There have only been two EV's to date that have motivated me. The VW ID Buzz, and this concept. I spent my summers in an uncle's 70's VW van cruising the beaches in Florida, and almost every day being picked up from middle school in my dad's 1978 Ford truck. If car designers would focus more on nostalgia, they might just motivate older buyers like me to better embrace EV's.
I could easily see myself buying a car/truck like this new if they were made. I love the look of old cars, much more than the modern ones. But I don't think a car company have the guts to release a car that looks "ancient" today.
It's because modern safety regulations prevent them from selling a car like this. Cars from that era were basically coffins on wheels. There is no way to make it compliant without completely changing the body and chassis.

Ohhh, that's super cool... We need more cars like this. On the dash: they _could_ have made an entire dash that emulated the original and made all the features buttons and knobs and all, but that's probably not something everyone wants. I would have a lot of enjoyment from a cockpit full of buttons, but I think they pulled off the look very well. Hopefully they'll consider making new cars with the old style exteriors
I've been talking about how car companies should do re-issues of their older vehicles for years. Same vintage styles, just some modern adjustments. How cool would it be to buy a 66 Camaro, 69 Mustang, 77 Firebird, etc.
Reintroducing classic cars to be electric is a mindblowingly simple but genius idea. This/my generation has been obsessed with “vintage” since I was a teenager (im now 24). i think cars like this would fly off shelves if mass produced.
I’ve been waiting for something like this. I really hope electric conversions become a normal thing for two main reasons: 1) it would be more way eco-friendly to upcycle old cars than producing new ones, and 2) new cars look cheap and uninteresting.
I dream of one day being able to get an electric converted late 50's or early 60's American luxury car (doesn't really matter whether it is a Cadillac, a Plymouth or something else), because they seem absolutely perfect as electric cars: designed specifically to go around 55 mph for hours on end, in extreme comfort, and the engines and gearboxes are likely so heavy that even a long range conversion wouldn't change the weight noticeably, especially combined with a more modern AC system. And we all know that electric cars are most efficient at lower speeds, which these are so well suited for.
And the hyper-agression of modern auto design is so overdone. I can't wait until we go back to the smooth, svette aerodynamics of the 90s, or back to the boxy utilitarianism of the 80s.
This brings back so many memories, my grandpa had the og version of this truck❤ He would drive us around in the back and take us to get snow cones. So cool to see an updated electric version of the beautiful old design.
OMG 👏🏾I learned to drive & got my license in a 1976 Ford F-100! The stick shift was as big as a baseball bat & it had one big bench seat covered in the scratchiest upholstery 😝
Its interesting to see "younger" (not really that younger) non car people walk through a older car. Marques avoided stepping on the tailgate and I bet you that's because he didn't trust it lol. Electric cars are providing access to acceleration and power that usually was reserved for the really rich or car enthusiasts. These kind of builds are going to pop up more and more and I am all for it. Modern tech in an older body has been a thing long before electric cars and its always a fun combination to see.
I love the car modding community! Retro vehicles will always have a special part in my heart. I hope Ford executives actually make it a reality and goes ahead to sell it.
I clicked this video thinking it would be an Electric Car that they made in 1978 but didn’t get attention🤦🏾♂️ Meanwhile, It’s actually an Electric Car, that they made in 1978. I would definitely love to see the BTS of this video 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Apparently, for Jerryrigeverything's military hummer conversion, all he had to do was go to the dmv and pay $10 for them to officially say it's a legal electric vehicle to drive on the road. So maybe not that difficult
@@MrE_ there are different rules for what vehicle manufacturers are allowed to ship and what is allowed to be on the road, as auto regulations continue to change, people are not expected to modify there existing vehicles slightly to meet them. Not are there rules that age vehicles out of eligibility to road worthiness, aside from state inspections.
@@MrE_ I don't think any company can just pay the dmv 10$ to make a car road legal, electric or not. Plus these old trucks haven't been in production for over 50 years, hard to believe ford has the tooling and factories to produce such a niche car.
@@MrE_ That is because the military hummer chassis is ironically enough, road legal. He had to pay $10 because he had a drivetrain/engine swap, but that doesn’t affect its ability to be road legal (tied to chassis). For Ford to introduce a new “old” platform like this, with a brand new chassis, it would have to go through full certification before sale.
This made me realize how big of a potential retro cars have to be reintroduced as EV's. Think about the many many iconic cars from the previous century. How many people would love to drive those cars, especially if they are modernized with current comforts and safety tech. Retro is hip these days, so imagine electrified retro cars with their unique styling driving around town!
I assume that a conversion from old body parts with new system wouldn't easily work under the banner of a 'new' vehicle due to the additional safety features that have since been mandated, so I think it'd be pretty difficult to keep the body the same and not beefing it up with crash structures or airbags etc, hence why Ford probably isn't planning for this to go into production as is
This is a beautiful mix of the past and the future in the same car! As conversions are gaining in popularity, we will definitely see more old models turning electric, but this one is bringing it to another level! Roll your window manually while you charge your phone wirelessly! Fascinating! 🔌⚡🚘
It would be fantastic but modern safety regulations don’t allow it… Just look at how thin the doors are on that truck, you certainly wouldn’t fair well being t-boned in it!

