  • In today's episode, I show you some of the items that have changed on the cafe racer since 2014 including new gas tank cap, ignition system, voltage regulator and rectifier, anti gravity battery pack, rear sets by cognito moto, and exchaust cut off.
    I also get into my future plans of running a GSXR 600 front forks as well as installing new spoked wheels, wider tires, clip ons, grips, brake reservoir, etc.

      Really? What is the proper rear to front braking ratio on a bike? Most choppers/bobbers I've built have only had one. Rear brakes are for Snowflakes.

      @@thepretentiouspig424 What a stupid thing to say. Not trying to be disrespectful but you only have 2 wheels. Are you really going to use one wheel to brake? Also suspension needs to settle when you are breaking, the rear brake is built for that, and its more comfortable for normal braking!

    Red Kote is the best, I have used it for 30 years. I worked in a radiator shop for many years and we used it on lots of old autos that new fuel tanks weren't available. I have used it on steel, aluminum and fiberglass motorcycle tanks even my dirt track race bike. It was not affected by 108 octane leaded race fuel and Klotz Benol. Great video.

    Bought my CB 550 after watching your build. Cognito Moto has so muchvgreat stuff for the 550's. I would suggest the rear hoop with built in break light. They also make a rear disk break conversion for 550's now, bought one for mine. Good luck man, keep up the good work.

    gsxr forks and r6 forks should be direct bolt on for a 500/550 frame besides the conversion bearings. You can use a harley front dyna glide hub with the correct wheel bearings to fit the forks and then run a spoked wheel. I usually just run a 16" spoked hog wheel in the rear, maybe run some nice excel rims on them. Im fishing a 750 chopper project and 550 cafe right now, text me if you come out to Waterford.
    by the way I really enjoy that toggle combo for the ignition.

  • @The-vi3iu
    @The-vi3iu 5 років тому

    Whats up Ish! Bikes looking super mean! Just wanted to say two things- firstly, Ive seen all your builds from the beginning of when you posted them years ago, but I dont remember you saying that your tank is ACTUALLY NOT FROM A CB550. As Im sure you know, Its from the K model of the CB750- basically any year from 69-76! If guys are going for that fuller and larger tank look- the lower profile cb550 tanks that are from all the K versions of the cb500/550s are not going to be the same. Theyre similar but more slimline. But The F tank from CB550F 75/76 and all CB550 tanks from 77-78 are bigger, larger, more "stout" looking and race inspired. Secondly, the GSXR front is basically done to death, but for good reason! Its a huge upgrade to the entire ride of the bike. My favor to you is keep the strategy of this build the same- when approaching the front end. So far youve kept everything budget conscious from the beginning- basically giving alot of us garage guys- a ton of amazing information, advice and most importantly inspo to do it at home on a dime. That being said the easy way to get that front spoked wheel is to do the full Cognito treatment, but its really expensive, so my ask is that you look at the GSXR front end with the harley dyna front wheel solution. This comes with some inherent issues- like drilling out the correct pattern on the gsxr or huyabusa rotors and some spacing issues But for 95% of guys the solution is much more cost effective and makes it doable. Thanks again and keep up the amazing work !

    • @CZeroMedia
      @CZeroMedia  5 років тому

      thanks a lot for the reply my man. and yeah, i have realized that my tank is not the original 550 throughout the years :D As for the gsxr, yeah. its def a common direction people take on these bikes but like you said, a much-needed upgrade. cognito for sure would be the easiest solution but at the same time, i need to keep the cost down. i will look into the harley dyna front wheel solution a bit more. i have certainly heard of it but havent researched much into it just yet

      @@CZeroMedia lol, a better front-end is important but for me wouldn't replace a rear brake!

    why do people want such a thin and uncomfortable looking seat?
    i dont believe cafe racers are suppose to be inherently uncomfortable to ride. why not just take the seat off entirely then?

      CZeroMedia also those strips are barely visible and your tail is angled up, people behind you might not even be able to see it. I have faith you can design a better option

    I built a cb550 cafe in the early 90's but ran a Kerker pipe and it wasnt much if any quieter than your open header. Besides having to make my rear set the main difference between my build and this was I used a Ducati style fairing I got from a swap meet in Pamona. I did the build after hitting a patch of sandy gravel and dumping it one night leaning into a corner. Ride it for 5 more years before I sold it when I started a family.
