Just subscribed. I am 72 and this is the FIRST video that has made me feel like I can crochet. I really like the up close camera shots. I’m going to try for sure! I love making little projects. Thanks so much for creating your channel!
I really like how it doesnt feel like im getting yelled at by a video and i love the repetition and its really easy for me to comprehend whats actually going on so i understand the instuction a lot better than most other videos
Loved this video I have ADHD and this video is awesome for anyone that has trouble comprehending things I plan on making my boys blankets like my grandma did for me and hopefully they will cherish there’s like I did mine!
Omgosh I’m so glad it helped!!!!! For me I loved making corner to corner blankets! I have a video about it but want to make a more detailed tutorial soon! It’s great. No counting needed you can just relax and crochet :)
Tip: if you need to step away from your project use a stitch marker to hold the current stitch on your hook so you dont have to worry about your hook falling out. I am a history teacher. I teach 3 to 18 year olds on the Outschool platform online. I am a certified carft yarn council level 2 knitting instructor and a ceritifed master knitter. You dont need the certifications, I was bkred over covid lockdowns. I teach knitting and crochet to kids 6 to 18. Pretty much all of my crochet students want to learn so they can make amigurumi. I just wanted to say that you did an excellent job teaching basic crochet. I have also found that the slip knot ans chain are the hardest for new crocheters. I also have my students start with 10 stitcj chain to practice. Great video When I have parents who want to learn as well I will direct them to your video. Your voice is kind and I felt peacefully and happy watching.
hi, i really appreciate how you were super slow and patient teaching and the close ups helped. i've not started yet, bit nervous! my best friend was gonna teach me, but she sadly passed a few months ago very suddenly, and i could not face trying on my own, until now, i think i am ready to make a little something, in honour of my bestie. i am glad i found your channel, looks super.
Omg wow! I’ve always struggled with following directions and tutorials because I always get lost, which I did a bit with this one, but it was also 1am 😅 this helped so much! I actually understood how to do it! I’m so happy!!!
Thank you Holly! I learned how to single crochet in just 2-3 days!!! Now I’m crocheting while watching this video so I could see if I did something wrong but so far everything is correct!!! Thank you so much holly I’ve been wanting to learn how to crochet for a long time now, and I can’t believe I’m here crocheting because of a video, I love your videos Holly and Thanks so much ❤❤
I have never been a visual learner. I have to do it hands on, or my brain cannot comprehend what I'm watching. I have watched multiple tutorials, and couldn't process; until this. THANK YOU! this was very well put together, and explained it all so well. I hope all of your tutorials are like this, so I can learn. Going to watch now 😊
This was such a lovely tutorial and I actually feel like I got the basics down because of it! I really appreciate the close ups and all the simple ways you explain where things should go and look. Thank you so much for teaching me how to crochet!
I wished I saw this video when I started in 2021 😭 I have adhd and this was pretty easy for me to understand. (The only reason I’m watching this is because my friends want to start crocheting and I want to make sure it’s easy for them to understand I’ll definitely add this to the list of videos so they could learn in a better way I’m not very good at explaining I’m more of a visualization kind of teacher) great explaining!
I have never crotcheted in my life, and as a kid I could never comprehend knitting. But I made myself a crappy little square!! I wanna cry, I'm so happy, THANK YOU for your clear instructions 🥲
I fell in love with you after I watched one video on your channel and this is the second one. I just subscribed. You are an amazing teacher and crocheter. It's hard to find someone on UA-cam that is a good teacher and crocheter. I think I have only found two others besides yourself. I have been looking for more. I still love others because they have talent too just in different ways. Crocheting is creative so it is supposed to be unique and have different levels of skills to learn. That's why I love it so much. I myself am a great crocheter but not confident enough to claim I am a good teacher. I've been told by many other people I am a good teacher too. I just don't know myself. I think I have low self esteem and it's painful for me to admit I am any good at anything. It was hard for me to get to the point to admit I am good at crocheting. UA-cam is helping me face my low self esteem and do my best and share my thoughts on channels like yours. I am very grateful for your business and time. UA-cam is hard work because you have to work hard to get enough business to build a better and bigger community. It can take a long time too. For me it's too scary right now. I've been hurt before and I am dealing with PTSD. Maybe someday I will be able to grow my business using UA-cam. 😁☺️❤️🫣 I am working on being free from my anxiety and panic attacks enough to build a UA-cam channel.
