We had an awesome and welcoming experience cycling in Morocco in the spring of 2017 and 2018. We cycled on the same roads as you did and mixed wild camping and paying for accommodation. We were cheerfully greeted and invited on a daily basis for tea, food, and staying in people's homes or on their land. We are very grateful for this experience and the Moroccan people we met. Then this horrifying thing happened later in 2018, which apparently and unfortunately also left its marks.
The culture in Imlil (where the incident happened) and Tafraout are very different, although they're both berbers. I am from Tafraout region, and before the last 80-100 years, the region was never under any centralized government. It was like a wild west of Morocco, people relied on an intricate set of unspoken rules, customs, and alliances to survive the semi-desertic unforgiving landscape. Foreigners to the region, even Moroccans, find it hard to adapt to these unspoken rules and often come off as rude and/or unpolite. Unlike Imlil, which has been shaped more recently by tourism and its proximity to larger towns, Tafraout and the anti-atlas region developed a culture of self-reliance and resilience evident by the "Igoudar" (plurial for "Agadir") fortified granary structures.
You know Netflix spend millions and millions and millions of dollars on making movies and documentaries. And the both of you are doing it all on your own and that’s travelling and living on your bike 🚴🏻. But what is really special about what you’re doing is your creating quality that shit’s all over what Netflix is pumping out…… 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Guys the quality on this video is outstanding 👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you both so much for sharing.. ( And little lady when it is just to much and you feel like throwing it in just think back on what I’m saying in this comment ) And I’m speaking on behalf of millions of people 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪 A very big thank you 😊
Welcome to Morocco. Thank you. I have been following your channel for more than a year and a half. I have been following your videos. Welcome to my beautiful country, Morocco.
That is lovely to hear! Morocco is a fantastic country for cycling. Very beautiful, quite a big diversity in landscapes and many many wonderful people! Best wishes, E&M
I've been to Morocco all Over for Filming myself 20 Years ago. I must say we experienced some Extremely Friendly and kind people in our travels throughout Morocco however they also warned us about the same things you mentioned here. Not all people are Nice. There are some Very dangerous places and situations so its nice to see the Kind People of Morocco seemed to be Very Concerned about your Safety!
It is lovely seeing Maroc by bicycle. My partner and I visited for a 5 week holiday in 1982. I vividly recall the mountain journeys....especially by bus ....hair raising at times. A beautiful country Thanks for bringing me along on your journey. Cheers from British Columbia.

Watching that epic downhill brought back memories of similar ones my wife and I experienced on our bicycle trips around the world. Strange how we have forgotten the tough grinds up, yet the freedom of those long downhill runs remain so clear! Thanks for sharing 👍
Another rich and rewarding series of spectacular images juxtaposed with the underlying currents of angst as expressed in your narrative. Interestingly I ran into some strange behaviors on my first trip was way back in 1969 when my sister and I her quasi boyfriend headed out for a three night trip from New Haven, Connecticut east up to Cape Cod, MA via Rhode Island and up to the mid-Cape and then up to Boston, MA. We had clear plastic sheets as a tent/tarp and one evening the supervisor at the state park upon learning we did not have a real tent informed us that we would need to be out of the park immediately after first light! Of course so much has changed except for my passion for exploring upon my two wheels. It is so rewarding to know this spirit of adventure lives on in so many other lives…. I look forward to more episodes of your journeys… remain vigilant and god speed …. David
Thank you! Hm, that's strange! Would it have been different if you would have a real tent? I'm not sure about the rules & regulations in the US. I know there are a lot of free parking sites for campervans, but are you allowed to camp there nowadays? I'm glad to hear your still passionate about exploring the world by bike 😊 And yes, we definitely got 'the bug' too!
I really appreciate your time spent making this video, numerous stops and good angles just to give us a good POV as if were part of your wonderful journey to these wonderful places. ride safely to both of you always - watching from the Philippines!
I'm always quite excited when I see you have a new video. You are both such fun to watch and your film making just gets better and better....thank you!
Wonderful video, thank you ! Technically super, great images and editing, with the perfect blend of your thoughts and interactions with other people. Keep riding, keep making these films, and above all, stay happy & stay safe!
