I always keep my cell phone handy to take lots of pictures as I disassemble things as for the Teflon tape I never use it as most plumbing fittings will start leaking with age compared to pipe dope I've found over the years. All the old millwrights I worked with only used pipe dope and lots of it and never remember a fitting leaking later but you have to keep it back behind the first set of threads.
Nice you're able to work on your Kinetico. I saw in some other Kinetico videos where they show you to check the suction of the Brine-Rinse cycle by making sure the brine line is sucking or providing vacuum to draw in the brine from the salt tank. If you're not getting good vacuum draw, then you've got a problem with the 4th layer where the valves and pistons may be worn or not sealing. One problem when you have worn seals, is that finding replacement seals is very difficult in the US due to only having 'authorized' Kinetico service people work on these, which is akin to owning a Tesla and you have it serviced by Tesla instead of going to buy parts at your FLAPS and doing the service yourself.
Glad you were able to resolve the Teflon tape issue. Have you noticed, when your unit is not in the regeneration mode is there water pressure on the line that goes to the brine tank? My brine tank was overflowing. I found my float had failed. I repaired the float valve in the brine tank but it doesn't seem like there should always be water flowing into the brine tank, except during the suction phase.

They are not cheap, that's for sure.