Kudos to ford, I like it a lot. Also read an article today, that they are encouraging 3D printed mods to their cars (pretty cool too imho), quite the opposite to Honda, who sent out a take-down notice to sites hosting 3d printable models that are compatible to their cars.
The Maverick even has QR Codes with links on what you can 3D print. Of course, Ford will happily sell you accessories that fit in the same spot, but they give the full files to make your own!

The engine bay had so much room I could climb inside next to the engine when I was little and he could close the hood and I could about climb out through the bottom it was so open. They don't make them like they used to. I really wish they would bring back trucks like this, but updated like this one. It's about the coolest thing they could do.
This is the electric future I want. Classic looks + modern tech.
I want it lol this honestly brings the idea of vintage vehicles being revived even more to be even more timeless than they already are. I love this
This truck looks SSSOOO much better then Tesla's Cyber Truck! Elon Musk take notes! 😂
nice hyperbole
@@emmanuelemeribe9746 I don't think so, technology changes and so do safety regulations
That's why Tesla has over 3 million pre-orders....
the cybertruck was an experiment, to see if they could make affordable flat non curved parts (expensive) and no paint (also expensive)
Cars looked so much better back in the old days. They were a piece of art with lots of metal parts and accessories.
Love this truck. Ford did a really good job in the implementation and balance between the old and new.
I love Marques' emphasis on the 'This!' paying homage to Doug!

Genius! Make only ONE of a car that everyone absolutely loves.
The safety and range is probably quite poor considering that body.
@@TheRguru1 I know that, might have worded it wrong. I want them to make a new model that only looks like this one on the outside. I don't want them to build an old car without new inventions like smooth suspension😄
@@TheRguru1 who cares this world gettin softer by the day u men turned into women it’s so sad only real men love old school cars

I absolutely love this truck. The design is incredible.
I’d love to see this car made for production. On the other hand I would love to see this conversion done on an old Landrover Defender
Check out Electric Classic Cars, they did an electric Defender.
Ford basically said they wont make classics electirc for production... stupid af since it would totally sell and would be a huge marketting success
Love it! So much character and charm. Would absolutely own one.
I've been talking about how car companies should do re-issues of their older vehicles for years. Same vintage styles, just some modern adjustments. How cool would it be to buy a 66 Camaro, 69 Mustang, 77 Firebird, etc.
I would love to see this be mass manufactured, and see it come to the public. This thing is friking sick
Reintroducing classic cars to be electric is a mindblowingly simple but genius idea. This/my generation has been obsessed with “vintage” since I was a teenager (im now 24). i think cars like this would fly off shelves if mass produced.
this looks amazing! ❤️😌
They'd be stupid expensive though
❤
That's some good memories
So dangerous as well, Emma. Can’t imagine if your grandpa wrecked while you’re in the back
@@sammyjammy6647 thankfully it was just down the street, but I agree! Times are different now.
I would love for automakers to start bringing out electric versions of classic cars (thinking classic bronco, classic corvettes, etc)
That truck is a beautiful fever dream of new and old. Love it! I hope they make them production.
I love the car modding community! Retro vehicles will always have a special part in my heart. I hope Ford executives actually make it a reality and goes ahead to sell it.
If they did it might be a limited run
You gotta love this era of truck design. So honest, no BS, all that you need, no extra fat…beautiful, in a truly utilitarian!
I clicked this video thinking it would be an Electric Car that they made in 1978 but didn’t get attention🤦🏾♂️ Meanwhile, It’s actually an Electric Car, that they made in 1978. I would definitely love to see the BTS of this video 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Fantastic video!!! Five star quality
Same! 😂

