It is said that Dumbledores patronus is a Phoenix. If that's the case then his animagus form should also be a Phoenix.?.?... Would his possible Phoenix form have all the abilities of an actual Phoenix? Tears? Fire? Rebirth? Carry extremely heavy loads?
Sounds like you’re far away from the mic and I’d much prefer your beautiful voice as if you’re standing next to me whispering in my ear lol. It helps me sleep better lol.
The fact that there are 4 unregistered animagi just within narrative proximity to Harry demonstrates that the Ministry registry is woefully underreported.
@@SquashGuy02134 if you don't snitch on yourself then someone else might do it. And I would guess that the punishment for not registering is quite uncomfortable. So unless you are certain that you can successfully hide your skill, then it might be the better choice to register. Of course that also depends on the reasons why you learned that skill.
@@SquashGuy02134unregistered animagi were sent Azkaban. I don’t know about you but if it came down to registering or being sent to the Dementors; I’d register. Really all it registering would do is disallow you to commit crimes because the Ministry would know it was you. Registering was to ensure you didn’t misuse your ability.
@@Jehty_Hermoine actually does this to Rita Skeeter, to stop her from writing false narratives about Harry and to give Harry a chance to tell his side of the story. Had she refused Rita would be in Azkaban. For the record Rita was able to turn into a beetle and used this to infiltrate Hogwarts even though Dumbledore has her removed and trespassed.
Remember when ron tried to transform scabbards into a cup. I always thought it didn't work because of his hand-me-down wand, but maybe the transfiguration magic was much more difficult because scabbards was already transfigurated as an animagus.
@@Auron1Roxas2 I always thought the reason was because it was a hand-me-down. The wand chooses the wizard. But I agree that using a broken one probably wouldn't be good either 🤣
@@Auron1Roxas2 I do believe it is because Scabbers was animagus. The spell was for transforming a real rat to a cup, not for transforming an animagus rat to a cup. P.S: Also if you remember, Ron tried to turn Scabbers yellow in the first year while his wand was in proper working condition. The spell did not work.
@@Hari-kx2er Pretty sure it was the broken wand as it had a habit of messing up and even turning spells back on the caster. Also Ron got the spell from his brothers and it was obviously made up as they were messing with him.
Seems like some people don't properly read the books. James transformed into stag and Sirius to a large black dog in order to control the large werewolf form of Lupin. It is clearly mentioned in book 3. That was the practical reason right there. You can't control a werewolf if you transformed into rat or beetle or cat
@@Hari-kx2er being a stag or a dog is ofcourse useful in some scenarios but in real everyday life I can think of more scenarios where hiding, go un noticed would be more useful.
@@lucasholmberg5708 As long as you have another person to team up with, being a dog might even give you a headstart in most human settlements when it comes to moveability. Ofc if you don't, you're really better off as a rat. Unless you're in a place or country where stray dogs are a common and welcome sight. And of course it also depends on the kind of dog you are.
I always wondered why Hermione didn't become an animagus. She was the best candidate. Best in all subjects and the danger wouldn't stop her. Luna also seemed like an animal archetype...If Molly Weasley was she was totally a bear.
@@NeverKissSomeFrog123and you seem to forget that unless the animagus transformation is a necessity such as the polyjuice potion in CoS then hermione wouldnt waste her time, especially that the years after hermione learns of animagi are years where voldemort is rising or is at power, there was simply no immediate need for an animagus form during the time of the books
I not certain that a wizard's choice of animagus is out of their control. Sirius told Harry that he and James became large animals to control Lupin better.
I noticed that under circumstances also your patronus can change....Maybe first change youre patronus to a big animal and than become an animagus. (And we know that Harry very young masterd the patronus charm..I suppose the same is true for the marauders.
Rowling hinted strongly at everyone's secret animagus forms. Dumbledore's animagus form: Fawkes. Madam Hooch's animagus form: Hawk. Snape's animagus form: Bat. Voldemort: Got stuck halfway when he tried to become a basilisk amimagus.
@@DragonyCat Considering you need particular ingredients such as the shed skin of a boomslang (a species of snake endemic to sub-Saharan Africa), a lacewing in its imago state and a part of the person you plan to transform into among other things; along with the brewing process taking a month.
If Sirius or James had still been alive, I'm pretty certain they would have convinced and helped Harry in the process. Sirius wasn't around long enough to be able to. And it's likely Ron and Hermione would have joined in the process as well. Ron definitely, Hermione probably out of wanting to be sure they didn't do it wrong
_Order of the Phoenix_ does have Harry wish that he could be an animagus so that he could breathe underwater as a fish or frog, but his top Transfiguration feat in his entire school career is changing the color of one of his eyebrows. Maybe if Sirius had survived _Order of the Phoenix,_ Harry could have had a Transfiguration tutor who operated more at his wavelength than Hermione or McGonagal, but even then...
