I call this boi Andy. Yall should know that reference
that sounds so fimilliar but i dont remember where its from!
Yep

@@AndrewtheLNERA1 leokimvideo, the mad bomber
Looks like your coal supply has all dried up, it's about time you were all scrapped.
The Wooden Railway toys called him 'The Diesel'. My brother and I used to pretend he was a pre-pinch Diesel 10 since we knew nothing about British locomotives and just that the shapes were nearly identical.
fair enough
Honestly checks out lol
Cool headcannon
I would like to see the history of that terrifying looking van from haunted Henry
Same
"Oh look, Henry's Spooked!"
-The Nightmare Van
I dont think hes gonna do freight cars atm @ least not until he gets every train character
@@Superb_0wl I guess he was joking of course it wouldn’t happen
I would like to the van as well
I often called Class 40 as “Bowler” due to the bowler hat incident
I always love the Adult Swim vibe of your intros. Brings back some memories.
Me seeing class 40 at drayton manor compared to the others there:
Not bad, I’ve seen worse
At least they're all clean...
@@Dat-Mudkip the controller of this railway should scrap you tea kettles and replace you with diesels like me
Officially, his name is Diesel. In supporting material, the Awdrys would call him Diesel 2 to distinguish him from Diesel 1 (from Duck and the Diesel Engine.) Britt Allcroft did this by calling him Class 40 on his nameboard, but told merchandise companies his name was The Diesel.
Awdry wasn't very creative when it came to naming diesel engines was he?
@@robobird3383 I think diesels who don't have a name just get the default "diesel" name
You sure? I swore in the RWS, he was either known as the Diesel or D4711.
@@robobird3383 He thought less of diesels, and understandably so. He felt that giving them names also gave them a dignity that they didn't deserve. Rusty, Daisy and Mavis are nice, which is why they deserve to have names, and Bear gets his name after proving himself.
@@sKid-gh9ub huh I always thought his name was spamcan boy I feel stupid
I would've like to see him in more seasons like a background model.
What do I think of Class 40? Well, simple.
_Someone needs to pull a Toby and save this mans._
#RaidDrayton
Well since you unboxed a toy of him; why not do Bertie's model history next.
Cos of the thumbnail; i thought this WAS his model history since Class 40's was so brief.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I love your editing style and use of sound effects, as well the information you are able to dig up about the props in the show.
I only just stumbled onto your channel in the last couple days and have been binge watching videos ever since. Its really nice to see a perspective on series that was a major highlight of my youth from a contemporary, adult perspective and also seeing all the love and passion put it into it. Really looking forward to diving in to more of your old videos and any new stuff you put out!
Thanks for uploading this on my birthday!
another great video from trainboy.
I’d like to see The history of Peter Sam because of his iconography with the Talyllyn Railway and his popularity
Its nearly my birthday!
Great upload I really enjoyed watching your video
Class 40 was a very laid-back diesel, unlike most diesels which were often hostile and antagonistic to steam engines on the island. But still has the belief that steamers were outdated and needed to be scrapped. But if we see more of Class 40, he would eventually become a nicer diesel when he returned to the island, and help Gordon with the passengers after his incident of passing another station without stopping for him. Then he will be given a name called “Andy” like other engines, which had names on their own.
If the fans or anyone who cares what fans can get the franchise from mateil or how ever you spell their name we could expect to maybe see that happen
The ERTL was one of my first trains and I still have it after 22 or so years. Never knew anything about him till now (including his name)
I call class 40 "Pickle" because at a kid he always looked like a Pickle
I can’t explain why but this actually made me laugh. I think just the absurdity of it
I called him "Cumber" because when i was little i didn't know how to pronounce "Cucumber" so i said "Cumber" like "Kyoomber" 💀
He also looks like a Cucumber
Awesome video! Amazing
I also commissioned one of bowledout95’s Berties! I got mine season 3 styled and I agree with trainboy; this little bus is amazing, amazing, AMAZING!!!
