Being a cheeky young lad who couldn't afford to learn to drive i wrote to him slightly tongue in cheek and never expecting a reply but I actually did and his staff had arranged for two weeks of intensive lessons with the test a week later. True story... Some years ago, while biking round the Balmoral estate at this time of year with a few mates, we found ourselves being passed by a black Range Rover every hour or two, with a couple of chaps in tweed jackets, check shirts and tartan ties inside. It's the country, so we always waved at them and they waved back, until one of our party, an ex cop, told us that these were the royal protection squad checking out who was on the estate and where. When the next black Range Rover came tooting along the shooting track we were on, it was mid-afternoon and I was lying on my back in the heather beside the track, knackered because I was middle-aged, overweight and unfit. I really couldn't be bothered waving any more, so I just waggled my unclad (as I was wearing shorts) knees at the car in a sort of greeting. As it went past, I noticed the elderly lady driving the car raise two fingers from the steering wheel, without letting go of it of course, to acknowledge my greeting..... a pregnant pause followed and then one of our party, who were leaning on their bikes beside the shooting track said, 'That was the Queen, wasn't it?' and we all agreed that it had indeed been Her Majesty. So, I can say, with complete honesty, that my sole contact with our dear old Queen was the time I loyally waggled my hairy knees at her and she regally raised two fingers to me in reply... without a word of a lie!

King Charles, then Prince Charles, got off the train and came over to chat with people. When he spoke to me, he asked where we were from, where we were going, he apologised profusely for his train holding us up and wished my family and I a wonderful day. Hes more like his Mother her majesty the Queen than the media portray. Calm collect and self contained. He was obviously enjoying the solitude. I hope he was being watched out for by his security detail.

To people wondering if has security
The original post showed before meeting him a patrol unit scouting ahead
And behind the king is another security detail
Not to mention I'm sure there's a hidden grass boi with a long boomstick aiming at them while they were talking

This happened once with the Queen who was on a walk with an aide. Two hikers from another country, America I think, stopped and chatted with her for several minutes. They took photos with her... And never realized it was the Queen of England. After the hikers moved on the Queen remarked that one of their friends in their home country would likely recognize her in the photo. The story was told by the man who accompanied the Queen on her walk.
Sep 9, 2022 - Speaking to Sky News, Griffin revealed that the Queen once played a prank on two American tourists who didn't recognize her.

As I recall the story was even better because the hikers asked the Queen if she'd ever met the Queen, knowing that they were in the right area, and she said "no, but {insert name of Police Officer here} has met her several times"!

@@chiefsilverback Yes, that's how I remember the story as well, the late Queen had a wonderful sense of humour.

and they asked what she was like, he said 'she's a bit cantankerous but has a wonderful sense of humour' !!!! then they got her to take a picture of them with her guard. Imagine saying they'd met a man who knew the Queen and here are some pictures of us with him and his lady friend, and their American friends saying 'But that IS the Queen.'!!!@@chiefsilverback
