If you used a really bulky yarn like the one for a 25mm hook could you just use your hands and I'm getting the medium bulky yarn and making little octopus
Hey i want to thank you after watching this i finally started being able able to crochet and not just on a line but im so happy and it had alot to do with the yarn 😊
My first crochet project was one of those TikTok bees. Easy right? No. I bought some *fluffy* bulky yarn, in yellow and black ;-; I swear, i felt blind when crocheting with the black yarn 😭
@@earth- Honestly if you can learn to crochet by feel you can do it by sight later 😂 it’s like learning to draw blindfolded and then being able to see.
tip: if you're planning on making amigurumi/plushies, pick up a crochet hook that is 1-2 mm smaller than the recommended side for the yarn. this helps to keep your stitches small and tight so that there are less large holes in the project for the stuffing to show through. do keep in mind that going 2mm below recommended size can sometimes make it much more fiddly to work with, so as a beginner a 1mm decrease in hook size is probably more ideal :)
I agree with this whole heartedly! I made a turtle with Bernat yarn in size 6 with an 8 mm hook (the recommended size) and it had more gaps then I wanted. I switched to a 6.50mm and I was much more comfortable with that!
Great video! I started in November and my preferences so far: -I hate plastic needles, steel is better -Amore Crochet hooks are the best ergonomics; flex those JoAnn coupons and it’s less expensive -Stitch markers are a life saver -DO NOT start with dark colored yarns even though they are your aesthetic, choose neutrals if you’re allergic to bright colors -be patient and do one project at the time -do something you’re excited about (I went crazy and did a patchwork cardigan) -master the basic stitches first -experiment with texture, cotton has a learning curve but it’s achievable I’ve always wanted to learn, so I’m self taught; pretty jelly of those who had grandparents teaching you, cherish them!
Hello! I am currently obsessed with how cute crocheting is and I have planned to start... (I didn't yet buy the yarn).. I have been planning to start with the patchwork cardigan because it is tooo aestheticcc!!! But since I found you who's first project was the same thing as which I was planning to make, I have just a few question... Is crocheting a patchwork cardigan too hard as a first project of a complete dumbass who didn't crochet before and just knows some basic stitches like chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet etc??? I just wanna make sure I don't mess up big time lol 😅...
FOR BEGINNERS. I’ve never bought stitch markers in my life. They are incredibly useful and a MUST for when your crochet but I use Bobby pins instead and they work just fine, so if you don’t wanna spend too much money, Bobby pins are for you
I use left over yarn, or I cut a piece of yarn from the other end of the ball and use that string of yarn and its great because your don't loose it and when I'm done I just pull it out
@@Karina-jm2oeI've done this in a pinch too. Actually I prefer using pieces of wool as stitch holders. I find I loose my stitches often with the plastic/metal stitch holders, so I take some waste wool and thread it through my stitches and then tie both ends together. ❤
I cannot say how much I appreciate you blurring people out in the background, as someone who has been caught in videos without my consent, I seriously wish more people did that as common courtesy
My tips for beginning resources: - Yes, medium to bulkier yarn is great especially for learning so that the stitches are visible and easy to maneuver. - Preferably i'd suggest a "chainette construction" yarn, which has its "threads" interwoven instead of twisted together so that its not likely to splice while you work with it, causing frustrations. - Yarn light in color is really nice for visibility of said stitches. - Avoid plushy, fuzzy or velvet-y yarn, theyre known to have the fuzz rip off of the thread its on, making it harder to weave in ends, and quite slippery to work with. - And lastly i'd suggest a plastic hook since atleast for me personally it was a smoother experience to learn with than metal, for its lack of grip on certain yarns.
My pro-tip is that the anti-pilling yarns are super easy to work with for beginners because something about the way they’re made makes it so you don’t get little bits and bobs in the way that make it harder to see, and it’s almost impossible to split stitches. Also, start with a crochet hook with a rounded tip. Personally, I prefer an inline hook with a point for regular use, but for beginners the hooks with rounded ends are so much easier for picking up stitches and not splitting them :)
iv been crocheting for 3 years now and I'm still learning new things about it. i thinks that's the best part about crotchet there's so much to learn that you can never get boarded
I am a beginner crocheter but a fast learner and I have learned how to make Amigurumi chunky Dino’s and have started to sell them around school and Bernat blanket yarn is literally ALL I use it is SO easy to work with and personally I think it’s great for beginners because it doesn’t fall apart as much and if you make mistakes you can easily redo it. Definitely recommend Bernat Blanket yarn Baby and regular.
