I think your very soothing voice also helps keep your plants happy 😊 I remember growing up I’m usually awakened with my mother talking very early in the morning just outside my bedroom window where her orchids were. After I’ve come to my senses I will realize that she’s just talking to her orchids 😭🤣🤣🤣 she’s always said we should talk to our plants, they repay us back with their beautiful blooms 💐😍💗
What an awesome comment...thank you for sharing that! And that''s why I'm known as Orchid Whisperer...I do talk to them. A friend who grew orchids for a long time with a lot of success told me to. It's so cool that you remember your mom talking to them. It's priceless! :) And she's right! (Mom always is...lol!)
I am so fascinated by the success of this growing method. I would like to give it a try again, sometime... failed miserably a few years ago. Thank you for this guide 👍🏼
It's really interesting to grow them in water culture. If you decide to try it again sometime, you may consider just one or 2 orchids...and orchids your can replace if you need to. Some orchids like WC, some don't. When it works, it's awesome, and when it doesn't, you can always convert them back to media. :)
Water culture is definitely a challenging method to get started with. But like you say, it's interesting to see different set ups and how others grow orchids! Thanks for watching and happy growing! :)
Hi there, I just found your channel today and your talent with orchids is mind-blowing! I mean...Orchids hate wet feet, and here you are making them thrive with wet feet! I will now binge your videos and absorb as much of your wisdom as possible. I have only *just* discovered you, but I wonder- do you do mounted orchids? I dearly want to create beautiful displays of orchids and other air plants on driftwood and cork and I'd love to learn the best practices for it. I'm very good at many garden and houseplants, but I've only recently grown bold enough to attempt orchids, and they're my favorite flower!
Hi and welcome to my channel! I've grown orchids for 20 years, mainly in bark and moss. I use water culture now as mainly a short term growing method, it is hard to care for them long term in water culture and our winters here are quite cold. I've never grown orchids on mounts, even though I think they're beautiful! They do require more care that way...they have to be watered and fertilized often to thrive. Happy growing and I wish you lots of success!
I just came across your videos and it didn't take me long to subscribeto your channel. Thanks for sharing your ideas. You are in love with your orchids. I wonder if you see orchids in your dreams 😆
I have a video about an orchid I just bought and placed in water culture...here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/eKljeXY6rdE/v-deo.html Happy growing!:) Amy
Hello, thank You for sharing Your experience and beautiful orchid room w/ us! May I ask if You have ever tried Miracle gro 30-10-10 for orchids and is this recipe is for vandas also? Greetings! Blessings to You and Yours too!
Do you add the fertilizer mix to the existing water already in the jar and set for 6 days? I just went off your old post of only the 1tsp better gro to 1gal of water for 20 minutes… should I let these sit for 6 days this time and try this mixture next time?
Most of HD and Lowe’s or grocery store orchids are grown in bark charcoal mix have you ever did semi water culture using some of potting medium or sphagnum moss?
Thank you for your helpful videos. I’ve been able to apply your orchid wisdom to my small beginner collection (started this year spurred by quarantine) with 3 phals, 2 mini phals, 4 den-phals and 1 dendrobium nobile-type.. all in different media from semi-hydro to bark/NZ sphagnum moss to all NZ sphagnum moss - I’m getting better at reading the roots and understanding what media they like and dont like, thanks to your videos. I was wondering: for the phal you had in the water culture and the additional plate and cup for the aerial roots, if these aerial roots are sitting in fertilizer in the plate and cup, why do you have these roots outside of the vase- couldn’t you wrap them in the vase so that the tips are touching the fertilizer water in the vase? (Thanks in advance as I would love to better understand your decision-making process in your setups).
Hi! Good question! These roots won't fit into the vase without them breaking...they're not pliable. Or I would have...it would be easier! lol Sometimes I have been able to do that, tho. Happy growing!
Hi dear, I just started my orchid in water culture. Since started I did 1 day in water than next day dry. I will start 2-2 days. Qs is can I use banana peel water? I have so many vdos in youtube....
