Arguably the best i4 review video out there. Very realistic as it shows real life experience of travelling with the i4.
Thank you for the kinds words Bakare - high praise indeed.
Nice vid. You'll find that the range is based on how it has been drivien previously. So around local roads, you may have been averaging 2 to 3 miles/kWh, which determined the 157 mile range. Then on the motorway, you'll average 3 to 4 miles/kWh.
I've found in winter, mine will average 3 to 3.4 miles/kWh at 70 mph, giving a max winter motorway range of about 270 miles. In summer, on a mixed trip of 50mph to 70mph, I can average 4 miles/kWh, giving a true summer roadtrip range of 320 miles.
We thought that, however it was delivered on a wagon and I only drove it a few miles in the snow before the road trip - it all depends who and when it was driven previously. I found it really knew how to economise, thank you for the breakdown Nick.
@@PlanetautoUK No probs. I read on the i4TALK forum that the guess-o-meter is skewed from manufacture, and takes a number of weeks to settle down properly, due to it being powered up through a lot of its manufacture, and not actually doing any miles. So its average is nearly zero miles/kWh for a while. Through normal, every day local driving, and the odd long trip, mine has settled to 2.8 miles/kWh over the last 12 months (11k miles). But I know I can get 4 m/kWh in summer.
@Nick_Smith1970 ah interesting, makes sense - that’s some impressive stats, and more to the point it’s a joy to drive. Thank you
For a rear wheel drive car in that weather, very impressed with how it coped in the wet.great video .thanks for posting
Thank you Ken, it gives you idea where future electric sporty cars are heading - full review coming soon
Great review! I am sold on this car. It looks amazing and has an amzing interior. I bet it looks cool at night with the ambient light
It does, thank you for the kind words Ajajambo, there’s a review on the channel too 😺
What a great video!!! Wow, the i4 seems to be an amazing car, I love that it has RWD. The sound that was made when you put your foot down gave my goose bumps. I hope these batteries will be cheap to repair after the 7 years is over on the battery. Cheers, keep up the great work!!!
Thank you, Matt - glad you enjoyed it!
Time will tell how graceful the degradation on the battery will be on various EVs. Will it keep working until the day it screams "Drivetrain Fault!" at you and refuse to move at all? Or will it just gracefully lose more and more range and you're saddled with a still-functioning car that just needs to be recharged more frequently?
@BogeyTheBear I expect lose range gradually, but it remains to be seen as you said Bogey
Sounds like you both were very smitten with this 🤔it's certainly some car 🚗😊 weather conditions were pretty much July/ August 😢 very good road trip planet auto 🚘 🎉
Thanks, David - glad you enjoyed it. The i4 was a smooth ride!
Just ordered this exact car today in San Remo green, coming on July 29th 🙂
That’s ond momentous day, enjoy Stookie not too long to wait either 😀
Nice to see some real world range testing. Just about to order a new I4 M Sport Pro eDrive 40 with rhe Tech pack, heated steering wheel, tinted windows and a few other options.
You do like to sit in the middle lane though. 🤣
Thank you, nice spec, we saw at least two written off motors on the M58 including a spun out AMG, in the middle at least I’ve got recovery time if required. Considering it’s not X drive it handles superbly, but sod second guessing snow and ice 😎
Agree about the i4. I have the i4 M Sport with the adaptive suspension and I use Eco Pro most of the time and has great reliable range at motorway speeds. Handling wonderful. B mode also great in towns and adaptive regen very effective. Seems i5 even better.
Thank you bshah, excellent car looks like we need to drive the i5 sooner rather than later.
What real world range are getting on eco pro in moderate weather? I'm thinking of getting one, mainly for motorway driving.
@DannySMalone sadly we never got moderate weather as you can tell it was cold - we’d expect another 30 miles min on top of what we achieved, best bet - ask BMW for a decent test drive, hope this helps Danny.
I chopped in an M5 Comp for one of these and for every day driving, I prefer this in almost every respect
That’s an interesting daily, I can believe it - this is our perfect BMW bar i8, thank you Pete
Nice video. Is the augmented reality available on the i4?
It is in North America… we’ll see what we can find out 😀
Absolutely fantastic cars . The Mk2 Golf gti. 😁
Couldn't agree more, Richard! As you can see, the Mk2 is well on its way ❤️❤️
We had fun in that i4 though :)
Great commentary!!! Does the i4 have a heat pump??
Thank you and yes it does Fool Cell 😆
Just placed an order for an i4 40 Msport Pro👍🏻
Oh very nice, congrats 🥳 Rich, fantastic cars keep us posted on your adventures
Great video. I'm looking at Buying an i4, but I've never driven a rear wheel drive before and I hear a lot of bad things about driving them in the wet. How does the i4 perform going around bends and roundabouts in the wet, does it slip at all?
