The video didnt cache properly and it stopped running right after "Might be strong" and the comedic timing of that long silence was so good I thought it was part of the video for a second
i've been a sol one trick since the game came out. before slayer, the only characters i could say i could have as secondaries that i have time enough to even remotely claim i know how to play are baiken and elphelt
there is no character in the game that has felt the same way sol did to me as he did at the beginning of season 1 when the game first launched
no character has felt like that to me, until slayer came out
and i feel unchained
i am confident he will get nerfed. but im also confident his backdash will get buffed and that the nerfs he does get will not seem significant at a glance

If I were to nerf Slayer, I'd nerf his Tension gain. The power of his supers would be offset by the relative cost, plus his RC combos(especially from DS mixups) wouldn't be as easy to get. He'd still hit like a truck and do Slayer stuff but now he wouldn't be able to get as much meter for finishing off the opponent in 2 touches. Plus it'd offset his Pilebunker giving him INSTANT FUCKING WALLBREAK

Slayer is a nightmare in lower floors. Slayer doesn’t reward knowledge or skill, the high damage is still the same for a beginner button masher as for good players. I also wouldn’t call it unrealistic that lower-floor players don’t know how to take advantage of Slayers poor and predictable movement, making those weaknesses moot, leaving you with a super powerful character that is in your face if they want to with seemingly no way to stop him. Luckily I don’t see him often in lower floors, either because he carried his players out or because he’s paid DLC (which opens the door for pay-to-win accusations if he doesn’t get nerfed)

that is certainly something. I've seen it before but I'm curious as to what aba, elphelt, and johnny had before. I play faust and I pretty much curbstomped all of these characters in the first 2 weeks but slayer, I immediately started having trouble like day 3

i can keep him out for ages and keep piling on items and damage but he gets in once and i die instantly almost every time
also typically all the slayers im up against are signifcantly worse than most players i fight but they win anyways
Eh. The statistics bias new characters heavily. The rating of the 100th ranked slayer is the 50th ranked Sol. Lots of top players are using him. The proportional chart is better, but still shows how he’s still very strong.
The stats are also just kinda useless for determining strength. For example if we use those stats as power marking then Millia is stronger than Nago in top 1000, proportional, and top 100. And pretty much everyone can agree Nago is better than Millia. Slayer is definitely strong and probably top 5, but puddle farm wont really show us that for a few months til his popularity goes down.

Slayer never loses. They rely a lot on gimmicks and those gimmicks will carry easily to celestial. If some wants to escape the tower. Slayer is the answer.

Honest to God, I was in floor 3 when slayer came out, mostly playing Nago. I spent a couple days with Slayer and I'm in Floor 5. I welcome the nerf, I'll keep playing him no matter what.
He will definitely be used in competitive, and will be top tier, the only thing that I think can be holding him back (and rightfully so) is his movement.
I don't think you properly conveyed how predictable his movement is, ive genuinely lost matches due to the opponent predicting his movement and punishing accordingly.
And that's me in casual floors, so I think high rank players and competitive players will be able to identify it and punish him hard.
I think personally he'll be simular to high level potemkin players ( better obviously) very predictable but requires constant pressure because they can do a comeback at any time.
Also simply jumping against slayer does ALOT for the MU. his 6P doesn't do him much and the guarantee button is 214P/K~HS to almost fly swatter you. He truly relies on you staying on the ground so he can pilebunker loop. If your not on the ground he can't do anything. Also helps he doesn't have a DP solidify his strong ground and weak air game.
Me personally coming from a bridget main and picking up slayer, Slayer is easily the best A tier character. A couple moves could get a nerf but I just don't see him being S tier to the likes of Leo or Happy Chaos. He simply has high damage and LOTS of plus frames (Seriously a main strat is to 5P>5P>236K to carry to corner and it's plus as fuck)

After playing HC for a few months (and being bad) playing slayer makes me feel like practice worked even though it was a completely different character because he is too strong
"Bad defense"
-Metered reversal that is fully invincible for 90% of it's duration
-A poor backdash, but one that comes with a counterattack (Hand of Doom)
-A teleporting stepdash that goes through the opponent, allowing for some very creative ways to escape pressure, especially in the corner
-Really good anti-airs in the form of 6P (obviously), c.S, and It's Late.
-4th highest effective health (excluding mana barrier Asuka)

kinda the same as the teleport, but if your in the corner you can use 214P and then pilebunker to get free wall, kinda risky tho, except against other slayers, on them it works 90% of the time
It’s definitely bad. He’s still broken, but the metered reversal losses to jabs because it takes too long to come out. Backdash is such an important tool that losing it sucks. The counterattack isn’t invincible so it’s kinda useless.