@@Jellybeansatdusk it’s my own pattern I made in January, I don’t really want to give away the pattern though because I make some money off of it, but there are a lot of other adorable Dino patterns online and on Etsy as well!
i just started crocheting this year because of my grandma!! it really makes me feel connected to her in some type of way! my first project was also a bag for my moms birthday so it was really emotional for both of us
Same here, my grandmother taught me how to crochet years ago and I just started back at it about a year ago and it really does make you feel so connected to them . I miss mine so much ❤
I loved your tip about choosing a yarn that you love the feel/look of. That's my biggest joy in crochet is shopping through all the textures and colors. Being excited about a project and its materials/tools is what will keep you invested, so you'll actually finish it! lol
I’m not even a beginner but your enthusiasm makes this video entertaining basically what I’m trying to say is that you seem really sweet and a positive person, makes me happy to see someone else being all happy and smiley
i am currently working on crocheting a small shoulder bag to put small things like chapstick, keys, airpods, ect. and it is actually the first ever thing i will be able to complete😂 this video will really help me to know what do buy for my next project
i very recently started crocheting (which is to say, about five hours ago) and i had looked up some tips and tricks and stuff and i can say that these all make a lot of sense. i’m using a 3mm hook and yarn for that size, so a bit on the small side, but it’s working pretty fine. right now i’m making tiny little scarves for stuffed animals. i can imagine this is gonna be a new hyperfixation for me… wish me luck!!
I have severe anxiety so learning to crochet has been super helpful and I’m actually motivated to learn everything ‼️I eventually want to learn to crochet clothes ,blankets ,hats , etc your videos are very informative and helpful
Aw, this was adorable! I have several comments on this: 1. I love how passionate and smiley you are! I've recently gotten into crochet and watched this to make sure I was easing into it as well as I could, and your good mood really hit home; crochet really is such a calming, rewarding craft. 2. My mind BOGGLES at how huge your (I'm guessing USA) yarn shops! There's so much variety it's crazy! 3. In terms of my favourite yarn, I'd say size 4. I got a kit of many small bundles of yarn with all of the basic colours and some variations, because I mainly started with amigurumi, and they are all size 4. On top of that, the vast majority of the yarn I had bought for knitting was also size 4, and so that's the standard size that I use, which is nice because I think it's the one I find most often in shops. All in all, this video was really cute, informative, and nice to watch. I decided to watch this while crocheting my second fingerless lace glove, and it made me smile throughout :)
I JUST finished my first ever crochet project - a bulky blanket! I’m obsessed and have plenty of yarn to make a baby blanket! This video was SUPER helpful to give me some more guidance. You’re such a gem and absolute sweetheart! ❤ (love those earrings too!!)
Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful! I am just starting my journey to crocheting, and I want to make a blanket! I am going to make a temperature blanket for this year. Definitely, watching your videos has made crocheting look super easy and less overwhelming! Thanks for being you!
I've been trying to learn crochet for a week now and i was totally confused, but your video made everything clear ! Thank you so much for explaining everything, we can see at your smile that it really makes you happy.
I picked up crochet as a covid hobby and I FELL IN LOVE! It was a way to feel grounded in a time when the world felt like it was going to end. I had a lot of personal stuff happening in my life as well and this was a way to let the thoughts in my head speak and then let them go. I lost my aunt suddenly in November of 2019 and she loved crocheting doilies so this was a way to feel closer to her. I thought doilies would be my first project but I think it was actually a scrap yarn basket or a crappy black scarf with acrylic yarn. Then I moved on to the Harry Styles-inspired sweater which I have never finished. Now I am making three temperature blankets which you inspired me to do and I am learning how to make money selling my craft. I am currently working on a sunflower granny square tote bag and a mushroom tote bag. I love this community and the endless possibilities. If you all need a grounding hobby or something to give your hands something to do I highly recommend this instead of knitting since crocheting is much easier to pick up.

