Same! Luke is such a complex character with a tragic backstory and fate. He really did have a point about the gods and how terrible they are and I really do think he had all demigods best interests at heart he just got lost along the way. Kronos had been manipulating him since he was at least 14 years old. Luke wasn't the villain of the story Kronos was.

It's a massive plot hole. Throughout the series Annnabeth struggles to accept that Luke would betray the camp. I feel like putting her in that scene diminishes not only the character work that she undergoes, but the tension on Percabeth, which they are already pushing way too hard.

    • @Edward-W
      @Edward-W 5 місяців тому +69

@@theautotunecat6005 that's not what the term 'plot hole' means at all. A plot hole is something that breaks continuity of the plot itself in a way that doesn't make sense and is practically irreconcilable. Being different from the book doesn't break the plot of the show. Evwrything is still consistent and logical. Nothing has been broken. Stop trying to fit the show into the exact mold of the book. Rick made these canges to improve the story.

I kind of thought the same way, but I am rereading the series right now, I feel like for Percy we needed to know his strong bond to Luke before the betrayal, because after this, he never really considers him redeemable (understandably so). Annabeth on the other hand has a much more complex situation going on, as she believes there is something worth saving throughout the entire story. There will be so much more room to explore her pain, while for Percy, it had to be this early to matter.
Of course, they might change things in future seasons, but that's what I thought.

    Great episode!
Walker's acting was so good. I love that even though Percy figured it out then he still did not fully believe it even as he said it. You could see the shock in his eyes when Luke admitted to it. But it makes sense that Percy figures it out. The kid only has three friends, maybe four if we count Chiron. At this point, he 100% trust Annabeth and Grover. There was only Luke left for the prophecy to come true. Also, my personal opinion was that Annabeth said something to Percy before he went to meet with Luke. Annabeth obviously noticed that Luke reacted with "how do you know?" instead of "who?" when Percy told him that they knew who had stolen the bolt. She knew something was up, which was why she followed Percy and Luke, but she probably also didn't want to fully accept it.
I really hope they do more seasons. We really deserve more after waiting so long for a good adaption.

I bet every author wishes they got an excuse to do a new draft of a 20 year old story now that they’ve improved as a writer, and imo this scene was much better than the books. I'm really glad that they didn't make Luke a full-on villain! He did messed up stuff? Yeah, he tricked Percy and honestly his plan was to send a 12yo to Tartarus lmao he's a mess. But he also doesn't act evil because... he shouldn't. He joined Kronos' side because he believes in it, and he believes the gods are bad and should be taken down. In the books, even after he died, I didn't see him as a hero tbh. Took me years to fully grasp the nuances of his characters bc he acted so villanous before getting turned into Kronos and then showing an empathetic side whenever he took over his own body back. With this Luke here, I not only see why he will be seen as a hero later on, but also why so many demigods joined him over the years. Amazing job by everyone involved, the episode was great! Also it fixed something that bothered me on the books that is I didn't feel that the connection between Luke and Annabeth was that important early on bc Luke didn't seem to consider her when he left. As someone who hadn't even glimpsed any of these books until after watching Season One (I'm reading book one now though, don't you worry!) my favourite parts of the show were:
-All of the Medusa segments (including the scenes with just her head)
    -Waterland and Hephaestus
-Mom and Dad talking at the bar
    -Percy chatting with a Nereid
-Dad intervening with Zeus and then actually speaking to Percy (Freaking finally, about time, Dad!)
    -Grover's consensus song
-Literally every time Annabeth takes off the hat and becomes visible (such a cool effect!)
And the only part I did not like in the entire series were the dream sequences. But I think that's just the voice they used. Supposed to sound creepy (I assume) but instead, to me, Kronos just sounds constipated 😅
Anywhooo, so psyched for Season Two!!! 🎉😍🎉

    Nice season finale.
    Mount Olympus is beautiful.
    Percy finally meets Poseidon.
Lance Derrick plays Zeus, the actor's last performance before dying.
    Lance was a good actor!
    Rest in peace Lance🙏

According to Rebecca Riordan, they deliberately toned down Gabe's cruelty for the show. Him dying like that also has another effect: it leaves that last line of the prophecy unresolved to possibly mean something else in the future.

At 13:15, while watching the actual ep. I actually got mad cause I was sobbing and stuff and then she looks at him like something is wrong and then says “you need to wake up.” Like then it goes dark, and some dude that looks like the grim reaper shows up so I’m thinking Percy died or maybe his mom didn’t actually make it and I’m actually terrified. 😭😭
(for clarification, I haven’t read the books at all or know much about the Greek gods but this show was amazing. I’ll be reading the first book to see how it’s like now.)

