As a Kansas Citian, I'd like to see an interview that balances this one. People surfing UA-cam and coming across this interview could well thank that KC is a crime-ridden gangland. Not true. Like any large city, there's crime. But the large majority of KC is safe, clean, liveable, and attractive.

Great video, I actually went to high school with Abe and we were friends. Im glad that you took the time to interview someone who can actually speak to the crime. I grew up in a rough area of Kansas City...crime, drugs and violence along with mental health issues are the main reasons why there's so much crime in the inter city. Back in the 90s there was a lot of gang activity but now days the crime is different partially because of the social media factor. I remember a time when people only went after those they were beefing with but now they go after any and every body including children. I live on the Kansas side of Kansas City now, on the Shawnee/Turner boarder..most times its quiet and calm, the schools are pretty good for the most part but could always improve. The community is nice overall but there are small pockets of areas that can be fixed up...I feel comfortable where I am. I think Kansas City is a nice affordable city but just like other cities there are some downsides, I hate to say this but if you stay away from areas like Independence, the inner city, Grandview and certain parts of Raytown you may be able to avoid a heavy amount of crime. Don't go to unfamiliar places at night especially gas stations. Be careful about posting your house and job info on the internet and make your personal social media private. Crime is everywhere but unfortunately some parts of the city are worse. Get involved in the community if you have time...I do think a lot of the crime will level out within the next 5 or 6 years, there are so many community activist fighting for change. Anyway, thanks for your positive influence to Kansas City.

5 buildings I believe February 28th, 1987 they were HORRIBLE I heard so bad the police didn’t come there they were terrified you name it, it all happened in Wayne Miner the 5 buildings, also 57th swope Park, 27st Kensington, 43st Bellfountain & bannister rd nob hill. I’ve hung out in almost every block hood you can think of I have a HUGE family here in KC on both parents side so we are very popular & everywhere throughout KCMO! There are good neighborhoods & bad ones. You can have majority elders on one block in the city like near 40st benton or 39th & Myrtle where it’s nice peaceful relaxing no issues, but go over a block or two & there’s drama issues gun battles fights ect everyday! I personally can’t live in the urban core there’s too much poverty hate jealousy envy crab in the bucket mentality no one what’s to see the next man make it or do better than him! When I lived in the “HOOD” I all I heard ALL night was police sirens, helicopters, tires peeling, gunshots, ambulances, fire trucks, folks yelling & screaming drama chaos & confusion! It’s sad when you leave & go out of town & come home to find your back door was kicked in & 99% it was one of your neighbors who hang on the block all day drinking & smoking they seen you were gone & took the opportunity to come up “so they think” but karma is REAL! It’s sad to be honest how a lot of our folks are & how they think! BUT Let’s look into KCs history for a second #1 The KANSAS CITY MASSACRE also known as the “union station massacre” it was a bloodbath approx 4 cops
👮♀️🚓 lost their life June 17, 1933 they had revolvers 🔫 & went up against mobsters with machine/Tommy guns 🔫⚰️ It occurred as part of the attempt by a gang led by Vernon C. "Verne" Miller to free Frank "Jelly" Nash, a federal prisoner. At the time, Nash was in the custody of several law enforcement officers who were returning him to the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas, from which he had escaped three years earlier. #2 Harry S. Truman from Independence very corrupt, his presidential campaign was funded financially from a gangster a mobster named Tomas Joseph Pendergast who also supplied the plaza shopping center off J.C. Nichols rd named after the developer of the shopping center who also is another crooked mobster from Olathe, Kansas 25 min west of KCMO 8/23/1880-2/16/50. Tom Pendergast supplied JC Nichols with all its concrete when being built. Tom Pendergast was charged with tax evasion & sent to Leavenworth prison where he later died in prison January 26, 1945 Tom was from St.Joseph, Missouri an hour north of KCMO. #3 👏🏾 Thee first - 1st black wealthy family in ameriKKKa the early 1900s the “POTATO 🥔 KING OF THE WORLD” by 1902 Junius George Groves April 12, 1859 - August 17, 1925 out of Edwardsville Kansas about 22 minutes from KCMO 816 R.I.P. BROTHA
🙏🏾🕊🙏🏾 #4 Paul’s liquor store located off 55st & paseo owned & ran by Italians MOBSTERS still there today 2024 in a predominantly 99% black community since the 1960s! #5 Lafayette county in Missouri (city’s - Concordia higesville Odessa) just next door to KCMO Jackson county had the most black slave in the state of Missouri! Kansas City is FULL OF MOBSTERS EVEN HIGH UP IN THE GOVERNMENT! But I can’t say too much 🤫 From my personal experience as a ex-criminal gangster a gang member a man who moved around a lot & LOVED the street life, all this street stuff gangs & guns murders will NEVER go away! I’ve traveled to, operated, hung out & lived in many different cities & states throughout my life so I know a whole lot about the underground life in about MANY different states but I won’t dive too deep! but in all honesty this ALL comes from the 👺wicked evil white man the Neanderthal european caveman it was his plan to place colors in our the black community’s, along with gangs, drugs, liquor stores on majority of all our corners as well as pawn shops. The white man turned our neighborhoods into the “HOOD” us blacks have been lab experiments like rats mice/animals! They put crack in ALL our urban black communities across ameriKKKa 🇺🇸 in 1983/84’ that RUINED US TREMENDOUSLY THAT CRACK DID A MAJOR NUMBER ON US & WE STILL HAVENT RECOVERED FROM IT ! That gave us power money hope to start poisoning our own folks for financial gain imagine selling your friends/family something that would change them into a complete monster in MINUTES, they couldn’t control... all for a dollar 💵 seeing them strip naked, black out, become violent aggressive or be willing to steal from their mother for their next fix or even pimp their child daughter out for money 💰 it’s cold. & sad! the white European caveman has been trying to ruin wipe out our race culture since day one! They STOLE OUR LAND WHICH IS AMERIKKKA 🇺🇸 IS OUR HOME THE WHITE MAN KEPT IT ALL TO THEMSELVES ✊🏾 we were supposed to be free in 1863 but they still have us mentally emotionally shackled today in 2024 The 👺 evil wicked white european caveman knows exactly who WE ✊🏾are great strong smart valuable & powerful, & sooo much more the sad part is that WE THE BLACK KINGS & QUEENS ✊🏾 dont know our own powers nor who we are! I had an older gentleman a stranger I met at my place of employment who take me in mentored me got me out the streets & street life he educated me gave me books to read about who WE REALLY ARE once I seen the TRUTH i haven’t looked back! These days It’s just like on the plantation house nuggah vs field nuggahs & that’s what we have today going on even in our workplaces it’s sad to see brotha’s go against their own brotha to please or entertain the white man they dance for them sing show out like they at a circus & don’t mention how a lot of our brotha’s LOVE & chase these white woman who would have sold, beat, raped, lied on them just 60 years ago R.I.P. EMMIT TILL these Neanderthal european cavemen are something else 🤦🏾♂️ ohhh I deal with racism on a daily basis here in KC on a regular I have a million stories but it’s way worse north of the river but I’ve experienced it all over KCMO I can literally write a book (R.I.P. Gavin E. Long) google him a great young brotha the marines ruined & didn’t want to help me & him use to deal with police brutality a lot he got tired of it his actions were wrong what he did in Louisiana but I definitely understood where he came from this is how the Neanderthal european caveman does us & did Gavin after he fought for our country HE WAS DENIED HELP 🤦🏾♂️🙏🏾 I could write for years about all my experiences negative & positive in KCMO blessings to everyone who took the time to read my message THANK YOU GOD BLESS ✊🏾 🙏🏾