Another fantastic video, E&M! I didn't know how I'd enjoy the Morocco series, but I'm actually quite liking it. And it shows how friendly the Moroccans are, concerned for your safety. May make things frustrating at times, but it's with good intentions. And like someone mentioned already, the frustrations only make the fantastic things even better!
Exactly that, we could sense the well meant intentions and we really appreciate that. We are glad you liked it, even though it might not be a preferred destination!? All the best, E&M!
Thanks Martin! We always try to look at it from a bit of distance. Although difficult in the moment we were happy people took our safety serious. All the best, E&M
Amazing video footage, editing, music, and bravery. Also Maudi, the perfect cyclist touring super model and funny music ha ha ha Eric perfect delivery behind the camera shoot 🥰 📸🙏. The Best couple on the internet. 👩❤️👨
I'm glad you were able to stay safe. I think it's the same everywhere. 99.9% of people are lovely but it's the 0.1% that you sometimes have to worry about. Thank you for your fantastic videos.
Really a lovely video about travel through spectacular scenery. Loved the music, loved the camels and donkeys, loved the interaction with some local villagers. Also - I always like seeing the important role that coffee plays in your travel. Reminds me of the year I spent in the Netherlands. Stay safe and keep on touring!
So sorry for your experience but happy to see you're both enjoying your day regardless. Guess these kind of experiences make the rest seem that much better. Love your spirit and the video's!!!
First time I've seen you guys. I'm from NZ & Tafraoute is one of my favorite places in the world. A moonscape, in places. Hope you made it to Ait Mansour, an incredible oasis around 30km away. I'm back in Tafraoute in October, as it happens! Safe travels.
I love watching your adventures and I have to say your film-making skills are excellent. Top quality editing, pacing and story telling. Really happy that I found your channel.
In the meantime I have watched many of your videos. What do I like the most? Well, thats the way you are filming, how your are building up a story. Then of course beautiful landscapes, insights into the culture of the country you are traveling to, interesting conversations with people. You are respectful of the environment, the people you meet and their culture. You're both doing that very well and convey so much optimism and joy. That would actually be contributions for television. Have you never been asked? Anyway- thank you for these extraordinary videos!
Thanks for sharing 💛 That's a really wonderful compliment. We haven't been asked and honestly, youtube is enough! 😊 If we were ever asked to do something for television, I would like it to be about something other than our own adventures.
I have been following your journey for many months now, this video shows you passing by the Kasbah at Ida Ugnidif, it's a shame you were not able to stop/or stay there! It's a wonderful place and very friendly, have stayed there many times on our rock climbing trips in the anti-atlas mountains. Best wishes, Raz
I had some gnarly experiences myself while traveling in Morocco back in 1987 but the beautiful landscape, architecture and diverse culture still made it worthwhile.
Hi guys I hope you're well,so nice to see you back out on your bikes pleade take care, thanks for sharing your travels so appreciated in this crazy world..totally enjoyed your last video of travel, all the very best, much Love and greetings from Manchester 🇬🇧
Thank you for sharing your adventure, with all the work that filming entails. I love Morocco - I have been 3 times, always to wild corners of the country - in search of nature (birds in particular). One trip was different - a trek through the Jebel Sahro mountains over Xmas and NY. I’ve always been struck by the kindness and generosity of the people. And I love deserts and arid environments - they are exquisitely beautiful & peaceful, but always there is life if you look for it, and with respect. Reflecting on your experience, perhaps the filming is alienating for some cultures who want their corner of the planet to remain private.
Wonderful to hear you enjoy Morocco so much! We realise filing is not always appropriate and we do try and ask and/or feel out the situation and act respectfully and accordingly. Best wishes! E&M
I'm Amazigh n' small Atlas it's our Mountain chain , im precisely from Tafraout , a great people they ar Rich in there spirit...The first guy spook about Camel n' the old Man wanna give u eat !!! He ask about Food to feed ya ...Think u come with bad idea n' negative one...in morroco everywhere u go u find open heart n' Hospitality especially from Amazigh people ❤❤❤ .