I am finally at the stage of getting all the wool at the start of my blanket and the colors depending on what is available and how I am feeling and I love that the finish product is given to a charity that is for sale in the shop for them to be able to do what they need to redcross have 3 blanket so far this year and I made my first pink one and I name them as well it's not a part of the rebuilding of the town I live in a different way to make a difference in a way that it is very much appreciated by the people involved and I love that the right person finds it
I’m 12 years old and I’ve been crocheting for the past year and a half I don’t have that much skill I only made a blanket, bucket hat, book marks, headbands, scrunchies, and I’m currently working on a patchwork blanket. The reason I’ve been crocheting though is that I have really bad anxiety and crocheting just calms me down and also I’m really interested in it I’ve always been fascinated by the fact that I can make my own clothing or toys and such
My granddaughter is your age and also had bad anxiety but thank God she is doing so much better now. She is active in school and has friends that do things with her and family that make her feel safe. You’re going to be ok you’ll see! 😍👍🏽🙏🏼
I’m 22 and I just started crocheting and it helps a lot with my anxiety too! I’m to focused on what I’m doing to worry lol. I love giving handmade gifts so it works out great! Currently making a cat ear beanie for my mom and grandma for Mother’s Day. Good luck on your journey with your anxiety, it’ll get better!
Ive kinda wamted to learn for years, finnaly kept getting targeted ads on Instagram for a site called The Woobles, decided to rgive it a shot and ordered 2 amigurumi kits, a narwhal amd a unicorn. Fell in love with it immediately. Finished both within 4 days. Already have more kits on the way.
i just bought my first crochet supplies, i’m anxious to start my first project!! my grandma passed in 2019 from cancer and she was always crocheting. she made me this HUGE, colorful blanket and spent hours on it even when she was very sick and couldn’t even stand. i love her a lot and i want to honor her by crocheting like she did. 🫶🫶
For a few months i couldn't figure out what hook to use and how to get the right one for my yarn, and other beginner problems, but now that i came across this video, i found exactly what i needed! Thank you so much for this video.
OMG i have exactly the same bulky yarn and im sooooooooo happy to know as beginner that that bulky yarn is good you saved my life tysm for doing this video
I’m a 9 year old learning how to crochet. Technically, my first project was an amigurimi dinosaur kit that came with tutorials . What I consider to be my first project is this lavender scarf with kinda bulky yarn. I’m now starting a crochet business because you taught me how to crochet.❤ (Edit)not doing a business anymore but I’m still happy you taught me.
i’m learning from scratch and personally i’ve found chunky large yarns to be really fun to use! probably not for everyone, but i love the colorplay and dreamspun colors by yarnbee
when i first TRIED to start crocheting i got a thin yarn that fell apart like crazy it was a nightmare lol- the second time i picked it up i got bernat blanket yarn and it worked so much better for me! ive been crocheting since november and its been amazing
Thank you so much for this!! I've been seeing soo many crochet tiktoks and what they make is adorable, so I wanted to try it out myself! And this really helped because I was a bit confused on what I should do first so this was very helpful!
Thank you! Just started a few days ago and you showing the big size yarn makes me confident to get some for myself. I bought a 50g yarn and I couldn't even finish the headband that I wanted to make so I settled with only 4 rows. I am gonna buy everything you recommended coz they all make sense! Thanks! And I am jelly with people who had grandparents teaching them. I am gonna teach my kids.
I loooooove how fast you talk! A lot of the other crochet channels talk so slow, which I'm not a fan of. Your energy helps me concentrate, and I love it.
My first project was a round scarf. The fun part is that I switcht to a bigger hook, and it widened the scarf. It is perfect because it fits perfectly around the shoulders and gets smaller around the face. Now I am making a Christmas tree 🎄, because I would love to put a self made project with the Christmas cards as an extra gift
I am in my early 30s and it took me 3 different stages in life to be reintroduced to crochet and really finally GET it. it takes time and patience. If you get stumped by something and want to give up, set it aside, find a small joyful quick project to substitute for the time being. last year i got back into crochet by making holiday ornaments. I LOVE this other youtubers patterns for their mini beanie, mitten, and stocking ornaments. I had made their full size beanie pattern, and came across the mini ornament version. It took me my grandma, my (left-handed) best friend, and countless youtube videos and free patterns to get here, so here I am, 32 years old, now designing/writing my own patterns!
