7 Worst Neighborhoods in Kansas City ... Kinda
Live in Johnson county where the taxes never stop going up and the DAs office is corrupt as a sewer hole..
Im from independence I’ve lived here my whole life my family moved from Kansas City to get away from inner city. Northern indep is decent east indep is good west and south both suck. People hate on indep it is cheaper but there is worst spots and better
My family was also raised Mormon although I am not anymore but I didn’t know about the spiral being so important for people
I've got to say I'm home sick and really feeling #5 right now. Would be freezing cold and snowing then jump to 60 degrees and sunny all in the same day. The extreme weather fluctuations are not seasonal and not something you'll get used to.
Ive lived my whole life in Liberty. The Biggest con to me is there just isnt much outdoor activity type stuff to do. Id kill to live somewhere where you can do cool hikes with good views, ride dirt bikes, ski, somewhere with clear streams, super clean smelling mountain air...
Jaylenn, nice presentation of the condos, particularly the unit at One Park Place. I owned that specific unit for two years, and it was a wonderful place to live. I only wish you would have had time to show all the wonderful indoor amenities, such as the meeting space, party room, billiard room, cigar parlor, wine cellar and tasting room, fitness center, indoor pool and spa, golf simulator and dog grooming area, as well as the underground heated parking. But there are so many amenities there that it would have taken the whole video just to show them. :)
Hi friend! Thank you so much for the kind words. I can't believe you lived in such an awesome place! I would have loved to have that view. What caused you to move away?
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong I needed a house to better care for an aging parent. Since that time though I've bought and sold a few different condos back in midtown, currently at San Francisco Tower at Crown Center. The amenities aren't quite as nice as One Park Place, but we have a comparable view and the location being attached to Crown Center can't be beat.
Kansas side
Are you saying the safest neighborhoods are on the Kansas side?
DONT GET US TWISTED ... TAYLOR SWIFT SEENS TO LIKE OUR CITY JUST FINE. WE HAVE THE ONLY MULTI MILLION DOLLAR FEMALE SOCCER STADIUM IN THE USA. DO NOT FORGET WE ATE TWO TIME SUPER BOWL DEFENDING CHAMPIONS.
All correct! Remember, this video just uses the stats from the housing market.
Really well done!
Thank you so much!
I live in Kansas and OH HELL NO !! For the rest of the state, we make fun of Johnson County. It is fun to visit KC but no way in heck would I want to live there.
Really? Why not?
Can you make a video of Hyde park KCMO! It shows the historic homes of early 1900s craftsmanships. It’s finally a developing area with huge potential 😊
Sure! That's on the list after I do my Brookside video!
4:07 ELWOOD KS 1.6 million will buy 1/2 the town 😂
Dude, this made me laugh just now. Hope you're loving the new home!
No offense.... you font know what your talking about in any of these towns. In any way as far as real estate...
Thanks for the encouragement! Appreciate you! 🫶🏽
in and out burger isn't good any more in my opinion.....the hamburgers are really really thin. I would rather go to Denny's. Their hamburgers are like 4 times thicker
I would have to say, thats the first time I've heard that. When do you think the burgers started to change?
