A classic adventure by a classic adventurer. To travel through Africa on a bike with zero support in this day and age is something only contemplated by the brave and super-resilient. Not only do you withstand the thousands of daily trials and tribulations (and the occasional good day, of course, when food, water and a campsite come easily, nothing breaks, no health issues, the road is "reasonable" and flies, mosquitoes and other irritants are few) but you take the time and effort to charge loads of batteries somehow, cart a drone around and make sure that it is protected, take excellent footage, edit, publish......A modern-day hero.
Thats your best film yet ! You really captured the essence of Africa ,dirt tracks through the bush, idyllic bush camps, the wildlife and even the f..king flies 😁 that is the Africa of my memories of 22 years living in Kenya and South Africa decades ago ! Brilliant ,just brilliant 👍
Another great video Niels - you are 1 tough hombre! hahaha. I did a lot of bushcamping in South Africa 30 years ago and it was the same then - people would ask "aren't you frightened?, what about the wild animals, snakes and poisonous insects?" The truth is I never in 2 years saw any thing close by my camps, the people were always friendly and helpful and they were fantastic experiences. Be careful around the hippos and buffaloes as they are very shortsighted and bad tempered. The hippo is the most dangerous animal in Africa and kills more humans than any other species. Remember to check yourself at the end of each day for ticks. Tick bite fever is no joke! You are definitely the Number 1 bikepacking channel on UA-cam! Stay safe and have fun!
I hope you are well and there were no major problems for you while in Africa. I know I would not have had the courage you have shown. It's only when we overcome our fears that we can grow to achieve greater successes in life. Many successes to you.
Another great video Niels! I love the views of Africa that you are sharing with us. It's like you are peeling back the layers over a hidden world. Love seeing the birds, the monkeys, gazelles, hippos, that crocodile! The children love seeing you. :D You do a great job of editing, narrating, and music selection. Looking forward to your next one!
Thanks for the vid man. Impressed by your tenacity and staying power. Think that it is inspirational that you are all solo on this trip. Will look at your bike setup info for aids!! Guess our paths overlapped in and out of Kasama (and the big supermarket!). Many thanks for sharing!
just discovered you Man you are a cool sock. I'm a little flat. Great video, well done. Thank you for taking me with you. Thanks for a short answer Many greetings Bernard
Love your courage and the photography. Zambia is a beautiful country and the people so friendly. Thank you for sharing your journey. stay strong and stay safe.
I know it is your private part of such beautiful recording. I wonder my dear friend how to you control de drone while you are driving the bicycle. God bless you
👍🏻 Het was weer fantastisch…, ik volg je al vanaf je vertrek…, wat een uitdagingen elke keer…, blijf genieten en tot gauw…! 👋🏼 Hartelijke groeten vanuit Sommelsdijk.
Again a brillant video . what a journey you had . looking forward to the next one . greetings from Norway ( working in Norway) but when in the Netherlands living on Terschelling.
Wow! I was in Zambia 2009 doing a wild camping safari. Beautiful country and all of the people I came across were welcoming and friendly. I assume those flies were Tsetse? Very persistent, you can hit them and they still keep coming back. They can even bite through your clothes and their bite is painful. I had the luxury of travelling in a 4x4 truck but cycling must be an amazing adventure. I'm surprised you were allowed to cycle through Luangwa. It's one of the last truly wild places in Africa with many dangerous animals.
Shemagh, it's what you need against the flies. You can keep from heat stroke and bugs. If you wet it then you can keep cooler. When in Africa we travelled by night if on foot patrols. That was long ago. Nile crocs are very powerful. Just give wild animals space and you should be fine.
Amazing video...but you took a big risk in the national park😮. I grew up in zimbabwe and can tell you. You were mad to have gone without a guide yet alone a gun 😂
Big fan man, great videos. I'm from South africa and have been following your journey from the start. One thing I would say, please stay further away from the hippos they can get extremely aggressive very quickly and way faster than they look. Oh and another reason for the wild fires are to encourage new growth of the vegetation.
I know about the fires for the growth of new vegetation. Sadly, we need fires because we have exterminated most wildlife that would otherwise be grazing this vegetation.
Your drone is a great way to see big game and get views you wouldn't otherwise see. Do you use solar panels feeding a power bank to keep your devices charged so you are effectively self sufficient? In the bush and NP I would be worried about lions. Yes lighting a fire to keep curious wild life away is a good idea.
Wow! What an impressive update. Especially liked the drone footage. What ruins were you camping at @5.15? Thanks for these previews. We're looking forward to our own Africa trip, starting in 2 months from now. Cheers Kurt and Darina
I see a lot of parts that has changed. But not a handle bar. cyclingaroundtheplanet.com/route/ Or did I miss it. What a great journey. Looking forward to see Niels entering the Cape of Good Hope.

I know about the ticks, they are actually not very abundant in Zambia, but I'm careful and aware of them here in Europe
@@cyclingaroundtheplanet the ticks are plentiful in South Africa if you are heading there.
You deserve much more popularity than this. Your adventure and the videos that chronicle it are simply exceptional. Well done, mate.

Bedakt voor je videos!, volg je al 2 jaar. Elke keer beter 😀👍
How are you making/finding this route?
Ik ben benieuwd waar je nu op de wereld fietst, omdat deze video nog van vorig jaar is, of ben je op dit moment niet onderweg?
you still alive
You had a handlebar change, right ? Why is that ?

@@plofkraak6536 look at the thumbnail
The bike on the thumbnail is someone else's (François), not his, that's the explanation.
I think amundsen would have chosen the antarctic being less dangerous...camping in the savannah???!!!@??!
It is not easy to travel in Africa convenient
It is not easy to travel in Africa continent
The sceneries and everything is very nice to see but you don t fool me. That s a miserable way of traveling....