In fact, I've been crocheting since I saw one of your videos on TikTok last year. The first project I did was a nice yellow and pink scarf. Thank you for the positive energy you give us🥺🥺💗💗
My 11 year old wants to be an artist of sort. She isn't sure of the exact art bc she likes a variety of styles. So I was thinking about getting her into crocheting to start. This was helpful for maybe a Christmas gift start up.
As someone who had tried to teach myself how to crochet several times in the past and was finally successful after many tries that resulting in giving up for months or years at a time, I strongly suggest finding a single ply yarn. One of the ones that looks more like a cord than a "yarn" as it will allow you to learn the feel of getting things in the right place, without accidentally grabbing part of the yarn all of the time. Once I worked with one like that for a while, I was able to go to the super cheap yarn that everyone seems to recommend and actually have success, but before doing that, every time I tried with cheap twisted yard, I was constantly grabbing the wrong stuff and splitting my yarn and just getting super frustrated and then walking away again.
I started crocheting with Jumbo yarn but it was with my fingers. I probably would've given up if I had to use the hook size. When I started making more projects I moved down to level 4 medium yarn with a 5mm hook and I loved it. Definitely wish I saw this video before starting to crochet :)
Excellent video. Makes me wish I had UA-cam back when I was ten and grandma was teaching me to crochet. But since there was no internet or even home computers back in the dark ages, it’s nothing but a wish. Your happy demeanor and encouraging style is infectious (in a good way, not in a Covid way!)
I have a really hard time understanding where to put my hook through for double crochet etc. I noticed that chunky yarn makes it a little easier for me, I'm a complete beginner so counting stitches and such is still very difficult but I finally managed to crochet a tiny little heart yesterday so I'm really happy with myself!
what i recommend for beginners are the woobles beginner yarn! it does not have to be woobles! there are companies online that sell it for cheaper. it helps you see your stitches and it used a decently sized hook for every beginner! it’s mainly preferred if you are starting with plushies, but it’s amazing!
I started crocheting a week ago, and I was really struggling on the sizes of hook and yarn to get. Thank you for making this video it really helped me!
I swear this helps me so much,I just started crocheting yesterday and I’ve been failing miserably so hearing and seeing this makes me feel way much better now that I know what to get and what not to get so thanks for this😀
Hey! I've been crocheting for a few months now and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video, I really recommend this video to everyone who wants to crochet and this really helped me to not spend too much money when i was learning crochet💕💗💌💌
Thank you so much for this video. I was planning to start crocheting as I have anxiety disorder and issues with concentration. So I was searching for some time what all things I should buy to start my crochet journey. After watching this I got myself crochet tools and yarn.. I'm gonna try a baby blanket first. I will tell you how it went after I complete that one.. ❤
I’ve been crocheting for about 2 weeks or more and I recently am learning a single crochet stitch and I bought a bunch of yarn & hooks I didn’t need so I’ll follow this guy whenever I need help thank you Holly💗
This was So helpful thank you holly you make me so happy when I watch your videos and you make what to buy or an tutorial so clear! You make it so clear I wrote SO MANY notes about everything! Thank you so much your amazing
As a relatively new person crocheting bulky fluffy yarn is my FAVORITE! Yeah it's a little tricky to see your stitches but it's super easy to hook on to unlike thinner yarn. Thick yarn ftw💖 ALSO I recommend using a hook size that's smaller than the recommended size 💀 if it says to use a 5.0 mm hook I usually use a 4.0 just because I find it easier to use that way. Anyways hope that my goofy tips help I've only been crocheting for about a year 😅
I started crocheting about ... eight months ago, and I've made a couple amigurumi dragons, some frogs ... Even after having already started this video was super helpful! I didn't know stitch counters existed and OH MY GOSH I am going to have to buy one. Literally every time I crochet I think to myself "How great would it be to have something to count for me?" AND IT EXISTS! Thanks so much for this!
If you don’t want to spend the money on row markers you can actually use yarn! Just weave the yarn through the stitch! You can also use safety pins! I do recommend a physical plastic stitch marker though that’s made for marking yarn
SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL! I just started crocheting literally last night and I've been using this Amazon yarn (WHICH IS TERRIBLE I MAY ADD). I was watching your video on how to single crochet which brought me here and now i understand that the texture of this Amazon yarn is exactly why I couldn't get a continous flow with the single crochet. Thank you for sharing these tips and recommendations!