So you don’t put them in plain RO water anymore , just let orchids be in fertilized water for 6 days and 1 day let them dry . Thanks for all your videos , I have learnt a lot from you
If my orchid roots are healing from a mold out break…when should I put my orchid back in water culture ? How long should I leave the cinnamon on the roots? I dusted the roots with cinnamon to help it heal
I dont advise putting cinnamon on roots. It's great to use on leaves if they're damaged, but not on roots. If you're having mold issues, I recommend you pot this orchid in traditional medium. I have a repotting playlist on my channel that will help you. Happy growing! 😇
Hello Amy, I've been trying water culture for two phals. I've noticed that when I leave the phals in water too long, they start to grow white fuzz on the roots and the bottom part of the stem looks dark/rotting. Are these phals sick? Thank you!
Hi! It sounds like they need more dry days. If they dont look happy, you could also just repot them in bark or moss. We still have winter ahead of us, and that's a bad time to have unhappy Phals in WC. 😇🌺
Hi, my phal and its leaves are soggy, wrnkly and looked sad. I under water it because I am afraid that it will die due to root rot. I came across your videos and now I put my orchid into the water culture. My question is. How much water should I put. ? Is it better to do a full water culture for a dehydrated orchid to start with? I hope I a. not doing thesrong thing as I can see a new leaf that is about to pop out and some aireal roots. Your videos are very informative. Your advice is much appreciated.
Hi Donna! I have a playlist about water culture on my channel...there's a video about the water levels. Each one is individual, but usually I put about 1/3 of the roots into the water to start. Then I watch the plant to see how it responds. Thanks so much for watching and I wish you lots of success! :)
@@OrchidWhisperer Thank you so much for your response. I will follow your advice and will have to see how my orchid will respond. Would it be okay to leave it in the water day and night? I am trying to do the wet during day time and dry at night time as it is very dehydrated. Or should I just leave it in water and give it a dry period for two days?
I mist the air roots. I didn't think they would like being in the water. So many of my Phals grew air roots this year. I'm thinking they all need larger pots come spring time. What's your thought about so many air roots? Tammy in N AL 🙋♀️
I wish you had put the orchids recipe in writing because the tape went so fast. I could write it fast enough. Do you change your water once a week on your plants??? Thanks you.
I will do that on the next fertilizing video, Virginia. Thanks for the reminder! I change out the water completely every 5 or 6 days, depending on the weather. Blessings!
@@OrchidWhisperer hi sorry to bug you. my orchid is actually flowering right now. Should I still let them dry for 24 hours? I actually found some white mold on some of the roots. I cut it off today. So now I started to wonder if I should dry it for a day or two like I did before. then spray some hydrogen peroxide as you shared as the other vedio. The only concern is the baby is flowering now. Hey there love your videos I have an orchid now it was hard to see it's limpy leaves when it was in its packaging in store bought it home the leaves were so dehydrated so I removed it from moss n bark and put it in water 💦 It's been 5 days there is no mushy roots and it's had one more bud open up I'm so confused should I continue water culture or shall I put into moss as it was before Once I inspected the roots it was kind of forced into a foam sort of material which was heavily compacted and plant had barely any stable root formation. Please kindly help me
Hi! I'm glad you took this orchid out of its old media. Those foam forms can choke roots and they sometimes don't recover, so you did the right thing! Since it's already in water culture, you can either leave it in water culture till it grows some new roots, then repot in bark or moss...or you can leave it in water culture and see if it likes it. You really don't have to commit either way yet. But I would at least get some new roots in water culture first. Happy growing and thanks for watching!
Hi! Bark can break down if left standing in water for long periods of time. It will acidify and and can burn the roots. (I do soak my orchids in bark for about 5 minutes when I water...then allow the bark to dry before watering it again.) Happy growing!
It's so true that each plant is an individual.💚 Love this video.
