Great lesson! I know it was uploaded 8 years ago but I’m just now learning this song 😂 and this is a phenomenal break down of it, one quick thing for anyone who’s also here currently at 1:39-1:40 early on in the riff he makes a little vocal mistake he says your gonna do the same thing on the G string he meant to say do the same thing we done on the g string on the D string I missed this first few times and as I played it I was like this don’t sound right repeating twice on the G so I watched his fingers saw it was on the D string when he says that and I was like now it makes sense lol so anyone here watching starting out opening riff when you do your first two open licks then the little riff on the G you hit the A again and this time repeat the riff but up one chord to the D string. 🤘🏼 thank you brother for all these awesome classes you have taken the time to do ! Truly thank you man !
It's not easy to find a good channel to learn guitar but yours is great and easy to understand for people who's english is not their first language (i'm belgian) I hope you'keep going for a long time !
Carl I can't thank you enough for bringing my playing to a whole new level. You're the best out there for breaking down a song PERIOD!! Thank you for doing what you do!
Its Great to find a real Seek and destroy guitar lesson when you search for it and not a guy playing the song and just shows the tabs. Fantastic, i learned it.
Once again providing great tuition without any bullshit. Great guitar playing and really authentic tone for your practice set up. I feel like I can achieve the same tone with my office practice amp and im shredding yet another Metallica classic with your help. Thank you my man.
You could also play the 4 down stroke part with open G and D strings, and then second fret G and D strings. And then second fret D string, open D string, second fret A string, and then first fret A string.
nice work! got the first couple licks down pretty good. switched from a strat copy to an epiphone sg400... been playing 1-2hr per day... what a difference
James didn't play guitar originally he was just a singer at the first conception of Metallica! He picked it up when Dave was in the band. To sing and play guitar like he does is amazing! It only took him a year to sing and play like he does! I made a goal to do the same! I'm a intermediate guitarist right now can't solo but am going to practice hours every day like James did! Cheers!
This just isn't true. How did he release hit the lights playing guitar before Dave joined if he didn't start guitar u til he joined. How did he wrote 3 metallica songs before Dave joined? Story is made up I'm afraid
this is such a great song and I'm glad I could learn it from such a great teacher. this is a really great channel and its a shame you don't have more subs
When i was growing up in the 90s the internet wasnt the internet yet but i wish i had videos like this back then. Would of changed my life. Also you should post what equipment like pedals were used achieve this sound.
carl brown is my favorite guitar teacher on youtube it’s just that he is not very specific he will say thing like a few times or a couple times instead of just saying the amount that’s the only thing that gets me mad about him
Mackenna S this may be shocking to some but i have an announcement to make, Carl Brown is my real biological father. I was adopted at age three, carl brown has since not been able to pay child support. carl brown i would love to come back i home. love you dad.
365...i wanted to let you i appreciate your teachings...i been playing sense i was nine throughout the 80s...so i had to learn by ear listened to tapes auugghh!!..that was so hard dude..lol if i had u-tube then man..but its awsome im 46 now and i learning from i feel like a kid again..just want to tell yeahs thank you for your time an sharing..ill be watching and learning..lol
никита новиков No need to wait, I have already done a lesson for the solo. You can find it in my Metallica lesson playlist here ua-cam.com/play/PLOBqO_KghqI7qp1N_tDJ46zmWlSHUtbc8.html Have fun! Carl...
Dream Theater! All I can say is, HELL YES! Anything off Metropolis would be GREAT. But I would settle for anything by Dream Theater. John Petrucci is one of my Favorite guitar players. He puts all other shredders to shame.
Hi Carl wondering if you could do I disappear from Metallica if you haven't already just love the riffs in it awesome to see you've done so many Metallica songs.
thanks for all your help....great guitar teacher...very nice and slow so we can actually pick it up the correct way....glad I am a subscriber Carl.....
Hey and much thanks for the great video. A probably silly question from a noob though: on the outro riff, why do we play 2nd fret E and 5th fret A instead of a regular power chord with 2nd and 4th frets?
Lol! I was looking for a tutorial on how to play this song but I didn’t know the name of it so I just searched “how to play the Metallica riff.” And this came up first 😂😂😂
@5:57, you don’t go through the steps for that scale. You just move on from it. I’m confused there. Yes I’m a beginner, so far you’re tutorial is great, except for that part.
This guy is my go to teacher for song covers, he taught me how to play eruption, FUCKING legend
Mukund Shivakumar I've just smashed out all of creeping death. :) I'm going to do eruption and beat it next. 👊
@@michaellawlor5625 do you learn beat it?
agree 100% wish he had the tabs on the screen tho
@@isaacil9552 yeah sometimes I don’t seem to understand what he’s saying but still a great teacher
eruption wow so difficult -_- learn actual songs. try serrana bitch.
it pisses me off to see a great teacher have only 180k subs when the really shity ones have 2m he should have more hes the best in my opinion
agreed
Yes
He'll get to 1 million in no time. :)
320,000 subs at the moment but I deff agree dude should have way more. He's one of the most accurate and better teachers on the tube
Alejandro Arechiga yeah I've learned like 2 songs in one night
searchin...!! "Seek and Destroy Guitar Lesson"

