Hi Laurent, After 12 years, my old PC system (AM3+ with an FX CPU) died this August. It took me a lot of time to compare all the necessary components for the new build. Just when I thought I had finally found my new system (B650 motherboard, etc.) and was about to order the parts online, your video popped up on UA-cam. Since I’m building an entirely new system, I changed my decision and ordered the MSI X870 Tomahawk (with an AMD R9 7900X and DDR5 6000 CL30). I think my new system will more than meet my needs 😃. Thanks for the helpful video that guided my purchase decision 👍. Greetings from Vienna/Austria!
Hi Laurent, Thanks for this review. Did you notice that the Intel one : MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI, has only a 6-layer PCB according to MSI's website ? Did you already notice this difference of treatement between 2 platforms in the past ?
Quel mini bordel le coup de l usb4 qui saute avec le 2eme port nvme occupé...finalement c etait le bon temps quand on sacrifiait les ports sata... Once again great video! thank you!
This board sounds quite good, but does not look good. The green accents. Any recommendations on what I could use to remove or cover them nicely if I do end up buying this board?
I enjoy your video's so much. I may have asked before but what accent am I enjoying so much? is it french or french canadian or something altogether different. either way I love you accent.
MSI in my opinion has some of the best looking boards also the highest rate of failure. Source: 20y experience and a friend who works at a popular online store in the RMA dept.
Thanks Laurent. Currently rocking an MSI x570s Ace Max with 5900X system. I might be at a place to build a new system early next year. Hopefully by that time, we'll see the realities of the 9000 series X3D CPUs and if it's worth abandoning thoughts of a 7800X3D I really wish we could get a redesign on these MBs to NOT hide the M.2s underneath the GPU. I don't wanna have to keep ripping out my GPU just to get at them. Maybe only way is with an E-ATX form factor...
I always liked your reviews. They are very thorough when it comes to the features of the motherboards and is greatly appreciated. Having said that, have you considered adding any type of benchmarking to your reviews? On paper, a mobo can be great and have all the features and cooling, VRMs, etc, but may choke under load, even from a reputable brand. I've noticed for example watching mobo round-ups from Hardware Unboxed, that even "premium" brands like Asus have been putting out mediocre (and overpriced) boards and lower tier companies like ASRock have improved the last couple of gens. So yeah, it would be helpful to get your opinion on how these boards perform, in addition to their features.
Great review! - The mainboard producers should change their mind, and bring us boards with four Gen5 x4 M.2 slots, that can be.throttled down to x2 and x1, switched off or redirected to "chipset", iot raise the bandwidth for the Gen 5 PCIe slots to x8 or even x16..This way, up to four Gen5 x4 M.2 drives could become the new norm immediately!!!
Salut, May I ask, do you "review" the Board, Put it in your PC, and Test RAM and CPU settings? Or is your "Review" Just a theoretical list of features?😀 Cheers
I'm actually building my new gaming PC this week after hanging on to my Current Gaming PC after 11 years (This month). 😅 I ended up purchasing this Motherboard after having my Gen 3 MSI Motherboard for so long. So I'm excited to put it together! I did have a quick question though. I bought a M.2 NVMe Samsung 990 EVO SSD to use as my OS install drive, and I plan on connecting it to the M.2_1 slot for PCIe 5.0. Do I leave that black cube that's in the M.2 slot alone (It looks like it's meant to support the NVMe SSD), or is it meant to be removed?
The motherboard only does 5.1 on optical out, and most optical amps cost a big price, would of been nice for the mother board to have a soundboard to have a 7.1 surround sound jacks instead, why are they removing those the last few gens. ive noticed a lot of motherboards cheeping out on the sound card.
I have to send in my Aorus B650 AX V2 because of a fucked wifi card and I'm honestly considering getting this motherboard and just asking them to refund me for the faulty board instead of repairing it.
It's getting better and better ? Brosky we are talking about a board that used to be in the $200 price range with 500series that is now costing $300 ... yet you sit here excited that things get better and better ? Like thank god imagine if they were ripping you off and handing you a worse product at the same time 🤣. To judge if things are better and better you need to compare apples to apples which includes pricing my dude !
Dudeskinovich .. look how is destroyed the two last tomahawks in my reviews ... This is getting much better than the X670e or the Z790 max :)))) Love u 🤟😘
@@Laurentschoice Oh so you ''destroyed'' Tomahawk boards in your last reviews so you have to offset it with this one to not get MSI angry 😂. Jokes aside you still dodge the point . Your argument is it's better than X670 and while it is true that it is technically better ( how could it not be better otherwise 800series would not exist ) you have to keep in mind that X670 was MASSIVELY overpriced to begin with so you are not getting remotely as much as you should for what you are paying. Just as a reminder 2-3 gens ago you were getting enthusiast boards for that type of money, nowadays you get entry level to mid-tier at best . Does nowadays mid-tier provide more than 2-3 gens ago mid-tier ? It sure does but you are also paying much more for it so yeah that's the whole point .
@user-qq8ek4zs4s ah... I can't chatter to all the brands feelings :) ... Would not review a single product. ... I get Ur point though. So .. the point is .. prices didn't only stabilise ( which is a first in 9 years of reviewing ) but ... The x870 provides much much more bandwidth and pcie option than the X670 and arguably the X670e chipsets ... You also have all the additional DIY, troubleshooting (OLED screen) etc . And that's really satisfying to see :) I hope this clarified:))) And thanks for your comments .. I really appreciate your input :))
@@Laurentschoice I get your point aswell , at the end of the day you have to review a product and mention positives if/when they exist but yeah . Anyhow thank you for taking the time to answer . Cheers .

I've been a long-time fan of the Tomahawk aesthetic but this board with the lime green accents is just too ugly for me.
100% agreed! RGB you can turn off, ugly accent color you can't.
you can put some sticker or decol over it or something
Meanwhile its why i got it, i like how it looks 😅
@@antraxbeta23 whats the thing ,if you use two m.2 / pcie what do you lose ? Or anything as such ?
@ali09gaming58 i use the top and bottom m.2 slots, and for my use i see nothing, everything works perfectly
As always, great review. Can't wait for some Asrock boards reviews !!! ;)
Getting my MSI Mag X870 today
Nice review. I just implemented this with a 9950x last night, so far, I'm very happy with it.
I don't know if its your accent , energetic vibes or the informative content that I have subscribed
Thank you!❤
Take a look at the x870e nova, it's better than the taichi in my opinion, and cheaper.
Can't wait for his review on it! I've had my eye on the Nova as well!
Yeah, and Nova have NO lane sharing nonsense!
@@TheRelixo1 I think the only downside I see is that it doesn't have extra lanes for a capture card etc, but it's perfect if you don't use them.
I want that board as well even as to just collecting it, I have the Z790 Nova but damn that X870E Nova makes me want to switch sides LOL
that is the model i see here. I will get a peak today
thank you bro . I did buy but i dont try yet. it 's look amazing

Anyone with a respectable surround setup uses HDMI to a receiver. Surround jacks are pretty pointless.
X870E-Hero? Most of the reviewers don't cover them in depth
he praised a board....
damn...
Entry level he says. Looks at price tag…
X870 chipsets are on entry levels :)
I hope this clarified :)
Should i upgrade from the gigabyte x570 ? I play cod and photo edit. Is it worth it?
Oh yes it does .. but mainly if you go Nvidia 5000 to benefit from the PCIe 5.0 standard
Does it have an external clock generator?

Next msi mpg x870e carbon please....
Just finished the filming during the night . Give it a few days for the editting
