    That TE90-QM is absolutely fantastic BUT Harley Benton have since completely ruined the aesthetics by changing the f-holes - these one look very elegant and classical, the new ones look cheap and almost " toy like " - seriously put me off ordering one ............... NOTE : I noticed Harley Benton have reverted back to this design so I ordered one and it is a fantastic guitar !

      Hi, the TE90 that I see in this video has got a very dark fretboard....what wood it was? The One Thomann is selling right now is amaranth, that is not as dark at all, instead is reddish (horrible).
      Can you give me this info?
      And also, you were talking about the f holes...what shape are they selling right now? To me they seem all the same so I ask to you. Thanks

    I have had the TE-52 Vintage for about two years and I love it. I have "upgraded" it with a set of compensated brass saddles, but only because I had them; not because it was strictly necessary. You simply cannot beat Harley Benton for the quality at anywhere near that price.

      Whats the difference to the te-62?

    • @PhillipBlanton
      @PhillipBlanton Рік тому

      @@yodigak8810 Different neck profile, different pickups and a painted vs natural wood body... basically. I tried to post some links to articles online explaining the differences, but UA-cam doesn't like that. Google "TE-62 vs. TE-52" and you'll see the same articles.
      For what it's worth, the TE-62DB is the same as the TE-62CC, except it's double-bound and has Indian laurel fretboard over a maple neck, while the CC has no binding and an all maple neck. They also come in slightly different colors too, while my TE-52 is natural wood with aged lacquer. I like my TE-52 a lot, but the TE-62 is newer and if I was buying today, I might get the TE-62DB in red. The-62 is only available in painted colors and I really like the natural wood on my TE-52. It's a tough call, but since I already have the TE-52, and I like the slim C profile of the TE-52's neck, I'll keep it and be happy.

      @@yodigak8810 No. They are great. I was surprised. I expected some fret sprout and rough frets, buit they are very well done. Sort of a medium jumbo, which is a stupid phrase, but it is what it is.

      I bought a couple of TE-62's for modding, the TE-52 vintage wasn't available then or I would have most definitely bought one, I don't think I would change much if I buy one, maybe the nut and some compensated brass saddles and a new switch would be the only changes I would make, I might try the old Wilkinson pickups from the TE-62 in it just to see which I prefer, the second TE-62 I bought had Roswell pickups and so I probably would try those also.

    I red a little about the Thommann brand Harley Benton story and I think why they can make them so cheap and nice but it's up to you to find out. In my opinion the most important thing in a cheap guitar is the playability and the right setup. All the rest you make it with pedals and amps.

    As a brand-new sub, I love your style of delivery: very human and on top of all the aspects that interest me most, without any self-serving blah-blah getting in the way. Much appreciate this comparison, since I‘m shopping around for a HB Tele (or maybe one of those nifty FireFly 338s in Spalted Maple, or maybe a HB RB). Was wondering whether the extra bucks would get me more bang, but this video made it clear to me that I‘m more into the traditional twang of the cheaper model. Looks and finish are second to sound, and I really find the higher model a bit boring in that department. If I wasn‘t getting the 52, I‘d maybe rather get a HB RB or something else instead of the higher-priced HB Tele. It just doesn‘t grab me. So thanks for the demo!

    I have kind of the same TE-52 (4 years earlier for 129 EUR) and the frets were not good, they stuck out but the leveling was ok. The switch was bad and Thomann send me a better one (on my demand, they wanted to repair it themselves). I've changed the action to much lower which changed the sound and playability considerably. Changed out the pickups as well with cheap Chinese ones.
    I have the TE-90FLT as well (payed 165 EUR for it) and it's really great both in playability and sound! Haven't changed anything on it not even the setup.
    The TE-90QM is on my short list.
    BTW I own Gibsons, Fenders and Warmoths as well.

    I own 2 Harley Benton's and I've been extremely happy with the guitars and they are frequently what I play more than some of my other guitars. What amazes more than anything is how much guitar you get for $200 compared to when I started to learn guitar in the mid 80's. Back then I remember needing to spend about $400 to get a decent guitar. Taking inflation into account, $400 in the mid 80's is about $1,000 today for a guitar that's just as good as a $200 HB is today.

