Thank you so much. All the flesh came off the skinny internal roots and I thought my orchid was a goner before watching this video. I put her in a water culture and hoping for the best
@@OrchidsforDummies I’m so confused I thought you had to only put a very small amount of water, only a couple of root just tips touching the water, I love your attitude and sweet humor
I love you 😂 you remind me of Bruce from Family Guy and I am saying that as a total compliment because he's my favorite character. Thank you so much for the education on this method. You are so smart and make learning so fun. Subscribed! So glad I found your channel.
How is my baby? Thank you so much! I couldn’t have made it this far without PhalPals like you. Love you so much PhalPal Diana. My phal keikis Diana and what’s your moms name?
I potted Durrel in moss for a bit the roots were doing okay and are fine but he was looking like a Phalaenopsis I had that would not grow in WC just had to go to moss. My Phalaenopsis mom of your Keiki is Nanny, because my mom’s name was Nancy. Although she would have named it Ophelia 🤣
I have two orchids that will become hydroponic orchids but until then, they're developing roots. Mine had some severe stem rot so all the roots were cut off. They both have a good bit of small roots and they're in damp sphagnum with a 20min watering every morning. The older leaves are horribly wrinkled, new leaves are forming slowly. Can I start them out in water right away? We have well water and it is like softened water, straight from lake Michigan. Do you have any suggestions?
PhalPal MysticStarLite thanks for asking. Sorry about your orchid, stem rot is the worst of all if you ask me. I believe you have done the most to her already so I’d personally put her in bark that’s been soaked over a few days with a layer of sphagnum moss on top. I’d water every two days and put her in a bright window . The key factor is choosing one setup and letting her acclimate. Meaning give her time to try to save herself without you bothering her so much. Phalaenopsis can do for themselves, that’s why people say they are the easiest and hardest. One experiment at a time PhalPal. It needs 90 days to even show you if it’s happy or not. I would continue to foliar feed until you have new roots. Please make sure to subscribe and like this video. Happy Growing from your PhalPal Durrell ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏿🇺🇸
@@OrchidsforDummies Thank you so much!!! I added some lava rock and pumice because the high end bark I have for them is too harsh and was causing serious rot. I've got a cool mist humidifier on them on a low setting. They're under artificial light as we only have North and South windows, and they go to bed every night about 10pm. They're close to a desktop pc with six fans always going and a cold air return close by. Poor things suffered from novice orchid care. I get my medium from repotme.com
Okay okay well sounds like a good comfortable place to have it. Keep me updated. I get my supplies off amazon from the cheapest seller and it’s never repotme.com but I did get the 3 inch pots from them and I hate them already but couldn’t find 3 inch pots anywhere else. What size pot do you have your baby in?
@@OrchidsforDummies I have them in leftover containers as both orchids come out of the medium each day to have a soak in the water. I've been doing this with them ever since the roots were just numbs. Now they are about 2 inches long! YAY!!!!! I have a couple clear pots I got from repotme.com but the orchids are so top heavy that the containers always fall over and the moss turns bad. I invested in a kick starter called terraplanter that is a hydroponic planter that they have used for phals. I should get it in October but if anything happens that it falls through, these two need some serious help.
So I’m the same I don’t like to water my orchids 🤦♀️ so you don’t do 2 days water 5 days drying ? You leave in water 24/7 up to the crown but not touching, right? Also when the roots go mushy leave it? Don’t all the roots go mushy?
I see you have the vase almost full of water!! I just started the water culture and all the videos I watch before said to just have the roots tip touching the water level, so I am doing that but I noticed the roots where there’s no water are a silver gray color and they seemed dry😕…. Does this means I should be filling the vase just like you are doing than? Help!!!!!
Thank you for your time. Honestly each orchid is different so trying a different method like mine works for orchids you not having success with. Although the entire root isn’t green; it’s fine. When you see mold that means too much water. When you see dehydration in the leaves, you need more water. Have a Happy Growing from your PhalPal Durrell ♥️♥️🙏🏿

**Thanks for the video** How do I get my orchid in water when I can’t twist my roots to put orchid in a glass so the crown will not be in water What to do? See you on Facebook. Enjoyed your chat.
Congratulations! Give it a couple of weeks to adjust and when you change the water pull of any coating of dead roots that will come off. No cutting unless absolutely necessary. Keep me updated and Happy Growing from your PhalPal Durrell ❤️
Beutiful and they love you! If you can put some osmocote perls can help them in the water, kind of 5 or 6 perls, is just a suggestion 😉👌, and congratulations you have a lot and Beutiful!
Hey PhalPal Evelyn, I will soon make a video but the short answer is not to leave it in water with fertilizer. Keep in clean water and sit in fertilized water for 20 mins then rinse and put back. Hope that helps. Happy Growing from your PhalPal Durrell ❤️❤️🙏🏿🇺🇸
Hello from London. Great video my friend. I have 13 phalenopsis. Orchids are amazing plant 🙂. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful week. Sub and like from me 🙂👍
Thanks for your time PhalPal Le, sorry for late response. If the root is mushy, pull the mushy part off and leave the string. If the root is fuzzy but not busy, it's just time to change the water. If you need any more advice, let me know. Have a Happy Growing
I don’t know but I love your energy you are the orchid king okay !
There's not enough orchid info for growing in water out there, thanks for this!

I think you’re supposed to let your orchids dry out for a while but I don’t know for how long?

When do you pot your orchid after it’s time in clean water?
So even if they are mushy but water is not fuzzy, I should leave it and not cut them?