Nice video! We just moved to Gladstone a few months ago and we are from north of Houston, TX. While I agree with your pros, I actually disagree with most of your cons! I'm sure if you prefer city, it taking a while to get to a freeway is a con. But coming from a neighorhood north of Houston that was tucked inside 2 major freeways, it is SO NICE that we don't have to jump on a freeway for most things. Less chance of a wreck, less noise, and less feeling of "go go go". I love that we don't even have to leave a neighborhood to travel from place to place and there are only like 5 major roads. I also like that there are different trash services because like you said, if one isn't working out, you have the choice to switch. Our house in TX was a monopoly for trash AND water and it was expensive and unreliable. And the water company had horrible customer service. Your other con of nothing to do, I have to disagree with. There are so many community events here that you can attend for free or cheap with your family. Depending on the event there is live music, bounce houses, pony rides, and kids activities. Sometimes you have to travel outside of Gladstone to do something with your family but everything in the Northland is so close. You mentioned Liberty but that is only a 15 minute drive from the center of Gladstone. We had to drive farther than that to get to our grocery store when we lived in TX. And not to mention all the free events and classes that the library has, and there are several mid-continent library locations in or near Gladstone. I take my toddler to a playtime they hold every week on Tuesdays. So yes you may have to travel a distance to go to the more expensive places like Science City or the Zoo, but there are so many options for families in the Gladstone area and from my experience, kids don't need you to spend an excess amount of money for them to be entertained!! We also have very friendly neighbors of all ages. That would be a pro I would add. In our last place, not one person welcomed us to the neighborhood. At our house in Gladstone, we have been here for 4 months and we have had SEVEN households welcome us. Several even offered assistance if needed once they saw I was very, very pregnant. These are just my opinions. We have been very satisfied with Gladstone, the major con being yes, not many food options and if you need to get to the bigger stores like Target, Natural Grocers, Home Depot, you do have to travel a bit to get there!
Thank you for your helpful comment! I'm glad to know that you love the Gladstone area. We did as well while we lived there. I can definitely see the validity of what you're saying, and it would depend on where in Gladstone you're living in terms of how quickly it takes to get to places. I also definitely see how your comment on trash services rings 100% true. After dealing with trash services where you cannot switch, it would be nice to be able to hop to another provider. Now that you mention the Mid-Continent Library, we used to go there as well for story times and other activities. You are also spot on with the neighbors. They were exceedingly friendly and kind while we were in Gladstone, and we still keep in touch with them. Thanks for commenting on my video, and I'm so glad that you love Kansas City!
Brand new house with popcorn ceilings?
I didn't even notice that when I was there!
I live in Northern California but Kansas City is much more affordable as is the rest of the nation. My son is applying to the university of Missouri as well as other schools in the southeast. He wants to establish himself in an area he can afford to live in
Best of luck to him! I hope he gets in. What does he want to study?
lived in kc my whole life and so has generations before me. My mom grew up in the la area so its kind of ironic cause my dad grew up in kc
I assume you like it here?
Kc metro is listed as some of the worst drivers 😂... This is facts! Passive aggressive, angry drivers. I moved here from Wisconsin to Overland Park. What I have to say is People here are passive aggressive and Climbers. if you have a high end career, people will love you. If not, people don't wanna waste their time. Mountain Biking is really good in KC, Food is great, BBQ is crazy expensive,
When you say, "climbers," you mean climbing the corporate ladder?
None of the KCMO neighborhoods south of the river are great if you have kids. The Kansas City School District is horrible so unless you can afford private school none of the neighborhoods are good for families with school age children.
Well, I've heard that there are people who can get into charter schools here, so that's also an option south for the river. For what it's worth, we lived on both sides and pefer the south side, and we do have kiddos.
Being single in K.C. sucks but if you're married or have kids it's better
I've heard this before. I can see how this makes sense. There are tons of things to do for kids and families, and I've heard from people that the dating scene sucks here.
I know it's silly, but I chose not to even consider houses with a Kearney address because of the terrible name. Also, as someone who grew up in a legitimately rural area, it never ceases to amuse me when KC metro area people talk about how onerous it is to leave their own little section of city and drive more than 30 minutes away from their homes.
I don't blame you! When I first moved here, I could not pronounce Kearney at all. I understand when people complain, especially if they are used to having everything a short drive away. Growing up in LA, driving 30 minutes was no issue.
Love your videos! They’re building homes in Riverside. Can you do a video covering that area?
Riverside is actually on the list of places to film!
Me and my wife currently live in Ireland (I'm Irish she's American) and we were planning on moving to Kansas City MO, I heard crime was kind of iffy but generally is it a safe city? And how is it for younger people (mid 20s)
It can be very peaceful and safe. If you're moving to Kansas City, MO as opposed to the Kansas side of Kansas City, you will have to make sure that you do your research. If you're open to it, I would love to chat with you about it. Open to a phone call?
