Granted I’m only in my twenties and have only been to three different dental offices, but every hygienist I’ve ever had has been a young, pretty, dark haired, Midwestern girl. Not complaining though, and they’re damn good at cleaning teeth 🦷
I use all three but getting a water flosser changed the game for getting to the areas that i miss a lot due to my particularly bad gag reflex. My upper molars are so happy with that purchase! I have a dental appointment next week, so ill be sure to ask them about my routine to get better feedback. I really like how much you stressed that suggestion!
I hate the string floss, it’s just annoying to me, and I find it difficult to get to the molars at the way back of my mouth. I’ve tried the water flosser but I haven’t learned how to properly use it, and accidentally shot water up my nose the last time I used it 🙃🙃🙃 I didn’t know about the interdental aids were a thing till now. I really want to improve my dental hygiene because I’ve always been bad with it. I found your channel while searching “dental routines” here on UA-cam. No influencers seem to have any videos dedicated to their dental hygiene routines, but almost all have videos dedicated to their skin care routine. Part of me wishes this could change: dental care is just as important as skin care, and these can translate to visual benefits as well. Anyways, thank you for this channel, I’m excited to learn more!
You aware that you need to have dental backgrounds to give advice on dental hygiene right? It would be stupid to learn dental hygiene from an influencer.
Lucky for me my dentist is very passionate about interdental brushes. A good dentist won’t just clean your teeth or fix a cavity they’ll also give you tips and show you how to floss and with what, if you’ve never done it before. I was terrified about going to the dentist; but a good one will turn it into a positive experience and actually makes you want to start taking care of your teeth!
traditional floss always slips from my fingers and i often have trouble reaching the back. i tried floss picks and its funny how easy it is to get "obsesssive" about flossing every single meal when its so easy to get started. because flossing is so easy, you want to brush more often, and you want to mouthwash more often too. im now super curious about interdental and water flossing
I now use both manual flossers and a water flosser. And it makes my teeth really clean and fresh, especially my Oclean W10 water flosser that works just as advertised.
I have lingual braces and my waterpik is ESSENTIAL!!! it broke over Xmas and just a few days without it had my gums inflamed. I preach flossing to everyone I know!!!
Its taken me ages to floss better I have tried proxy brushes but my teeth are to close together. Its a skill to get to the back teeth. I have a friend who said he doesn't need to floss according to his dentists advice. I gave him some Floss and asked him to floss just this once for me then smell the floss when finished. Apart loads of bleeding he said it smelt like something rotting. Yes I replied. That is food rotting between your teeth. He now tells me he flosses regularly. Thanks for sensible knowledgeable advice. Xx
Back teeth flossers are great. You can get all the way in the back without both hands. Once you get towards the front it's easy to turn sideways. I'm surprised they aren't more popular. With these you don't have an excuse.
Hey Whitney - thank you for taking the time and effort to product this excellent, easy to follow, video tutorial on the alternatives to flossing - love your contagious attitude toward this sometimes awkward necessary process.
Such an engaging personality! I just started flossing after losing a tooth...wish we have those alternatives here but what I could only find in the supermarket is floss picks...like you said, something is better than nothing...don't intend to lose another tooth, no!
My dentist recommended me a water flosser and interdental brushes. As I have adhd and autism and find the flossing experience 1. Really really boring so did it like twice and then stopped. 2. With autism flossing in between my teeth is really uncomfortable sensory wise so also stopped. The other two products are far far better
I have one paralyzed hand so have been using floss picks for about 28 years however I was using them wrong. Now after thousands of dollars in dental costs I had to sell my house to pay for, between using a waterpick every day, using a floss pick the right way which I have been doing for a few weeks now, mostly from watching my dental assistants and hygenist do it right with string floss and noting how different I did it with a floss pick plus the electric toothbrush I had but seldom used before I may actually be able to avoid getting cavities under my new crowns and bridges. Your videos helped too: a couple of times when I was at the Dentist office have told them "I saw this on the internt" refering to one of your videos and they said thats a good idea, before telling me why it was a good idea. I come here around once a week to see what's new.
For me water flossing is the best by far. Most of my teeth are super close from each other, the string floss barely gets in in certain places! I just can’t’ be bothered.
I don't floss because I just hate string floss, I want to floss, but I can almost never make myself do it. I don't care for the picks either, and water flossers are too bulky, I would never actually lug that thing out from under the sink. I HAD NO IDEA THOSE LITTLE IN BETWEEN BRUSHES EXISTED, THIS VIDEO WAS SO HELPFUL. I just went to the dentist for the first time in like 8 years and they recommended a deep cleaning so I'm really trying to improve my dental health.