Greetings! Glad your latest adventure is going well so far. My favorite part was also the thumbnail shoot that Ken pointed out :) It's nice to see you both having fun together. I am always intrigued by how you both can extract joy and beauty from such rugged and demanding places like the wildness of Iceland and the stark environment of the Moroccan dessert. Enjoy the journey and thanks for sharing!! :)
I guess all bike tours have their good days and their tough days, but the tough ones make you appreciate the good ones all the more deeply. I'm selfishly loving the slightly longer videos in this series; more for us to enjoy, but harder for you to make. :) This one seemed slightly different from your usual style... more candid, maybe; a little "sillier" (in a good way)? I really liked it! The 360-camera shots on that downhill were incredible. Looking forward to the next one. As always, be safe!
They do, it's all about contrasts... There are high highs and sometimes low lows... And the 'lows' can definitely make you appreciate the good moments even more! I'm glad you liked the longer video's, let's see if we can keep up with it! 😬 Thanks for the insights, we're glad you liked the 360 shots, we're also very happy with the new angle! Ps. if you have some tips on where to improve we're also very open to hearing that 🙏
Amazing what your doing, I decided to do a little bike tour, from home, first day 85 kil. find a nice hidden campsite, decide not to put up tent to be more hidden, starry night, the mosquitos were terrible even with bug spray, my brand new air mattress leaked out in 5 minutes, no sleep even with sleeping pill, I packed up and rode home with handheld flashlight. No traffic. I guess i dont got what it takes
Hi William! We had plenty of those nights too! It's a learning curve. Perhaps try again when there are no mosquitos and always test your gear at home/garden before taking it out. You can do it 🚲🏕💪🏼
As always a wonderful video. great insight into the beautiful moroccan countryside. Love to visit sometimes, but probably in our motorhome rather than bikes.😄
Great video!!! The photo and the title are little confusing. By the way the old person on the photo is a local authority (Mokadem). He was there for your security because the campers can't set up anywhere without risk. The gentleman came to get information from you to find out if you're missing anything (according to what he says in Arabic).
Back in '94 I sat, with two buddies, outside a cafe at the top of the climb out of Chefchaouen, heading toward the Rif and Ketama, and a big Moroccan guy at the next table leant back over his chair, turned to us and said in English "This is not tourist country".. That was a little disconcerting but we really wanted to see the Atlas Cedar forests of the Rif then ride on down to Fez so we continued. Apart from another slightly disconcerting experience just after we passed thru Ketama (big hashish town) we only experienced kindness and hospitality from Moroccans.. It's one of my 3 favourite countries visited, Japan and Mexico being the others..
Hm, that isn't very inviting. I can imagine that it made you doubt a bit. But I'm glad you have continued... We also had several smaller moments where it was hard to read people's intentions but luckily all the welcoming smiles, thumbs ups and general energy of the people more then made up for it! Ps. Japan and Morocco are also two of our favorites, so I guess we should go to Mexico now 😉
I was in a group of about half a dozen motorcyclists with another two guys in a pick-up truck in that area years ago. We stopped for lunch and these dodgy blokes pulled up wanting to swap their manky old Renault car for one of the bikes. We laughed at them, but then they said they would fill the boot with hashish fo us so the car would be worth more.We were still laughing at them when a police truck pulled up and they buggered off. The police guys were very nice, but said it was best not to stop in that area... I found the advice of the police and army in Morocco was always good.
@@richardsimpson3792 Yup, we were approached by a friendly policeman in the junction town north of Ketama where we stopped for the night. He suggested we refuse any invitation to go visit a hash farm and stay in our hotel room at night. We followed his advice..
Where are you from? Im from denmark, and im going to Spain and Marroco in 2 months, and im going to be there for 6 months. So I found your videos for do's and dont's👍 I wosh you 2 all the best🙏🌏💚☮️❤️☯️❤️
We had one single (and utterly tragic) incident with these Scandinavian girls ,so everyone here including people and authorities are highly vigilant and cautious to avoid any other such incident ,you guys should be grateful that people care for your safety ,just follow the local rules and keep away from camping in forbidden spots , better safe than sorry although attacks on tourists are extremely low in Morocco ,despite receiving 13 millions of them a year ,it's 1000 time safer to sleep in the wild of Morocco than inside a university or shopping mall int the US
@@clovergrass9439That's your prerogative. I will never let my avoidant, fearful and cowardly tendencies get so severe that I justify avoiding entire continents on the basis of one crime.