Regrets i had a few
Regrets about Gardner?
Liberty is just to far out of the way. You can live a to. Of n earth paces that are closer to KC proper
I've never heard people say that Liberty is too "far out."I think Liberty is a great place to live.
Gladstone is not in Jackson County, many of our schools are excellent, and there are beautiful lakes, rivers, and waterfalls if you know where to look.
Right. Gladstone is in Clay. Did I say Jackson?
I don't know about that dating scene in KCMO is dry af
I've heard this before. Why is that?
Same thing with Gladstone Missouri
I think you're one of the only people I've heard about saying that Gladstone is not a safe place in the metro.
Helpful video. Could you describe allergy season(s) in Kansas City and does it bother you? thanks
Sure! I can only tell you my experience, so you and others may experience things differently. For me, I get allergies in the spring when the leaves come back in and that's about it. When I get allergic, I have to use my inhaler because apparently that's how my allergies manifest. I used to experience two really bad allergy seasons in California, so only one is a relief.
Kansas City, MO can't even provide basic city services and can't keep their citizens safe. You keep voting incompetent, corrupt black democraps into political office. Kansas City MO is dying. It is. You can't deny it. People from Johnson County have stopped going and shops, businesses and residents are fleeing due to safety issues. Jackson County residents are too stupid and continue to blame Jeff City and the demoralized and defunded KCPD for all their problems. Then you have the idiot Quinton Lucas filing lawsuit after lawsuit costing taxpayers millions of dollars in his never-ending quest to defund the police. If I were a police officer I would look for a job anywhere else. Let the imbeciles who voted for their own demise protect themselves.
Ehh…pretty broad generalizations. Don’t find this too compelling.
Where blacks congregate violence happens. If you live in a city with a high black concentration, move.
Put the landfill in front of Mayor McDrinkerson's home.
Didn't they vote that down?
Autonomous taxi's are about to handle the public transport problems.
What do you mean by that? Are you saying that the taxes are going towards building more public transport?
I've heard that sometimes black walnuts can help with skin conditions.
How do you apply them?
latina from los angeles. live in berkeley too. moved to NW arkansas. so much overlaps. we are pretty low crime but we're not a city. more like a suburb feeling rural. there are very few minorities. my bff is chinese and when she visited she felt it too. there are hispanics but in neighborhoods and i'm kind of in the caucasian area. so i def feel that. no great chinese food. decent but not good. no korean bbq which i miss most. getting better mexican food if you go to the right areas. allergies are worse by far for me. and travel by car is kind of boring in a 4 hour radius. and by plane will cost - not a lot but so much business travel there are no deals like when i lived 5 miles south of lax.
Overall, are you enjoying living in Arkansas? I heard it's really nice.
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong it is. love this time of year too. the deep winter or hot summer or hard on me. didn't have that at all growing up. but spring and fall are amazing.
We love this time of year as well. The first time we experienced it, it was hard to fathom how trees could change so much.
Yoooo! I used to work customer service at Hyvee and shipped packages for you man! So sick you create video content that’s what I do for a living now 🙏🏾 blessings man !🙌🏾
DUDE! I remember you! The HyVee at 72nd at Antioch!? How are you doing man? So good to connect again.
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong yessir that’s the one! Doing great dude I work for an eccomerce marketing agency now and do video content on TikTok for companies we bring in as clients 🙏🏾
@@HEYTAJAI00 Dude, that's incredible! When did you start there?
Love when you do your field trips. We have a relative, Cole Younger, who rode with the Jesse James gang
Thank you! I like doing the field trips as well. It’s a fun way to see all of Kansas City.
Please do not listen to this guy Kansas City is very small so the “HIGH” crime rate compared to population and the size of our State/City is very misleading a lot of the “CRIME” happens is centered around the downtown area literally 90% is property crimes your car burglaries maybe a mugging EVERY NOW and AGAIN any murders or violent crimes are typically crimes of passion I/ Alot of us are INTROVERTED we typically stay to ourselves this is the kind of place where you can walk in the Walmart/ CVS with earbuds on grab your deodorant mouth wash without having a cashier come and unlock it, go straight to self check out and be on your way.
