Instead of a steering damper, I would suggest that you buy the conversion triple clamps. They return the forks to the proper offset so your rake and trail are back to stock. A steering damper on this set up is like putting a band-aid on a gaping flesh wound. Love your vids, and your enthusiasm despite your misfortune is awesome. Glad you're doing well and hope to see you riding again.

I followed this build and was concerned when I saw that you mounted the forks raised through the triple clamps (looks like an inch, maybe a little more). CB's have relatively lazy steering geometry from the factory, but it's easy to go overboard and end up with dangerous rake and trail geometry when you start swapping front end parts. With a smaller diameter front wheel and shorter forks you're decreasing rake and trail substantially. Raising the forks in the triples decreases the geometry even more. This is not something you should be guessing at, and as you discovered there can be real-world consequences when you get it wrong. Glad you walked away, it looks like you went down hard. My advice would be to top out those forks in the triples and test ride it (slowly) to check for head shake. If that doesn't fix it, you can use 1" shorter rear shocks (if you have the clearance) or order up an offset upper triple clamp from Cognito Moto to move the forks down and increase rake and trail. Cognito sells triple clamp sets that have a 30mm offset (used for a 17" front wheel) and a 50mm offset (used for a 19" front wheel). With the 18" front wheel you should be using the 50mm offset triple clamps to keep the steering geometry safe. Hope this helps. Keep wrenchin' brother.

So glad to see your ok. Any thought about the lack of trail in your front end. I’m doing the same conversion and opted to keep the GSXR triple tree because it adds trail. Some people say it it’s not as responsive but a ton more stable. And I kept the 19” front so that helps as well. I would love to hear what your thoughts are on how to correct the original issue. I know you said it’s not a mechanical failure but an operator one. I don’t know if I would agree to the point if not blaming the front end. Yeah we all should be mindful and stop immediately if we notice something. But the tank slap happened because of so thing mechanical.
All in all, glad to see your back up and kicking and still working on the bike. Your build has been a huge inspiration to me and my build. Keep your chin up (no pun intended).

My cb550f just wont run right but has become very custom. No drops but previous owner did at some point. The alternator cover is a pricey replacement. I put small crash bars that protect the alternator and timing plates. Im curious what size jets, needle clip settings and a/F MIXTURE SCREW your settings are at. I had horrible results removing the air box. Wish i had the funds to do some of the stuff you have on your CB550F

    Did your wheel have balanced
I don't understand why such shake in the front ?
There are dots on the tire side wall . They should line up with the Air Valve. The dot indicates the lightest part of the tire during manufacturing.
By doing that you get the wheel and tire close but with wire spokes ,they can go out of wack.
It's why I like a cast wheel over a wire wheel. To fragile.
I stripped and painted a tank like that years ago on a 450 cafe ,I built called War Horse. I put a latex rubber gloves on put my hand in red paint and pressed it on the front of the tank side" like and American Plains Indian , war Horse " it looked great when I finish It started to brown up slightly.....guess you have to paint it to keep the rust away!
Did look cool ! Sold it when I lived in New England ,before I moved to Florida.

1:10 YZ205F is the motocross bike and not ideal for trail riding really.
You might want to consider to swap it for the enduro/trail/cross-country YZ250FX (with an X). They look the same but they polar opposites in terms of character.
I can't remember exactly the specs from the top of my head (and it differs by model year), but the general difference is the motocross has hard suspension, shorter wheelbase, more aggressive rake, 4 or 5 speed close ratio gearbox, no electric start, no stator, light flywheel and motor tuned for power in the high rev range.
The enduro has soft suspension, longer wheelbase and less aggressive rake, 6 speed wide ratio gearbox, heavy flywheel, electric start, a stator (or provision for fitment of one) and engine tuned for low end torque.
Did the previous owner try go trail riding with it? Maybe that's why it only has 10hours lols.