I would recommend to start with a bright acrylic yarn that is medium 4 not black it’s hard to see and same with plush yarn Al fluffy bc you CANNOT see the stitches my granny has crocheted for about 45 years and is fast and can’t use fluffy yarn ❤️
I remember watching this video and feeling a bit overwhelmed so I watched some clips to help me intake less information. I come back now 6 months later and pretty well versed in crochet and think wow this is so simple the craft is just overwhelming xD. I love this video its a very good starting point!
Also recommend staying away from non-worsted yarn and bamboo yarn the first because as was said the hook has a higher chance of splitting the yarn and bamboo yarn tends to be more slippery so it is hard to tension.
I love your energy! I recently got into macrame, made some bags and wanted to try new things. I have never crocheted in my entire life but I will try to crochet a cardigan! Hopefully wear it in autumn. this inspired me so much!! thank you :)
I just started my journey not too long ago. I've done a couple small ones such as a bookmark and a little flag of one color keychain thing. Right now I'm working on an aftkin and it's so far going good and I'm excited to continue and learn more
I actually found blanket yarn super comforting to work with. I once made a fox for a baby and I didn't enjoy doing it because it wasn't the yarn I was comfortable using but I ran out of time to find orange blanket yarn. I would say yo try different yarn types and find out which one is the most comfortable for you! ❤ have fun beginner crocheters!
My mom taught me how to crochet when I was 10 and I've loved to make small things and this year I made my first blanket, my first bag, and my first piece of clothing and I'm 14 it's super easy when you get the hang of it even if its discouraging at the beginning, just a message to any new crocheters:)
I tried learning to crochet a couple of years ago on medium yarn and I hated it, I didn't understand what I was doing and I gave up. My sister-in-law started crocheting again 2 weeks ago and I decided I wanted to get into it too. I found a beautiful chunky rainbow yarn and I made my 1st crochet project. It's a terribly made, completely single-crochet bag I winged and didn't use a pattern for but I am still super proud of it. I am now working on my 2nd project, a hat. It has a pattern and I learned how to half-double-crochet. Im so excited
Omg I started crocheting recently and my brother just came up to me and said “sophie can you teach me how to crochet?” It’s the cutest thing he has ever said🥹
I have been taking constant breaks so I don’t get frustrated and I have seen a bunch of your UA-cam shorts and I am going through a lot of your videos thank you so much u have been really helpful
Omg thank you. I just kind of threw myself at the mercy of the crochet gods and have gotten the hang of it but now my neice has been wanting to learn so this Christmas I'm making her a starter kit. Now I know what to put in it 😍
I love watching your content, i would love to sent you a picture of the Frog, Scruncie, And a bear beanie. I am now working on a baby blanket for my niece on the way!!!
I'm so exitecied. My first experience was making a hat with a hoop, but that was years ago, and recently, I have gotten into crocheting. I made an octopus with a hat, 5 bunnies, a jar bag, a panda, and most recently, a homemade doll. I'm still learning, but your videos are a big help.
I started in March. •clover hooks. I’ll never look back. •the metal type darning needles from clover are also amazing to weave in ends even with bulky yarn.
I’ve been wanting to get into crocheting for a while now and you are just so encouraging!! Thank you for this, I look forward to beginning my crochet journey(:
Hi I'm just starting to learn how to crochet and I'm so excited!! I'm going to crochet a blanket for my first thing and I can't wait. Thank for the tips.
As a beginner crocheter who started 3 months ago, I completely agree with the bulky yarn! It’s what I learnt with, but I would definitely say that you need an 8mm hook to use it. I tried with a 6mm and had blisters all over my hands, so make sure your hook is right for the yarn :).