I agree, Dumbledore probably is one, he's just good at lots of stuff. For all we know, he might even be one of the 7 registered ones, he might've mastered the skill very young, being the prodigy that he was. If Peter and Rita can do it, it would be a piece of cake for Dumbledore.
Probably not. He was so powerful and had so many tricks up his sleeve I doubt he would see a benefit in it. He didn't covet Harry's Cloak because he could produce such a good invisible charm he didn't need it. He was, after all, the Transfiguration Professor for quite some time, on top of student and post educational accolades. May have saw himself above it early on.
Yeah, plus the advantage of sneaking around unnoticed and fitting into small spaces or escaping effectively. Very useful when framing one's friend for mass murder, too. But if I knew one of my friends was a traitor, I probably would've guessed the rat 😄 The perfect plot twists of book three: the rat is a traitor, the black dog is Dogstar Black and Remus Wolfyflower is a werewolf. Who'd've thunk? Almost surprised McGonagall isn't called Kitty Silver or something. If JKR kept up the revealing names things in her detective novels, the characters would have names like Brutus Victimsson and I'd finally be able to guess who the murderer is.
I always thought - and this could easily be hindsight bias - that Minerva was a very fitting name for a cat or someone who owned a cat. But that's not enough to connect her and cats compared to the examples you gave.
This whole video can just be condensed down into “It’s really damn hard + you have to tell the entire Ministry of Magic that you’re one so you can’t necessarily hide”
For the record Peter turning into a rat was not seen as a bad thing. He was the only one who could safely hit the knot on the Whomping Willow so they could join Lupus when he changed.
I think from both the sorcerer's Stone movie and in the book itself that there is a possibility that Dumbledore is actually an animagus by which he transforms into an owl. I know everybody says he's probably going to be a phoenix but just like read the book in the first chapter and you'll see what I mean.
I agree the owl in the opening scene of philosophers stone owl is on private drive flies off and dumbledore appears. Also the platform he gives his speeches to his students behind is an owl. Hint hint.
@@victoria_m13 this was the beginning of JK Rowling's worked so she probably just changed her mind or it was something she just added for dramatic effect by having two owls and stuff coming in.
The truth that James, Sirius and yes even Peter went through such an arduous and harrowing process, at 15 no less, just to keep Lupin company during his transformations really shows how strong their friendship was. Makes Peter's betrayal even more disheartening.
I think dumbledore is just humble enough not to spam the transformation process, he has the highest competence that him not being animagi is just mere speculation
I feel that Dumbledore was an animagus, and his creature was an owl. In the opening of Sourcerers Stone, he was perched on a lampost. He flew away and then Dumbledore approached from the area where the owl had flown. Of course he wouldn't tell anyone.
I love this theory! I have watched all the original Harry Potter films more times than I can count and I NEVER noticed that the owl flew off to where Dumbledore appeared
Seeing as Barty 'Moody' was able to transform Draco into a ferret and then his own father into a bone. This makes me wonder if wizards aren't able to undergo transfiguration, could they at least get another witch or wizard to morph then into a particular animal and then change them back when they're done?
I remember reading somwhere that being transfigured into an animal includes the brain, and you don't retain your "human thinking" and free will if youre transfigured into an animal, whereas you do as an animagus.
I don’t think Rowling cared for that much detail, nor she was smart enough to make all these rules for a new universe (I don’t think anyone actually is). She just wanted to tell a story, and I am happy with it.
@@ashkanpower Very fair! But don't forget that plenty of people simply enjoy theorycrafting just as much, even if there was no real initial plan or purpose by the original writer themselves.
Always wondered why she didn't have The Golden Trio try it. It would have been fun to see all the side effects of the process and Ron constantly having to start over. I thought Harry would have wanted to be like the Marauders in every way possible.
Now that I think of it, it makes sense that wizards with especially overgrown egos, obsessive secrecy and craving for personal power like Tom Riddle and Dumbledore would not have animagus forms. They would not be willing to relax and surrender to the shape change. Your listing of all the required steps to becoming an animagus makes it even clearer why the busiest, most controlling wizards would not bother.
Great video and good ideas. I've been wondering this.....perhaps another video. Where did Molly's clock come from? Who made it? Why doesn't Dumbledore, who admired it, have one like it? My thoughts.....Molly is a much more powerful and creative witch than we are led to believe at first. After all, she's the one who beat Bellatrix. I think Molly was a very powerful witch, who simply chose to be a "domestic goddess", as she so loved Arthur. I think she created the clock herself to keep with her family and make sure they are safe. Think about it....most of her children are also quite powerful in their own ways...especially Ginny.
