    You should try using maxigrow and maxibloom for tomatoes and peppers and compare the yield to Aerogardens Nutrients.

      Yes, that experimentation is in my list. I prefer to keep it simple so that we don't lose the comfort of Aerogarden. That's why I use only Maxi Gro and I use it on short-lived plants only, and change water frequently, so that the pH, ppm, etc. gets reset with every water change. But I really wanted to grow tomatoes using non-Aerogarden nutrients at least once.

      Hi Amit, I found that it's not necessary to change water every 4 weeks. Here is what I am following these days.
      I clean them
      1) After each planting i.e. end of the full cycle. This works for all short crops like lettuce, Bok Choy, cilantro, Radish, etc.
      2) 45 days after starting the big crops like tomato, cucumber, pepper, etc plants. They produce a lot of roots initially and get into the pump and the water sensor. So, I reset them and clean up the bowl thoroughly at this point.
      3) Between each crop cycle. For example, tomatoes take about 100 days for first crop, and 70 days for each subsequent crop. So, I clean them between each crop.
      Overall, I try to clean the gardens every 60-80 days. We often think that the plants are doing fine and cleaning is not necessary but plants will always thrive in a clean bowl.

    Please grow lavender if you can. There was a video up by someone else saying you cannot do it but it has such a lovely smell all over the house and also is in pudina (mint) family. I love your videos. Thank you.

    • @aerogardenexperiments

      Aphids are extremely attractive to Lavender, and I have a huge Aphid infestation problem. That's why I am holding the Lavender experiment for a long time (meanwhile, finding a successful way to prevent Aphids). I hope I can do that experiment one day.
      But if you need a tip for Lavender, just start with multiple pods with about 10 seeds in each pod. Lavender has extremely low germination rate and it's super slow. So, wait for 2-3 weeks for the seedlings to show up. Even after the germination, it grows very slow but it will eventually bloom.

      My mom successfully grew lavender in one of her Aerogardens. She had purchased one of the AG seed kits that had lavender as one of the pods. I was skeptical it would grow for her because lavender seeds need cold stratification, plus she said it had a lot of negative reviews on the AG website but to both our surprise they germinated for her just fine and grew to flower quite well.

    When you say you add 1 tsp nutrients with every feeding of the harvest model, how often are you doing that (how often is your tank being filled with 1 tsp of the nutrients)? I need to top off my plants almost every day. For example, should I dissolve 1 tsp of the Maxigro into 1 gallon of water and just use that to top off daily, then repeat this again once that gallon jug is empty?

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  2 роки тому +2

      Very similar to Aerogarden nutrients, I dissolve 1 tsp of nutrients in 100-200 ml of water and dump into the bowl. When I top off the water, I just fill plain water. I never top off with nutrient water.

    I sometimes get dried brown edges on lettuce greens using just Aerogarden nutrients. I read this could be calcium deficiency. Some varieties also grow leaves that seem more delicate than they should be or they bolt too much. I'm not sure if Maxi Grow would be better.

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  2 роки тому

      It's not the calcium deficiency. It's because the lettuce plants fail to distribute the calcium equally through out the plant. The amount calcium available in both Aerogarden nutrients or the Maxi Gro is good enough for the plants.
      I don't know how to fix this problem but I just harvest the leaves as they grow big enough, and discard any brown stuff.

    So because your using half a teaspoon per liter of water in all your hydroponic systems.... The aerogarden bounty is what 4 liters??? So does that mean I have to put four half scoops of maxi gro into a small bottle of water dissolve all that powder in a bit of water in the bottle then dump all of it into the aerogarden bounty???? This seems confusing how to use maxigro
    You did many videos using maxigro in the harvest but how come no video how to use maxigro in bounty, that video would really help the confusion

    • @aerogardenexperiments
      @aerogardenexperiments  10 місяців тому +2

      I use MaxiGro only for herbs and leafy green vegetables. Harvest is well enough to grow any herb or leafy green vegetable. I use Bounty for bigger fruiting plants like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, etc, and I use Aerogarden nutrients for any fruiting plant. This is the reason I never used MaxiGro in Bounty.
      Coming to the MaxiGro usage in Bounty, Yes, Bounty capacity is 4.1 liters. So, if you fill the water to the max level, then dissolve 2 teaspoons of dry nutrients in a small bottle of ~100ml. Once the nutrients are dissolved, dump it into the bowl.
      Going forward, whenever you need to refill the water, mix half a tea spoon of nutrients for every 1 liter of water and refill the bowl.
      MaxiGro recommends 1-2 teaspoons per gallon of water. I go with max which is 2 teaspoons per gallon and it is working well for all the herbs and leafy green vegetables so I am sticking to it. 2 teaspoons per gallon is almost close to half a teaspoon per 1 liter of water.