Highly considering being a dental hygienist because of you! The only thing stopping me is my own fear of the unknown and failing. But I’m trying, really trying to rid myself of those thought. Thanks for all your info!
Me too !! I'm still deciding. My only reservation is my hands and body holding up. Otherwise, I'm pretty excited about it. I have to make a move soon. Ugh, decisions....also I keep hearing the market is saturated ? I don't see how...there seems to be LOTS of jobs out there ?
I love the floss picks for when I’m out during the day. (Occasionally if I can’t be bothered to string floss I’ll use one at home). But for someone with a ‘food trap’ gap in my back teeth, flops picks are great for on-the-go flossing. Another fantastic video Whit 🌷🌷💞🌷🌷
Thank you for your explicit explanation about dental cleanliness. I shall do my best to follow your instructions. Let me hope for the best. Thank you once again for your informative video.
I love using proxabrushes. I like the long-handled ones. My gums have finally stopped bleeding for the first time in decades! I use them after every time I eat along with flossing 2 to 3 times a day, and using a mini-brush that I keep with the proxabrush, and brushing at the sink with toothpaste once or twice a day. I'm mostly bedridden and I can use the proxas and floss without having to stand up. I just wipe off the proxa brushes with a napkin when done and keep them in a dental case and wash out them out with soap and hot water if they start to smell. If my gums hurt when I use the proxa brush I just use my waterpik and the pain goes away after one use which is great since I can't stand for long.
I've been flossing every day. I just found out about xylitol mouthwash. Possibly if I start using this daily I can quit flossing (I have tight dental spaces, so I use a thin brand of dental floss that you can't buy in the drugstore). My dental hygienist is big on flossing - but like every dental practice, this one is well supplied with floss and toothbrushes from the dental supplies reps, so: not exactly unbiased. I'd like your opinion, TTG. Thanks for the vid.
Well... crap. Flossers are my favorite! I was so proud of myself because I use my flosser at least once a day. I love it! And I'll admit, I doubt I'll use traditional floss, but I'll check out the other ones. Thank you for making these videos!
I can honestly say that I have never really been interested in my teeth until I found this channel. It's so interesting, I love it and I'm finally going to find myself a dentist again after a few years.. (sorry..) 😂
It just feels weird to have my hand in my mouth with regular floss string. I also can’t get a grip on the floss. I use the Floss Stick but I now turn it three different ways to cover each individual tooth area.
I didn’t floss that much as a kid and I had a bunch of cavities as a result 😫✌🏻. I started flossing recently since my family dentist told me I need to especially since I have a long family history of root canals. I was wondering - can flossing cause gaps in between teeth? I got braces and I would hate to undo any of that work.
For me the water pik helps clear out big chunks of food but I still need to floss to scrape the teeth and can see gooey film come off even after water pik

I'm a traditional string flosser, too. Unfortunately some years ago my dentist had to devitalize two of my teeth, but I've been using floss plus electric toothbrush since, and my oral health is now perfect (my dentist's word). Thank you TeethTalkGirl for sharing such great advice!
Traditional dental floss is a yes from me . I use waterfloss once or twice a week or if I eat something with really strong flavour , I d brush my teeth floss them and waterfloss them
One dental hygienist highly recommended me water flosser because of the buildup in my gums and another one did not recommend water floss because my teeth where too close to each other. So idk anymore

i got the normal flossing string and so far its noting going so well. it keeps getting stuck and/or torn in my teeth and its overall extremely uncomfortable so I'm thinking of using either an internal brush or a flosspick
I lost one of my favorite Full Molar and not flossing is more important than ever. I am running out of teeth and I DO not trust implants. Do Liquid Plac Rinses work work for plac? I use a water Flosser. Thanks alot. K
Thank god!! i only have access to floss pick (theres normal string floss too but they're ALOT more expensive here) and i was worried if the floss pick even help because alot of stuff online says they're not good :( Feel so relieved that they work too!
I would really like to try the water floss but I live in poverty in the Caribbean even going to the dentist is expensive so I don't really go, even getting floss is expensive 😢
that's awesome! totally impressed on your home care efforts! always ask you dental provider what they feel is best for your individual mouth - but twice a day does not seem like too much for me - I think it's great! but always confirm with your dentist! :)
I have a genetic connective tissue disorder. Every dentist has said that I shouldn't floss because it'd push the little flesh triangles down and cut them easier. Now I have tooth decay on my 2a that's about to hit the nerve. I feel like I'm burning the candle at both ends.
