Delft is a city in the Netherlands. I live there. Delft blue is a type of “paint” that goes on ceramics like tiles, vases and plates.
The history of Delft porcelain and ceramic manufacturing is so interesting!
Hey Manon,mijn medelander!
❤😂 Groetjes uit Eindhoven!
Groetjes uit Rotterdam :-)
groetjes uit Spijkenisse😊
Can’t go without saying that Delft is super cute. There’s so much art there, I love it!
I can't believe how much I like this peel and stick tile. You're right, it instantly elevated the bathroom and made it seem more inviting. I'm really enjoying you bouncing back and forth between the cottage and the new house. It keeps me on my toes.
Right!!! 💕💕
Ditto
@XOMaCenna looks great. Wanted to let you know they make a floor stripping to put around the toilet base for a clean edge. Can't wait for part 2.
Delfts Blauw (Delft's blue) is a 17th-century pottery style, invented in the city of Delft as a response to the Chinese porcelain styles that the Dutch imported from the East.
I love how they were often handmade for a specific space and depict scenes that represent the owner or the use of the space ❤ It's part of the same movement in the 17th century of turning towards simplicity and the everyday life for inspiration.
I have used peel and stick vinyl planks in my whole house. I did it myself, oh yeah I’m 70 years old. It looks great! Love yours too!
Wow, that’s very impressive! That must have been a big job.
Kudos to you! Huge respect.
You inspire me so. 😊
I looove when you treat us to these little mini renos before you go for the big ones! It's like there's no fear of "messing up" since it's not permanent, so it's always bold and fun :)
Artistry from Momma, meticulous attention to detail from Dad, and of course, supervision from Kinsley... Floor looks fabulous.
Floor looks much better. You can roll your towels and store them in the pull out cabinet. That’s what I’d do. You can also add a partition inside it for washcloths and hand towels. I’m thinking about painting my sink hardware brass with a satin overcoat. Hopefully it works out ok.
DO NOT CAULK AROUND YOUR TOILET!!! When the wax seal for your toilet starts leaking you won't know until the water seeps underneath ALL the tile you just laid, the ceramic tile under that and rot the sub floor. The proper way to do it is to uninstall your toilet, buy a new wax ring, tile up to the wax ring area, place the new wax ring, and reinstall the toilet over the new peel and stick tile.
Glad I saw this lol I am about to remodel our little bathroom and was planning on doing that😬
I’m soooo glad you decided to work with the blue tile-even if it’s temporary! It’s such a unique countryside vibey detail that makes this space different from anything you’ve done before! Loving how it’s going!
The floor looks great. Can't wait until you paint the white walls a different colour. I think that will make a huge difference to the feel of the room.
I LOVE those blue tiles. I would remove those bars on the window immediately. I am so shocked they were allowed to sell the house with those still on. Yes on French country! I LOVE that floor!!!
The blue tile is called "Delfst blauw", originating from the Dutch city Delft in the 16th century i believe
Delft is so much more than a company. I think you would really enjoy researching it more and looking up its history. I'm sure you'll get a lot of comments about this one, but I love your videos!
I would have kept the white tile and just changed the grout color to you new accent color. I believe just painting the walls to tone down the white walls would be nice. I would have used that pull out cupboard for toilet paper storage which takes so much room up. Use a gel stain on your vanity, it can go over any finish.
Absolutely in love with the French Provincial vibes in your bathroom! It's incredible what creativity and a small budget can do. Great job
its totally NOT FRENCH!!!
@@corricattCalm down. She isn’t finished with it. 😂
@@corricatt French influenced then. I think it's fine.
@@KatSut1978 she thinks dark and moody equals French country.. when I see actual French inspired furniture, maybe I'll calm down.. UA-cam influencers think they can change history...
