@@tonynewton5713 I don't have a passport. So BC is out for me. Maybe one of these days I'll get one, but for now I'm working too much to take a vacation like this.
With Thanksgiving coming up, I've been thinking about all the things I'm greatful for. About 5 years ago I suddenly fell quite ill with an infection in my heart and spent over a year in the hospital. I was only 45 years old but had to have heart valve replacement surgery. Due to some crazy complictions from the surgery and the medication they used to keep me alive, I ended up will necrosis in my hands and feet and needed to get all my toes amputated (fingers were all ok in the end). It was during my hospital stay that I first found your channel. The outdoors had always been a huge part of my life; prior to my ilness. I frequently enjoyed multiday back packing trips mostly in the Southwest. After the amputations, I was in a wheelchair for several months and went through physical therapy to learn how to walk and many other things I had always taken for granted. I've been back at work for a few years now, and I'm very happy to say that I'm now able to get arround and take care of myself and my family. I still have difficulty walking for more than a mile or two at a time and going up or downhill is especially difficult due to balance issues but I'm not complaining at all; its just something that I need to continue to work on and accept. Thoroughout my recovery, I always looked forward to your videos on Saturay morning. It was (and still is) a way to stay connected to something that I love to do vicariously. I guess this is a (very) long way of saying Thank You so much for your videos. They have meant a lot to me over the last several years.
Wow, thanks for sharing your story! I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, but I'm happy that my videos were a small source of entertainment and distraction for you. All the best with your continued recovery!
Every time I watch you do something I consider dangerous, like scurry down that slope, I have to remind myself of two things: 1. He's extremely skilled and knows his limitations, and 2. I'm watching the video so he made it out safely. 😂 What an amazing location. Thank you for taking us along.
What utter mindblowing beauty in British Columbia! The first shots of this video seemed almost like paintings of the mountains with their perfect forms. Love the glaciers & the crunchy sound when you walk on them. Hope the weather holds out for more of your epic exploring, Tristan. ❤😊
The distances can be deceiving, because of the size and scope of everything. It looks like it's right over there, but that's miles away. Seeing the Salmon glacier again just reminds me of how fast life goes on for us, but changes very little and slowly for nature. Thanks for taking us on an awesome trip!
The little area to the right of the Salmon Glacier is a lake which fills during the winter and spring. The Salmon freezes all the way to the rock and the melt waters accumulate to form the lake. In early summer that dam melts out and the water gushes under the Salmon and onward to the ocean. The ice blocks you see are actually grounded icebergs. Thanks for exploring the areas we can no longer hike but we still enjoy the areas our truckcamper can reach. During the summer there used to be "The Bear Man" who would daily set up at the upper view point and teach visitors about the glacier and bears. An ex pro basketball player he annually drove to Hyder from his home in the maritime provinces and would stop at high schools all the way across Canada and teach about bears and also play basketball against a 3 man team of high school athletes and nearly always won.
Reminds me of my younger days of backpacking in the mountains. I can again smell the fresh air and hear the rustling of the trees, the distant rivers cascading . Then the silence at night. Miss this as I’m now 74 and would not go alone hiking.
davidlaing7684 i am your age and my history is much like yours. neuropathy and bone-on-bone knees have curtailed my hiking days. however i am now car camping and loving it. good luck.
My favorite part? Everything between 0:00 and 31:16! This was amazing, Tristan!! I commented last week about Itchy Boots featuring the Salmon Glacier in one of her videos. She did an exceptional job showing it, but didn't get Nearly as close as you did! I have mad respect for you, sliding down that mountain to reach the glacier. I'm a nomad living out of a Ford Transit van. I'm currently in Arizona for the winter. You've convinced me to add this place to my bucket list. I have a few legal issues to resolve before I can enter Canada, but those are just a few hoops that I'll have to just through. Thanks for inspiring us with your hard work! It hasn't gone without notice!!❤
The view of the waterfall off the glacier was amazing. See the helicopter below you reminds of time I was at Grand Canyon at South Rim seeing helicopter below us. Perspective changes the depth and grandeur of the beauty.
Thanks so much for this! It's impossible to comprehend how huge the glacier is until you put yourself in the picture, so I'm really glad you always make the effort to do that.
Tristan! Another truly awe-inspiring video! I always cringe when you navigate mountains with loose rocks. 🥴 Your videos give us the opportunity to live vicariously through you, and that is so much fun! What a magnificent experience. We can really tell how it impacted you personally just being there. 🙂
The beauty of it, this would be one of those times to use the true meaning of the word 'awesome'. When you're old and gray, you will look back and say proudly, fondly and humbly "Been there, done that" ☺Thanks for my weekend excursion!
It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been in Hyder and surrounding area. Due to your video, I’m inspired to go back. It’s a beautiful and interesting area. Thanks for all your hard work.