Holly, this video helped me in so many different ways, your such a good crochet explainer i was super confused on all the other tuts on UA-cam. But you really helped me on this! I tried a purple Dino project and thanks to u i was able to succeed at my project! you re such a lovely person thank you so much!🥰🥰🥰
My grandma tried to teach me when I was younger, but I couldn't figure out the tension so I gave up. My other grandma taught me to knit at the time but I gradually stopped knitting and she then gave me a book on crocheting! I made a beanie as my first project, then arm warmers and most recently a market bag! Currently I'm working on a Granny Hexagon Cardigan (I've only been crocheting for maybe a month at most and I'm so happy with how far I've come already! :)
my very first project was a throw blanket that i used my fingers to crochet but my first actual project with a hook is a granny square bag with stars :)) Im making the straps rn and im so excited for it to be done
I used to crochet but i lost all my tention and my skills im also 11 yrs old and ive made cat ear bienies arm and leg warmets and much more thank you so much for the help bye
I learned how to crochet two years ago but i am just now starting a proper project! I am making a top and I even figured out how to do that cool mesh stitch! Im also using a cake yarn thats a really pretty pink, white and grey!!! ❤
more then a week ago i finished my very first jumper, no pattern to follow, just all from what would make sense to me. and surprisingly it turned out great. it's a gift for my boyfriend who visited me last weekend and was able to give it to him. he was fitting it here and it fits him nicely. yes i made it without pattern which i should've done, so loads of places where it was kinda off. but he was able to put it on and officially worn it yesterday and he really likes it luckily. it was made from medium yarn in black and red with a 5mm hook
I learnt the basics when I was a little girl, now at 57 I started with amigurumi and a blanket. I have found it easier to have 1 big project I can do in front of the TV and some small projects I can do whenever I want to. My blanket is just 1 huge granny square and I am making it for our queen-sized bed.
This vid is so helpful i used to crochet with my great grandma from around 4-9 wen her health started to decline im 13 now and lost her last Christmas just found a blanket she crocheted and decided to start again❤

I can confirm that i am a beginner and grabbed dark yarn and messed it up 😢
If you used a really bulky yarn like the one for a 25mm hook could you just use your hands and I'm getting the medium bulky yarn and making little octopus
@@AshleyHansen-f1p yeah it’s best for a beginner not to use black or dark yarn as it’s harder to see stitches

Hey i want to thank you after watching this i finally started being able able to crochet and not just on a line but im so happy and it had alot to do with the yarn 😊
Another tip is to start with a lighter color yarn. It’s harder to see where you need to put your hook with the darker colors. Happy crocheting!
Great tip thanks!!!!!!! 😍😍😍

@@Jellybeansatdusk True true 😂
That is an important tip. Black and navy especially can be very hard to see unless you have great lighting and good eyesight.
tip: if you're planning on making amigurumi/plushies, pick up a crochet hook that is 1-2 mm smaller than the recommended side for the yarn. this helps to keep your stitches small and tight so that there are less large holes in the project for the stuffing to show through. do keep in mind that going 2mm below recommended size can sometimes make it much more fiddly to work with, so as a beginner a 1mm decrease in hook size is probably more ideal :)
As an amigurumi beginner, I accidentally bought a hook 2mm smaller then recommended and it is actually a lot easier, thanks
I'm happy you said this because I wanna start making plushies and this will help me

Great video! I started in November and my preferences so far:
-I hate plastic needles, steel is better
-Amore Crochet hooks are the best ergonomics; flex those JoAnn coupons and it’s less expensive
-Stitch markers are a life saver
-DO NOT start with dark colored yarns even though they are your aesthetic, choose neutrals if you’re allergic to bright colors
-be patient and do one project at the time
-do something you’re excited about (I went crazy and did a patchwork cardigan)
-master the basic stitches first
-experiment with texture, cotton has a learning curve but it’s achievable
I’ve always wanted to learn, so I’m self taught; pretty jelly of those who had grandparents teaching you, cherish them!

Absolutely
And when your children learn from you they'll have that same experience! It's a gift passed down actually ❤
I went crazy part was real 💀👍🏻

I have been planning to start with the patchwork cardigan because it is tooo aestheticcc!!! FOR BEGINNERS. I’ve never bought stitch markers in my life. They are incredibly useful and a MUST for when your crochet but I use Bobby pins instead and they work just fine, so if you don’t wanna spend too much money, Bobby pins are for you
I use left over yarn, or I cut a piece of yarn from the other end of the ball and use that string of yarn and its great because your don't loose it and when I'm done I just pull it out
Yes I use safety pins (Bobby pins in the US) all the time. If you use small ones they don't get in the way as you're trying to work ❤
@@Karina-jm2oeI've done this in a pinch too. Actually I prefer using pieces of wool as stitch holders. I find I loose my stitches often with the plastic/metal stitch holders, so I take some waste wool and thread it through my stitches and then tie both ends together. ❤
paperclips and safety pins are way better than stitch markers because they are durable and are objects you could find lying around your house.
ive made mine from bending paper clips lol
I cannot say how much I appreciate you blurring people out in the background, as someone who has been caught in videos without my consent, I seriously wish more people did that as common courtesy
My tips for beginning resources:
- Yes, medium to bulkier yarn is great especially for learning so that the stitches are visible and easy to maneuver.