The family clock wasn't the only one she created-there was also one near the kitchen sink. Regarding the family clock, the second movie presented it with a slight inaccuracy: in the books, the 12 o'clock position has "mortal peril" and after Voldemort's return, she had to take it down as everyone's hands were stuck on "mortal peril". I was amused when in the movie it showed Ron, Fred and George as "Lost" before their hands moved to "Home".
@@JamesDavy2009 I’d always assumed it was just one clock but Rowling had forgotten she had described it as a grandfather clock in CoS, but had Molly carrying it around in HBP.
It’s amazing that James, Sirius and even Peter managed to do it when they were 15 years old. And yeah they were all unregistered. Rita Skeeter was unregistered too. So we already know of 4 more to add to that 7 on the list. I wonder if Remus could become an animagus too if he tried, but the poor guy would probably just turn into a wolf as well.
so being a phoenix-animagus is yet another way of becoming immortal, pretty interesting. I think becoming magical creatures when transforming is quite overpowered if I'm honest.
Tbh, i don't think that becoming an pheonix would make you immortal. Like we have seen that taken deadly damage would transform you back to your regular form. It is shown when Sirius Black takes a lot of damage when fighting with Remus Lupin and he becomes his regular self and lies by the lake.
But, they're regular animals. James, McGonagall, Sirius, Peter and Reeta all turn into normal animals. So, it might not work with magical animals. Also patroni and animagus form can be different.
If you take Hogwarts Legacy as canon (and I do) there's also Natsai Onai and her father, who could transform into a gazelle and a giraffe respectively. To me, this raises the question of whether your location in the world and exposure to certain animal species affects the pool of potential forms you might be able to transform into. The Marauders transformed into a stag, a rat and a dog, all things common to England and Europe as a whole. Skeeter could transform into a blue beetle, likely the blue mint beetle native to the UK (though there's also a blue milkweed beetle native to the US and Canada). The Onais were from Matabeleland, a region of Zimbabwe, and transformed into animals native to the African savannah. Perhaps this isn't coincidence.
That giraffe one I think brings up another potential danger to becoming an animagus... the location in which you choose to do it. Too small a space and you might get crushed or disfigured transforming into a large animal. Or just get claustrophobic, causing a fear response that cascades into the problems associated with that. Too open and you might get snagged by a predator if you transform into a small animal. Coupled with the recommendation that you should avoid doing this where others can see you, there's not a lot of options where it would even be safe to preform the first transformation.
@@PollexTheCat - There certainly would be additional risks to your first transformation. Especially if you don't intend to register. Not only would you need to keep it from muggle eyes, but wizard as well. I agree that not knowing the size would be an issue. Personally, I think the Law of Conservation of Mass should apply, but sometimes fantasy writers don't take RL physics into account.
@@PollexTheCat - Yeah, that's something that never set right with me. And Rita Skeeter shrinking into a beetle. With other animagi, you don't have to think too hard about it, since things like stags, dogs and gazelle can be roughly human-sized. When it comes to extremes like bugs, rats and giraffes, there's a strong sense of uncanny valley, knowing that shouldn't be possible, even with magic. All that unaccounted for mass had to go, or come from, somewhere...
The info presented here is fundamentally correct...strictly for British wizarding society. Becoming an animagus is part of the curriculum in Ouagadou for instance (the Hogwarts equivalent on the African continent), and if what little information we have about them is anything to go by, the region in which you live apparently also influences your animal form to an extent, making lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, crocodile or hyena animagi much, much more commonplace in the various African nations than, say, finding red squirrels or house cats there. So, basically, "only seven animagi this century" comes with the caveats "in Britain" and "that registered". And, honestly, I appreciate this cultural difference, same as how wandless magic is a basic, expected ability for Ouagadou students (and other cultures), but is a show of advanced skill and ability for European wizards.
Why would you want to? You can't choose what you become, so for most people it will be very useless. Imagine Luna becomming an otter or something. If it's for stealth and you are Dumbledore or Voldemort why would you need to hide at the hight of your power. Or just use a invisibility spell. Albus actually mentioned that it's much more convenient for a powerful wizard than a cloak or spending a year to become some random animal. If it's for the animals abilities, then there's specialists spells or tools that are much more convenient, for example, brooms for flying or just teleporting, the water grass for underwater breathing, or incapacitate spells for werewolves instead of fighting in paw to paw combat. So if you are a busy magical genius why would you waste your time on a party trick when you could learn or develop much more useful skills with the limited time you have.