What about people who want to live in the Downtown area? Don’t they deserve to know what’s happening? Honestly, I think that you’re right, but I’m just giving them the whole truth.
Awesome video! Loved the new build and unique charm of the older home.
Thank you! I think that older home was one of my favorites that I've had on the channel.
Is the humidity like the humidity here in South Carolina? The heat here is unbearable because everything feels damp and sticky. And my hair frizzes like crazy.
I think that SC is generally more humid, but that's just through a quick Google search. It can get humid here sometimes, but it's only for about a month.
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong Ok I can live with that... SC is humid the entire spring and summer... I mean, Missouri has its humid days, but it's usually after a rain on a hot day.
It was probably oak mites.
I’ve never heard of them. What are they?
Need to Culture Up!! Haha Nice video. I hope the next show at Kauffman works out.
The Bluey show was really cool! 10/10, would do again.
For the church - MBTS representing. SDG!
That’s right! SDG! Are you a student there?
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong I was. Got a bachelor's degree from there. Might go back to get an MDIV but I might go to the International Reformed Baptist Seminary (IRBS) or Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary (CBTS).... a lot less expensive, more confessionally reformed, and a lot of the degree can be done remotely.... Though I would love to learn under Matthew Barrett there at MBTS, but... we shall see, if the Lord so wills. Hope your seminary degree studies are going well. My assumption is that you will (or currently are) supplement a ministry position with the real estate business? Grace and peace to you and your family. Corem Deo!
I pastored for about 10 years in Southern California. I'm not currently pastoring, just 100% real estate so the wife can stay home with the kiddos! I'm actually in the Ph.D. and Matthew is my supervisor. If you want to chat about anything at all, let me know. I actually do doctoral counseling on the side and my focus is systematic theology.
Bunch of rich people moved from their lame liberal cities to kc and made it too expensive
😢
Seems like a simplistic answer to the question, but whatever! 🤷🏽♂️
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong what does that mean bro, I grew up seeing Lenexa turn from cow pastures to apartments. I have a masters degree and a good job and still too expensive for what it is, if there was public transit the price would be acceptable.
I mean that I don't think that your premise is right. It's easy to blame the "rich people," but I think that most people who are moving here are going to be any higher than middle class. Most are families who want a more affordable place to live.
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong I understand, although they demand a higher wage because they came from an inflated city, if they were making 80k in Cali then they should be getting 60k in Kansas City. They aren’t getting 60k though because they demand more and some might being working remote from a company in an inflated city. Causes all of our prices to go up. We are all doing our best and that’s okay. Inflation won’t end so can’t be too worried.
Just about all of these reasons listed is why I WANT to move there! My allergies got better when I left Pennsylvania and lived in Missouri. Can't wait to move back to the "Show Me State." Give me a blue collar trade job and I am happy with a modest living. My only concern are the natural beauty part and how close I can be to work.
I hope you move soon! 🙂
@@LivingInKansasCity-JaylennWong I will soon, L-rd willing! I even got in contact with a synagogue there. Plus I am only a three hour flight from my family when I want to visit them on the east coast.
Prairie Village looks beautiful... Is it outside the Kansas City limits?
Yes, it’s still in the Kansas City Metro, but it’s an entirely different city!
Speaking of the Chiefs, we went to the Chiefs/Chargers game two weeks ago. Sorry about the Chargers
Yes, it was expected. I'm bummed about the injuries, but I think that they are still poised to have a good season. It's hard to live in Kansas City and not be happy for the Chiefs, since most people here are so happy they're good again.
Do they get tornados there? How cold are the winters? Kitchen looks small though with lack of cabinets.
We do get tornadoes sometimes. The winters can get into the negative temperatures at closest, but it fluctuates a lot.
Congrats and thanks.
No problem. Thanks for watching!