Wooooooooohhhhhhhh a new train boy episode
40's always been an interesting character for me. As a kid I'd see him all the time in advertisements and the between-episode sequences, and thought he looked interesting. When I finally got to see Bowled Out in middle school and also found that this was his only appearance, I was a little disappointed as he had potential in my eyes.
While he hasn't returned in canon (and hopefully doesn't considering where we are now 🙄), I think fans have done an outstanding job following up on 40's overall character.
Nice video dude. I think you should do the history of Rusty next or Peter Sam.
I always found that certain diesel to be an unusual design for a very interesting character!! 👍🏽👍🏽
Yes this class 40, spam can & Derek are my favorite characters in Thomas series. More stories should be built around them
It's a shame where his model ended up honestly he deserves better.
I love that modified Bertie BTW
GREAT JOB
I think Class 40 is a very underated character in both the RWS and TVS. They both had so much potential, but he only appeared in 1 book and 1 episode were he actually spoke (not accounting Rusty To The Rescue). As Trainboy said, there was the dynamic touched upon between him and Stepney, and the fandom has already created plenty of possibilities this could've gone in the show and books. I personally think that him, Diesel 10 and D199 would've been a perfect 3 way relationship of 3 big diesels who want to rid the island (and world) of outdated steam locomotives. In fact if I were to rewrite Magic Railroad I'd probably have 10, 99, 40, Splodge, George and Boomer as the villains. D199 and Class 40 would be friends and careful yet more skillful spies on the Steamies every movement, much to the jealously of Splatter and Dodge.
You can have Diesel included as well in your rewrite.
awesome content as always ! any chance you can do one of these videos of the big stations from the model series ?
Class 40, along with Freddie, Big City Engine, Stepney, Arthur, and Culdee, have special CGI renders used for the Take-n-Play packages.
I like the adult swim style bumpers you’ve included.
The opening to your videos remind me of the adult swim messages that pop up
I saw him in magazine stories that I saw on the fandom wiki where in one page he is with Diesel 10 and another one where he shows his good side.
I love klasse 40, I like his design and I like his perso… yeah and the many appeara…
Roundabout best character ever 10/10
Bowler, Class 40, D261, the guy goes by many names. The fan content made about him is quite cool honestly, with surprisingly solid redemption arcs for Class 40. Alas, if only his model could get out of it's prison. That sad/scared face mask definitely fits.
Also Fun Fact: Class 40's basis. . .the Class 40s are mostly scrapped, but multiple have been preserved. I think 7 to be exact, but that is pretty cool. Always liked their smooth, elegant design.
Great history and unboxing as always. For character you could do next could you please do Daisy
I wasn't expecting the Full Metal Jacket reference, but it was hilarious.
He is the reason why I am such a fan of the BR Class 40s today! He really was a special diesel character that I couldn't get enough of as a kid and still can't. And that is an impressive Season 1 Bertie! I should use of those to replace my Bachmann Bertie.
Him wearing his sad face is fitting considering he’s damned to stay Drayton Manor
There is the Season 4 style story of using Class 40, Boco, and Henry to recreate the classic RWS story Super Rescue. Wish we got that with the model series
Class 40 was really chill compared to the other diesels, who were more antagonistic. He did give off snide remarks and quaint showing off, he intrinsically did not do too much trouble aside for getting the ire of the Sudrian engines and battering an inspectors bowler hat.
Although Class 40 did believe that steam engine should be scrapped (Which is equivalent of death) meaning he does have some level of Malice and Sinister act.
@@whoknowsbothersomeoneelse that’s right, he did hold that belief. He could bark for sure, but he didn’t have a bite in the end.
Nice variety you should do the trucks next especially season 1
You know, this was one of the episodes I missed as a kid, but somehow I think I still had Class 40's ERTL toy, so I happily played with it with zero context.
Yes!!
What a jammed packed episode!
finally. we are back to standard gauge! PRAISE THE STANDARD!!!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one annoyed that most of the TV series diesels are class 08s, although my reasoning ties more into being annoyed about so many shunter diesels, particularly becuase they run on the mainline where the have no business running. Use proper mainline diesels for the job FFS. And while they're at it, bring electric locos to Sodor, as that would be really interesting to see.
