Any word on whether MSI are supporting ECC memory this time around? It's something that ASUS and ASRock support on most of their boards and it looks like Gigabyte have started to support it on certain boards now too.
Are you talking about boottimes in general or on specific MSI AM5 Boards ? Because the boot times arent that long anymore even with 192 GB and modules in all 4 Slots there is no real problem, if you want proof of that i can direct you to a Build Video but i will wait for a answer. I don't think i should post a link to another UA-cam channel 🤔

I skipped the first AM5 boards and CPUs when they were released because I already had 2 AM4 systems and was pretty well set up with a 5800X3D in the main rig and a 5800X in the second system. But I'm now planning an AM5 build. Case, fans and power supply (all Lian Li as always) are already here and I'm just waiting for the new boards to launch. But instead of getting one from Asus like before, I'll probably go for one from ASRock this time.
Is there any new interesting MATX boards or no? It's so sad the current matx boards are not very interesting and I was thinking of getting the A3 wood.. just stressing about full ATX psu and a 4080
Unfortunately not for X870, AMD prioritize ATX and EATX as they're more popular. I did cover a good MSI matx b650 board a while ago, pretty good features for the price.

As in the boot times? They've fixed those with the new BIOS'. One of my creator friends MSI for testbenches and he confirmed the boot times are fast now.
The extra power connector is for the extra power to the PCI lanes but this is a terrible position for it as it limits what card you can put in PCIe slot 3. Lots of use 3 GPUs and that slot has a dual card in it. Interested to see how ProArt handles this as their x670e does it well.
This is the first time I've heard that a single person uses three GPUs nowadays let alone lots do 😅 If you need three I don't think you'll be looking at a cheaper board anyway, people will be looking at the ProArt or HEDT.
@@jordanash That's the speed, I asked about the number of lanes, just looked at the video again and it looks like the middle slot is 1 lane and the bottom slot is 4 lanes, so it won't be suitable for my needs, Gigabyte it is then.
Isn't this a downgrade on the X670E tomahawk as it only features a single Promontory 21 chipset so will have just 12 lanes available from the board rather than the dual 21 chipsets and 20 lanes available on the X670E tomahawk?
Good point, maybe they'll bring this out at a cheaper price and bring out an X870E in the future 🤔 Will definitely cover this in my roundup where I can talk about performance
@@jordanash I doubt it'll come in cheaper in fact I think what they have done is essentially rename B650E to X870 for the purpose of increasing the price.

my choice of x870 is gonna be the asrock x870 nova wifi. only because of the power phaze. I normally buy msi only msi. but this round of boards asrock is delivering big time. the tai chi is 24+2+1 thats really nice. the nova is gonna be 20+2+1 which is better than any of the msi boards exept the god like board/ and that board is gonna be like 1500.00. im good on that.
Yep same choice as mine, I'm only sticking with asrock and already told my local shop to preorder the Asrock x870e Nova Wifi once available at the end of this month
@@justinhawk835 not for me then, I have used their motherboards since Intel z270 until AMD now for each generation, maybe it's my country that provides the warranty is fine as each country is different, but same thing can be said about each motherboard brand, just look at the "biggest or best" Asus, and how far they fallen. But gotta say, nowadays asrock is not like before, their quality is as top as it gets, for me, better then other brands
For things that you don't need loads of bandwidth for. Also if you haven't got the dual chipset to support all USB 3, then at least you've got USB 2 over just nothing else.

Ram support can be improved with bios updates. Reminds me of the time someone called me untrustworthy because at the time of filming it only supported 128 and when he commented there were new BIOS' and it could support 192 🙃
I'd recommend emailing MSI to ask about this as I don't usually cover WiFi when using it in a build, sorry. I'm an advocate for using ether net where possible, then poweline adapters after anyway.

Yeah as there's no need for it really. You could only use it with an 8000 series processor, and there's no point in getting a Gen 5 GPU/CPU supporting motherboard when the CPU can only use up to Gen 4 anyway, just as well get a B650.
Thats the only board i found around 300 euros ( 340 $ ) with 2xm2 5.0 slots so far.. Or am i missing something... The prices are bit off rnw to expenisve tbh...
@@jordanash sorry i don't really understand the problem with the "CPU lanes" thing, what is wrong with the Tomahawk ? Putting NVME in the first NVME slot will down the performance of the GPU ?
The X870 have one chipset and the X870E have two. The E just allows use of more devices, but for most people who only need to use a single GPU and NVME it's not a problem
Ah I meant best as in the price to performance of what I've currently looked at. I think I mentioned that in the video. But as I've said to others, if you're serious about sound then get a sound card. It won't matter then and you can keep it for future upgrades. I have one and haven't looked back.
All of these X870 seem to have four, if you need more then get a raid card or SAS card. This is still the best board of the X870 boards I've covered so far.
@@gholg8074 4 sata is more than enough you can easily buy 10tb hdd above for $150-200 4 sata will net you 40tb. No points giving you 10 sata ports if you are just using 2-4tb hdd.
I forget how big drives can get nowadays. Yeah, I doubt anyone will need more that that and if they do they'd be running a server or raid/sas for sure.
Well like the other person said, they keep getting better. I didn't get these all at the same time, so when something comes in that's a lot cheaper than others yet has more features, it's going to be the best I've looked at *so far.* Others might replace that spot if they improve again, and if so I'll change the title on the last.

If you're going to try and massively overclock your GPU it can be, but 99% of people won't need it.