learnt the song from here and played it at my school 🤘🤘 thanks a lot man
we want, nay NEED the fast part under the solo!
Literally the only part I came for. Just wanted to see how it was picked
@@RyanAtkinsC I have no problem with any riff except that one. Is it just down picked extremely fast?
@@disco4535 Yeah, but what I've found out since is that this guy has another video for just the solo, but he does the riff underneath it there too.
Carl brown is the GOAT
Coming back to this 5 years later to refresh. Thanks again man

Another awesome lesson, can't beat when trying to learn and you start to recognise the parts you put together .this one put a smile on my face. Cheers

Just learnt my fav metallica riff, thanks dude earned yourself a sub
Thanks again Carl as usual l tab what you show and just remember the way the song goes in my head I've heard it a thousand times.

he played guitar before metallica. he stopped when he joined metallica and missed his guitar, so he picked it back up as the rhythm guitarist.
Thats not even true. He was a guitar player first and forced to sing..he never thought he was a strong singer
This just isn't true. How did he release hit the lights playing guitar before Dave joined if he didn't start guitar u til he joined. How did he wrote 3 metallica songs before Dave joined? Story is made up I'm afraid
Man. This is a great tutorial. In fact I've checked out a few of yours on YT recently and you're always on point. Thanks, Carl. Have a subscribe.
was really hoping somewhere between this or the solo video, the rhythm parts under the solo would have been covered
This was great fun. After tackling your recent Anthrax lesson this song was a piece of cake.
Ive got a normal electric guitar, how do i make it sound like that
GEORGEE T Boom you have to bring distortion out of your amp and palm mute some notes
IjoeTV does "distortion" have to be a feature on the amp
What amp do you have
Distortion is the same thing as overdrive
IjoeTV it just has volume,eq high medium low, effect level, clean, lead, voulme gain
i learned fade to black, one, and now seek and destroy off this fantastic channel
*_Awesome lesson! Keep up the great work! 👏👏👍👍_*
Awesome! I always played the intro with bends, but it's easier your way. Love playing this song.
You cover songs that rival the original. Best UA-cam Guitar Teacher BY FAR!
Great tutorial, really clear and comprehensive, many thanks for your help !
Your lessons are great thanks for taking your time out
you cover every rock and metal song I search for pretty much! HUGE THANKS! One request if you could look at Amsterdam Van Halen INSANE RIFF!
Who else thought this song was WAY harder than it is?
Your no-nonsense explaination has me playing this tune already.
this is such a great song and I'm glad I could learn it from such a great teacher. this is a really great channel and its a shame you don't have more subs
Looks like a HH guitar in middle position. Cool power chords an mutes e and a, pure thrash metal.!

Makes me wish I had an electric but sounds pretty good on acoustic. Let's learn the solo.
Not only could you have not taught that any better but you could not have had a more dead on guitar tone, sounding exactly like the OG!
Could you please tell us what pedals do you use? or it's just distortion?. Thanks in advance!
Great teacher!!!!
