player but once uploaded to youtube they look fine...... double check your vlc is ready for h265 vids, its just a plugin you download and vlc acceses itself... i think, i forget. pps. get gyroflow, its much better than realsteady now, and lets you fine tune how much stabilising and cropping and zooing is going on, my tip is turn smoothing below 0.1, so 0.04 etc etc. it removes the shakes but leaves the stick inputs, also there a button that lets you see the whole image sstretched out and the window its capturing, you can then push the window to get some image back, fov gets bigger.

    • @romaniafromabove
      @romaniafromabove 8 місяців тому

      Thank you,@@TheMadmacs! I'll take a look. However @60fps I don't get any jitter so I don't think it's the video player's fault.

    I guess 3008 1150kv from t motor is fine. How do you thinhk?

      Ya the 3008 1155kv or the F100 1100kv. I'd guess the 3008 for a more efficient setup or the F100 for a little more power and top end. It's a 2810 size stator.

      this was done with a 6s2p battery made from 2800mAh 18650 li-ion cells. So rated for 5600 mAh total at 6s voltage.

    Which firmware do you have on your quads ? BF oder INav?
    Great and truly inspiring video by the way :)

    • @FalconRadFPV
      @FalconRadFPV  8 місяців тому

      It was BF, i think version 4.2 for these flights. I'm on the newer 4.4 version now with my digital builds.

      Do have any experience with INav ?
      I am building my first 7" long range quade and I am considering using INav or Ardupilot instead of BF as I heard those are the go to firmwares when flying long range!

      They are all my frames, I've got several of them. I only fly long range with my own frames. Got annoyed with other 7" frames having bad jello and vibrations so I make my own now. Also many frames for 7" are called long range just because they take 7" props but the design doesn't make sense for long range if it can't even carry 6s2p or gets jello at low throttle.

      It's all about learning line of sight for the location and making sure you don't go behind a ridge or too many trees. Having good antennas keeps the signal strong.

      Ya I always have bear spray, an air horn and at night a super bright flashlight as well. We also carry a bear bell and intentionally make lots of noise when we stop the vehicle and walk around. Although I heard about a grizzly attack where the bear just didn't care it was getting bear sprayed by conservation officers and kept coming at them so they had to shoot it.