@@corricattthey literally said vibes ..so really calm down 😅
Hi, love your video’s. You style really inspires me. And your video’s are amezing. Fun fact, Delft isn’t a compact but a city in The Netherlands. Delfs blauw (that’s how we say it in The Netherlands) is a color. It is used on tiles, pottery/China and plates. It dates back to the 16th centrury. Love from the Netherlands ❤️
Delft is not a company but a city in The Netherlands. They are so famous for that iconic white/blue tiles that it became a brand name. The color scheme comes from trying to imitate Chinese porcelain and you can situate its heydays from the 17th upwards to the 19th century. 🙂
The tile looks fantastic, and really pretty.
A great tip for peel and stick is to use the paper backing to make templates when doing cuts. Especially in awkward places like the toilet.
Mold or fold the paper into the space, cut it out then place it on to the tile and trace the shape.
I did this years ago in my whole home except the kids bedroom where we kept carpet and it worked amazingly well.
So excited for part 2 🎉🎉🎉
That is such a good tip!!
MaCenna is literally becoming the Bob Vila of her generation. I love watching a woman tackling home improvement projects and renovations like a beast! But then pull it all together with gorgeous feminine details and style. You’re the whole inspiring package, Lady!! So proud of you. ❤
Floor looks beautiful. I'm so surprised you don't like the little blue tiles. They're so French! I love them.
I received my Aurate notification yesterday for your collection and immediately ordered the mini rose garden ring. I can’t wait to receive it, and I’m so happy I can have a piece of your garden while supporting my favorite creator. Much love and congratulations to you, MaCenna!
Omg yay!!!!! That makes me so happy! Thank you so much! I hope you love it!
Hi Macenna, the term Delft tile actually refers to the blue patterning on the tile that originates back to the 16th century. Majority of production occurred in the Netherlands, specifically in the city of Delft (hence its name). Delftware, the distinctive blue patterning, can be found on more than just tile (think pottery, kitchenware etc.) and is a recognized Dutch craft. The pieces can be quite intricate and beautiful!
Hi Macenna! Delft is a city in The Netherlands. It’s famous for its blue and white tiles and pottery that dates for a few centuries. It can be very pricey if you find the antique Delft. I love anything Delft. Has that old world look with a certain coziness.
I like the bars on the bathroom window, you should attach them using a hinge or magnet so you still get to keep them but they still open.
My sweet child!! You are absolutely gifted from God!! What a great video…. When I had my house updated years ago… the guys that did it.. cut my thresholds around the doors short… my doors had big gaps.. what a disaster and disappointment for all the money I put out. I watch you and I cry and are so impressed with your ideas and finished projects!! Love your channel!! I’m 74 now and still have great ideas to change some things that I was disappointed with 25 years ago….. thanks for your inspirations!!!♥️🌹👍
Delftblue is originated from the Netherlands, in a place called Delft where the ceramics are from
Delft is a type of tile, not a company. Delft tiles, which feature blue and white depictions of mythical creatures and agricultural scenes, are iconic in the home design world-and they’ve recently been making a comeback, complete with fresh colors and imaginative portraits. With cottagecore and vintage design styles increasingly popular, today’s designers and homeowners are looking to delft tile to incorporate a historic element into their homes.
Delft is actually a city in the Netherlands. Its where the traditional white and blue earthenware is from!
Macenna! Eye protection, please. You’re usually great about that. But here, those little wire bits on the drill attachment can loosen and fly off. Safety first. Love, love how you plan to transform the bathroom.
USE EYE PROTECTION whenever using a wire brush! My dad got his eye impaled by a wire brush bristle that flew off while using one! Fortunately he was ok but please be careful.
I am so glad you're keeping the blue tiles!!!! They are stunning! I'm only 7mins through but I know it's going to look amazing!
Also, not to be the safety police but it is a good idea to wear respiratory and eye protection when sanding tiles. The dust can be harmful! Love your work ethic and confidence trying new things!
I was hoping someone mentioned this!! Seems like common sense to me when sanding anything
I’d remove the tile baseboard and replace it with pvc baseboard and make the tiles even look more real. A nicer finish too.
