Yes traveling with a wheelchair is so fun. Never trust the airline. One trip I was on I was without my wheelchair for 24 hours using an airport "wheelchair". Mine went 1000 miles away on its own trip. It took them forever to find it. Try to connect with the flight attendant and ask for them to confirm it is on the plane with ground handlers. BTW love your attitude as a newbie. Keep smiling!
I'm a part time wheelchair user. Usually use a walker, just use the wheelchair for greater distances. I traveled for the first time on it, a couple years ago. DON'T be afraid to take your chair. The transfer chairs most airports have are uncomfortable and require someone to push it. I was stuck in ATL for a long time and anytime I had to go to the bathroom or eat I had to get assistance. If I had my own chair this wouldn't have been a problem.
God Bless You young lady...I am coming up on the 25th anniversary of my one the job accident...trust me life gets better! I have gotten into pinball machines a great deal as of late ...it a even playing field!
Airlines have been very accommodating to me as well. As a quad I had to rely on them even more. As an aside, I cant believe how soft your Roho is, unless you deflated it for storage... I sit on my during flight.
My TiLite chair was severely scratched the first time I flew in a plane. I immediately raised holy hell with the airline. They basically told me too bad so sad but in a nice way. That was the first and last time my wheelchair went in to the storage belly area of airplanes. Now the chair is stored in the overhead luggage compartment areas in the planes themselves. I simply remove the wheels which are typically stored somewhere in the front of the planes by the airline attendants. This method of airline travel works great for both me and my expensive TiLite chairs.
The same exact thing happened to my chair aswell. Now I take everything off. I also take pictures of my chair before I fly…. So if anything is broke or scratched they will be held accountable.
you're left wheel is right and right is left :") and I missed the most important moments for flying in a wheelchair. But super great that you're first flight was succesfull. :)
My dad is a quadriplegic and he has been one since he was 19 and he has to do everything and he has to make sure that the 3 thousand dollar wheel chair stays safe and hope it doesn’t get broken and we flew somewhere once and we were the last to get off the plane and we board 30 minutes early and the wheel chair was broken so I understand why u were nervous
When I am flying I always take off my cushions and side guards or anything smal and will come loose. I have had things go missing from my chaira as well. There was one time I also took my basketball sports chair, and when I got it at other end it was all bent, they did pay for my sports chair to be replaced which was good. Now when I take my sports chair, I take it all apart to get it as small as can get it and put all the parts with my wheels in a wheel bag. Also, when you have two chairs they will not charge for the extra baggage, and they will not charge for the wheel bag, so I always take a wheel bag and put my wheels in the wheel bag, to save them from getting damaged or popped.
Hey, this isle arm rest should fold up. They do lock in the down position, but there should be a small button underneath the arm rest towards the back that let's them move up. The gate agents may not know where it is, but the flight attendants should.
Not a big deal. I fly over 100K miles per year (Global Services, United and Concierge Key, American). They’ll pay for the side guard if the tracer comes back negative, in my experience.
I recently sustained a back injury that has left me permanently crippled. Hence I watched these videos with great interest. When you consider how much luggage is "lost" to say nothing of pilferage by baggage handlers and TSA weenies, anybody who would trust the airline has to be a little nuts. The other thing I noticed is that with a cameraman filming the entire excursion, the airline and airport personnel will likely be on their best behavior.
I know this was posted a year ago but when getting off the plane were you last or first? I'm flying in october for my 1st time as well! this video made me kess stressed out!
You apparently don't fly much. The odds of your checked luggage being lost, damaged or delayed on any particular flight is fairly high. That's why so many people carry-on their luggage with them and fight for space in the overhead bins.
They say to tale as much of the chair on the plane as your bag on board. The backrest, side guards and you covered the seat cushion...arm rests if you depend on them to weight shift.
I am getting ready to fly to Oregon from California and I was just telling my wife I am sitting on my cushion and I want to pack my arms and side guards in the suite case so they don't go missing from the flight.
Hi I’m Ben Collins and I’m 21 in 5 weeks Time and I’m in a wheelchair and I used an. Escalator like the one you just used and I could feel it moving on my bottom though the cushion of my wheelchair
6/2023,......slowly losing my ability to walk and use my legs,....still struggling to get around with my walker,....I'm 70 and have a severe spine disorder,....Life has gotten very hard and I can't depend on friends to help me. They tolerate me, since I can sort of walk still, with my walker/roller. But none will assist me to fun events,....had to give up going to outdoors festivals. I'm the loser harshing their chance to flirt with the pretty girls. Cripples are not attractive to pretty girls or older attractive women. Prior to getting this disorder, I rode a motor cycle, almost every day for 33 years. I didn't need to walk much,...except from my bike into a store. If I could hang onto a rolling shopping cart, I could shop. I'm in an extreme amount of pain, when I try to walk,....and no doctor will offer me any pain relief except worthless Over-the counter meds. I hate my doctors!.....I have a wheelchair waiting for when I can no longer stand and use my roller-ator.
You're an inspiration to many people ,Such a Beautiful person.

Oh yeah and fly Southwest as they have armrests that go up! Plus their flight attendants are the best. I travel a fair amount for work.

I don't know how the heck i got here but this was a great insight to crap you have to deal with at the airport
hope you are well!

So you folded the back chair and just store it in the overhead compartment? That is great to know if they can’t do seat strapping method! 😊
@@ashleyvo4929 yes, that's exactly what I do. My TiLite chairs are very expensive and I will never allow any airline to beat up my chairs again.
The same exact thing happened to my chair aswell. Now I take everything off. I also take pictures of my chair before I fly…. So if anything is broke or scratched they will be held accountable.

A company called Phoenix Instinct has luggage that you can attach to the back of your chair. They have a whole load of different options of bag sizes.
This is great because I gotta fly from SD to San Diego sometime next year
I’m sure this will help a lot of people I really enjoyed watching

This girl is so beautiful.

I’m a new wheelchair user (BTK amputee). Great video. Thank you so much. :)

The idea that they could lose (or damage) your wheelchair or any part of it, let alone that it's common, is INSANE.
have you ever seen how luggage is handled? If so, its pretty easy to understand how a wheelchair can be damaged.
You apparently don't fly much. The odds of your checked luggage being lost, damaged or delayed on any particular flight is fairly high. That's why so many people carry-on their luggage with them and fight for space in the overhead bins.
great video, I have an electric wheelchair, but your wheelchair is cool 😎
They say to tale as much of the chair on the plane as your bag on board. The backrest, side guards and you covered the seat cushion...arm rests if you depend on them to weight shift.
Any tips on taking a wheelchair on a plane am going to Greece next year for 2 weeks ? Any advice will be grateful?

Wow, I didn't know that modern wheelchairs can fly, amazing! :-)
How do you use the restroom and shower while traveling? Do you take your own shower chair?
Did you call them before hand to let them know you have a wheelchair. Or did you just show up early and let them know