The Wizarding World is full of powerful, skilled, talented, and creative wizards and witches, and it's not out of the question for magical knowledge to expand, evolve, and experiment. I am aware that Transfiguration is regarded as one of, if not the most, difficult and complex of the magical arts, and yet it is perfectly possible for magical experimentation to yield new and improved magicks that can make wizards and witches even more powerful

Just a note: Talbott Winger is an eagle animagi but he is not a bald eagle (as pictured), he a golden eagle which as a Ravenclaw matches his house mascot. In the game Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery, Talbot's mother, who was a swan animagi (as mentioned in the video), helped Talbot become an animagi to protect him during the first wizarding war (I believe he was 8 years old at the time) . He was unregistered to keep him safe. His parents were killed by death eaters before Voldemort's fall at Godric's Hollow and his being an unregistered animagi helped him escape. He remains unregistered as he fears death eaters that got away will one day come after him but this might change as at the end of his 7th year he is planning on becoming an Auror. In the game Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery, the main character (MC) becomes friends with Talbot and is given the opportunity to become an animagi as well starting in your 3ed year at Hogwarts with his and another student's help. If you finish the quests in time you become an animagi but what you become is based on how you answer questions during the quest line. You become one of three different animals, a cat, a dog, or a golden eagle.
My character is also a (Golden) Eagle Animagus, though her feathers are light brown and light tan rather than Talbott Winger's rich golden brown feathers for his Animagus Form.
Wizards are Int based casters, so not a whole lot of them had the requisite 13 Wis score needed to multiclass into druid. Especially when they get Polymorph at level 7 anyways.
Voldemort and Dumbledore could both be Animuguses and simply never revealed it, thats true... But I think not, I think simply that, at their level there simply wouldn't be an advantage to it. The advantages as I see it, to normal wizards and witches would be these 4 things. 1. The ability to hide/disappear from the ministry or others (Wormtail & Sirius does this) 2. The ability to spy (If animagus is something small like a bug) 3. The abillity to fly (if animagus is aerial) 4. The ability to fight (if animagus is powerful like fx a dragon or some other powerful creature) Dumbledore says in the books, that he doesnt need a cloak to be invisible, which makes 1& 2 useless for him Voldemort can fly as he does so in both book and movie, which takes care of 3 And it stands to reason that, if one can do something the other can aswell And both of them are more powerful with their wands than even a dragon, so turning in to a dragon would only weaken their fighting ability.
Phoenix rises from the ashes Dumbledore never became ashes so they would probably have to cremate him first then he could rise again. However maybe Dumbledore would have to be in his Phoenix form in order for him to come back like a Phoenix. So with him dying in his human form he died for real.
No. A Patronus can drive away Dementors and being an Animagus allows the Wizard or Witch to transform into that animal, but neither can make that Wizard or Witch immortal.
The Ministry of Magic doesn't rule the whole magic world. There are likely animagi elsewhere in the world and most people probably wouldn't register being one because it defeats the purpose of hiding as an animal.
Okay... But hear me out. What if this insanely specific process, for which there is no other similarly complex process for anything so straightforward, is actually a lie? What if the ministry of magic found out that all you had to do to become an animagus, was speak that incantation over and over until it finally works? What if they figured out the fact that mandrake leaves interfere with the process in some way, delaying it and preventing the process from completing as quickly? What if the potion that is created at the end is just a counter to the chemicals in the mandrake leaf, neutralizing it's effects in the body and allowing the first transformation? What if they were terrified of everyone being able to perfectly disguise themselves as animals, so they invented an elaborate process which prevented wizards who would otherwise have gone through with it from even attempting it? What if all the stories about danger were just ministry propoganda designed to scare people off?
I have a question that would maybe be a good idea for a theory video. If your animagus is a pheonix and you turn and then get killed while turned, do you die or are you immortal? And if the answer is immortal, how would that work? Would you be reborn from ash into a baby pheonix? And then, how would that work? Would your human mind be reduced to that of a baby? If yes, could you even turn back or would you be stuck as a pheonix forver? If you get stuck, would your memory return as you grow older as a bird or is that all gone along with your magical knowladge, because its a part of a life that has ended? ARE YOU JUST A REGULAR BIRD NOW WITH ALL OF YOUR HUMANITY REMOVED WHEN YOU DIED?
I don't know if anyone had a theory or something on that topic but i think it is quite interesting. what if an metamorphmagus becomes an animagus? are they capable of changing from an white to a black cat for example or can metamorphmagi just turn into animal ore someting like that
Its kinda sad, that peter pettigrew was never shown as tallanted mage. If this is such a pinacle in Transfiguration (we can skip potions, because, only one master is needed for a group), he should be able to create himself a "hand" and not wait for Voldemort to replace it. And he should be stronger then most DEs at that. P.S. imagining your own figure is a quest...
PP became one so it couldn't be that difficult. It just seems unnecessary given other skills. You can be unseen, unheard, and unrecognized without becoming an animal. There is not much advantage. No one would let a cat spy on them in an important meeting. It is only unimportant things that you would allow yourself to be listened to by any creature. Have you ever tasted a mandrake leaf?