Congratulations on the jewelry collaboration! Beautiful pieces. ❤
Thank you so much!!!
I love your jewelry. Just bought some
The mood board pulls it all together with the blue title. Also the odd cupboard in the vanity is probably for towels when you get out of the shower.
The gates on your window do add a layer of security, why not put them on a hinge? You can lock them, but still have quick access to escape.
It was worth it to us to remove the toilet and reseat it after we put down the tile. It made making the cuts around the toilet sooo much easier.
Yeah, was shocked she didn’t do that it would’ve saved so much time 🤣
I know these videos aren’t the major home Reno diy’s that we’ve gotten used to in the past two years but I looove these too! They really have the feel of the OG MaCenna videos and these diys feel more accessible to me ☺️.
The peal and stick tiles look lovely and such an improvement on the flooring. Have you considered covering the tile baseboards with a traditional, wooden baseboard? I think that would really enhance the look you are going for in the bathroom.
Delft blue is a type of traditional Dutch Pottery with blue decorations, that was (is) made in the City of Delft. It was a cheaper alternative to the expensive Chinese porcelain. It depicts everything from daily life sceneries to flowers, but also some really weird things. The tiles are often very old (they originated in the 16th century).
Delft is a city in the Netherlands! Therefore it’s called delft’s blue (those blue and white ceramics tiles and vases)
Please make sure that window with th s bars is alarmed. There is a reason they put those bars on.😊 Texas
If you want to change the color of your chrome hardware, you should try Mohawk classic toner spray in Light golden oak. When sprayed on reflective surfaces, it tints them gold.
(Christine McConnell used it for a small chrome mirror)
I'd either strip the beams in bathroom or paint them a very dark brown. There's a Benjamin Moore paint called "incense stick" (has dark smokey hues with touch violet) that would look great on those beams. Tile on floor looks fabulous.💖
Hi, french viewer here. I think the tiles you look for are "toile de jouy" inspired. There's a youtube channel that might interest you "How to renovate a chateau", that's english speaking (with a bit of french ;P ) and they renovated their kitchen with tiles like these, but they handpainted them. I really think you'd like their content too, it seems up your alley and it's so pretty!
Delft isn't a company it is a type of pottery made in the Netherlands in the city of Delft. It is a blue and white pottery, often with tulips, ships, windmills, etc. True delft is highly prized!!
Loving seeing temporary fixes while you plan for future renovation.❤
Not gonna lie…I really miss the cottage in Texas and the projects there 🥲🥲 I may be the only one
Ugh that jewelry dish in green is everything !!! 😍 how I want to buy new jewelry so badly lol. Also love this bathroom makeover on a budget 🩶🤎🖤
You could use that laundry hamper for rolled towel storage?
I actually love the pull down drawer. It’s most likely for rolled towels.
I dont know if thats an "upgrade" going to peel & stick from tile. But whatever floats your boat.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ It looks so good MaCenna, however, I just die LOL with Kingsley the way your beautiful dog looks at you, paying attention to every word you say, it's just adorable!!!
Well no wonder you were ready for your Paris trip , you created all this content for us and didn’t skip a beat!! Wow just wow 🎉❤
I seriously love love love watching you you’re such an inspiration!!!
Almost 1 million followers so happy for you !!!
I sat down literally just after finishing my checkered marble peel and stick tiles in my entryway, I see that Macenna is doing the same 😅😊❤ I did not have these great options for tiles in my country, I am jealous. It looks gorgeous ❤❤
How that lighter tile lined up so perfectly centred with the toilet is *chefs kiss* The level of detail you put into all your projects is incredibly inspiring!
When we moved in our house, it had put peel and stick tiles in the kitchen and laundry. Over time, the glue like melted and the tiles shifted. Hope yours last longer!
Very impressed with your cutting/measuring skills! Can't wait to see the finished bathroom! It's definitely gonna have charm, and you'll enjoy while waiting to renovate. Congrats on your jewelry launch!
