Yeah, he was originally the guitarrist and vocalist on their debut (Oracles). He was also the singer for another powerful death metal band from Italy, Hour of Penance.
I have to say I like Francesco's Growl very much but I couldn't pick one over the other (this here being Tommaso's who was their singer for a long time in between). Tommaso is kind of easy in a good way, raw-but-smooth (can't really describe it), while Francesco just seems more brutal, more ... earthy.
Big facts. I was kinda scared the first time I saw them, they’re one of my favorite bands and I didn’t want a bad live performance to ruin them for me, but they didn’t disappoint.
The drums you hear is what is called "Blast Beat". It basically means, that a drummer plays the rhythm with a maximum speed on drums. Yes, the drummer does it. And blast beats are glorious. :D
@@connorbray8009 I know there is a technique behind it, I am a drummer, I just don't know how to describe blast beats best. I was just writing to explain that this type of fast drum beat is a normal thing in death metal. You can describe blast beats the way you want.
@@maehelsinki6464 depends on the blast and depends on the technique you use. If you use full wrist action it can eventually tire you out, especially at the speeds Francesco paoli is doing it. If you use correct technique with your fingers it’s perfectly possible to keep it up for 5 minutes or more at this speed however it’s a hard technique to learn. As for double kick/bass drumming it also depends on the speed and technique used. For example this drummer uses predominantly swivel but at this speed most would use heel-toe technique
@@spacebory Hey ! As a drummer, I'd like to agree with what you said for the blast beat part ^^ From what I saw from some of his live performances, for the blast beat, he uses different techniques for his left hand and right hand ^^ But about the question of it being tiring, i'd say that (like the double bass drumming) it's pretty much a matter of endurance ^^ But it's a thing that mostly comes from practice x) However, from those live performances, I saw that Francesco mostly uses the heel-toe technique (° °) But whatever technique he's using for these fast bass drum parts, i'd say that the reason (aside from using proper technique) that he doesn't seem tired is because of conditioning (° °) In a lot of Fleshgod's songs (Kingborn, The Imposition, A million deaths, etc.) we can find those parts, so I think that while practicing, he also focused a lot on how long he could keep playing the parts without tiring or loosing consistency in his sound (° °) That's pretty logical, I know, but I thought that it could be interesting ^^ Also, sorry if I sounded rude or anything in what I said ^^'
Their new drummer is absolutely insane. Please make a reaction of Eugene Ryabchenko. He did a drum cover of this song and he became their new drummer because of it. It's absolutely mind-blowing to watch, even if you're not a drummer
I second this! Eugene's play throughs are insane. There is also a very little known drummer on YT named Franco Almeida Baterista who does a JAW DROPPING play through of The Hypocrisy, *highly* recommended. It's right up there with Eugene, if not better!
This was exactly the reaction I hoped for. I've seen these guys live and it's an immense show, despite how cramped on stage they usually are. In the following album they brought in an Opera singer too!
I was able to see them live a few years ago, and I've never at any other show seen someone turn every head in the building like their drummer did for his WARM UP after sound check. If I hadn't been there myself to see him I never would believe he truly can play that fast that long. The man is a god on drums.
If you watch him play live, he switches from left foot to right foot to play the “slower” blast beats so he can give each led a break. The super fast double bass is a technique called heal toe. you can get a quick double stroke out of each foot with a slide of the foot. Super talented and technical speed drummer. He can also play every instrument in the band and has rotated around. Very talented man.
I'd love to see more Fleshgod Apocalypse with some newer songs, like The Fool, Sugar, Minotaur, or Monnalisa. The classical bits are a bit more prominent and ingrained in the music, which makes it kinda more interesting imo
Same I have literally never been more excited for a reaction video than I was seeing this in my recommendations. It's funny they're my 3rd favorite band but I get more excited showing people Fleshgod Apocalypse (though I choose Epilogue to introduce them) than I do showing them my top 2, maybe because my top 2 are bands that get a lot of hate well more so my #1 pick it's mostly Metal Elitists that hate Linkin Park which is my 2nd favorite so I got to balance it out the hate with the heaviest Symphonic Metal band out there that there's no way could be hated.
The drummer, Francesco Paoli, is not actually a drummer but has served as bass player, guitar player, and chef. He just took up drumming duties for a few albums. Really, he’s a master at that heel-toe double technique on the bass drum which actually makes playing this possible. Only their new drummer, Evgeny Ryabchenko can really cope and play things tight and quick. Amazing musicians.
My first time hearing these guys were live actually. I remember they opened up on Summer Slaughter. I was walking through the venue while they were doing a sound check and the drummers blast beats literally stopped me in my tracks. Awesome band. One of my all time favorites. Favorite song from them has to be Cold as Perfection.
For more symphonic sound check out this [L] - Lorna Shore - Immortal / Death Portrait [S} - Shadow of Intent - Malediction / Gravesinger I also recommend [O] - Orbit Culture - Open Eye / Redfog / Nensha / Saw
Part of how the drummer is able to go so fast for so long (on the feet) is a technique called heel-toe, where you roll your foot from back to front on the pedal, which lets you get two hits on the bass drum each time you drop your leg
That drum beat is called a blast beat, and pretty common in metal. The technique is after you hit the snare, your wrist goes up but you let the stick fall on the snare drum while you move up
Funny thing about the drummer in this video, Francesco: he used to be the frontman for their first album, then switched to drums shortly afterwards. He was playing drums for maybe a year when this album came out. He switched back to being their frontman in 2017 because he felt more comfortable there, but this dude is a monster all around. Edit: If you really want your mind blown by his drumming, watch a drum video of him playing the song "Elegy." Francesco himself has said in livestreams that it's incredibly difficult to play and they don't even want to play it live anymore because of how intense it is on drums.