Something the movies highlighted was that some animagi where more skilled in the abikity than others. Sirius could transform at will and without wand. Wormtail needed a wand as having spent so long as a rat he wasnt much in practice.
On the subject of transfiguration. Why are they always changing household items into animals or animals into household items. Thats basically the entirety of the transfiguration class. Is there a major call for that in the wizarding world?
1. It is incredibly difficult. It took Peter, Peter and Sirius 3 years to understand how to change . 2. Creating the potion was incredibly taxing. You would have to start by holding a mandrake lead in your mouth for a full month (full moon to full moon) and then spit it into a vial, while being in full moon. It it was cloudy that night you would have to start over . That would have to be mixed with dew that hadn’t seen sunlight or touched by human feet, along with the chrysalis of a specific moth. Then the Wizard would have to recite an incantation at sunrise and sunset until an electrical storm. The final step would be during the storm the Wizard would have to find a large and secure place to recite the Incantation one last time and then drink the potion. 3.Any Animagi was required to register with the Ministry of Magic detailing which animal they could transform into and what exactly they would look like. Not only was being an animagi difficult, but it was also a collar around the neck. This is why most wizards didn’t even bother with making the potion.
About the transformation going wrong... I've always wondered if Rowling, in cannon, or some fan, in fanfic, would ever make Ware wolves and Maladictus major side effects of the transformation going wrong... The story of the first Warewolf or Maladictus could make for a great prequel series!
The animal form you get is random(?) cannot be changed and is an absolute pain in the ass to acquire, maybe Voldy/Dumbles etc know of some way to "preview" their animagus form and didn't consider it worth the trouble.
2:03 if that's the case i think dumbledore could've been one of those rare individuals who can turn into phoenix. Which makes me wonder next thing. If witch/wizard could turn into a magical creature. Would it be only the form of the creature without it's magical abilities (like phoenix without healing tears or power of rebirth)?
Taking it for granted that magical creatures animagi are possible, I have a couple of questions about phoenix ones. Can they cheat death by transforming into a phoenix prior to their demise? if so, would they have to live the rest of their lives as phoenixes, or would their human bodies also be reborn?
It would be interesting if there is a *wizard/witch with the animagus ability to transform into a multitude of creatures at-will* Think like Beast Boy from Teen Titans I coin the term: *Zoomagus*
Whoever was the first one to figure out the way to become an animagi must have been high on Felix Felicis for weeks! Those steps to make that potion just don't seem to be "guessable". Are there any canon explanations on that?

Movie versions....other than using the ability to spy / be covert as an auror it isn't useful since many seem able to fly without a broom rather easily. Books only Voldemort and Snape can fly unaided so for them there is no use to being an animagi. Prior to anyone being able to fly unaided it could be useful as long as you turned into a bird. Even then, if you can perfect asperating then you can get somewhere faster than a bird so still not very useful. It is an sem interesting conversation starter at a party but otherwise it just is not very useful.
Personal theory. We haven’t seen dumbeldores patronous. But he has. Perhaps it was the animal shown in fantastic beasts with the ability to see the future. Something I doubt he would have wanted given his inquisitive nature.
Slughorn transfigured into a comfy arm chair, but was not an animagus. So we can assume that any person can go into an inanimate object, but animal maybe a step too far for some or is more complex in terms of time and effort.
JK very quickly scribbled over her notes regarding the Sorting Hat choosing your house based on your inherit traits at 11 years old but I’d like to see a justification as to why your animagus form can’t change as you grow or something. The wizarding world is just filled to the brim with a weird ideology that some people are just born bad, and should be feared and excluded because of it . Like if one of my friends animagus form was a leech or something seemingly undesirable I’d definitely be giving some hard side eyes.
Possibly no one could transform into a magical animal like a Unicorn or Phoenix because it wasn't possible. Certainly elves had their own magic as do goblins, so maybe it would not be possible to transform into an immortal Phoenix for instance?
@@Evanj_mcd Dungeons and Dragons (DnD), Is a role-playing game by TSR played with dice, (back before computers), and in a sense, it is a magical world with wizards, among other things. i suspect because being able to get things balanced to the point you can change back and forth at will is actually very, VERY difficult. Nagini from the sequal trilogy might be one outcome of a botched Animagus attempt.(she was doomed to one day be unable to turn back into human) Werewolves were likely another. The books mention in a few places that Peter Pettigrew spent a little too much time as a rat when posing as Scabbers and he never quite lost the ratlike qualities after that. I suspect self-transformation is VERY dangerous..because what happens if/when you change the bits that allow you to be a Wizard in the first place? has anyone ever seen a transformed witch or wizard cast spells while in animal form, for instance? we know that it's POSSIBLE to do it without words or gestures...just really difficult. Wands and the rest are foci....concentration aids. James Potter and his freinds were being INCREDIBLY reckless when they made thier attempt..which, from all indications in the book, was right along with thier personalities....it got Sirius killed in the end.