Hi MaCenna! Wow, what a difference the tile has made and I love the colour choice. I would paint the cupboards a very dark navy blue in a satin finish to match the tiny tiles on the wall. Another fab video; thank you so much for sharing. Still loving your channel! ox
MaCenna: "Delft is a company"
the whole city of Delft: "Are we??"
Just what I needed for while I’m sick in bed!
o noo i hope you feel better soon!
exactly this 🤧🫶🏻
Wishing you a speedy recovery! :)
I like that you're embracing this temporary stage and being a bit more bold than you might if it were permanent, it's fun! Can't wait to see how the bathroom turns out!
Gosh, that floor is totally transformative! I love it! Did you know that you can buy grout pens to make the grout between all those white tiles look brand new & super clean? I've used them a lot & they're super easy & quick to use & make such a difference. You can also get them in colours too, not just white. Can't wait for next week x
What brand are those pens, I need them 👌
@@kathrynp7595 I just did an Amazon search for 'Grout Pens' or 'Grout brightening pens' & then just pick whatever is the best deal at the time. They contain an anti-fungicide so work really well in kitchens & bathrooms.
I think you could make the other white tiles work if you would make the grout a dark and warm colour using grout pens !
I am surprised that you didn;t make a mirror out of one of your old picture frames from your collection. Fun to watch you diy again.
Kinsley definitely missed her mama while she was in France, she is so sweet.
I absolutely LOVE that floor!!! It looks so much more elevated now. I’ve always wanted a checkerboard flooring in my future house, this just confirms that notion. It looks sooooo good!!!! Also, congrats on the jewelry collab, the collection looks beautiful.
Kinsley is such a sweet assistant ❤.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the floor!! My husband is framing a back porch mudroom as I type and I’ve been trying to decide on flooring. My husband says no tile, so I was stuck with vinyl. This pattern and peel and stick method will please him and me! I’m going to do this too! It’s perfect!! Thank you for sharing!
Turned out great. I did my kitchen flooring with stick on tiles, holding up great,2 years now.Saved so much money. Good idea MaCenna. ❤
What brand did you use? Thanks!!
@@SoccerDua I used Veelike,marble 12x12.
@@maryowens9179 thanks so much, Mary! :)
I have really been enjoying watching your France vlogs and was curious about how it would influence and inspire your design projects. Looking forward to seeing all of the changes.
You're the most inspiring youtuber in the design realm for me right now. Whenever I need a reminder to follow my gracious heart, which is pretty much everyday as I start a new business, I take a break with you.
you should be able to convert the grate on the window to allow egress by adding a hinge & a latch
Excellent idea!
Was going to get something from your rosegarden collection for my daughter for Christmas until I saw the prices. They are pretty but out of my price range.
Same here, but I kinda guessed they would be since she didn't mentioned pricing at all in the video. So pretty tho.
And i believe it's gold plated unless I've read the description wrong..I don't get why it's so expensive..But they look lovely.
You're right, what the bathroom is lacking is warmth. The inspo pictures you've shown of a similar blue pattern tile you've liked, were more a cream/yellowish white than the cold white of your tiles (at least as it comes across from the video), so adding warmth is definetly the way to go! When you showed your idea with the peel and stick tile I instantly loved it, and it turned out so good already! ❤
Also I think there might be a tool that you can use to press it against an uneven corner/rounded edge (like your toilet) , that then stays in that shape so that you can transfer it on your tile or whatever. I'm sure I saw something like that, but I sadly don't know where and how it was named. But that could be a good Investment if you need to tackle similar projects in your other bathroom, or imperfectly shaped corners of your home ;)
Can't wait to see the next part! :)
What reason were there bars on that window? Are they anywhere else. Could be someone broken in because they are so easy. Rather than removed consider putting on hinge and a lock from inside, so you can get out, but others can’t get in.