    The HB TE30 is the best one for my money, barely £100 for a very nice neck and nicely finished body. I updated mine with Wilkinson parts although, aside of the machine heads that do need replacing, actually the original pups and bridge etc were perfectly usable (though the replacement Wilkinson bridge pup is apparently a very good copy of an original 'Broadcaster' pup). I would say that my TE30 is probably the nicest tele I've ever owned, irrespective of cost.

    I would go for the TE-52 or TE-90QM. Since I already got a Les Paul Standard, with similar warm tones as the TE-90QM, I would pick the TE-52 which has a more classic Telecaster sound. Never played one of them, but the reviews on UA-cam are quite fair. It's not a guitar for gigs or studio recording, but it's also not that bad as some might think. I already had a Harley Benton (Cherry like the Gibson ES-335) and sounded very fine... thanks for the review! Cheers.

    I bought the black paisley TE from HB a couple of years ago and had a couple of problems with it...first is that the neck has the "heel" right behind the headstock that I find pretty uncomfortable, it's right where your thumb would go when playing cowboy chords and no Fender guitar has a heel like that. The other thing was that I thought the Roswell pickups were shrill and glassy sounding. Swapped the neck for a Fender neck, swapped the pickups for 51 Nocaster pickups and now it's an okay guitar, if a little on the heavy side.

    Great review of these guitars. Which in your opinion would be the most versatile for most styles of music?

    I don't need a T style guitar. I have 1 already. Mine is a Michael Kelly Telecaster. And I Love it. But cool video.

    I went on a Telecaster hunt, and got a limited Telecaster FMT HH. I was originally looking for a standard hard core Telecaster, and found this one a little on the exotic side. Hmmm.... Three Telecasters for under six hunnerd.... H/B, ....Har ley Ben...ton......

    What's the purple soloist/strat type guitar (quilted maple top with maple neck, humbuckers) right behind you? Looks interesting, haven't found that color before.

    Hey Ryan! Great review, Very helpful.
    I ended up with 2 of them! Don't worry, I bought them by clicking on your links!
    Just curious, What amp or what system are you running through in this video? The tones you're getting are killer and I'm sure it's not just the guitar but whatever you're running through... thanks in advance for any info.

    U my friend are killing it on your content. This is exactly the kind of stuff I wanna watch. Did u happen to find out if harley benton (thomann) gonna get a better US distributor?? Cuz waiting a month or more for a guitar is absurd

  • @Daniel-ll3qp

    Tbh, I actually prefer the TE-20 to the TE-52. The neck on mine is to die for. If you know how to set up a guitar and put at least 10 gauge strings on them, they’re great guitars.

    • @anders6435
      @anders6435 5 років тому

      What is the difference with the neck between them? Was thinking about buying one and learn how to play, thing is, i have fairly small hands and think it may be a problem!

  • @Alex-dr6or
    @Alex-dr6or 5 років тому

    I own the te52 and honestly it's a pretty decent instrument.
    The tuners aren't the best but can be replaced, as well as the pickups (not bad but not at CV level in my opinion).
    With $200 worth of parts it becomes gigable

    • @squierjoshyt
      @squierjoshyt 5 років тому +1

      $200? For what tuners and pickups? The CV pickups are cheap tonerider knockoffs.

  • @MrStradia

    The TE-90FLT! It has a great sound with a lot of character to it.
    I too, am not a fan of the reverse headstock.

    • @b4liquez
      @b4liquez 6 місяців тому

      I have it in lefty. Which means that it is easy to find good brand locking tuners for it, because double left equals as regular 6L.

    Well I hope you don't have to return one. They just sent me 2 of the exact same guitar. I informed them right away and now there telling me I have to take it to the Customs office and show them the receipt and get authorization basically to ship it back and I have to pay for the return shipping fee. I paid 66 bucks for 2 day shipping and it took 5 days. This is my 3rd time ordering from them, needless to say never again. Also there website says you have 30 days to return an item but they told me I have 24 days.

    That TE-52 is honestly the first Harley Benton i think sounds sub par. Doesn't sound any good to my ears. usually Harley Bentons sound okay to good, and their P90 guitars sound excellent. But i dont like the sound of that first tele.