That's Kronos. He was also the Headmaster a couple of episodes ago in Percy's dream. The show doesn't adapt the book completely, but it's very close. The basic details are the same, they just rewrote parts of the adventure and the fight scenes. Kronos is in a thousand pieces in Tartarus, so he can only communicate with Percy and Luke through dreams for the time being. In the books, Kronos mainly appears as a voice speaking from the pit of Tartarus, the place that Percy and Grover nearly fell into last week. Percy doesn't realize that Kronos is responsible there until Kronos intervenes to keep Ares from killing him after Percy won their duel. Annabeth had already figured out who Kronos was based on one of Percy's dreams, but she didn't want to believe it as Hades was the much better option.
Next is The Sea of Monsters where Percy, Annabeth, the friendly Cyclops Tyson, and Clarisse travel to the Sea of Monsters to get the Golden Fleece to save the camp and Grover who got caught by Polyphemus the Cyclops (who is ALSO Percy's brother!!!) while searching for Pan. Grover DOES eventually find Pan by the way in the 4th book, however, Pan is Fading. Fading is when a god dies by fading from existence, typically because their domain has been so destroyed as Nature has been in Pan's case. Pan Fades after Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Rachel Elizabeth Dare, Tyson and Nico di Angelo find him, but not before Pan passes on some of his power to Grover.
The main bad guys of the series are Kronos and Luke. This??? This is just the beginning. By the next book, Luke has built an army of monsters and demigods and is working to resurrect Kronos and overthrow Olympus. Chris Rodriguez, who is one of the campers in the show, is one of Luke's forces, although Chris eventually defects back to Camp Half-Blood after Clarisse finds and rescues him from Daedalus' Labyrinth. It all leads up to the final battle for Olympus in The Last Olympian and the fulfilment of the Great Prophecy. By that time, there's 3 children of the Big Three: Percy, Thalia (who is resurrected by the Golden Fleece at the end of The Sea of Monsters) and Nico di Angelo, the Son of Hades. Nico is actually briefly in Episode 6: as Grover and Augustus discuss Pan about 12 and a half minutes into the episode, Nico can be heard calling for Bianca in the background who is his sister.

Can I just say that my favorite part of the tv series was the fact that the actor for Luke looks sooo much like Percy Jackson in the book series grown up! If that was intentional it was brilliant. Luke was probably one of the most important characters to shape the series and books that sprouted from the original series. Always alluded to and when Percy got older he was more understanding of Luke’s feelings and ideals. For true fans Percy when he got older mentioned that now that he was as old as Luke he understood Luke’s disdain towards the gods.
Overall, I loved the series. I thought it was more faithful to the books and even expanded upon it. I can’t wait for the next season!!❤❤❤❤

I was talking to a friend who is a massive book fan while I'm more of a casual reader about how not making Luke a full villain even from the start is good. Sure when you're a kid looking at another child as a villain is whatever but while they are cultivating a new audience a lot of people who watch are adults who already know better, Luke IS just a kid who has been neglected and manipulated so making both Percy and the audience get where he is coming from specially after the way they built the gods this season just makes more sense and makes him more tragic than evil

I really thought Annabeth’s regret was going to come back up in this episode, I’m not upset that it didn’t just confused. I kind of assumed it was either going to be regret about leaving home and she was going to mention it as part of her reasoning for going back with her dad for the school year, or it was going to be about leaving Thalia behind and not staying to fight with her. I do fully expect it to be in the next season though, either as an explanation after the fact of them going back to camp or when they’re in the SoM and talking about Thalia. My one big complaint is that we didn’t get the explanation of backbiter or “your mother is a queen amongst women” but I expect we get backbiter explanation next season and hopefully that line will be put elsewhere

out of curiosity, what was the line from the percy/poseidon scene that didn't get said? I don't have my copy of the book at the moment, I lent it to my sister, and the only line from that scene that i really remember loving is 'the sea does not like to be restrained'. I feel sure that there WERE other cool lines, I just can't remember them right now.

The only thing i would change on this episode is to add Poseidons line about Sally, and the other is for Annabeth to a little bit more hurt/hearbroken about Lukes betrayal.

I didn't mind most of the changes made in this episode but I'm so pissed that they didn't include Ares cursing Riptide after he lost, especially since it would be important in season 3 (if we get one) when Percy tries to fight Atlas.

Is anyone else concerned about the actor's aging? I mean, Rick's biggest complaint was them 'aging up' the actors in the movies, yet, Walker is already 15... so by the time they complete the series, he will be in his 20's... when he's supposed to just be 16.
