    I think more than anything it is just came down to luck. These schools are super competitive and most of the time it might just come down to how the admissions officer was doing that dag

      yeah for sure. i do also think that diff people will find diff colleges' prompts more enticing. the stanford ones were a joy to write, whereas the harvard one i was grasping for something that felt like me and fit within the prompt

    To be honest, as someone who is currently doing applications, it is more important to find a suitable school FOR YOU. Sure, Ivy Leagues and other prestigious schools are great, but just find what's best! It's about "how" you do college/uni anyways. Thanks for this lovely video sharing how the essays are all about you.
    P/S: luck does play a big role, and sometimes your vibe just doesn't suit what the school is looking for.

    Yeah honestly I also think Harvard doesn’t rly want the most well-rounded students bc I have a friend that just got in and she only had like 2 or 3 ECs, but then again - she had amazing grades & a couple awards :))

    This was genuinely a hilarious video. Thank you for making me smile today. Also, the reason you got into Stanford and not Harvard is because Stanford has way more fun people. You definitely seem like a quirky and outgoing person. You're likely happier at Stanford anyway. The dog testicles proves that.

    Although top schools such as Harvard, Yale, and Stanford are of similar caliber in terms of prestige and recognition, each institution looks for applicants who fit its academic, student/community life, and activity mold. So as an applicant you have to ask yourself, would I truly be happy in this college? Would I fit? Because admissions officers will be keeping these questions in mind while they review your application. How do you know you fit, you may ask? Visit colleges, attend information sessions, and watch informative UA-cam videos such as this one to get an idea of what a specific college’s ideal potential student is. I’m currently a rising senior myself, and over my high school years I’ve battled between choosing Columbia University or Yale University as my first choice of college. But I did a lot of research for both these schools and could see myself more satisfied and fulfilled as a Yalie rather than a student at Columbia. But ultimately, to show your character, it all comes down to the supplements and essays. While extracurriculars, certain courses, awards, and recognitions do convey your passions and spikes, nothing portrays your qualities and characteristics more than your writing materials. If all the other parts of your application is strong, and if it fits the mold of, say, Stanford or Harvard, then it really boils down to the writing portion. Good luck to my fellow seniors, and good luck to the juniors! Enjoy high school, explore your passions, and don’t stop the grind!

    Hi! Thanks for the vid! I'm currently writing my essays but I'm struggling to come up with a quirky idea that Stanford looks for. Do you have any advice on that and how I can come up with such?

    • @irisfu6929
      @irisfu6929  4 роки тому +6

      don't force a quirky idea! i think the intellectual vitality essay is the best place to be quirky. think about your intellectual curiosity in everyday ways. for example, if you like a certain subject area, how has that unfolded in your life? for me, economics unfolded when I observed that dogs in taiwan were less likely to be neutered than dogs in the US. i then based my essay off of that encounter, with the econ mingled in. so as long as you think daily life, and not some abstract topic, your essay will be unique!

      Anthony Zuo for our school, we have a student council member for every advisor class. So I was just a council member. I started a video pal program connecting teens from diff end countries to learn about one another’s cultures.

    hey! i was wondering what your view is of restrictive early action? i wanted to showcase that stanford is my first choice, but i know the early applicant pool is much more competitive, so i fear that it’s harder to get in and that i’m more likely to be rejected. do you think regular decision would be a better idea? only problem is that during the regular pool more people from my area apply so there are a lot of comparisons that i don’t want (i have different circumstances tho from going to 3 different high schools which def made high school/ecs a lot harder). BUT then there’s a larger amount of “unqualified” applicants in the regular pool, which i feel wouldn’t have a negative impact on how they view my application as REA would. idk i’ve thought a lottt ab it so im not sure if im j beginning to get paranoid right before college apps season (i’m a rising senior)

    • @irisfu6929

      Apply at the round that you feel like you’re most ready in!! If you get rejected in one round, you probs would’ve gotten rejected in the other round too. Early might give u a slight boost but like u said it could be very minimal (don’t think it’d hurt tho). ED schools definitely give a boost to early applicants. Hope this helps!