Me too XD still awesome
Same... I love K-Pop!!!!!
I’ve always admired the look of classic cars, but driving them are always a hassle, speaking from experience. Making resto-modded classic cars with electric motors are basically the best of both worlds. I certainly would get one if I had the money for it.
It would be really cool to see this go into production, but safety regulations and such probably wouldn’t let it :(
Apparently, for Jerryrigeverything's military hummer conversion, all he had to do was go to the dmv and pay $10 for them to officially say it's a legal electric vehicle to drive on the road.
This is so clean!
I’ve wanted to have an electric version of so many retro cars I’ve fallen in love with. Kudos to Ford for doing this, hopefully it starts a trend!
😊
I assume that a conversion from old body parts with new system wouldn't easily work under the banner of a 'new' vehicle due to the additional safety features that have since been mandated, so I think it'd be pretty difficult to keep the body the same and not beefing it up with crash structures or airbags etc, hence why Ford probably isn't planning for this to go into production as is
I had to look at the post date to make sure this wasn't an April fools joke that I missed. 🤣
This is a beautiful mix of the past and the future in the same car!
As conversions are gaining in popularity, we will definitely see more old models turning electric, but this one is bringing it to another level!
Roll your window manually while you charge your phone wirelessly! Fascinating! 🔌⚡🚘
Every car company should bring back their vintage classics with new tech, they're gorgeous cars and I'm sure so many people would buy them
It would be fantastic but modern safety regulations don’t allow it… Just look at how thin the doors are on that truck, you certainly wouldn’t fair well being t-boned in it!

I can totally see this taking off in a few years. The cool styling of a retro car with the reliability and low maintenance of an EV
I wish car manufacturers would bring back older cars with updated features. I think there are a few models that would actually sell very well.
Would be sooooo dope if you could choose you’re internal options like a mach e or lightning and then pick what “skin” you wanted from whatever decade of trucks you like
Kudos to ford, I like it a lot.
This looks dope! Seriously, I'm impressed.
Man, Ford needs to come out with this as a limited production run for collectors. People would go nuts over this.
It’s like a only summer weather type of a vehicle. It’s like it doesn’t belong in cold climates.

Old is the new New
It was like my dream came true, I ALAWYS thought about putting electric motors into classic cars, to give them a new life since some of those classic design are looking so good even today. Electrified engine structure could be a real game change to classic car. Let's bring them back alive!
There's gonna be a huge market for electric conversions soon. I think it's exciting.
Would love old car aesthetics mixed with electrics as a more "normal" thing, like a whole customs scene. Reminds me that electrics were actually a thing even near the start of the automobile industry.
issue is that old stuff just isnt very aerodynamic and thats literally the name of the game when it comes to range
even on the Lucid Air, the car with the lowest drag coefficient, at 65mph 80% of the energy being expended by the vehicle is due to aerodynamic drag
Just look at the Mach e GT vs this truck 272 miles against 'around 200'
nevermind crash safety standards changing for pedestrian collisions as well - although I would have loved to see a production version of peugeot e-legend, shit looks badass