Thank you for sharing!!! 💖🥰
Yup, I have yarn that keeps splitting and it's so frustrating, I'm a beginner so I was thinking that the yarn was just cheap or something
iv been crocheting for 3 years now and I'm still learning new things about it. i thinks that's the best part about crotchet there's so much to learn that you can never get boarded
Right!!! There’s so much more to learn I just learned a new stitch last night!
This is a hobby that never gets boring ✨
Any tips on learning to crochet? I have been wanting to learn how to crochet for yeeeeeeearrrrrrrrss! 😢
Ya agree 😀
Forever learning ❤ Crochet is a wonderful hobby with such depth ❤
I just like her personality so much that I came to watch this not for content but to get a positive vibe from her.
Omgosh I love hearing this!!!!!!!! Bernat baby blanket is queen 👸
Girl drop the pattern!
@@Jellybeansatdusk it’s my own pattern I made in January, I don’t really want to give away the pattern though because I make some money off of it, but there are a lot of other adorable Dino patterns online and on Etsy as well!
@@maddieyoung4849 do you have a site where you sell it?

i just started crocheting this year because of my grandma!! it really makes me feel connected to her in some type of way! my first project was also a bag for my moms birthday so it was really emotional for both of us
Awe I love this 🥹 it makes me feel closer to my grandma too 💖
Same here, my grandmother taught me how to crochet years ago and I just started back at it about a year ago and it really does make you feel so connected to them . I miss mine so much ❤
My Nani is coming to our country for the first time so I’m making her a bag ❤
I loved your tip about choosing a yarn that you love the feel/look of. That's my biggest joy in crochet is shopping through all the textures and colors. Being excited about a project and its materials/tools is what will keep you invested, so you'll actually finish it! lol
I’m not even a beginner but your enthusiasm makes this video entertaining basically what I’m trying to say is that you seem really sweet and a positive person, makes me happy to see someone else being all happy and smiley
Awe this comment made my day!
i am currently working on crocheting a small shoulder bag to put small things like chapstick, keys, airpods, ect. and it is actually the first ever thing i will be able to complete😂 this video will really help me to know what do buy for my next project
yes. i would recommend bernat blanket yarn with a 7mm hook, but the hook is definitely preference.
1.Yarn (medium to bulky )
2. Hook (4-5mm , 8mm)
3.stitch markers
4.plastic yarn needles
5.stitch counter
i very recently started crocheting (which is to say, about five hours ago) and i had looked up some tips and tricks and stuff and i can say that these all make a lot of sense. i’m using a 3mm hook and yarn for that size, so a bit on the small side, but it’s working pretty fine. right now i’m making tiny little scarves for stuffed animals. i can imagine this is gonna be a new hyperfixation for me… wish me luck!!
I have severe anxiety so learning to crochet has been super helpful and I’m actually motivated to learn everything ‼️I eventually want to learn to crochet clothes ,blankets ,hats , etc your videos are very informative and helpful
Aw, this was adorable!
I have several comments on this:
Awe thank you for the sweet sweet comment!!!!! So excited for your blanket!!!
Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful! I am just starting my journey to crocheting, and I want to make a blanket! I am going to make a temperature blanket for this year. Definitely, watching your videos has made crocheting look super easy and less overwhelming! Thanks for being you!
Omgosh thanks for this super sweet comment I’m so excited for you and your crochet journey!!!! Let me know how your temperature blanket goes!!!

I’m now starting a crochet business because you taught me how to crochet.❤
(Edit)not doing a business anymore but I’m still happy you taught me.
Was it a Woobles?

No way another young crocheter I started at 11 I am 12 now and I believe in u u can do it and soon will be able to make many things ❤❤
I’m ten and I want to crochet so bad but it’s so hard to find a good video to teach me how to
i’m learning from scratch and personally i’ve found chunky large yarns to be really fun to use! probably not for everyone, but i love the colorplay and dreamspun colors by yarnbee
You are so happy and joyful. You make my day! Keep on going Holly!!!