I’d give becoming an animagus a shot. One thing I would to make sure I followed all steps correctly is rewrite them in my own words. Reading something that I wrote myself makes it far easier to comprehend than if I was reading someone else’s writing. Also I would leave my phial in a place on Earth where lightning storms are the most prominent. Pottermore says my patronus is a white stallion and sure that’s pretty cool, but if my animal form is different I’m hoping it would be a: bengal tiger, falcon, dragon, dog, or a Great White shark if I were to become a sea creature.
Dumbledore absolutely COULD become an animagus, but I suspect he had no interest in it. It is not so much about skill in his case, but time. He had the mind of a researcher and crusader..animagus was nothing new and nothing would be gained in the greater realms of magic. He would rather put his time into something that could change the world…not just become a cool animal.
Yeah, but Dumbledore's patronus is a Fenix. If he were an animagus then his obsession with immortality, which lead him down his path would have no meaning as he can just transform into a fexing and be roborn from the ashes?
how difficult was it for Barty Crouch Jr ( disguised as Moody ) to do the weasel thing to Draco ? I take it it is much more difficult to change ones own form than to do it to another person but I thought "weasel juggling " was most impressive
Crouch Jr. is rediculously powerful (especially given his young age and then Azkaban/cellar imprisonment) generally. So he could be able to transform someone else, without killing them, which prolly is the acrual feat here, which not too many other can do.
It is said that Dumbledores patronus is a Phoenix. If that's the case then his animagus form should also be a Phoenix.?.?... Would his possible Phoenix form have all the abilities of an actual Phoenix? Tears? Fire? Rebirth? Carry extremely heavy loads?
I don’t remember if the books ever mentioned what happens if an animagus is killed in animal form, but according to Hogwarts Legacy they apparently turn back to their human form when dying.
Didn't Snape turn himself into a bat and flee through a window when he and Prof McGonagall started dueling? If so...I don't think this was known until his transformation was seen by all; thus revealing himself as an unregistered Animagus?
Just because it wasn’t written in the books that Dumbledore had used an animagus form doesn’t mean he hadn’t mastered it. Assuming he would have become a Phoenix due to this being his patronus animal, who’s to say that the Phoenix who came to rescue Harry in the chamber of secrets wasn’t Dumbledore himself. Harry might just have mistaken him for Fawkes. 🤷🏼♂️ Would be an interesting plot twist.
I would say the biggest reason is that it is just not useful. In what situations is it beneficial to turn into an animal? Not so much. Especially in a world where magic exists. Strong and fast animals (dog, stag, etc.): well, I would guess just a normal wizard is faster and stronger than an animagi. Apparition, flying with a broom and probably a bunch of other forms of transportation I can't think about right now. And for fighting a wizard with a wand in their hand is definitely stronger than a dog. And for sneaky animals (rat, beetle) it also isn't that much better. For starters you can't really use that indoors. Most people would realize if an animal is wandering around their house. And if you can get killed with just one word that's quite a lot of risk your taking on you. You could just use spying methods that don't put yourself in such risk.
the thought of Harry's paternal grandparents and their home popped into my head as I'm watching order of the phoenix. I mean is there any info on what happened to the house where Sirius went after he left his parents' house. Is it still in the Potter family? Who owns it if Harry doesn't?

Remember when ron tried to transform scabbards into a cup. I always thought it didn't work because of his hand-me-down wand, but maybe the transfiguration magic was much more difficult because scabbards was already transfigurated as an animagus.
Naw that's most definitely because of the wand, remember it was broken at the time.

I think from both the sorcerer's Stone movie and in the book itself that there is a possibility that Dumbledore is actually an animagus by which he transforms into an owl. I know everybody says he's probably going to be a phoenix but just like read the book in the first chapter and you'll see what I mean.
I was thinking the same. About him being an owl animagus, but for split second I considered an phoenix but neglected because they are reborn.

I doubt it because the Dumbledores are specially linked to Pheonixes

Seeing as Barty 'Moody' was able to transform Draco into a ferret and then his own father into a bone. This makes me wonder if wizards aren't able to undergo transfiguration, could they at least get another witch or wizard to morph then into a particular animal and then change them back when they're done?
I remember reading somwhere that being transfigured into an animal includes the brain, and you don't retain your "human thinking" and free will if youre transfigured into an animal, whereas you do as an animagus.

