We Smash All The Rust Out Of Our £500 REAL MIATA With A Hammer

After being abandoned all winter, Leigh and James drag the Miata out of the bushes. Probing it with screwdrivers and hammers, they quickly find out how it compares to the Mazda MX-5s they usually see. Once they're satisfied all the rust has been strewn across the floor, they take it outside for a celebratory burnout before deciding what the future should hold for it.

i also have one of these real once am located in germany and payed 350€ for it, was moldy rusty and just crummy looking and am slowly repairing it and doing maintanance for now cause am just poor student
its was actually in a similar condition moldy wise than the car in the video but it had wayyy less rust, you couldnt even see it from the outside only from inside the wheel well so it was still in a way better shape than here where its literally been eaten thorugh the whole metal

At some point during the 90's it was cheaper to import US Mazdas, compared to Japanese ones. Note that it was before sales, so the dealer would import and register them, then sell it to the first customer.

Miatas by me with crazy rust, ripped soft top, horrible paint, dry rotted tires go for like $3500. You got a decent Miata for 500

Got one as rusty as yours and boy was I thankful for lockdown. 2 months of welding but now I can enjoy a rust free car. Good luck fixing this turd.

Glad people willing to fix them over scrap them out there.. I bought mine from a previous owner that happened to have rocker panels repaired. Poorly done and I would like to re do them. (rest of the car is really nice other then rockers.) Im just not sure how to start.

@@skipper425 buy panels, practise welding on similar metal and send it with an angle grinder. I watched a ton of vids on rust prevention and metal treatment as well as fabrication. Recommend 3M Automotive channel and Eastwood Welding/Automotive channels. If you're in UK Bit Hamber Labs make wicked rust prevention and treatment chemicals. Have fun.

I have had my LHD NB USDM Miata for 12 years now :) It is one of the few 8 injector BEGi turbo cars developed by Corky back in the late 90s. And it's never rusted - anywhere!

I over paid for my na 1.6 $3k in US. I didn't mind because it was 100% untouched and no rust problems. Wish it came with a hard top. You should fix yours up

We've done plenty of shell swaps, so we should try and save one for a change 😅 The Roadster that was part of our How Not To Buy An MX-5 series was far worse than the Miata is, and if we didn't save it we wouldn't do the £1000 turbo challenge, so it should make for a pretty interesting series all round :)