Flossers are the same as string. Works just as fine. Water flosser works also. Both can be used and water flosser is better at removing stuff string cannot and is massaging to the gums. String is risky and not great for dexterity and accuracy. Xylitol rinse is best after water flossing and brushing. It kills bad bacteria that water, brush and string cannot remove entirely.
Floss picks are my go to. I don’t have dexterity in my left hand, so I can’t use traditional floss. I’m trying to find out the best way to floss with the picks, as I think I’m doing it too harshly. My gums have begun to hurt and I think it’s from my aggressive flossing.
Even if I get the thinner floss I still end up getting it stuck in between some of my teeth further back. They are too close together to floss. It's so annoying trying to pull it out when it gets stuck. Like what is the best thing to use if you have a few teeth really close together like that?
I had the same issue, even my hygienist has issues there with flossing threads and brushes.. She has to use a lot of pressure, and go in from a very weird angle which isn’t doable for me at home so she recommended me to get a Waterpik instead even though she’s usually not a fan of them. But I think it works amazing, in general it’s such a game changer. Get one, try it out I am sure your teeth and gums will thank you 😊 just ‘make sure you don’t flood your bathroom the first time lol
@@annikaelisaa1879 I think I will. I've been thinking about getting one of those. Yeah It sounded like it might be messy. I guess I should lean over the bathtub the first time I use it.
You make such nice videos! Im a Dental Hygienist from the Netherlands and surprised you did include wooden toothpick (not to be mistake with the round shaped cocktail pick), is there a reason for this? Im also curious wich scientific studies you read about the water pik, I'm interested amd a lot of Dutch Dental Hygienist don't like the water pik. Love and peace back from the Netherlands!
hey friend! thank you SO much for watching and for this comment!!! totally a good thought about the wooden toothpick it's not as mainstream in my area but I'm going to look into it more! I've only seen water flossing research show improvements for the gingiva - not to reduce cavities! so that's why I always stress need to do something else in addition too :)
If you hate flossing, get the flosspicks to get used to it. It's quick, not messy and just easier. Then once you're more used to it, move to thread floss....
Hey what are the consequences of not flossing at all? Is once a week better than nothing? My doctor just said it isn’t I just don’t want a bunch of root canals in 20 years Thx
Hello, I recently found your videos and they've been a huge help to me. I do not have access to dental care, but i want to take my oral care seriously. I know a dentist is the best route, but could you do a video for overall at home care for ppl who don't have access to a dentist.
hi there! DEFINITELY will work on a video for this. until then, here is my video I did during the pandemic closures - hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/jgU_jZFupqE/v-deo.html
Non of the tool descrived clean between the teeth and the gum all the way around. Except water flosser. I put 1/8 tsp of baking soda in water to help whitening, then I rince with water.
String flossing gives me hand cramps and it freaks me out to see my fingers turn blue I used picks flossers for a bit, kinda helped but I felt it was wasteful so I found flossing handles that I put string floss on and can control tension. The larger handle stops my hands from cramping and no wrapping floss around my fingers turning them blue. I floss everyday now that I have something that works for me.

@@zunif exactly,thank you
I'm a traditional string flosser, too.
I use waterfloss once or twice a week or if I eat something with really strong flavour , I d brush my teeth floss them and waterfloss them
sounds like you have great home care efforts! keep up the great work!
I use picks for on the go, and my water pick every day.
One dental hygienist highly recommended me water flosser because of the buildup in my gums and another one did not recommend water floss because my teeth where too close to each other. So idk anymore
This is the info we all need. Thanks!
this is Violet when she stops being a super hero and becomes a dental hygienist
Edit: I just finished watching the video and she even sounds like her
Have been binge watching your videos for entertainment..........correction.... intellectual entertainment :P . I am currently assisting as a DA at a community clinic and hoping to get into DH. Keep sharing more videos like these!
I love using a water pick for my very back molars and I can't use the c-shape technique on a certain angle and it's also super sensitive. I do my best.
only thing that bites is keep loosing the fuckign charger and have to buy a new one........
Hey! Maybe you'd like to hear that I started flossing my teeth now and use your videos for tips and motivation ❤️
yesssss!!!! so so so happy to hear this! thank you for watching and wishing you continued dental health!
As a perio patient I can’t thank you enough
You sound like you're from Chicago (or maybe Detroit?) area and I'm insta subbing because us midwesterners need to stick together!
haha YESSSSS! thank you :) chicago!!!!!!!