Another beautiful episode. I love it, I love it, I love it. The landscapes the scenery, the great emptiness as it sometimes looks like. Awesome. And again, how you compose all the features. ❤❤❤
Compelling video. Thanks. Hope all is well, For those interested: Song at beginning listed in the description. “Shadoma” by Mini Vandals Song at 14:30: “Min Wahi El-Lami: by Ali Sabah Song at the 16:40 minute mark is “Sacred Waters” by Gabriel Lewis
Once again, a visual and emotional masterpiece. I must admit (this Florida boy loves his trees) I can only take some much barren desert landscapes. And yet, the historian in me and the geologist in me would absolutely love to see that part of Morocco.
Kind of with you about deserts, though they can be fascinating. Too hot for me, though I have spent months in them looking at the trees, their uses socially, medicinally, forage blah blah blah (Sahel) ... But isn't Florida excruciatingly humid in summer? Like, everything is permanently damp? Are fungal infections rife?
I can imagine, there's many fossil's and different types of stones and minerals to be found. We got used to the barren landscapes after a while, it very special on it's own and actually quite diverse if you look closely. Though when we got back to more green area's the smell of the trees and other plants was so distinctive. That's a moment we realized how much we missed it! 🌲
There is always a fine balance between judging situations as risks or new opportunities for adventure. Importantly, we must be grateful for each day when the adventure wins, and we make it out alive. I'm glad that you're both safe, and looking forward to seeing more of your trip!
We went with my wife to Morocco from Switzerland, with our van, for a month in 2019, three months after the attack on these two Danish tourists. The police were super nice but paranoid, we had to leave our bivouac spots twice to sleep in front of the police stations. Then we played hide and seek with them, camping where they couldn't find us. We love Morocco and the friendliness of its people.
Beautiful trip and photography. The fear and strictness of the authorities came after the terrorist attack in 2018 in the Atlas Mountains on two tourists in the middle of the mountains. It was an isolated incident. Morocco is a safe country and Moroccans are peaceful and open and there is no need to be afraid. I hope you understand the situation and have a happy trip.
I cycled through Morocco years ago and it is a.great and interesting country, though back then 1997! We had no smartphones or Sat nav and had to rely on our map reading abilities, also no ipods or gopros or insta360 cameras to record journey with 😆
learning few words to communicate with the locals is necessary , most of them were not in school , locals feel happy when you make efforts to connect with them..
Loved the acoustic music in this video! Looking foward to the next video!
😊 Nice, Thanks! Next one in the making...

You can do it 🚲🏕💪🏼
OMG that rivals your vietnam tour in intense insanity. How you found water baffles me.
It was intense but the people had our best interest at heart. In Vietnam we had a few other experiences... Best wishes, E&M
Great adventure fun riding along 🚴
Glad you liked it!
Hot damn! I always love watching your videos. Keep on, keeping on, you guys. And stay safe!
🙏
Great video, I love your work!
🙏
As always a wonderful video. great insight into the beautiful moroccan countryside. Love to visit sometimes, but probably in our motorhome rather than bikes.😄
Thanks Ian 😊 Enjoy your visit when it comes around! All the Best, E&M
I am liking the music and the editing. great work yall thanks
🙏
Great video!!! The photo and the title are little confusing. By the way the old person on the photo is a local authority (Mokadem). He was there for your security because the campers can't set up anywhere without risk. The gentleman came to get information from you to find out if you're missing anything (according to what he says in Arabic).
Safety first, loved the video safe journey
Beautiful video guys! There is some danger everywhere in the world but important to strike the right balance between fear and trust😃👍
We completely agree, thank you Nic! 🙏
wow the downhill shot was brilliant -we were all right there with you!
Glad you liked it! We also love the new angle...
Excellent maps in these new videos.