there's nothing to suggest that ron would mess it up if he were motivated to do it
Now that I think of it, it makes sense that wizards with especially overgrown egos, obsessive secrecy and craving for personal power like Tom Riddle and Dumbledore would not have animagus forms. They would not be willing to relax and surrender to the shape change.
Your listing of all the required steps to becoming an animagus makes it even clearer why the busiest, most controlling wizards would not bother.
With Voldemort's war, the reason for wanting that secrecy of being an Animagi makes their reason to not tell the ministry all the more reasonable.

I think she created the clock herself
to keep with her family and make sure they are safe. Think about it....most of her children are also quite powerful in their own ways...especially Ginny.
Arthur definitely made that clock. Arthur is like SS tier item enchanter.
@@CarrotCakeMake I’m not so sure. I think Molly is the real power in the family.
@m.c1689 It means she is intuitive, creative, and powerfully magical. It's pretty much as innovative as Dumbledore's "Put Outer".
There's also the fact that Dumbledore knew he needed to die to deal with the curse, even if he had the ability, he would have still chosen to die
yes phoenixes are immortal. but they still die. they die and burn to ash. that just do not stay dead for long.
If the animal form is a reflection of your personality, then Peter's first transformation should have been a red flag for the marauders 😂
I mean, rats aren't actually evil or conniving. That's just the attributes people have given them.
1:55 then would Tonks become a werewolf in her animagus form? What happens when a patronus changes?

Magic can evolve and grow and improve if one is determined enough to find a way
Just a note: Talbott Winger is an eagle animagi but he is not a bald eagle (as pictured), he a golden eagle which as a Ravenclaw matches his house mascot.
The average animagi is seemingly as rare as having a "mythical type" zoan fruit in
Voldemort and Dumbledore could both be Animuguses and simply never revealed it, thats true... But I think not, I think simply that, at their level there simply wouldn't be an advantage to it.
The advantages as I see it, to normal wizards and witches would be these 4 things.
1. The ability to hide/disappear from the ministry or others (Wormtail & Sirius does this)
2. The ability to spy (If animagus is something small like a bug)
3. The abillity to fly (if animagus is aerial)
4. The ability to fight (if animagus is powerful like fx a dragon or some other powerful creature)
Dumbledore says in the books, that he doesnt need a cloak to be invisible, which makes 1& 2 useless for him
Voldemort can fly as he does so in both book and movie, which takes care of 3
And it stands to reason that, if one can do something the other can aswell
And both of them are more powerful with their wands than even a dragon, so turning in to a dragon would only weaken their fighting ability.
"From full moon to full moon. Yes we're serious." I see what you did there! lol
If your patronus is a phoenix (like Dumbledore's), then your animagus form would probably be a phoenix too. Wouldn't that make you immortal?
If one is immortal they can’t die. There goes that theory
I like this theory. Could have a great TV series based on it.
I don't know if anyone had a theory or something on that topic but i think it is quite interesting. what if an metamorphmagus becomes an animagus? are they capable of changing from an white to a black cat for example or can metamorphmagi just turn into animal ore someting like that
I'm big fan love your videos
3:25 nice to see you reference hogwarts mystery, you should reference these harry potter games more
1:45 I've never heard of an animagus transforming into a magical creature before
Its kinda sad, that peter pettigrew was never shown as tallanted mage. If this is such a pinacle in Transfiguration (we can skip potions, because, only one master is needed for a group), he should be able to create himself a "hand" and not wait for Voldemort to replace it. And he should be stronger then most DEs at that.
P.S. imagining your own figure is a quest...
A very Good Video 👍🏻
It must be a real pain if your animagus form is a fish.
3:14 Her Patronus was also a cat, as she summoned three at once in the books.
Thats mostly what was said in the video.
@@jonathaneast3727 well there are dumb people out there and some people just read the comments.
Please anybody, what is this music starting at 3:19 where can I find it?! ❤😢
Taking it for granted that magical creatures animagi are possible, I have a couple of questions about phoenix ones. Can they cheat death by transforming into a phoenix prior to their demise? if so, would they have to live the rest of their lives as phoenixes, or would their human bodies also be reborn?
Do you think that the recipe for it is easily accessible or is hidden somewhere in the restricted section?
Likely in the restricted section given how advanced the ritual is and the risks involved should it fail.
It would be interesting if there is a *wizard/witch with the animagus ability to transform into a multitude of creatures at-will*
Think like Beast Boy from Teen Titans
I coin the term: *Zoomagus*
Sirius really did have the dawg in him.
Question could a wizard powerful enough to use wandless magic be able to use magic in animagus from
Whoever was the first one to figure out the way to become an animagi must have been high on Felix Felicis for weeks! Those steps to make that potion just don't seem to be "guessable". Are there any canon explanations on that?