Fleshgod Apocalypse takes an operatic soprano with them on tour. And it was one of the most insane gigs I have ever seen. He played flawlessly, even though he was sick. So, that's a story 'bout this band. They're fucking insane! Hail from Finland all the way to Italy!
Im so glad this was your first Fleshgod song.
Deeeefffinitely checkout their song "The Fool"
Itll give you stanky face
[L] Leprous - slave (live from Rockefeller Music Hall
Leprous - Contaminate Me (live from Rockefeller Music Hall)
Leprous - Third Law (live from Rockefeller Music Hall)
React to No - Fleshgod Apocalypse! Their new single and it's amazing. Newer Fleshgod is more refined and even better in my opinion.
"How could he be doing it for that long?" Because he's a machine.
Ahhhhhh Fleshgod is SOOOO GOOD. This song is so incredible. Their other stuff is incredibly good as well.
For G, I’d definitely go with Gojira’s Oroborus. It’s ultra groovy, and pretty heavy too.
For G you GOTTA do Gloryhammer - "Hootsforce"!!
For G - Gojira - The Art of Dying
I've seen these guys live, and it is exactly as awesome and intense an experience as you would imagine. Highly recommend it if things ever get back to normal.
Thats what i ment, dude. The drummer, Francesco Pauli, is a fkng machine! Now he is the singer and a guitarist.
This band deserves so much attantion. I love them
Gojira - The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe.
Alex done that before, it's Gojira - Art of dying time:)
I love this one
@@dreaboria3323 ya its really good my favorite song from mars to sirius album.
Fleshgod Apocalypse takes an operatic soprano with them on tour. A thing to know is that the drummer in this video had only switched to drums a few years previous, and is now back to playing rhythm guitar and lead vocals (his original spot in the band). Having seen them live, the only term for it is "awe inspiring".
"G" for GOREFEST - 'Erase' !!!
One of my faves here! I LOVE FLESHGOD APOCALYPSR
You know what this reminds me of?
The Band Origin. You should react to any of their songs from their album Antithesis.
Fucking hell yes to Origin
@@vietnamd0820 when it comes to speed, aggression and pure technicality, they are perfect 🤘🤘🤘
..FA are amazing humble dudes...i saw hem live twice here in Guatemala...and got some pics with them .. that killer drumer in the vid is now their singer and guitar player ...Francesco Paoli.. glad you liked it ...
Well, now you have to do Septicflesh for S to get allllll the flesh.
The more videos I watch from you, the more I love your channel! You fucking rock dude 💕
G: Gloryhammer - The Fires of Ancient Cosmic Destiny
Yup. My GH CD *just* arrived yesterday. :)
"His wife must be happy" 🤣🤣🤣
G has to be a Gojira song🤘🏻
The Art of Dying or Oroborus🔥🤘🏻
Fuck Gojira
nah how about fuck u? gojira is awsome dude🤘🏻
@@florianbauer7543 Please do explain what exactly about them is so "awesome". Or even "original".
Tried listening to "Stricken", their epic, legendary fail called "Flying Whales" (one of the most mind-numbing, sleep-inducing metal tracks I've ever heard), "Art of Dying" and I'm pretty sure that at least one more.
In ALL cases, I couldn't wait for the song to be over, because I really couldn't find anything interesting in their instrumentation, that hasn't already been done 1000 times before, by better bands.
For instance, the first time I ever heard "Stricken" all I could think of was "why does this sound so much like Korn?!"
Also, everybody praising Duplantier has probably never heard actual extreme drummers like George Kolias or Nick Barker or Hellhammer or the dude from Dying Fetus.
Seriously, Gojira fans give me the impression that they're not aware that death metal is actually a thing and far superior in terms of technicality, speed and complexity.
@@StirbMensch oh ok you‘re one of those people. i‘m definetly not gonna start an argument with somebody like you. i‘ve had enough of those with ignorant people😂
@@florianbauer7543 The only ignorance here is yours, insisting that Gojira is anything special when compared to proper extreme metal bands.
What's the other great artist you usually listen to? Drake? Britney?
Watch this drummer LIVE! You’ll be in even MORE disbelief of his endurance playing
G: Gorgoroth - Teeth Grinding
Alex was looking so scared in the thumbnail! It’s how most people would feel after hearing Francesco’s demonic vocals especially if they’re not into the genre😱
G- gorgoroth- carving a giant
Gojira- the gift of guilt live at Brixton academy
Carving a Giant or Destroyer.
Omg I've been waiting for this reaction for two years now! Finally!! 🤩
Just the reaction I wanted to see as well 😆 *mindblown*
For G I’d recommend Gaerea - To Ain
HE'S NOT STOPPING ! :D I died there laughing :D @alex you nailed it :D