Ive played testament for the longest time, and man I have never felt so miserable playing the game. While testament is a low tier, holy shit it makes no sense getting half my health taken away, or not being able to do an attack because of how fast slayer is.

unlike chaos who was awkward and hard but broken, slayer is easy broken, which is more frustrating cause of the "your carried!" factor, but a positive is slayer will probably not survive for 2 years un nerfed like chaos did

I've swapped from Gio to slayer and even tho loosing the great movement hurt, I simply win more because he's just a bit too strong for low level players to deal with. It's so easy to win against a better player simply by landing one lucky hit.

i used to be on floor 9... i felt like i was begetting better, gg was my first fighting game, and i felt like finally, i was working things out... and than slayer dropped.

@icepl831 most characters in this game (and a lot of other fgs) can "skip neutral". Skipping neutral is part of neutral for that matter. When you lack a fundamental understanding of fighting games we're allowed to say skill issue

Slayer's biggest advantage is that hes so tilting. The difference between this game and Xrd/The X Series is that hes just actually busted in this game.
Ngl as someone who absolutely hated Dizzy in previous games, after the dumbed down versions of Aba and Slayer I kinda want her (or even Justice) back so I can teach those doofuses some respect for neutral. I would really love to do this with my main but Anji still sucks, three years after release. Good vid as always

Anji doesn't suck at all. In fact, I feel like he's one of Slayer's worst matchups

In fact he was pretty much nerfed in S3, as aside from finally being able to punish safe pokes with fish (if the opponent doesn't have 50 meter to do yrc) and doing a neutral check with nagiha (which is minus on block so already worse than slayers mappa hunch) he also lost cool combo conversions with fujin ch's, his only saving grace up to S3. Not that he is unplayable or anything, I would in fact recommend him as a char for the new players. He's just way worse compared to the others when it comes to floor 10 and upwards.
@@sidsscrumpy1647 he does a ton of damage. Can combo of off so much more now thanks to the 5k change, he has a tone of life and on top of that his neutral isn’t even that bad anymore thanks to spin being scarier and the constant threat of instant nagiha.

You can stop most of his approaches with 6p and throw about half of his mixups. I'd say he's only top tier below 9f.

Slayer is another low level demon. He’s extremely easy to play, quite a bit harder to counter.
He’s quite good at the high level but it’s mostly low level players complaining about him being ”broken”
The most annoying part of this character is the fact that around 60-70% of people are still playing him right now. At this playrate, the strengh is not even the most important part, he definitely needs a nerf to bring versatility bach into the game.
Goldlewis main here and been playing strive since Xbox port. The one thing Slayer could use a nerf on, is damage. I feel like his damage is where the game used to be before season 3 patch. His damage really doesn’t make sense for the difficulty to achieve it. On the other hand, I’ve had decent success slowing him down with well-timed pokes.
Slayer isn't op, he overestimated the growth of the cast.

oh yeah, for casuals he’s definitely broken, but at intermediate and high-level play he’s just around high tier. I think when you make videos like this though, you should definitely get more opinions than just the casual ones so that way you can tell the full story of the characters balance.
Slayer's WR in the top 1000 is higher than any other character currently. I think it is fair to say he is top tier at all levels of play.

Mainly his backlash jump cancels and unorthodox yet slippery movement options him being able to give untypical options invincibility frames and his old 6p gave him so much identity as a char with midling to slow normals. It makes me feel rather forlorn that even his legacy stuff has been taken away to homogenise him with other characters.I mean they made dandystep into another basic mixup stance when it used to be a general tool in neutral. I don't want another character that plays like may or Leo whitefang I want SLAYER

@@eveisunavailable mixer is an apt metaphor given that even characters of which before had their own tastes and nuances to gameplay have been blended up into a congealed slurry of removing bars to entry by eliminating previously legacy quirks slayer was a slippery character that used the invincibility he could use on his moves to contest the fact that he had relatively slow moves it was interesting and what made me enjoy guilty gear in the first place. He no longer has these things with the only thing these two have in common is damage potential which is not what attracts me to slayer his dandy step has lost much of its signature appeal and quirks with the fact that you can just go forward without the weave now you just use it as a mixup/combo tool instead of its usual app. In neutral or risky counter hits. I recognise things change like supers or new special moves however slayers Access to invincibility frames and slippery movement makes him slayer and without these things he's just another closer range nagoryuki In terms of gameplay and tools.