I wish that I was at the same stage that you are, with being able to appreciate and acknowledge my talents ( my talents apparently lie in teaching adults, of any age, how to play piano, woodwind or brass instruments that they have 'always wanted to play ) - but I'm not even confident enough to advertise lessons, even though it would make my life a lot better with some extra money 😔. But who knows, perhaps I will be able to finally crochet now!! 😊 Thanks for your honesty xxoo ❤
This helped me so much! I’ve always wanted to crochet the types of things you do, like the pumkins and the temperature blanket, this has really helped me! Thank you Holly! ❤
The short was way too fast this really helps thank you! Also I tried learning how to crochet about a month ago and could not find anything good that was easy to follow. Your shirt was the easiest but it was way too fast. It is great that you made a full long form video, once again thank you. And one more thing, you should make a tutorial how to connect it to other pieces and maybe in one of your tutorials also include how to weave the tail into the project? Thank you so much for you help!
This comment makes me want to cry ahhh I’m literally so excited for you!!!! I absolutely get it, This was me with knitting. It took me multiple tries to stick with it, but now I love knitting as well as crocheting!
The stitch markers as earrings... Adorable idea! Great job with this tutorial. I've seen people give up on crochet and I hope this helps more to get it, since it's an enjoyable (and practical!) hobby. :)
THIS VIDEO REALLY REALLY HELPED ME!!!! This Gurl is “*MY GURL*” from now cuz she’s just too good at teaching this it was the best tutorial till now I’ve seen in UA-cam!!!!! ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
So clear and concise Holly. I’m new here and new to crochet but I have subbed and will be continuing my journey with you, dear one, by my side! Many thanks for all you do and for having such a divinely mellifluous voice! (and I should know, I’m a voice teacher by trade! Smile😊) Here’s to my (now) bright future with my crochet hook! So looking forward to the fun! ❤
Loved and Subscribed! Great and calm video, I'm studying for Dental Hygiene school where I will need to work a lot with my hands and I've decided why not start crocheting! To get some practice with my hands even though I know they are two different professions, I know crocheting will help me in the long run for my career and a fun new hobby to learn so I can teach my daughter in the years to come ! Can't wait to start this journey !! Thanks Holly for your videos
Im young (not saying my age) and i want to learn how to chrocetthis helped so much i am goingbto make small animals to start because i learned that if you have adhd or a small attention span its best to start with animals ❤ love your vids thx for readin❤
I am only a young person but i learnt this when i was 8 years old! You were the one who inspired me to crochet because before I never believed in myself. I am so glad you created your channel! Please keep it up!😁😁😁
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! No words can describe how HAPPY i am and how GRATEFUL i am for finding this video. I’ve watched 12 videos and cried 5 times trying to crochet. FINALLY a video that makes sense!!! I saw a different video that I watched that was too fast and made no sense. I didn’t even know how to tie a slip knot after that video. A few weeks ago, i got really interested into crocheting. I bought a set, but the instructions didn’t make sense. I started watching videos, but that didn’t help either. Thank you for this video. I’m subscribing on all the devices in my house!!
Waooooooo I learned how to do the ending and how to go back. I realized I was doing it wrong and that's why the sides didn't look the same. I am aware that the way you handle the needle is okay either way, as a pencil or a cutting knife. I prefer as a cutting knife. I love the way you explain because you repeat and zoom on the area you are working on which les us see exactly how you do it. 😊❤ Thankyou love it
Oooo excited to see! I’m definitely not a beginner but I love watching tutorials to see if there’s any special difference or tips on how others do their basics. Sometimes it’s seeing a different slip knot other times it’s seeing how people feed tension ❤
RIGHT!? I LOVE watching tutorials and I've been crocheting for 20 years. My Ganny taught me when I was a kid and I love seeing all of the different techniques and getting to pass hers on
Heeey, I would love to say thank you very much, I started today and I watched you video until the end, while pausing to do at the same time as you, and I got the hang of it, really quick!! For this project! Thank you for your time and patience while explaining everything 🙇🏽♀️🫶🏽🩷
This is the only video that has really helped me. I want to learn because my grandmother told me that she would teach me, but unfortunately she passed away before she could teach me. However, she gave me all her crochet things. I didn't want to give up. So your video was very helpful, thank you very much.❤
I just completed my first project (technically just a swatch but I count it) because of your video. I had been trying and was looking at tutorials for weeks and I'm so happy I came across your videos because I was lost before!