Wow. Lovely. So glad you could make a hot cup of tea. It definitely doesn't look safe to go out on it! The closer you get the dirtier the snow looks. At 78 glad I am enjoying watching you do this instead of doing it myself!
It's s awe inspiring to be in the powerful presence of of a glacier. I think we need to put ourselves in our place once in a while. Lol. Happy and safe travels Tristan
A good friend took us near the top of of the Salmon Glacier about 15 years ago in a helicopter based in Stewart. Stunningly beautiful country and such an amazing experience. Your video makes me want to go back.
You're outdoing your own awesome adventures and filming! Gotta go see some glaciers. That helicopter below you was great for perspective. Then your drone shots of yourself really bring it home.
I bought one of those Spardar water heaters after I saw it on your channel back then. It's very handy. I don't heat the water to boiling since I'm only making instant coffee and don't have to let the water sit with a tea bag, so it only takes about 10-15 minutes. Great video, Tristan! I love the drone shots of the glacier. 👍
“Middle of Nowhere” is such a trite term, particularly when used to identify SOMEWHERE so special. We were right there in the summer of 23, and your excellent video brought back very fond memories. Your engaging documentation of travels to so many special SOMEWHERES is always appreciated.
This one is a really sweet video. The adventure you were having visiting the Salmon Glacier and the incredible views all around you. Two hikes would have been extra cool, 1) getting to the ice boulders and 2) getting to that water fall below the smaller glacier. You lucked out on good weather. Thanks for sharing.
I was actually in this area the last week of September as well, the days might have even overlapped! The drive into Stewart is one of the most beautiful I've ever done, and of course the whole region is incredible. If you're ever planning on going further north into Alaska in the future, be sure to check out Skagway - I spent my summer working there :) there's lots of great hiking around there and it's one of the only 3 towns in Southeast Alaska that you can drive to, with Hyder being one as well (and Haines being the third). The drive is also incredibly beautiful. My favorite hike in the area is to the Laughton Glacier - you can only access the trailhead by train (the White Pass/Yukon Route leaves from town and drops off/picks up hikers from the trailhead), and the trail takes you right to the foot of the glacier where you can actually easily get on top of it and walk around on it. When I went there was also a massive ice cave at the glacier terminus that I was able to go inside of, and was just surrounded by bright blue ice. It was honestly pretty life changing. Anyways, I always love your videos, and can't wait to see more of your northern adventures!
A very dramatic locale! Thanks for sharing....that big pile of tailings that you camped on top of was also quite dramatic....but not in a good way. I hope the weather holds out so you can explore another day!
I've been watching your adventures for years. Just wanted to say how outstanding your filming is. Especially since every scene of you hiking, climbing down a steep ravine, etc requires you to hike it at least 3x. Love your drone footage too. Thanks for all the great stories & content!
Thank you for bringing us along to this wild and dramatic place that we otherwise would likely never see. Your videography skills are next level and I look forward to seeing the next one. Though we’ve never met, as a long time viewer, you reside in a special place in my brain reserved for dear friends. Safe travels 🙏and please continue. 😊✅
Sights I would never see without you. And you are great at making it real by including the decisions and hikes to get there. I have been on cruise ships, tours, flights, and car camping in the area many years ago, so that helps me experience the things you express. A wonderful show. Thank you.
Once again Tristan- great video. I've made it a point to keep notes on your adventures. You've gotten me to go to the Grays River RD and the Green River Rd, both in Wyoming. A couple places in Utah, too. Thanks. We'll keep watching over your shoulder from Philipsburg, MT. Be safe out there!
One of the things on my "to do" list while full timing is to drive from Baja to Alaska. I will have to try to fit this location into that trip some how.
What an absolutely beautiful place to be and camp. As you were hiking down to the glacier I kept saying "he who goes down must come back up". I'm glad you did this trip. I want to do it so much as the views are amazing.
Seeing you walking on the glacier brought back memories of when I walked on the Root Glacier at Wrangell-St.Elias National Park in Alaska. Truly a unique experience. You have to experience it to truly appreciate it. Thanks for sharing 😊
I love this I’m so glad you hiked down to the glacier! In the 60’s my parents took us (4 brothers and I) To Glacier National Park and got to walk on a glacier. Can’t do that now melting. My girlfriend’s dream is to walk on a glacier, we have been to Iceland, no luck too far off the beaten path now. We went to Patagonia, to far off the beaten path. Looks like it might have to be a helicopter ride for us. It was amazing to see how tiny that helicopter was compared to the glacier. What an amazing video! I think the best ever ! Can’t beat the views!
You were right, Tristan, when you told me I would enjoy the next videos. My time in Hyder and nearby BC was special, but honestly I never considered going down the "cliff" to the glacier. (Of course, I've walked on several glaciers in Alaska's interior.) Once again, you've shown that you are brave and skilled in outdoor adventures. Keep it going.
Thank you for taking us where most of us will never go.
just go! it's amazing when you start getting out.
Thank you for watching and making it possible!

