  • Japan is one of the best countries in the world for motorcycle touring - beautiful countrysides, excellent road conditions and awesome bikes! So when I moved to Japan, I made it a goal of mine to learn how to ride a motorcycle. After completing Japanese driving school and getting my license, I have been renting various bikes in order to help me decide which one I'd like to buy. So buckle up (oh wait, there are no seatbelts) for this vlog as we can explore the countryside of Chiba prefecture and ride through the bustling streets of Tokyo at Night. Japan just might be the best place to ride!

    Chiba is really underrated! so close to Tokyo but much less traffic and much more nature! Southern Chiba is great for sea food as well!

    Talk about a video to poke at nostalgia. Just came back from Japan and did a 5 day MC tour of Japan. Rode around Izu peninsula, Kawaguchiko, Saitama, Nikko and back to Tokyo. Roada in Japans countryside are amazing. I liked having well kept mirrors in the blind corners. It amazes me how they keep them all well maintained.
    I also did a 1 day ride north of Kyoto.
    So much fun and cant wait to go back and do some more.

      Your tour sounds amazing. The countryside roads here are very nice to ride and most of the roads are completely empty (except for bikers)

    Help needed:
    I recently had been in Japan, and I really want to go back and explore it on a motorbike. I would like to ask you how to get a motorcycle in japan for long term 3 -5 months without getting broke from paying a rental company. I would love to have a content like that, or any help from the commentators here. Thank you in advance.

    Hey man, nice ride! Glad this video just popped up in my timeline.
    I used to ride bikes back in my home country, can't wait to get my license here in Japan.
    A question if you don't mind: I have a Japanese car license but no motorbike license.
    Any tips on where to get the motorbike license? I know that you can go directly to the menkyo center and although I know how to ride, I feel like I need lessons to pass the exam. My Japanese is also survival level so I'm not sure if I can get away with the normal Japanese driving schools.

      You’ll likely need to take the exam regardless to get the bike license. Some people opt to just take the test and skip the lessons although I’ve heard they’re stricter at passing people who try to do that (Japanese specific rules etc) If you have a car license you can get discounts on the bike course. I can’t remember exactly but it’s about 15 lessons and then a test and that’s the same anywhere. The exam is honestly kinda pointless in my opinion (going over balancing beams and stuff) and no actual riding on the roads (it’s all done in the driving center) but can be done at any driving center. If you have some basic Japanese you can probably get away with just trying to do the test alone without the course

      @@Retro_Japan Thanks for the answer!
      I've seen that some schools are designated schools, and you can do the final test on them, instead of going to the driving center. Even though it's more money / time, I'd rather try that instead of retrying in case of failure, my only problem is lack of Japanese...
      While googling I've found about Koyama Driving School, seems like they have English support, I might look more into that.
      Thanks man, ride safe!

    where did you rent the bike? I want to also do that but the places I check were so expensive!

      Rented it near Chiba city. 11,000 yen for 24 hours so not too bad!

      @@gameblamerfan no deposit needed for rental. Just the rental fee + a couple thousand yen for insurance

    You're living the dream bro. I would love to live and work in Japan. I'm currently a student preparing for my A+, Network+, AWS and Linux certs right now. I'm 33 transitioning to tech with no degree or experience. You think its possible for me to get a decent data center job in Tokyo once I get my certs?

    • @Retro_Japan
      @Retro_Japan  6 днів тому +1

      It might be difficult without a degree (unless you have a degree in another subject) since that is usually a requirement of Japanese immigration for a work visa but I think there may be some exceptions to that which might be worth looking into

    me and a mate are thinking of doing a 5 day trip from Tokyo to Nagasaki do dealerships like this so one way drop off? or do you know any bike rental place that does this?

    • @Retro_Japan
      @Retro_Japan  11 днів тому

      Normally you have to return them to the same shop but if you can find a chain shop that exists in both cities they may allow you to drop it off from shop to the other likely for an extra fee as those shops tend to send their bikes between themselves for customer requests anyways at a fee

      @@Retro_Japan sadly I didn't find any, so we changed the plan now going to Fuji, Toyama then Fukushima and back to Tokyo obviously stopping at places on the way.

    Got my driving license at a driving school in Japan and I absolutely wouldn't want to ride a motorbike here given how some people drive. I got hit by a car that was turning right a couple of weeks ago while I was crossing the road at a pedastrian green light! I'll take the relative safety of the four walls of a car 🤣
    I like Sushiro's salmon and cheese, too 😉

    • @Retro_Japan

      Yeah there definitely are some of those drivers out there for sure. I do feel much safer riding in Japan though compared with England 👀

      Weird, I found the cagers more courteous in Japan, or maybe it was just drivers out in the hills. Almost all cars I came across on my MC tour last month would pull over so I could safely over take. Although I didn't do much city driving other than the highways in and out of Tokyo.