Thank you for tackling this topic in great detail! It's nice to know where things might pop off at. At least it sounds for the most part in certain areas. I used to live in Rockford, IL. That city has made several list for having really bad crime. A long time ago there was parts of town that you knew not to go to because it was so bad. Then in 2008 the economy tanked really bad. That's the starting point of Rockford tanking. Crime was starting to happen even in the really good expensive neighborhoods. My mom finally moved out of town in 2019 after a few years of my sibs and I telling her she needs to move. That area was never really that bad. After tanking the gas station down the street from her was 2 shootings. Also a friend of mine was driving down the street and got hit by a car that was running from the cops. I think Kansas City is still a lot better than Rockford.😊

@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong nope not yet. We used to live in Independence (with friends) for a couple of months over 10 years ago. Had to move back to IL because things fell apart. We want to move back to the Kansas City area. We were hoping this year but it looks like next year. We have family and friends in the Greater KCMO area. We visited KC back in 2021 and will hopefully visit again in a few months. We love to watch videos about KC because things have changed from over 10 years ago.

Is that a gang?
A lot of the “gang” members of KC are crashouts ie: the chiefs parade. The neighborhoods are never as bad as they seem because the gang members aren’t really outside in KC like they are in say Chicago. This is why big events are in jeopardy of nonsense because that’s the only time these enemies really see each other. With that being said KC isn’t really as bad on a day to day basis but just know when you are trying go to an event it’s a possibility things array.