Thank you Philip, it’s very well setup, I literally had it step out once on a launch in the pouring rain in the sportiest mode and it corrected itself before I could. Around bends and roundabouts at a decent speed it will corner with ease due to the front steering and the rears driving, this is what BMW prided themselves with the addition of weight distribution in they’re cars, drive one on test - and you’ll love it, please come back and tell us your thoughts too.
I wouldn’t worry. I have a rear wheel drive 3 series touring with the M Sport Pro pack and the handling on it is incredible, dry or wet. Rear wheel drive just feels more punchy when you put your foot down too.
I’m close to buying an i4 eDrive40 and I fully expect it to feel pretty similar to my 3 series when i drive one soon.
@emjbee101 it will emj be good to hear your thoughts 😊
@@PlanetautoUK yep, ended up getting one today. Brooklyn Grey. All the toys, m sport pro, visibility, comfort plus, tech plus, sunroof etc .
Very nice car to drive. Doesn’t feel as sporty as my 3 series touring with the m sport pro pack, but it’s such a smooth and relaxing drive.
I managed 77 miles on 26% in the cold and wet with aircon on and not driving like a slug, so that equates to just short of 300 miles range in those conditions. So I reckon in summer I may see more. I could also try to wring out more miles by turning off aircon etc, but that’s not a realistic or practical way to drive IMO.
@emjbee101 very cool, no you’re right drive as you would, sod compromising a lovely driving experience. Thank you for updating and enjoy
How did it compare with iX you drove?
This is far more dynamic, agile feels more old school BMW balance etc, thank you Car Finance Simplified
Some things i noticed that you haven't mentioned in the film. The road noise is bad and i noticed even on the smooth motorway you and the camera were being tossed around like a jump on a bouncy castle. The batteries must be crap to only give them 7 years warranty.
It’s a motorway and B Roads, the roads are crap at best, hence the movement in the gimbal, most manufacturers give a 7 or 8 year warranty. Why mention things that are noticeable, not everything needs documenting.
That must have the Msport Pro Pack @ £2625 extra, which nearly puts you at the M50 price.... decisions decisions
It does. Which one are you going to go for, @C22RLD *A
Not sure yet, need to see what the figures do on Salary Sacrifice, some early indications though can put me into the edrive40 with that msport pro pack for a similar monthly payment as my petrol BMW 128ti on PCP. Add to that fuel savings id be better off. However the M50 will probably be roughly the same total outgoings as my current car inc fuelling but im a sucker for an M Badge @@PlanetautoUK
Very nice car but why do you hog the middle lane?
You ask this when I point out it’s snowy and icy I’m in a rear wheel drive car and there are two crashes due to weather severity… one being an AMG with impeccable road holding - being in the middle lane allows a higher chance of being able to recover from a spin rather than stacking it straight into the barrier if I was in the first lane. The fact you’re asking after watching is at the very least troubling. In normal circumstances we wouldn’t have travelled however it was a launch.
PS in normal circumstances I’d presume you were just curious and answer less mercenary / black and white however you used the word ‘hog’ therefore I felt this was not the case.
I want a black one.
That would look sinister as, Nick 😎
Have a black one with the Shadowline trim. When people ask if that's my car I reply _"No, the Fairy Godmother gave it to me for the ball. We have until midnight when this thing turns back into a Darth Vader action figure..."_
That’s awesome 🦇
Not being judgemental but it woukd be better to change tge way you hold the wheel. Especially nowadays your hand should holding the wheel 3-9 not above the steering
I was taught 10 to 2 however it’s pretty much what feels comfortable bar off-roading where it’s a strict regime with thumbs tucked in . The fact is before not too long no body will be steering the car will. How did you find the video John?
@PlanetautoUK very nice video real life revuew actually. But one thing to say I am almost sure that befirevthe start of the trip the previous ride was aggressive that's why the car recouped miles mostly
@johnales79 it can’t have been it was delivered on a wagon, the weather was if you remember extremely cold and warmed up for snow. That’s what I put it down to.
@johnales79 thank you for the feedback 😊
10 and 2 was discouraged as soon as airbags became prevalent. Should the airbag deploy while your hands are that high on the wheel, it tends to fling your arms away from you. Holding the wheel lower ensures that the airbags will push your arms towards your lap during a crash.
Do t think I will subscribe, blatantly obvious he was driving with aircon off, look at the rear passenger windows and his drivers window.
Could I see through the windscreen? I’m Northern I drive with the windows down in winter on my own😀, plus we were damp. Each to there own, ta for commenting mind