Always scared to ask the dentist questions for fear of getting charged for a consultation
Lmao
flossing has so many choices I use oral B silk floss find best no shredding hate GUM floss & any GUM products.... worst ever & lil trees are great get plaque .....basic oral b electric $ 20 they have oral b 's that tell time. weather analyze how u brush nice to big & busy for me...Water Pik flosser highest setting sister gave to me to strong for her ...have used water flosser by water pik had no power to me .this model great .....last product Listerine Total Care swish vigorously least 2 mins. does burn sure some people wont like that just spit out do not rinse w/water ...since using Oral b elec for years my cleanings are easy breezy lil scraping of plaque but nothing like used to be .....actually enjoy using elec brush & water pik .....great vid always learn something...THANKS
Great information ,I’ll use interdental brushes .
i got the normal flossing string and so far its noting going so well. it keeps getting stuck and/or torn in my teeth and its overall extremely uncomfortable so I'm thinking of using either an internal brush or a flosspick
Or try a thinner floss string ?
I have losed two of my old in-between composite fillings by traditional flossing😢
I lost one of my favorite Full Molar and not flossing is more important than ever. I am running out of teeth and I DO not trust implants. Do Liquid Plac Rinses work work for plac? I use a water Flosser. Thanks alot. K
The ADA says flossing is needed. The other stuff like water pick is an adjunct but does not *replace* flossing.
Thank god!! i only have access to floss pick (theres normal string floss too but they're ALOT more expensive here) and i was worried if the floss pick even help because alot of stuff online says they're not good :(
Feel so relieved that they work too!
The most beautiful dental hygienist!!!!💃
If you have sensitive teeth don't do want I did the first time using my water floser. Using cold water is not a good idea, warm water worked better.
I would really like to try the water floss but I live in poverty in the Caribbean even going to the dentist is expensive so I don't really go, even getting floss is expensive 😢
I love floss picks
I’m so glad I found your channel
so glad you're here!!! thank you!
i like your way of talking and expressing.. you are interesting and fun to watch :)
I have been using my water flosser twice a day this past month since discovering it. I'm obsessed. Do you think twice a day is too much? lol
that's awesome! totally impressed on your home care efforts! always ask you dental provider what they feel is best for your individual mouth - but twice a day does not seem like too much for me - I think it's great! but always confirm with your dentist! :)
I use multiple sizes for the interdental 👍🍻🇨🇦
I used floss, proxy brushes and water flosser 😊
Are sealants harmful for our body? I have heard they have BPA ? Please tell me as I am looking to get a sealants in my molar
Since we wouldn’t reuse the same part of dental floss, should we the rinse interdental brushes between teeth?
yes!!! similar to your toothbrush between sessions! but during I do as well if you see visible debris!
Floss picks get stuck under my teeth sometimes , regular floss is better but is hard to grip when hands are wet
Why am I suddenly excited to visit the dentist and ask them for once a good question 🤔🤣🤣! I rarely have anything to ask my dentist whenever I go!
I used to hate flossing but now I love it. 💘
My teeth are too tight for interdental brushes (even pikster 00) and it makes me so sad, they look so satisfying
Here in the UK 🇬🇧 we have tepe which I use 😀
so great to hear that!!! thank you for watching :)
If you hate flossing, get the flosspicks to get used to it. It's quick, not messy and just easier. Then once you're more used to it, move to thread floss....
Hey what are the consequences of not flossing at all?
Is once a week better than nothing? My doctor just said it isn’t
I just don’t want a bunch of root canals in 20 years
Thx
I use just floss picks 😍
What kind of flossing should be done if you have fillings or root canal treatment?
Amazing video as always♥️♥️
thank you friend!
Superb video dear ,Thanks a million I will watch more of your videos.
thank you for watching!!! and commenting kind!
@@TeethTalk welcome 😊
Hello, I recently found your videos and they've been a huge help to me. I do not have access to dental care, but i want to take my oral care seriously. I know a dentist is the best route, but could you do a video for overall at home care for ppl who don't have access to a dentist.
hi there! DEFINITELY will work on a video for this. until then, here is my video I did during the pandemic closures - hope this helps: ua-cam.com/video/jgU_jZFupqE/v-deo.html
@@TeethTalk Thank you so much. Yes, that video was extremely helpful.
Can you make video on grinding and clenching teeth .Also on gum recession.
yes :) both are coming soon :) :) :)
