Watch the making of the song "Sunshine (Pain in My Eyes)" and get a glimpse of the creative process behind the production and songwriting. It's not everyday that you get to go behind the scenes with undiscovered talent of this caliber and see the creation of a song from scratch. Inspired by real life events, the song came about during a time when my mom battled health issues that landed her an extended stay at Washington Hospital Center.
The skeleton of the song/beat was originally a piano, vocal sample, and simple drum pattern. This was enough to flesh out the overall premise of the first verse. I used the punch-in method for the bulk of the verse. This is standard in hiphop in today's age. It's practically writing, just without the use of pens and paper.
Over time, the song evolved into a more soulful composition consisting of a guitar loop as the lead instrument. Producers take notes on how to use guitar VST's. There's a lot under the hood that get's overlooked, sometimes you just have to take your time and perfect it.