Thank you so much I have trouble learning stuff I tried to make a blanket for my daughter while I was pregnant two years ago but I couldn’t understand the many videos I seen but u really helped me
I started learning to crochet when i was 13 and was too easily frustrated to learn without getting absolutely pissed off. My biggest problem was i did my stitches too tight and alwas forget to chain over At 23, 10 years later, I decided to pick it up again and wanted to relearn the little information I knew and this video has been WONDERFUL. Your peaceful calming demeanor and soft voice really have helped as I'm still prone to be quickly agitated. And with your excellent tips I am well on my way to crocheting a blanket for my 3 year old!! Thank you so much!!!
Loved it.. you actually talked about tight and loose chain at start of project which I was struggling with and didn’t find any proper explanation on other videos.. you really made me feel it’s okay.. it will come as I practice and it’s not the problem only I am facing 😅 also it’s was super easy to understand the chains and loops. Thanks for the tutorial 😊❤
Thank you for this video !🩷 Please please please make more crochet tutorials for beginners🥹 I so badly want to make something but I've never crochet in my life, please make a full tutorial of crochet something maybe like a coaster, granny square, and how do you use different coloured yarn etc.🩷 Please please please, your video was the only video I could find that makes sense and easy to follow. I'm struggling, I have ADHD🥹🌷❤️🫶🏻
Holly Anna thank you so much I have been wanting to learn how to crochet and you helped me so much. This tutorial is my fav thank you soo much for helping me ❤❤
i love this idea! I really dont use many patterns I more do free form crochet but I'd love to do some tutorials on free form crochet and how i've made projects :)
This helped so much I couldn’t even like do anything I could just make a really long chain but now I can do a lot more than what I could do before thank you so much😊 10:58
This was an awesome tutorial! I love your teaching style sooo much and appreciate your calm and repetitiveness. Very soothing whilst trying to learn something new. I really want to make a crotchet little animal. Any kind to be honest, the easier the better. I’d love if that could be one of your videos?? I’ve always wanted to get into crocheting but it’s the little aumiguries that really caught my interest and pushed me to get started.
Awe thanks for the kind comment! I’m planning on making a how to crochet plushies for beginners tutorial. Not exactly teaching you how to make a specific one but teaching you techniques you need to create whatever shapes and sizes you want for plushies like how to make arms and heads and ears lol I think it’ll be fun
Tysm i loove this and im gonna tell my mom if i can get any of this from Amazon because this is my dream and if i get it i will try and make a blanket with this❤️💗🫶😊
wow this is the best video that i under stand and its not going so fast you have so much patience and im going to subscribe because you make such good videos
Your voice and manner of instructing are both so soothing and effective! Well done, Miss Holly Auna! I’m curious, did the temperature blanket get completed? Is it ginormous and warm? I’m excited for an update! 😉 thank you! Hugs from Ohio - Lisa ☺️🫶🏻☺️
Awe thank you so so much!!! :) The temp blanket isn't done yet BUT I'm starting a new live series called "Monday Crochet" where every Monday we crochet together on live stream until the temperature blanket is done! I hope you can make it :) ua-cam.com/video/8pBwQlJBJH0/v-deo.html
OMG Holly i cannot thank you enough for this video! For the past year crocheting has failed so much for me and now i realised where i went wrong! But quick question, does the thickness of the yarn matter, bcoz the one i use is kinda thin but not that thin if you get what i mean 😄
Thanks for this I always wanted to crochet my mom does and she makes bags, scarves, and beanies but mostly bags I’m 9 turning ten in November and I wanna start now so then I will know to do this forever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤(btw love the chain marker earrings)
So i have been having issues making a second row it always seem to be difficult also i do have issues with my yarn spilting all the time so far ive one done what your friend Scott did and honestly i really dont want to givw up i know im going to get it eventually. However i have got very frustrated because of not being about to single crochet yet. This is very helpful
This was super helpful. I really want to make beanies for my kids. I didnt see a tutorial on your playlists for that, but I'd love to see one in the future. ❤
I’ve never crocheted before and I’ve begged my mom, grandma, and aunt to teach me but they never did so I finally took it into my own hands (already really excited after looking at some patterns) The main thing I’m wondering though is how do you find the size of already opened crochet hooks?
