I love the glass containers you have so that the roots can be seen. I have been wondering if my orchids could be put in glass and now I know thanks to you sharing your knowledge. Great video and photography.
Absolutely THE best watering tutorial video I have yet to have seen for a newbie like myself. Again I am so very glad to have found you Alexander! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. You are appreciated! 🥰❤️
Thank you. It can vary depending on climate and media they are potted in. I was finding my way of watering through mistakes. And still.. i dont get surprised if some orchid suddenly die 😉 wish you the best!
I started getting orchids two years ago and I just couldn’t quit buying them but I realize what I was doing wrong was way overwatering. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us how to do it right.
Alexandra please show us how to repot. I am so happy I found your channel. Every thing you show us makes sense to me.. thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you....I was looking forward to this video with regard to watering where containers have no drainage. I am going to experiment with planting one of my orchids in a glass vase like that once they are done blooming.
So glad someone showed exactly how much water. Thank you for the video I hope you make more. It was a video that I needed. Thank you so very much!!!!! Hello from Texas.
Alexandra we need more videos with your knowledge of the orchards in glass,I did see couple others useing glass ,they are trying I to.d them about you UA-cam videos ,one lady I told her you are watering too much, which I learned from you. I am 79 can’t wait too long for your informatiom😅 thank you so much for sharing. 🙏👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I took the plunge and took my orchids out of water culture they were noticeably suffering put them in Leca then large bark and a little moss like you show in glass vases. In two months greener leaves 1 plant flower buds on old spikes and 4 plants have new spikes❣️so excited for healthy plants❗️❗️ although like you said how will I ever get them out to repot? I hope that’s a looong way off. And now I know how to water them💕. Thank you thank you Alexander❤️
Thank you so much for your feedback 🙂 its a surprise that you have great results already. Its been just a few months and orchids are slow growers. All the best!
Yay! You are back. It's wonderful to see how you grow and water these beautiful orchids. After watching you water, I realize (which I've always suspected) that I tend to water too much. I'll be looking forwards to your next one 😍
Hi Alex. Your orchids are so beautiful! I am working on learning how to grow orchids and it’s not going great. Anyway wanted to tell you how I transplant a plants when it is tight in the pot. I take a large plastic bag and put it down on table, then I slowly gently pull it out with container on its side. It helps to have someone hold container and tilt it. I would try that before breaking the glass. Thanks for your helpful tips. Had no idea you could grow them in a glass container. Good luck!
Hi Alex, really appreciate that finnally you share your watering process, I am really happy and it helps me a lot! I started 4 Phal orchids in moss just like you do and I am a little bit worried about how to water them. Glad you gave a very clear instruction. Your orchids are stunning, they look healthy and strong. I am a little bit envy to you hahaha. Thank you for the tutorial video. GBU!
Your orchids are so beautiful. Thankyou for the watering tips. I am waiting for 2 orchids I ordered from Roeampton Orchids, that will make 15 orchids I have. I have 2 tall glass vases without hole and thought I couldn’t use them because I understood that the pots needed drainage holes. I may have to give it a go. I use bark without moss. I use bark, charcoal and clay balls but only a few and my orchids seem happy.
First time watching Glad I did as I have these glass containers which I love and was always scared to plant the orchid in them without holes so I use the normal pots and fit them in the glass vase Thanks I’ll do an experiment see if I’m lucky
Wow! You water a little bit and they grow so well🥰🤲I have been taking my orchids to the sink and watering until the water runs out the bottom, maybe I don't need to do that anymore
Hello. Thank you. Its ok to water till water runs out of the bottom and then put it back without leaving any water in double pot. But its better to use filtered water and add a bot of fertilizer 😉 but it’s optional
Thank you. Right now during spring the minimum temperature is about 17C on bottom shelf when i open windows and maximum is about 23C on top shelf. Its a very good temperature range for them. They dont like when its too hot (over 27C)