Perfect place for a antique dresser turned into a wash basin❤😊😊
So excited to watch this!!! The kitchen turned out so beautifully so can't wait to see what you do with this :)
I used peel and stick tile in my rental for the kitchen. I had horrendous mucky brown vinyl flooring, and the floor is very uneven, but my new blue/cream tiles make such a huge difference! I used double sided carpet tape to help stick them down, so I can remove them when I move out.
You can use Rub -n-Buff to change the color of the metals
These are my favorite types of videos! Updates that are doable and affordable and that pack a big punch. Excited to see it all come together. The floor looks great!
I just wanna say that I love your content, your houses and your style. Your videos are so relaxing for me and I thank you for that. Kisses from Brazil ❤🥰
aww thank you so so much! that makes me so happy
Amazing how much the flooring changed the look of the room so much! Beautiful!
Wow the peel and stick tile looks amazing! I’m loving this project so far. Can’t wait to see the other updates for the bathroom! I’m just in awe of everything you do! 🤍
Delft is a Dutch style of tile usually in blue and white.
I just got my ChrisLovesJulia floor tiles in the mail and can't wait to update mine and my boys' bathroom with them! I'm going for the diamond shape as well since I think it looks more elevated. Can't wait to see the finished project of your bathroom!
Would love to see Romeo's reaction to the flooring too! I LOVE this floor and have been wanting to do peel and stick floor tiles as well so I will definitely be trying this! It looks so good in your home!
MaCenna, yes, go with it! I always wanted to say, since I first saw the empty house tour, this house is not at all built with the french provencial style on mind... the nearly Delft-style tiles, the brick floor, the windows and the white painted beams scream netherlands to me! It seems dutch or west-frisian and I think that's why you have the feeling to integrate those portions of corn-blue ;-) Also, I think in the netherlands they gladly painted beams or even hardwood floors white to escape the moodiness. Long winters, rainy and windy autumns and springs are moody enough, the white lets the light in. You don't need that, obviously, when living in California, but you see this a lot at the north sea coast. I love this direction you're going!!!
Delft is Dutch city and the place of origin of the antique pottery called Delftware. Love the floor.
Macenna the floor looks amazing.I've looked at these for our bathroom you just gave me the confidence to go for it.❤
The floor looks beautiful. A fabulous transformation. 😍
❤ Love the floor, for cutting out the odd shaped tiles these two methods never fail me, one is the cheat board method and the other is the tape method (take some painters tape, tape the entire area of the tile including that odd bit that you need to cut, peel the tape up, place it onto the tile and ta darrrr 👏🏾 you have the exact shape on the tile with the odd shape that you need to cut 😊 no measuring needed
Fun! I was not expecting a diy bathroom episode today - I loved it! The tile turned out so good! I did a herringbone pattern using peel and stick tiles to cover an old linoleum in our tiny bathroom. It’s our only bathroom for my family of 5, so very used! I installed 7 years ago and it’s still holding up so well! I did not use glue (even tho after I started I felt like I should have) but I did grout between. It’s not perfect, but I’m very proud of it! Around the toilet was so challenging! Can’t wait for episode 2!
Love the jewelry but a little expensive for most of us😢
The floor is so pretty! I love that you alternated the colors. I used peel n stick tiles in one of my bathrooms and added grout and it looked great. It’s such an affordable way to make a major transformation!
Gosh I missed Kinsley! So happy your back home so this little lady can bless us with her presence 🥰
Looks so much better. Wow what a difference.
Macenna! These tiles are gorgeous and they look so real! I love the color combo and the bathroom is immediately elevated! How beautiful is to make a house, home! Thank you for your precision, patience and hard work to deliver inspiring videos! Hugs from Australia.
Love the juwels /tray..
And the floor looks stunning!
Great job Macenna!🎉 ❤
Love that you're tackling your bathroom. You're absolutely right you spend so much time in there, make it yours. Can't wait to see it finished.
Congrats on your jewelry collection!!!