Awe this comment made my day 💖
when i first TRIED to start crocheting i got a thin yarn that fell apart like crazy it was a nightmare lol- the second time i picked it up i got bernat blanket yarn and it worked so much better for me! ive been crocheting since november and its been amazing
I am starting my crochet journey today. Thanks so much for the tips Holly!
Happy crocheting!!!
@HollyAuna What if the yarn label doesn’t say the crochet hook size on it? Could you make a video on it unless you already have?
My first project was a round scarf. The fun part is that I switcht to a bigger hook, and it widened the scarf. It is perfect because it fits perfectly around the shoulders and gets smaller around the face.
Now I am making a Christmas tree 🎄, because I would love to put a self made project with the Christmas cards as an extra gift
Wow that’s so cool!!!
Thank you for the positive energy you give us🥺🥺💗💗
Awe I’m so excited for your crochet journey!!!
I've been crocheting for 30 years. I wish I'd seen a video like this when i started. Nicely done!
Thank you so much! I’m young wanting to start my crochet journey but I was confused about all the different types of yarn and this really helped me!❤
I have a really hard time understanding where to put my hook through for double crochet etc.
This video was an absolute godsend, fr. Simple, easy to understand advice that has not lead me astray yet. :)
I started crocheting a week ago, and I was really struggling on the sizes of hook and yarn to get. Thank you for making this video it really helped me!
Omgosh Im so glad this helped!
First i was watching your crochet tutorials and now im working on my first project thank you holly auna!
Great job explaining this, Holly! I’ve been crocheting for about 8 months and I know this would’ve been so so useful! Love your vids!❤
Awe thank you so much Allison!!!! So excited for you and your crochet journey!
Awe I’m so so glad !!! Happy crocheting!
If you don’t want to spend the money on row markers you can actually use yarn! Just weave the yarn through the stitch! You can also use safety pins! I do recommend a physical plastic stitch marker though that’s made for marking yarn
Yaaaaas i did yarn as markers for YEARS but when I finally got stitch markers I was like omg this is so nice I can’t go back 😂
@@HollyAuna lol same 😂 also I can’t believe you responded!!! You are one of my FAVORITE UA-camrs!!!
it's so great that you take the time to put subtitles in your videos, thank you!
I love your rubiks cube earrings!!!!!!!
I LOVE your enthusiasm and joy. It is contagious!! Thanks for this very practical.
Can’t believe I’m this early feels illegal!!! TYSM FOR THE TIPS!! Going shopping rn!!
So early !!!
she's bubbly and so sweet i love it !

Also recommend staying away from non-worsted yarn and bamboo yarn the first because as was said the hook has a higher chance of splitting the yarn and bamboo yarn tends to be more slippery so it is hard to tension.
Yes yes yes to all of that!
OMGGGGGGGG I am a beginner and I LITERALLY

Oh my gosh I’m so excited for you. I love that yarn.!!!

This was super helpful as I’ve just started crocheting, by using some random yarn my mom had lying around and a hook from a rainbow loom set
I started in March.
•clover hooks. I’ll never look back.
•the metal type darning needles from clover are also amazing to weave in ends even with bulky yarn.
Love your colors, love your fun earrings, and love the info, thank you.
lol, did you even ask me to like and subscribe? god how refreshing. (already did, congrats)
I’ve been wanting to get into crocheting for a while now and you are just so encouraging!! Thank you for this, I look forward to beginning my crochet journey(:
As a sort of beginner I really like big puffy yarn and I think what ever yarn you like the Texture and color of is fine.
I just finished my first crochet project. A sleeve for my ereader using bulky yarn that I had left over from a knitting project.
For the jumbo yarn you are mostly supposed to use your finger but if you would like to use a hook you can
Holly, this video helped me in so many different ways, your such a good crochet explainer i was super confused on all the other tuts on UA-cam.
Thank you! I've always wanted to crochet but didn't know what to get, this video is very helpful. 😊
Im so so so excited for you to start your crochet journey!!
I just made my mum thigh high rainbow leg warmers with that exact yarn in your thumbnail!!
omgosh thats aweomse!!! i'm making a baby blanket out of that yarn!
This vid is so helpful i used to crochet with my great grandma from around 4-9 wen her health started to decline im 13 now and lost her last Christmas just found a blanket she crocheted and decided to start again❤
