The orchid at minute 5:07 must try to elevate it somehow above the water, the base of the orchid should not sit in water.

I did PhalPal, in the last video you commented on. It’s growing new roots and mold is gone. How long do you leave yours in water? I’m pushing for two weeks. Is that too much?

I did? hahaha I don't remember but for sure I always comment when I see people doing something wrong because I don't want them to loose their plants. I keep mine 2 days in water and 5 days dry but in the summer when is very very hot I water more often even if is just for one day in water and then 3-4 days dry. Also in the winter when is very very cold I only keep them 1 day in water and almost 6 days dry, in the winter they don't do much anyway. This is not applying to the transition period is just for already established orchids to water culture. The reason I reduce the wet time in the winter when is very cold is because the white mold and the roots are starting to rot, even in the summer I tried one year to keep in water all the time and I lost so many good roots that were already adjusted with the water. I know there are people that are keeping them in water all the time but it never worked for me.

OMG that is completely different from me. I think mine would die like that. I will definitely experiment as I want to be the very best I can be. Your Orchids look Great!
Nice job with the water culture & video. 👍
The fish tank water is an interesting way of watering the orchids....makes sense the water in an "established tank" has the Ph perfect & a natural biome that all plants seem to love.
Your video makes me want to try water culture on 1 of my orchids now. 😁

There's an article on the St.Augustine Orchid Society website about using Pool Algaecide to control molds.
Have you tried using an Algaecide to control the mold situation on the roots?
I've read that Isopropyl Alcohol will treat molds as well.
      Hope that helps

PhalPal you must! I hate watering orchids so I’m putting half into water culture and some outdoors. It’s really to simplify fertilizer and free me up to record more. Thanks for staying tuned

Yes! Usually that’s a great way to transition from old media to new media. Water culture will help promote new root growth that’s ready for new media. ❤️

Why are some of the leaves/crown of the phals jammed almost all the way inside the jar and some are sticking out? Is there a reason behind the practice and which one is better practice? Ty

@@OrchidsforDummies I’m researching and watching videos before jumping into water culture. Ive noticed that some would place the entire plant inside the glass containers(leaves, crown, roots all jammed in) and some would only have the crown and leaves at the rim/outside of the containers. I dont know if its just for convenience but i personally like how the “jammed entire plant look” looks if that makes sense lol great videos btw. Very funny and entertaining!