I was born n raised in kck then moved to kcmo i live n most rough neighborhoods but life is a teaching tool i gang bang n went too jail but the streets stay the same just the players r different every year

Me being born in 1975, when they started the charter school system, where kids could be bussed out of their own hood for high school it gave you and opportunity to socialize with kids you wouldn't have know but it also brought kids to those neighborhoods that didn't have generations of families going to school together. So where as you may get into it with someone, because there was history in the neighborhood,, you'd fight and it would be over with. Without that neighborhood respect, it brought in more extreme violence because of the disconnect. They closed valuable community centers , grade school and Jr high school.
Do you think there are any comparable programs to that now?
As with many cities, KC is an interstate highway crossing town and probably a base for drug movement/distribution dealing which gives rise to competing dealers/distributors who “gang up” as a business tactic.
Factually, with I 70 east & west of KC, I 35 north east to south west of KC, I 29 north west of KC, I 49 to the south of KC; KC has no shortage of highway shipping lanes and apparently no shortage of mindless purchasers who just seek to escape reality that becomes even more unacceptable when they return to non using status.
KC is not alone as there are folks elsewhere who get their drugs as another point on the interstate highway system elsewhere.
There are just allot of people who do not consider their drug use as causing all sorts of violence in this country thru being an out of sight, out of mind user, as long as they or someone that they know, are not the ones who are shot or killed.
That's an interesting insight. I never thought of KC as a "hub" for drugs, but with the highways you mentioned, that does make sense. I understand what you mean, I live in an area where we see drug deals happening often. We always worry that one of these deals go sideways while we are outside playing with the kids.

Jaylen,… KC has private airports for small planes and the nation wide ground shippers……..how about in small boats on the Missouri River?
If you were to live out west on I 70 there will be the cross interstate highway state road towns that have truck stops, a 20 K populations, illegal drug sales and gangs.
Obviously, there are No shortages of users willing to close their eyes at the violence that they fund.
What none of the Chiefs Parade shooters did was to control their dumber violent impulses, as drugs have long term side effects,…..like stupidity.
These people are not afraid to kill or be killed because their minds are drug disabled. No Impulse control left. No ability left to predict their own features without a psychic, who just notices the obvious for $.
Not only a hub for drugs but one of the largest sex trafficking guns in the U.S. sadly
kcmo is where most the shootings happen. Most of the wealth, density and office jobs are in Johnson county Kansas where overland park is due to people and jobs fleeing kcmo because of crime and white flight.

Johnson county’s median household income is about 103K. Kcmo is about 65k for example. Kansas City experienced a l or if white flight and redlining which is why most of the wealthiest zip codes in the area are in Johnson county

Johnson county’s median household income is around 103K meanwhile kcmo is around 65K. The reason for this is decades of white flight and redlining and gradual urban decay. That’s why the wealth is so unevenly distributed here.

@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong I would have to take the average of each county and account for each county’s population. But just using some common sense you can see Johnson county (the wealthiest in the area) is the most populous on the Kansas side at about 622,000 people and Jackson county(the second lowest income within the immediate counties) is the most populous on the Missouri side at about 718,000 people. The difference in income is 103K in Johnson and 65K in Jackson county, which includes places like lees summit. The lowest income county in the area is Wyandotte county in Kansas but you also have to think they only have 165K people.
Greater Kansas City...Overland Park...Blue Springs...Leawood...Lenexa...Olathe...South KC...North KC near Zona Rosa...Raytown...still nice areas...However...please be aware anywhere in the city...God bless...I agree...KCMO is going to grow but with that growth KCMO must be focused on... stronger law enforcement...stronger public health...stronger public education...and...increased social network programs and spiritual reconnection and mentoring with the youth...
Interesting you mentioned “spiritual reconnection.” What do you mean by that?
You are Asian American...I assume...However...in my faith tradition as an African American...there was a time when many youth in the black community were being involved and spiritually educated and trained by the church ⛪️...Not anymore...

@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong it’s getting better it’s being gentrified, which good in someways and not so good in other ways, Swope Park is one of the hidden treasures here it’s so big most people only see a little bit when they do visit. I grew up living in it basically been my backyard for 36 years and . This is where my grandfather decided to build his house along with his five children’s homes right after getting back home from WW2. It’s not the best area but it’s home and this used to be farmland and it’s turning back into micro farms in the city I really like that there are people in my neighborhood that have horses livestock produce farms and then a block or two away there might be there might be a homicide here or there
@@royboy4741 Yeah, I can picture where you are. I'm always surprised when I drive through that area where there are large plots of land right in the city. What would you say most people miss when they visit Swope? We live really close to there and go often.

At 11:45, I don’t know about the inherited comment. The people I know, saved for down payment and are buying the house on a mortgage. None of them that I know inherited.
Yeah, I would say that I do see some inherited properties in the neighborhoods of KC. There are some next to me that have been in families for multiple generations.

When I hear of inherited property, especially in the last 10 years, it’s usually referring to rich families that are passing wealth to the next generation. Are we speaking of deep generational wealth or average families that own property and due to death and similar circumstances the property has been passed on?
I think he’s more referring to average to below average income properties that are in the neighborhoods he’s referring to. For example, the house next to mine is worth less than $100,000. It sits vacant and has for the past 4 years. However, I’ve spoken to the family multiple times and they will never, ever sell according to them. I think that’s what he might be referring to.