Fully agree, Just the most laziest way to portray a BR Diesels. If the company didn't waste all their material or had been given permission to render other design; then maybe they could have brought back BoCo and even RWS diesels such as D199, Bear and most background diesels from RWS illustration like that one backward face Class 08 and D5701 in Escape or even the three diesels from Stepney the bluebell engine book.
I remember having a Class 40 wooden railway toy at my great-grandparents house and was so confused on who he was as out off all the VHS's I had none had the episode he appeared in and there was no name on the bottom. The only time I saw him was in one of the sing a long videos
Catch me walking out of Drayton Manor with an unusual long, oblong shape under my shirt.
"Is that a diesel in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?"
Beautiful
Do you think you could possibly do Lady next??? I think it'd be interesting to see her history, and she was the first engine I liked from the franchise
I had an ERTL D199 (SpamCan) and I remember the first time watching Bowled out when I was 6 or 7 in 1995 and assuming Class 40 was the same character and being confused why they changed his face and color. A few years later the ERTL Class 40 (sold as simply "The Diesel") came out and then I realized they were different characters
Clash 40 is one of my favorite Diesel characters, if Diesel 10 not existed I think that Class 40 should’ve been the main villain in Thomas and the magic railroad
Bertie looks amazing.
Do the History of Bertie! I'd love to hear stuff about him!
The big diesels' faces in The Railway Series were yellow or green (BoCo) because they were embedded onto their ends. The steam engines and smaller diesels (Diesel, Rusty, Mavis, Frank) had grey faces because it would look weird and wouldn't be practical to have an embedded face on a smokebox or, for the diesels' case, on their front grilles (how that even be possible?) That being said, Toby has always had a grey face in The Railway Series, yet his face is not where his smokebox is.
For the TV series, my guess is that they had the grey face-masks because they would look weird or disorienting in yellow. My guess is that Annie and Clarabel have always had embedded faces because they didn't use the moving eye mechanism for them; but then again, neither do the troublesome trucks but they have grey faces from Series 2 onwards. Probably because they are easier to make and fix on.
Also, I don't like Class 40's TV series model. The body is too low and out of scale in comparison to its real life counterpart. You can see that when he is moving up to the coaches in Bowled Out.
D261: exists
D199: AM I A JOKE TO YOU!?
D199 along with Bear would be expensive to craft.
@@whoknowsbothersomeoneelse they could have made super rescue with D261 and Derek, and it’s been made that way in trainz by fans
@@whoknowsbothersomeoneelsed199 could just be a recolor of class 40
They do look extremely similar despite being different classes
I love the adult swim style intro
Class 40 cameos very briefly in Rusty to the Rescue
It would be interesting to see Proteus or Neville done, considering most of the character have been 1-7 series characters
Proteus has already (kind of) been done:
ua-cam.com/video/GaV2fbWQcYY/v-deo.html
@@antonberglund117 Oh yes. Thanks for reminding me of that. i forgot but still it would be nice to see some of the Series 8-11 characters be done as well
@@the700shunter8 Yhea your probably right.
Personally I didn't at all like series 9/10 and onwards as a child (I was born in 2002). I preferred the classic series with it's unique and different story's and really good looking sets and models.
With exception of series 12, as it was newer dubbed to Swedish. But it looks and seems as bad as the previous and following series.
But as you said, it could possibly be fun with a character from season 8-12. Anyone particular your interested in?
@@antonberglund117 Neville, Dennis and Mighty Mac. Also Molly came from this era too
@@the700shunter8 Yhea, Mighty Mac would be interesting
That Adult Swim intro was awesome!
I would love to see trainboy make a history video about the scraped engines/rolling stock also him making his own 2nd episode of mad bomber
I think I saw him in the background of calling all engines or steam v dezls
I found Class 40 to be an interesting character but very underused. It also amazed me that he had a nameboard that was only used one time on the Cranky Bugs video release. You'd think that his nameboard would have been used in Thomas and the Special Letter, like maybe appearing after Sir Handle, but nope. His nameboard went unused until at that point. Both Class 40 himself and his nameboard were very underused. It's quite sad really/
3:25 “Sir an inspector’s hat sir!”