It's fantasy and doesn't need to be plausible.
@@MountainFisher They didn't say anything about it being plausible. And even if they did, just because something is fantasy or fiction doesn't mean there aren't still in-universe rules to abide by, nor does it mean people can't enjoy speculating and theorizing about stuff.
If you aren't one to speculate or theorize, scroll past comments like this. Let other people enjoy their theorizing. It's why the HP universe has stayed alive for such a long time. Don't be one of those people who feel the need to knock the wind out of other's sails just because you feel the need to be right.
@@QPoily Oh ex deus machina like time turners.
Why didn’t more wizards turn into owls? They could carry a letter and fly anywhere they wanted without anyone wondering what they are doing there
honestly a little surprised that hermione never bothered becoming an animagus, i woulda though she'd do it just to prove she could
Too dangerous. One wrong move and even best magical doctors won't be able to return you back to normal, especially after her experience with polyjuice potion(she became catgirl, and could end up stuck as one, so she learnt first hand about dangers of improperly done transformation).
Maybe the reason for Voldemort looking like a snake is a side effect of this spell??
Feel like registering animagus license is like a house arrest sentence in disguise so not many people like to let the ministry know.
I know, right? Thulsa Doom had no problem deciding to become a snake. I think he and Voldy would have gotten along great.
Can a lycanthrope also become an animagi or does it negate the chance of that happening?
Don't you also have to worry about what creature you turn into at whatever location you're at could possibly be hunting season for whatever you are that you have to watch out for as well
if i remember correctly dumbledor was quite involved when mcgonagle was doing the process of becoming an animagus
I don't know why wizards don't just take over the muggle world. Especially since technology is becoming more advanced and a potential threat.
That's a thing - since the invention of firearms - they can't. They have to hide. There's too little of them.
I think it's a phoenix
Dumbledore the Demiguise. Has a nice ring to it
@@jbear3478 you’re right. I didn’t feel like looking it up at the time. So much for that theory 😓
Because it grows with you, apparently. As your human self matures and grows up, so does your animagus self, your animal form.
Possibly no one could transform into a magical animal like a Unicorn or Phoenix because it wasn't possible. Certainly elves had their own magic as do goblins, so maybe it would not be possible to transform into an immortal Phoenix for instance?
Good question, almost everyone I played DnD with wanted "polymorph self" spell.
@@Evanj_mcd Dungeons and Dragons (DnD), Is a role-playing game by TSR played with dice, (back before computers), and in a sense, it is a magical world with wizards, among other things. I would recommend doing a little bit of research before purchasing or playing, as there has been rare instances of psychosis, (impulsive character identification), some call 'possession'.
i suspect because being able to get things balanced to the point you can change back and forth at will is actually very, VERY difficult.
Pottermore says I am black stallion lol.
I always wondered what would i turn to... Strange to think about it.
Peter's Animagus being a Rat isnt directly bad. A small sneaky creature, perfect for quick and nifty movements.
how difficult was it for Barty Crouch Jr ( disguised as Moody ) to do the weasel thing to Draco ? I take it it is much more difficult to change ones own form than to do it to another person but I thought "weasel juggling " was most impressive
That’s actually an interesting point - maybe it restricted him to the mind of a weasel, whilst as an aminagi you keep your mond
@@tectamk.thorne7837 Hence Sirius being warned to act more canine at King's Cross Station.
Crouch Jr. is rediculously powerful (especially given his young age and then Azkaban/cellar imprisonment) generally.
I wonder if there is anyone who can turn into a dragon or any magical animal
3:03 that’s a true bug in the order Hemiptera not a beetle or Coleoptera
do you think there’s any animals that can’t be turned into? and also do you think if you was in your animagus form and got killed you would die?
I think not dying when killed would be unlikely 😀
I don’t remember if the books ever mentioned what happens if an animagus is killed in animal form, but according to Hogwarts Legacy they apparently turn back to their human form when dying.
Didn't Snape turn himself into a bat and flee through a window when he and Prof McGonagall started dueling? If so...I don't think this was known until his transformation was seen by all; thus revealing himself as an unregistered Animagus?
No, he like Voldemort, can fly without broom
Just because it wasn’t written in the books that Dumbledore had used an animagus form doesn’t mean he hadn’t mastered it. Assuming he would have become a Phoenix due to this being his patronus animal, who’s to say that the Phoenix who came to rescue Harry in the chamber of secrets wasn’t Dumbledore himself. Harry might just have mistaken him for Fawkes. 🤷🏼♂️ Would be an interesting plot twist.
Since Snapes patronus is a doe, is it likely to then presume his animagi form could also be a doe?
If so, would that make him trans?
Who the frack was the wizard that figured out the recipe for this?