My God your orchids are divine!!! So very healthy and shiny leaves and exuberant blooms. In time if you could make a video on other requirements such as fungicide application would be great. Thanks again
Thanks you. As for fungicide- i dont really use any. If the orchid stem rots then nothing can really save it unless you cut and wait for a new keiki. As for mushrooms in pots that can usually appear- they are not dangerous
May I know what’s the ambient temperature of the room where you keep your orchids? In New Zealand summer is really hot and there are days where we have all the four seasons…. Maybe a constant temperature keeps your orchids very happy. Please advise thanks
Do you not use the amount of roots to determine the size of the glass? They are very big, I could not hold it up like that to empty. But it looks lovely in the glass.
Hi Alexander, the big lip Orchid you have might be Phalaenopsis Star April's Coming. Google it and see if it looks like yours. Hard to tell but maybe that's it. Happy Growing :)
Do you have a warm environment and growing lights? Where do you live? I'm in upstate NY and the roots take forever to dry in the winter and are suseptible to mold. We keep out heat at 70 F in the winter and i have to take them out of the window because of how cold it gets.
Hello. I suggest to use all-season purpose fertilizer NPK 28-18-18 or 20-20-20 (equal combination) in crystals (non liquid) you can find in any big garden stores for plants. Any brand. Hope that helps
Im staying in south africa very dry climate experienced with a lot of media ive got also a phal in a big glass and repot a big phal 3 days ago also in a glass vase with big lava rock bark mix with leca and pieces of charcoal and on my nerves because there is na air holes in the vase 😮im keeping my eye closely on her are you fertilize weekly weakly
I was given an orchid in a glass jar, I can’t see the roots so I can’t tell if they are green or not. There is a lot of bark in the bottom. I basically water it when the bark looks dry which is probably maybe less than once a week. I have kept it alive 8 weeks now but I’m not sure what I’m doing really! I would hate it to die as it’s so pretty but I’m scared as I have no idea if I’m not watering enough or too much
I now know the orchid i bought in a glass vase is going to die. It is only partly filled with bark and the entire mini orchid is within the vase. If i soak and pour, the whole contents will tip out. If i water slightly the water pools on the bottom and hasn't dried up but the roots don't go all the way to the bottom so the plant dries out.
I give water in a spoon. I don't dranch Orchids. Their greens die. So I just spoon all around with a smaller amount of water. I don't Ice my Orchids. They're a hot plant, I don't use Ice.
Hello. I dont travel actually. Ut if tou leave for 7 days or less then its ok. 10 days - can prewarer them a bit more than usual. If more days - gotta ask somebody :)
Hello. Yes i have tried it and i still have the bottle but it wont do anything special to the plants. In fact im not even sure if its working or not. I suggest just a regular fertilizer NPK. There are no magic fertilizers. In fact you can use almost anything as a fertilizer just for fun, but there will be no magic.
is it ok to transplant an orchid while it's blooming? Mine needs a bigger container and I have a glass vase I want to put it in, but it's blooming and there is a baby on it that's also blooming, and I can see it making a new thing that looks like another flower... branch. Should I just wait a few months until it's done blooming?
Thanks for the question. I repot them when i want to. No matter if it blooms or recently purchased. If everything dine successfully- there will be no problem. Phalaenopsisare strong plants.
@@OrchidsByAlexander Thank you! I'll repot it soon. I'm excited to see my orchid in glass, yours look so cool that way! And maybe in a bigger container it will grow more leaves, it's only had 3 for years.
Thanks for the question. If i got plenty of filtered water then i dont reuse it but if im running out of it, then yes - i reuse it. And i almost all the time use it for watering other plants after finishing the orchids. Its fine doing it.
Good thing you have big muscles with all those big vases!
😉

Wow , they all looking very beautiful Orchids and plants .

Thank you for the advice. I will try to repot one of my orchids in a glass vase like yours and see what will happen, hope I can make it happy.😊
Thanks. Just keep in mind that i used medium to large pieces of pine bark as media in vases 🙂
You have beatiful healthy orchids ❤❤❤
Thank you Alexander ❤️🪴🪻🪸 your Orchids are beautiful!

Thank you :) in moss you just add a but of water abd thats it (double pot preferably) dont overwater, as moss tends to take the water like a sponge
