  • I applied to college as a junior and was pretty much rejected from every college. So what did I do differently? How did I change my strategy to get into Stanford and the Ivy Leagues? Here're my answers, packaged as a rebuttal to the /applyingtocollege Reddit thread, College UA-camr.

    Great mindset. Your idea that "find more like-minded people in college" definitely resonates with me and try not to be one of the "shallow" college UA-camrs is indeed an essential value for us to have.

      I think I was looking at some grad school videos regarding OT. Then, an AnxiousJoe college reaction video popped up on the top of the UA-cam suggested list. So, I viewed like 2 - 3 more reaction videos until I clicked your result reaction video. Guess I was just in the right place at the right time in the internet. Once I watched your videos, I realised the information you shared are very useful for anyone especially for the high school students. I am really impressed that you are currently taking on an internship even before your freshman year start. Well, after I graduated from Oregon State, I went down to L.A. to work & currently I live in Hong Kong. Have a great weekend!! 😀

    wow your videos never cease to amaze me! I do have some questions tho: so you know how everyone has their drive/motivation that encourages them to get into a good school? Some of it can be maybe it's for a job, or they really like the campus and stuff. So what is your motivation that drives you to go to such a prestigious school- what is it that makes you want to go to Stanford and not the other schools. And lastly, what kind of job are you planning to get? (after college and grad school)?
    Thanks!

      Anthony Zuo 1) the people!!! I talked about this briefly in I applied to college twice video but my HS didn’t have the most motivated bunch of students and I wanted to be surrounded by people who would inspire me. I have no idea what I want to do after college but I know it won’t be one job! I’ll probably be building side hustles, turning them into main hustles, and just being dynamic with my career!

    Though you succeeded, your perspective on all of this is still quite limited. Once you get to Stanford and meet a cross-section of 1st years, you will see what an actual "spike" is and how Stanford works to meet its diversity goals (geographic, economic, ethnic, etc.) Making your application stand out and showing determination and "intellectual vitality" is different from a true "spike".

    • @irisfu6929
      @irisfu6929  4 роки тому +2

      I would argue that spikes come in diff forms, from “hard” categories like geography, ethnicity, etc. to “soft” categories like interests. I would say that I had no hard spikes but a soft spike