I am curious about the faces of Class 40 used in the episode Bowled Out. I've just rewatched the ep and there is 1 face used which I am unsure about which one it is (if that sentence makes any sense!). It is just after the Diesel stops and is pushed back by Duck and Stepney into his shed. His face is hidden behind Duck, though I cannot tell whether it is Face 4 or whether it could be Face 5. It looks like it has red cheeks too, as if he was furious. Dunno whether it is even a 6th unaccounted face.
Can you do the Troublesome Trucks next?
imo Class 40 has a lot of potential as a character
Agree as either just being a Villain, just some bully diesel or becoming nicer.
The CO in his wheel arrangement is the same meaning as the CO in Boco's name. The 1 is the pony truck, CO being a bogey of 3 powered axles, CO again then the 1 for the pony truck for the other end. Boco is BO which is two powered axles in the bogey. :D
I heard somewhere this was made was because to help distribute heavy weight to avoid wearing the axles down.
@@whoknowsbothersomeoneelse Yes, the early BR larger diesel locos had this arrangement though when designs advanced CO-CO arrangements were used as opposed to 1- CO-CO-1
I do like diesels theme and it goes well with class 40.
And I like class 40, he's one of the diesels I've known for a long time.
I've always want the thomas wooden railway class 40 toy but he is quite expensive on ebay.
Would love to see Arthur. His basis is so cool.
I'd love a history of the Troublesome Trucks please
I want history on troublesome trucks, I'm still holding hope.
Hey TrainBoy you think you could a history of Top Hat from Tugs?
The TCC REALLY did his character justice!
1:45 That's Take-n-Play actually.
Is it weird that I think he's handsome? I mean, not that the other engines are ugly or anything, but something about him specifically just comes across as handsome.
Can you do the history of Neville and his modals
Maybe do Thumper? That one big red machine ?
I Remember that D261 exist as Take A Long Model too
They could have repainted him for a couple adaptations they never did due to the diesels only appearing once.
the fact that gold rail box has shining time logo shows how old it is
So TrainBoy can you do a history of Bertie & his models?
Could you possibly do Sir Topham Hatt's car? He had Winston the rail car in the CGI era, why not his car from the model era.
why do i feel like the intro to your newer videos are inspired by something from adult swim
Thanks to Leokim's old Mad Bomber video, I keep calling this engine "Andy" or "Andy Diesel" in my head whenever I see him.
I would definitely like to see the history of the scary owl from that one music video
As kids, me and my brothers would always call Bowler 'Diesel Surveyedtheshed', because we didn't know what 'surveyed' meant, and thought it was some kind of naming title, or something
Nice
suggestion,
History of Derek and his models
3:02 Joshua has ate toco bell probably before this
Joshua is my name for 40
I would love to see daisy, Mavis, or lady model history
i wish class40 was added to the newer seasons
also when will you make a vid on your custom hornby percy
3:02 Little fart noise. :3
P.S. what's the name of the them you start using around 0:51 ?
Why were characters like Class 40, City of Truro, Derek, Bulstrode and (partly) Flying Scotsman built only to appear once and never again, it always seem like an odd thing to do as this since characters probably cost a bit to create with motors and the build so wouldn't it make sense to use them more often?
They should have done more with class 40. he was my fave deisel and he was basicly boco but a boy
I personally don’t think that he’s an evil diesel, but more of a misguided one. When he says “Not bad, I’ve seen worse, at least you’re all clean.” He isn’t saying that to be rude, he’s saying it because it’s true. He’s only seen steam engines very dirty. It’s like when a baby says something insensitive. It’s not that they’re trying to be rude, they just don’t know any better.
He did say that Sir Topham Hatt should be scrapped his engine so he is sorta sinister.
you should do Peter Sam