So I’m currently making a scarf for my boyfriend as my first ever project. Let me tell you that it was a MESS starting out. The starter kit I bought off Amazon came with all #2 yarn which was horrendous to start out with. But now I’m rocking #4 yarn and I think I can chain pretty well (Still working on getting even tension) Here’s my issue - in the video, you state to make the foundation chain as long as you want the project. So for a scarf, really long. But I thought the length of the chain was going to be the width of the scarf? For example, I’m doing Gryffindor colors: Red and gold. I want each color stripe to be maybe 3-4 fingers thick/long. Wouldn’t I crochet from one end of the scarf to the other instead of top to bottom?
Yes, you would unless you want to do top to bottom. To do top to bottom you would make the width instead of the length while doing side to side you would chain the length you’d like and single crochet til it is the width you like 😊
Just subscribed. I am 72 and this is the FIRST video that has made me feel like I can crochet. I really like the up close camera shots. I’m going to try for sure! I love making little projects. Thanks so much for creating your channel!
Good luck on your crocheting journey!!
Omgosh this comment made my week ❤ how’s crocheting going!?

i have ADHD too ❤❤❤❤❤
Now everyone have ADHD why????
Is that a trend or something?
@@HollyAuna 4:17 Can you make a video of the chain I don’t get it at all.
Have you got loads of work in progress projects 😉
Tip: if you need to step away from your project use a stitch marker to hold the current stitch on your hook so you dont have to worry about your hook falling out.

OMG Holly i cannot thank you enough for this video! For the past year crocheting has failed so much for me and now i realised where i went wrong! But quick question, does the thickness of the yarn matter, bcoz the one i use is kinda thin but not that thin if you get what i mean 😄
EXCELLENT video!!!
Thx you soo much this is very helpful

As a 1k ur old this is the hardest tutorial I have ever seen on crocheting
I’m going to try crochet again I’m going to go and get some hooks like yours.
So i have been having issues making a second row it always seem to be difficult also i do have issues with my yarn spilting all the time so far ive one done what your friend Scott did and honestly i really dont want to givw up i know im going to get it eventually. However i have got very frustrated because of not being about to single crochet yet. This is very helpful
this helps so much thank you
❤this is so helpful😭😭 thank you so much 🤧🤧🦋🦋🦋🦋💃
This was super helpful. I really want to make beanies for my kids. I didnt see a tutorial on your playlists for that, but I'd love to see one in the future. ❤
Yes I have a beanie tutorial planned for the next few weeks :)
Thank you i bought a starter kit ready to start a new hobby but I couldn't understand thank you
I’ve never crocheted before and I’ve begged my mom, grandma, and aunt to teach me but they never did so I finally took it into my own hands (already really excited after looking at some patterns)
The main thing I’m wondering though is how do you find the size of already opened crochet hooks?
AAAh tysm it helped so much i am so happy i already did one square i want to make a bag tysmmmmmmm😭
Very helpful! Thanks 🎉
Yay!
Okay I love this but I’m having trouble combining the slip knot and the holding your yarn. I’m very lost lol but this has been very informative
same
@@heartsforlily I got it figured out!
@@heartsforlily still can’t chain stitch tho T_T
For chaining you have to get your hook on the slip knot then yarn over, then pull through the slip knot
@@sophiaprentiss3780 ok thank you! I’ll try it :)
So I’m currently making a scarf for my boyfriend as my first ever project. Let me tell you that it was a MESS starting out. The starter kit I bought off Amazon came with all #2 yarn which was horrendous to start out with. But now I’m rocking #4 yarn and I think I can chain pretty well (Still working on getting even tension)
Here’s my issue - in the video, you state to make the foundation chain as long as you want the project.
To do top to bottom you would make the width instead of the length while doing side to side you would chain the length you’d like and single crochet til it is the width you like 😊
Her voice is so calming 😭
This was really helpful tysm 😊
Thanks!
Omgosh thank YOU! 😍🌻