Don't worry, the scramble down to the glacier wasn't too dangerous 😁 Thanks for watching!
What utter mindblowing beauty in British Columbia! The first shots of this video seemed almost like paintings of the mountains with their perfect forms. Love the glaciers & the crunchy sound when you walk on them. Hope the weather holds out for more of your epic exploring, Tristan. ❤😊
Being there really did feel like being in a painting!
Thank you for the video
The sheer immensity of that landscape is astounding! Very happy you shared this :)

Just WOW ‼️ Thanks Tristan.😊👍 I've just loved all of this journey. ❤
Exquisite drone work. It really made us live the story. Thank you.
Thanks Mark!

The lake is shown on all of the maps I was looking at when I was there, but I didn't realize it was seasonal. Fascinating!

The view and walking on the glacier was amazing
It really was!
Love the views of the hanging glacier and it's waterfall!
Wasn't that cool?? Such a beautiful place.
What a great soundtrack, especially when you were on/at the Salmon Glacier. A dream location, thanks for showing us what is out there!
Thanks! It took forever to find a song I was happy with for this video 😄
After viewing your video, we are planning a trip to this area in 2025. Thanks!

Thanks Triston, This was actually a very unique opportunity to get up close to an incredibly different, Ice dominated, world!

Another “Best of SUV rving”!

Loved the image of you walking in front of glacier at 24:30 glad you made it safely and didn’t try doing too much, smart!
The footage of the helicopter was great!! 🏔️🚁
I couldn't believe how small it looked against the glacier!
This has to be your best video…but also one of the most dangerous treks you’ve taken. What a great trip!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

It’s breathtaking! I’m glad you were able to stay more than one night in BC. Hopefully, you can plan another trip there soon.
Wow is the word MrT👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😱
I really enjoyed this video, I think more than any of the others because you really are "out there" and I love that 💯🌞
Thanks!

Wow, what an amazing find! Love the views. Great effort by you getting down to glacier level-thank goodness you made it down and back up safely. 😮
oh my , loved it all. Another place I will maybe not make it to so thanks again.
Like another world from Tolkien’s books. Thanks!
Tristan your cinematography skills are beyond amazing

I love your RAV4 trips since I have the exact same year, make and model.
It's a great car!
Great stuff right there ! 🎉
Thanks!
Awesome trip! I hope to get up there in the next year or two. Thanks as always!
You definitely should!

Philipsburg is a great area! And the Green River Road is one of my favorite drives. Thanks for watching!
I can’t go there but I’m glad you could Tristan! Thank you! Glad you’re still in Alaska but I know you’re missing Cassie!❤️😀🇺🇸🌏
One of the things on my "to do" list while full timing is to drive from Baja to Alaska. I will have to try to fit this location into that trip some how.
What a lovely fantastic view, i really enjoy your video, thank you for sharing.
This is just Epic.
What an absolutely beautiful place to be and camp. As you were hiking down to the glacier I kept saying "he who goes down must come back up". I'm glad you did this trip. I want to do it so much as the views are amazing.
Going back up was the easy part!
Getting down to the glacier was a piece of cake for a rock climber! Thanks, nice views.
Would have been easier had it been solid rock 😄
I lived in Juneau Alaska for 10 years, that's exactly what it looks like in the mountains around the capitol city...
Sounds beautiful!! I’ve often wondered about living in Alaska. I’m very drawn to it-it’s like another world altogether.
I'd love to get there at some point!
Spectacular! Thanks!
Thanks!
Amazing video!
Thanks Steve!
Thank you for another great video!
Wow ! That's Awesome!! Now i really want to go to this place!!! Thanks for sharing this with us!!!! ❤
You definitely should!
Your walks in this video remind me of many walks in AK. How do you get there from here? Lovely place.
AMAZING!! You go on unbelievable adventure…..
That seems like a really good time to go.
Wowzers! Some beautiful footage of the glacier but that rock climbing down was unsettling 😂
It wasn't too bad 😁
Seeing you walking on the glacier brought back memories of when I walked on the Root Glacier at Wrangell-St.Elias National Park in Alaska. Truly a unique experience. You have to experience it to truly appreciate it. Thanks for sharing 😊
HI TRISTAN 👋
JUST BREATHTAKING SCENERY ✨️
THANK YOU ☺️ 🙏 BE SAFE 😊 🙏HAVE FUN 😊 🙏
Beautiful!
Just jaw-dropping footage !
Just another adventure for us. Thank you Big T
Thanks for your hard work to present such beautiful landscape
WOW!!! Incredible, immense landscape that you have shared with us beautifully!! Thank you for letting us adventure vicariously through your lens 😎
Wow. Beautiful. The glacier and your climb down. I was surprised at all the rocks on the surface of the glacier.
WOW Tristan 😍👌😍. Amazing and so beautiful.👏. Thank you for the great adventure.
Beautiful!! ☺️❤️
It really is!
I’ve got to put this on my list!!

I thought you were just looking at snow by your boots… until the helicopter flew over it, way below you! Awesome catching that! Great vid - of course!
I loved it. What a view