Amazing places and beautiful video ! Does anyone know the name of the music played at 13:00 ? Thanks in advance :)
I'm pleased you are both OK. It must have been a rather unsettling experience. Great video. Take care. JP
Thanks so much Jay! Wishing you all the best, E&M
Nice vid, i cycled thru the atlas in the 1980s 3 times. Had a wonderful trip and people were friendly. Found spain much more dangerous at that time.
Thank you Henry! Great to hear you had a wonderful time :)
We followed his advice..
thanks again !! stay safe !! 🙏
Where are you from?
Im from denmark, and im going to Spain and
Marroco in 2 months, and im going to be there for 6 months. So I found your videos for do's and dont's👍
I wosh you 2 all the best🙏🌏💚☮️❤️☯️❤️
We had one single (and utterly tragic) incident with these Scandinavian girls ,so everyone here including people and authorities are highly vigilant and cautious to avoid any other such incident ,you guys should be grateful that people care for your safety ,just follow the local rules and keep away from camping in forbidden spots ,
better safe than sorry although attacks on tourists are extremely low in Morocco ,despite receiving 13 millions of them a year ,it's 1000 time safer to sleep in the wild of Morocco than inside a university or shopping mall int the US
Very tragic indeed. We were grateful that people were looking out for our safety and always are conscious about local rules and camping locations.
I will never go to that continent.
@@clovergrass9439That's your prerogative. I will never let my avoidant, fearful and cowardly tendencies get so severe that I justify avoiding entire continents on the basis of one crime.
It was beautiful to watch visiting Morroca country side . ❤
Lovely to hear that! Best wishes :)

Thanks Thomas, we'll definitely watch out and are always very conscious of the places we go & camp.
Another beautiful episode. I love it, I love it, I love it. The landscapes the scenery, the great emptiness as it sometimes looks like. Awesome. And again, how you compose all the features. ❤❤❤

12:01 What bottle cages you have on your fork and how are the holding up?
BBB Fuel Tank XL, the best cages sadly discontinued!
Exactly, it's important to judge different situations separately and weigh the risks!
You great really. Even i love cycling too for fitness only. Daily i ride cycling 20 miles. And a huge respect to you from india ma'am.
Great to hear that! Keep on riding 💪🏼
What do you use to store your drinking bottles on the handlebars? I hope you know, what I mean. 😊
Awesome video you guys be careful
Enjoy watching here From Philippines, keep safe both
Thanks 🙏
Fantastic guys! Keep going on. What music track you used? it sounds really nice, thanks.
Thanks! We used a lot of music from different websites, so it would be a long list to look up... 😬 Any specific one you like?
We went with my wife to Morocco from Switzerland, with our van, for a month in 2019, three months after the attack on these two Danish tourists. The police were super nice but paranoid, we had to leave our bivouac spots twice to sleep in front of the police stations. Then we played hide and seek with them, camping where they couldn't find us. We love Morocco and the friendliness of its people.
Our experience was quite the same! Really friendly and very protective. Morocco has become a favourite for us too! All the best, E&M
Awesome!!!
Nice video. I will watch for the second time to make the translation so everyone understands.
🙏
Beautiful trip and photography. The fear and strictness of the authorities came after the terrorist attack in 2018 in the Atlas Mountains on two tourists in the middle of the mountains. It was an isolated incident. Morocco is a safe country and Moroccans are peaceful and open and there is no need to be afraid. I hope you understand the situation and have a happy trip.
We do understand and had a lovely experience in the rest of Morocco. Thanks & All the best!
I cycled through Morocco years ago and it is a.great and interesting country, though back then 1997! We had no smartphones or Sat nav and had to rely on our map reading abilities, also no ipods or gopros or insta360 cameras to record journey with 😆
Sounds great too 😊 I love some good old fashioned maps 🗺
Like the fact your bikes have rim brakes easily replaced easily fixed for those long rough distances .
LOL. My SA dyno DRUM brake has 31,000 miles. The rims and spokes look like the day I laced it.
Grim brakes are a total FARCE.
great effort on the climb👊
Thanks 💪🏼
learning few words to communicate with the locals is necessary , most of them were not in school , locals feel happy when you make efforts to connect with them..
Omg the thumbnail Instagram shoot classic. Digging the great action shots !
Haha, glad you liked it 😁
